Anime that deserves a game

Though I'm not sure what genre it would be. It could very easily be some three-dee bullshit beat-em-up (least desirable option), a JRPG format. An action/adventure game, an SRPG (eh). I don't actually know and I'm trying to think of what would be best for something like this. Maybe it'd end up being similar to a tomato in terms of gameplay but that would probably end up being too inconsistent I feel

It's bizarre in that the English localization is competent enough that it contains different jokes in places where a literal translation wouldn't flow, but the spirit of the characters is completely intact.

Also, you absolutely have to watch the BluRay version on the highest resolution screen you can manage. They spent seven years on REDLINE, and it shows.

This picture is a pretty accurate summation of all Precure. It's a manly anime with sick fighting masquerading as little girl mahou shoujo. It's a miraculous series that appeals to both little girls, and older dudes.

Personally I think the movie is great until the actual Redline start. Then enjoyment drops significantly.

Decode was a TV show, not an OVA. I like both series for different reasons, but somebody should license the comics already.

I feel obligated to warn you; if you're looking for the sick fighting, shy away from some of the newer ones. Toei has gotten complaints about all the violence over the years from mothers and has been steadily toning it down bit by bit. The newest Precure are super children friendly.

The older you go in the series, however, the more fighting and violence you get. I recommend starting on Heartcatch Precure (if you don't do it properly and start at the beginning, as is proper). That particular Precure had almost a perfect blend of little girl stuff, fighting, and was otherwise just generally a super solid title with good writing.

Every time I hear this, it depresses me a little bit.

I don't know if I can blame them. The show is legitimately aimed at 5-9 year old little girls, and some of the fights, themes, writing, and tone the older series has are rather adult. The Precure used to just outright kill their enemies, even.

Same thing happens with Kamen Rider too. Ghost was introduced as having a fighting style where he floated around his opponents. That got removed because parents complained that it was too spooky.

I think they toned it down way too much, but ads and promos for the upcoming Precure say it's going to "go back to its roots," so here's hoping for more violence.

A fighting game based on the characters from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. The cast is diverse enough to offer characters for every playstyle.

That, and the absurdist humor of the series fits a fighting game well I think– over the top action and setpieces would work well for the art style and characters. It could even be justified in-universe as there being some sort of competition to see who can marry Nozomu Itoshiki, and the fights are a part of that competition.

I haven't done a ton of theorycrafting, but of course they'd have your standard suite of fighting game attacks: punches, kicks, slaps, chops, slides. etc. Their special moves and supers would pertain to things they're iconic for in the anime, or super powerful abilities they have (i.e. Chiri opens her third eye and shoots a beam out). More specifically, Chiri would use her shovel for disjoint attacks, Otonashi woud have a lot of ranged attacks with texting, Komori would be shorter than everyone else since she's always crouched and veiled in a blanket. Not sure on all the specifics, but with some thought I think it could work.

Something you could do to spice this up is lead the player along like it's a romance VN, where you're trying to seduce one of the many girls you meet, that way the plot twists later in NHK's story really hit hard. Or maybe that's a stupid idea.

It's been a long while since I watched the first, but I think the 2nd is overall inferior. The episodes don't hit as hard, and there's a stronger focus on side characters. Not as much philosophy either. It's still good though, and it looks a million times better because of the budget. The OP is super demon turbo miracle wonderful gorgeous.
