H3VR has this kind of arm swing mechanic for running, where you move your arms back and forth and the speed forward depends on how fast you swing your arms.

There are VR in games that let you walk, or teleport, you can choose. The teleporting was to fight off motion sickness for some users, but I think it is probably a minority that is affected but they are all trying to cater to them.

Fallout 4 VR had been one of my most anticipated games ever since it was announced back at E3 2016. I've had so much fun with Pavlov VR, H3VR, and Onward, so the thought of playing an enormous, open world RPG with the incredible VR gameplay that those games offered was hugely appealing to me.

Unfortunately, that's not quite what we got.

To me, the main draw of VR is simulating the feeling that you embody the in-game character. You're not just giving the character vague commands via a controller or keyboard, you're actually recreating the character's movements one to one with your own hands. This feeling of immersion is so powerful in Pavlov/H3VR/Onward, and unfortunately falls staggeringly short in Fallout 4 VR.

Reloading your weapon is done by gripping the side buttons, and everything from switching weapons to looting corpses is done through a menu. I remember playing through H3VR's Meat Grinder and having to physically open and close drawers to find what little ammo I could scrounge up. It felt amazing, and it's the little details like that that really solidified the feeling of being in the game for me. In Fallout 4, looting of all kinds is done through a menu, just as it was in the base game. You can't physically open drawers, nor can you rummage through a raider's pockets to see what he has. No, you just point at what you want to loot and then select what you want to take from a menu.

It's really difficult for me to overstate how much I was disappointed in the fact that there's no manual reloading or weapon manipulation of any kind. Now, I know some people prefer single button-press reloading so I'm glad it's an option, but it shouldn't be the only option. Another one of those little details that I mentioned that really sold me on VR is in Onward. Onward doesn't tell you how much ammo you have left in your clip; there's no number on the screen that tells you when to reload. You either have to remember approximately how many bullets you've shot or, get this, you can take the clip out of the gun, look at how many bullets you have left, then pop it back in and continue shooting. It injects this sense of realism that simply isn't possible in traditional video games, and Fallout 4 is completely missing it. A number on screen shows you how much ammo you have, you press a button, and then your gun is reloaded. It's no different than the base game.

One of the first complaints I saw when gameplay of Fallout 4 VR was first revealed was the fact that your character has no hands, arms, torso, or legs. I wouldn't call this an objective flaw, because there are people who prefer to not have hands recreated in VR. But again, it would have been nice to have the option, because there are plenty of people out there who would have liked it. It's also difficult to get past the fact that your Pip-Boy, which is something that goes on your arm, is just floating in space in front of you.

Everywhere you look, you see signs that this game simply wasn't made with VR in mind, and it's disappointing. Pavlov, H3VR, and Onward all offer incredible frameworks of how VR gameplay should work, but none of them offer all that much in the way of content. Fallout 4 is the opposite. While it offers by far the most content in a VR title to date, it's sorely lacking in immersive VR features that make the medium so compelling in the first place.

I don't mean to say that you can't have fun in Fallout 4 VR. It's the same game you played in 2015, but now you can look around with your head and shoot with motion controllers. It's entertaining, sure, and I did feel twinges of excitement when I walked through the (albeit grainy) wasteland and shot a raider in the back of the head. I also understand that porting a game to VR isn't as simple as changing a few lines of code, and if this were a free update to Fallout 4, I'd be singing its praises. This is a 60 dollar game, however, and it should be treated as such. Bethesda offered no discount to previous owners of Fallout 4 like myself, so we are paying $60 for the VR implementation. I think it's fair to say that we deserved better than what we got.

I guess it's a simple hotfix now that theyve isolated the issue. Still the complaints for lack of 2-handing weaponry, working scopes and better realism options stands.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know I bought the game Fallout® 4 VR and I'm having a lot of fun with it! Sure, it might have one or two not gamebreaking glitches but I'm convinced the developers at Bethesda Softworks are working hard to fix them as soon as possible, so all in all I think it's pretty solid experience. Don't listen to the naysayers, they probably haven't even tried the game and just want to spread toxicity.

I don't have a concrete process yet. This is the first image that was actually successful. I just overlayed two layers of white and then changed the base images hue values until I stopped feeling disgust.
