Recently I got a 2DS and began catching up to Pokemon games with Pokemon Y, but then while I charged the console I went to my old NDS and kept playing Pokemon Black, I can't believe they went for a more fast paced game in Gen V only to make it so slow from Gen VI onwards.

Also, non-Full DERP Pokemon thread maybe.

I stopped enjoying at 5, 6 was all the issues 5 had but blown up tenfold.
Gen 7, never bothered replaying it.

B2/W2 is the last actually good pokemon game.

Last games I played was White 2, as I didn't (and still don't) have a 3DS. The more I hear about the 3DS ones, the more I feel I've dodged a bullet, since Pokemon (main series anyhow) used to be an obligatory purchase in prior generations.

Shitposting aside the series really went downhill.
Black/White was interesting. I enjoyed it even if the region was full of weird pokemon.
Now Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on the other hand (DS and GBA ones)… those are far better than any mainline game in the series.
I retardedly bought Sun and regretted it. Its not top-down for a pokemon game which is fucking annoying and everything feels so slow and handhold-y that its unbelievable. I'm not sure if I'm past the tutorial area yet and it was 5 hours or so since I'd put into the game. I stopped it there and actually played other, good games.
Anyways for my money I think Gen 3 was the best. Gen V was okay. Gen IV had well-designed pokemon but the games couldn't hold my interest.

What issues exactly? also, I miss Gen 2/4 night and day cycles as well as the seasons.

...

Do any of the "newer" pokemon games have 100% mods/hacks? (as in the ability to catch all pokemon and include events ect)

Gen 6 made it very easy to complete the pokedex… mostly, wonder trade is full of commons but you can at least find something to breed, in my experience Japanese people keep giving away Magikarp which may be OK if you want to breed a shiny Gyarados or the like, feels bad when I give just a lesser pokemon with a good berry or an egg move only to get something as disproportionate as Aerodactyl.

Apparently SM beat every other game in the tutorial length department, not sure but you can't pick a starter until 20-30 minutes in or was it the whole intro? I haven't started playing those.

Gen III would have been better had they made the Physical/Special split happen there, rather than wait until Gen IV for whatever reason. Still really liked Emerald and FRLG, but splitting the classification of moves was such a big improvement to the series.

Did they ever do something about people dumping commons up there and requesting legendaries at least? I remember that being a plague to have to sift through in fourth and fifth gen.

If you mean the GTS, nope, still cancerous, you have a filter though, now "Include People who want Special Pokemon" can be disabled, but that only covers the big legends, people still ask for stuff like Lv 50+ first form starters, roaming bosses like Latios, Entei, Landorus, birds, mirages, etc., you can find a few reasonable trades that are there mostly for completion purposes.

Gen 5 was successful because it was literally a 1:1 copy of Gen 1. Look at how many pokemon share similar stages/roles

It was a shitty copy of gen 1 which still makes it pretty decent. Any and all "counterpart" pokemon end up being largely inferior to the originals. More importantly the ones you brought up were just gimmicks. I also don't know how you can think of exeggcutor as a "food" pokemon either. That's like considering eggs inherently food as opposed to a living being, and it certainly doesn't evolve into anything even remotely resembling edible. Trubbish was also literal garbage, not "poison waste".

This and you know why? Gen 5 was also the last gen not to do yearly installments and it was the last gen before the pokemon company started trying to capture the mobile audience/prepping for pokemon go

Bump

Sorry man, Pokemon threads are usually not interesting for others unless they want to shitpost or dump furry porn.

From the perspective of a comp fag, pre pokemon bank sun/moon hands down was my favourite time playing the game. Before save editors were a thing, before people could transfer their landorus' and their cresselias' it was a fun romp playing around with all the new mons.
pokemon bank killed sun/moon

playing the series** not just the game

When you say comp-fag you mean smogon-tier or actually official competitive-tier?

BW2 came out a year after BW, you retard. If anything Gen V started it.

This but with pre-Bank and pre-save editor Gen 6. VGC 2014 was great, even with Mega Kanga running around. The moment they switched from allowing only the Kalos dex and to the National dex killed the magic, and Pkhex managed to catch up by that time.

Well, before save editors there was game shark in a few instances, on the other hand, stuff would have been a little different if all those hidden values were less randomized, you know, the whole in-game "eugenics" thing.
