Play the original PSX version, not the PSP rerelease. The PSP version fucks up the graphics, framerate and takes out all the quality of life changes the japs made in the 1.1 version, which the US psx used.

just as an addendum to user's post. if you're emulating save yourself a lot of headache and just use mednafen, the game breaks in multiple places on most other emulator setups.

i ran into a bug (something related to audio tracks) on epsxe (and pcsx) where it would refuse to move on to the next scene. i know there's a workaround but i was way too lazy to try and implement it.

I think you're giving them too much credit. I barely hear anything about that game and don't know anyone who is legitimately excited for it.
Undertale might be hot garbage, but it was organically harvested autism made on a small budget. Meanwhile Lab Zero is employing a shit-ton of animators, as well as wasting their money on unnecessary things like an animated intro by Trigger. I believe they're located in LA as well, which isn't the cheapest city to be in if you're making an indie game. All of this is a recipe for disaster, they can't beg for money forever.

Most of the people still invested in Skullgirls at this point will get it. Everyone else will probably not. I don't think it'll do particularily well or particularily badly, it's just going to be mediocre and attract a bit of attention because most games these days are even lower effort, but I can't see any way this thing blows up. Since it was crowdfunded it probably doesn't need to do any better to pay for itself, but it won't pay for a next game.
