Terraria Thread

Welp, got the itch to play this again. Was there anything worthwhile added to the game after Moonlord became a thing? He kicked my ass when he was released.
I saw some anons talking about a modpack that adds a shitton of content, makes moonman be about halfway trough it all. Anyone got a link or the name for that?
Anyways, post houses and waifus.

Ignore the meme packs, just get Thorium mod and be done with it.

Are there any news about the new update?
I've started playing recently and it's an amazing time sink, but I've got no architectural skills so I've basically enclosed the NPCs in glass cages in my shelter and called it a day

Here's the archive of the last thread plus what user told me: archive.is/JPeN1
There are 4 mods: Tremor, Spirit, Thorium, and Calamity. They're basically major additions that adding everything from items to weapons to NPCs to bosses. Between all of these mods there are:
BOSS PROGRESSION
Anything one the same row is of roughly equivelent strength.
Pre-Hardmode
Hardmode
Post-Moon Lord
Note that this portion of the progression is guess work based on boss HP

I got all the other 4 and I'm having fun with them. It's true that they are far from balanced, but all 4 add more than 10 times the content the game originally had. It's fucking ridiculous. I'm happy as long as I can explore, find new things and craft new things.

hairstylist a best

Page back and forth between 5 wikis is just too much.

I also gave the magic storage a try, and boy, how fucking sweet. I though it would make storage meaningless in the game, and how wrong I was. Storage is still easier but it has a limit that progress as you do. Whoever did the mod really knew what he was doing.

Yeah, that's a pain in the ass, but it's not really necessary unless you're a completionist. The game keeps it's natural flow, and as long as you know the boss progression and names, you won't miss a lot and won't tangle yourself that much.

i love tree builds. i was really happy when they added the living wood wands

I wonder if Wakfags will be extremely asshurt over nothing and get the thread deleted again.

I want to ram my penis up the Driad's uterus if you understand what I'm saying.

posting the only imagine I have saved of the last server

I'm not sure if I get it, could you give me an illustration?

That was it.
Playing all this with terraria overhaul and magic storage installed. Having fun cheesing new big-ass monsters with homing toots so far.

I'm not sure if I get how you're supposed to play Terraria. Like, do you just start building shit where you spawn? Or are you supposed to explore around, and then build stuff? When do you start exploring? Do you even explore the surface, or are you supposed to keep going deeper?

I always get so confused and just stop playing. Maybe I'm not creative enough for this game.

Just do whatever you want whenever you want, you'll eventually naturally gravitate towards your actual intended objectives due to lack of other mundane shit you already did.

Would you take care of the children that would be produced afterwards?

All he'd need would be sunlight and a watering can.

What a bad father you are.

everything seems to be a euphemism for sex these days, if you catch my drift

This user speaks the truth. Trust me, I'm a botanist.

We're getting a new girl "soon".

what new grirl looks like

We don't know yet. I hope it's a loli.

Of course!
The Driad refused your offer in favor of mine. I had to find out how fertile she is.

Fake and gay.

...

...

When's the best time to start adding semen to the garden? After they've begun flowering? When they just start sprouting? As soon as the seeds are planted?

A cute loli would be a nice addition.

Fine. I shall dub her plant cunt.

...

But user, shes a 500 year old granny.

While retaining a youthful and fertile body. Where's the issue?

The funniest thing is that every update makes this guy more and more wrong.

No issues at all user.

Well there's one issue.

Get a thighjob and spray your seed all over her flower. Nothing troublesome about that.

Come to think of it, there was a part in MGQ where you got a flowerjob. Really this isn't a problem.

I guess in that situation I would deflower her.

HEH

Ain't you that nigger that drew the onion girl?

no, it's y, no i, it's Dryad.

...

I didn't draw that but now I want to see onion girl.

Well since you're here I can assume she's in no danger of being over-watered, then.

...

For those just tuning in this is what we know so far about 1.3.6.

Get a Stormbow.

gilfs are best

I quit a while ago

Eh, that's alright i guess.

Also food resprites and brand new foo as well and mannequins can now use dyes and accessories.
There's a few other things too.

SHIT I really need to decompile Terraria again. It uses XNA and takes advantage of networking sockets and shit, and my own shitty /agdg/ projects are in XNA as well, I could learn a thing

Well congratulations, you got her knocked up!
So what's the next step in your master plan?

Generational incest. With no contraception.

Enjoy having retarded children.

Having an Adam complex aint easy. Though from what I know of plants, they can interbreed without issue, and some even fertilize themselves and have no evident genetic problems. Multiple generations of dryad probably won't be bad.

At that point, you should be able to make Hallowed Armor and the Ichor Spell.

also I was gonna post some fanart I made of the death sickle and vampire knives but I lost em fuggg

Get Wings. The Mechanical bosses become vastly easier with wings. Buy one from lizhardnigger for 1 platinum at night in the jungle.

fucking hell wrong picture

dont put loss in your tiki bar goddamnit

It's generally best to start building where you spawn, so that you have a place of safety you can go to immediately when you use recall potions.

What I generally do when I get started is make a couple shacks for the Merchant to spawn in, and then run off looking for chests in the walled underground layer of natural caves, hoping to find 50 silver to spawn the Merchant before sunset.

I don't know how people have the time for mods in this. I play on hardcore expert and I still haven't even beaten the base game.

Quick, what's an easy way to kill NPCs? I love using the painter's paint gun.

FUCK

Thin pool of lava or dart trap.

Those come too late, how do you kill them earlier?

can they drown?

Ah yes, that might do the trick. Not sure they ever drop anything when they drown though.

In fact they can drowned in 2 blocks deep water instead of 3 like the player.

NPC that can drop anything will drop it regardless of how they're killed. Most don't have a 100% drop chance other than the Clothier, the Travelling Merchant, and Andrew.

My sister wants to play this with me. What exactly am I in for? Just looks like 2D autismcraft to me, except you cant build nice looking things which was the only redeeming factor in Minecraft anyway.

More of a 2D action platformer with autismcraft supplemented.

Fuck that then

2D autismcraft, a lot of bosses and a lot of different things to do.
Even more of them, when you install mods.
related.
Only true if you lack creativity.

Its Minecraft but as if Notch wasn't stupid and actually focused on the adventure part and made combat not suck.
But in 2D.

You can progress all the way up to mid hardmode on nothing but fishing at which point there is no platforming since you can just fly over everything.
Also rope an grappling hooks exist in the game.
Just make a comfy fishing shack.

You know nothing.

Fuck you and your sister, bitch.

inb4 someone posts the blue gel slime shota

I heard an user saying there were more like that, but I doubt it.

Oh there are, I've seen them posted before, they're hard to find though. There are probably some on Pixiv but I don't feel like making an account.

...

Holy shit, that is amazing

I found a monster girl tier Ichor Sticker porn that looked like some kind of tentacle beast with mouth vagina and human torso, and a bunch of poorly drawn Lizahrd porn. Cant save shit from pixiv on my phone for some reason

I didn't see anything like that but I did find a picture of Patchouli Knowledge in Terraria. So that's something.

I've found a few nice Japanese builds ans some pixel art too. I've not seen anything lewd or slimy yet though.

...

I'm beginning to like the Japanese Terraria community.

...

Japanese HERO looks better than American HERO.

Depends on plant. IIRC best appletrees are made when two different trees are used to produce the seeds. Also my high school biology textbook claimed that corn that is planted and harvested for food is result of careful hybridization of different stock strains that themselves have poor taste and/or yield.

On related note. I'm not geneticist but Vault 69 scenario has at least theoretical chance of working, despite only having 1 man for 1000 women. If Vault-tec somehow managed to find man who carries no harmful recessive genes then it wouldn't really matter that his children from different mothers reproduced together.

Blustery days added? Little black rain clouds?

Literally what the fuck is the point? These people are the real autists of this kind of games, they're not even playing the game creatively, just using it to autistically arrange pixels that someone else made up.

Autism.
So what?

NPCs can drown (my attempts to make a moat for protection didn't work out great when NPCs walked to their death), and by enemies- but you won't have access to actuators to lock down buildings yet.

...

...

I've found some more.

Fine, Ill consider it.

Watch your tongue user

The fact that Terraria isn't pure blocks triggers my autism a bit. I think you can make some really good looking, eye-candy buildings, but the differently styled blocks just makes it too complex. Also can anyone tell me why the gog version of modloader refuses to install?

Just focus on one to three of the same kind at beginning.
Are you sure that you installed correct modloader version?

...

What does this do for you?

You should kill yourself for doing this.
>>>/suicide/

Not mine. I encourage you to look harder at it. It is in fact a house.

How long do you think it'd take to rearrange every single block in a world together with each other? Think like when you're defragmenting a HDD, only with blocks
Left to right vertically

Might not even be autism. The terrarria world format is incredibly simple. I could pretty easily write a simple conversion program in most any programming language that could convert an arbitrary image into a terraria world. It would probably take me only a couple hours. Like 5 or 6 hours tops.

TEdit can even help you get part way there.

Bought this game years ago and I still didn't learn how to play it.
How do I start?

1. Explore
2. Make an enclosed space with a table, chair, and light source.
3. Talk to the guide for more context-sensitive advice.

Nevermind it, then.
I noticed that.
It still hurts my eyes.
I saved that pic as postmodernism in vidya.jpg

terraria.gamepedia.com/Guide:Getting_started

I couldn't even tell. It looks like a total mess.

What ever happened to the /tg/ Holla Forums terraria server? I've got some extra free time in my life now and I've never gotten to play a video game with ca/tg/irls

To elaborate more on
- Cut down surrounding trees and make a crafting table.
- Make yourself a HQ. Until you set a bed, where your character appeared will be deemed your spawn point if you die, so put it near there (but not directly on it as you might smash blocks as you spawn). Where you spawn is also the "center" of the world width-ways. This center-point is used in specific events, but you won't have to worry until the post-game.
- Make a 2x3 gap outside your doors to your HQ. It prevents NPCs leaving and from Monsters from bashing down the door.
- Make torches so you can see at night, and make platforms so you can travel down/up big drops with ease. Kill slime to get the gel you need. I'd recommend cutting down every tree you find (and replanting the acorns if they drop), and turn them into platforms as you go.
- Explore as far as you can before reaching areas that are too tough. You might come across an area that's all spoopy with purple or red ground. Avoid it. Same goes for the Jungle, Ice, and maybe desert. Desert is easiest to go through.
- Steal a sunflower if you find one and put it near your HQ. It'll reduce the number of monsters attacking at night. Also build a campfire nearby so when you can teleport back to your HQ, you can regen quicker after a bad fight.
- Make wooden armor if you wish (it might be easier to drop down to just below the sruface and making copper/tin armor) but don't bother with wooden weapons (except the bow), you can find better exploring the overworld. If you're desperate, make a wooden hammer to keep shit away from you- but it's slow and can't deal with multiple enemies at once.
- When you've emptied a chest you find in the overworld, mine it up to take it with you. Great for storage in HQ.
- Swing around your sword like a lunatic. Keep a hold of seeds and plants you find.
- Take some sand from the desert if you can. Once you can make a furnace, you can make glass bottles.

- If you make a bucket, make 4 or 5- 10 even. You can then transport more water in one trip. It helps to have a small pond of water by your HQ for alchemy later on, and crafting that requires water bottles/a body of water.
- Even if you have a bow, don't make arrows or fire arrows yet.
- Make sure you're in doors at night, or you have a weapon at least. Worse case scenario, throw dirt blocks around you and wait.
- If the moon goes red and a message appears saying there is a blood moon- and you don't have a full set of Iron/Lead armor at least- save & quit, or hide in your HQ.
- You might hear a "pew pew" noise at night followed by a thud. This is a shooting star landing nearby. This only happens at night, and the stars stay until morning. Pick them up. You can craft them into Mana stars, but odds are you won't have a magic item to use them yet.
- If you find a spear or Yoyo in the overworld, it's super good to keep crowds of enemies at bay or kill them at range respectively.
- Hang onto Shurikans. Don't waste them on Floating Eyes at night.
- If you find a book that turns vines into ropes- equip it. It's going to be a while before you can reliably get rope.
- If you find potions that buff you up, save them for your first boss.
- If you find a Piggy Bank, it can be accessed from any other Piggy Bank in the world. Buy a second Piggy Bank to access it when on the move- however, you won't really need to unless you want to maximize what you take back on each trip. Since Piggy Banks are fussy about where they are placed, you might want to wait until you earn a Money Trough from a Blood Moon. Either way, treat Piggy Banks as second inventory- to store stuff you need to explore (healing potions, rope, torches, etc), or put stuff in to give yourself more space to carry stuff back. Always put your money into a Piggy Bank when you can.
- If you need to get out in an emergency (or want to run back to HQ with your items), you can quickly save & quit. You'll respawn back at the center of the map/spawn point you set. If you die, some/all of your money/and items will drop where you died (depending on your difficulty). You can retrieve it as long as you don't quit the game. And you can even "mine" your tombstone to replace and edit however you wish.

- You can't swim in water. You jump slowly and a little higher, but can't jump in air. Don't go jumping into deep water willy nilly or you might drown before you get out. Build wooden platforms across "lakes" rather than risk the jump.
- If you find ores on the surface, a chunk of ground "missing" (the ground unnaturally dips down), a slime falling out of the sky, or a narrow shaft in the dirt- make a note of it for later. When you're stronger, you can use supplies to go down/up from those points to find something interesting (ores, falling slimes and missing chunks of ground- go up until you see Harpies. The narrow shaft- go down).
- If you're in the desert and you find a yellow block (sandstone), this is the top of a pyramid. Dig down until you get into the shaft inside. These places are usually devoid of enemies, but occasionally the bottom leads out into the caves. Take the money/items/decoration.
- If you find giant hollow trees with platforms in them- explore. They have neat stuff. Just be careful you don't take fall damage, and night-monsters don't wander in and drop down on your head.
- If you get a fishing rod- don't open chests you fish up yet. They can get you better ores and items in the post-game.
- Once you've mapped out the surface, find a place near your HQ to go underground (it's fine to use an existing opening that goes under, or make your own. Just remember you have to GET OUT as well). You're looking for basic ores. Copper/Tin, then Iron/Lead. You're also looking for crystal hearts.
- The walls should be dirt. If the walls become stone, you've gone too deep. Unless you've got a full set of Iron/Lead Armor and weapons.

- Mine as much stone as you can. It helps in construction and you'll always need more than you think. Don't just turn all your stone into gray bricks. They can also be stone slabs, or Tin/Copper plating when used with Tin/Copper ore and other fancy bricks with other ores and such.
- Don't turn all your iron ore/lead ore into bars. Some of the ores are used in Alchemy.
- When using ores, ALWAYS prioritize: Anvil (if applicable) ->Pickaxe -> Armor -> Weapon(s) -> Tools.
- If you've got a net, keep an eye out for golden critters. You can sell these for mad dosh, or keep them in a Terrarium as a point of pride.
- If you think you see a colored stone jutting out of a piece of stone- mine it. Gemstones don't always sit inside walls in clusters.
- Granite (purple + Sparkly) and Marble (white) can be tough. Avoid unless you have Silver/Tungsten tier armor and gear.
- If you see an area with glowing blue mushrooms, you can explore with less than Silver/Tungsten gear, but be careful. Also- mine up every mushroom you can. If you somehow get Mushroom Grass Seeds- SAVE THEM.
- Avoid underground biomes of areas you avoided on the surface- they are even stronger.
- Avoid tiny squares jutting out of the ground. These are traps- including boulders dropping from above and dart traps. REALLY avoid TNT & Detonators until you destroy the detonator.
- Claw can be used to make bowls. Bowls + Fish + Mushrooms when near a cauldron make Soup IIRC. Soup boosts up your stats for a while. To boot- Mushrooms and Fish are used in Potions and buffing potions. Always catch fish and pick up Mushrooms when you can.
- DO NOT CONSUME CRYSTAL HEARTS IF IT WOULD GIVE YOU 200 LIFE
This makes a powerful boss spawn randomly at nights, and it can be a pain if you're not ready. The trigger is 200 life and 10 defense. If you're getting better gear- you'll get 10 def easily. Keep this in mind when you get up to making Silver or Tungston armor. If you see the message "You feel an evil presence watching you…" at the bottom of your screen and you're not ready- save & quit. It'll despawn the boss. You'll be ready if you have Silver/Tungsten, or Gold/Platinum armor + weapons, a hefty stack of fire arrows and even jester arrows, potions that buff defense, damage, etc. If you're still unsure (or you're getting your ass kicked) make a campfire and a heart lantern (a heart crystal + a chain). This speeds up regen.
- If you see slime literally raining from the sky- resist the urge to kill them all. Killing to many spawns a boss- which (IMO) can be as tough if not tougher than the night boss.
- Look up guides or ask us on how to make your HQ comfy and look good. It's fine to log in and not explore/fight and just build.

Ah, simpler times. There is so little content before the dungeon, in hindsight, it makes this stuff completely irrelevant on future plays.

Cactus and Boreal/Corrupted wood weapons are fantastic, not to mention wooden armor gives you ~ 5 def after the set bonus

Does anyone have a dl for the GOG version of 1.3.3.3 or 1.3.4.4? Those are the only pirated versions that will work with tmodloader.

Sinks can be used instead of a water tile when filling up bottles for alchemy use, making mud, or crystal ball crafting.

I have 14 out of 88 achievements. I don't really know if I should play more. I feel like I've completed it

God damnit. Do you need some fancy endgame bullshit to remove water, other than bucket spam?

You were fine up to this point. Exit the world and re enter it before you dig out the sand to remove the water. You could also pump the water out once you've rescued Yellow Overalls or if you get catastrophically lucky you could get the sponge from fishing rewards.

Or you can just spend the night underground. It only spawns at the surface.

The king slime is easy as fuck to cheese and he isn't that hard with the right equipment.

Or you can go and face it like a man.

Aye. It's pretty easy to spend entire ingame days underground, too. The only difficulty might be knowing what time it is before you go back to the surface but making watches is easy anyway. You don't even need a gold/platinum watch unless you're crafting fancier things.

I think if you end up spawning it you can just turn around and go right back underground and it'll despawn anyway.

It's twice the fun.

one thousand and one moons and one thousand and one suns

Someone should host a Holla Forums terraria server playing this game by myself makes me feel dead inside

is that only for when you get the message? every time I explore the dungeon, I pop the eyes whenever possible

If you get the message at 7:30pm (doesn't matter where you are), it means the eye is going to spawn that night, but only if you stay on the surface.

Yeah, the Eye and the three mechs only naturally spawn if you are above zero depth.

Here is some work in progress from a new modded world, there is so much more content it feels like i'm playing the game for the first time again.

Shit is fucking cash.

Holy shit, it worked! Thanks user! Here's a WIP screenshot of my hobo boat. Anyone have any idea of what to make the sail out of? I was thinking of maybe using snow blocks

The pirate sells placeable sail blocks.

Is this God?

I think this is the most current version of the block and wall guide.
Like what said there is sail wall but it'll be a while before you get that. You might be able to make do with white dynasty or cloud wall untill then or with one of the other wall types painted white or light gray.

The host just disappared.

We need another one then.

...

I don't get this either. Shit spawns a few meters from spawn point EVERY TIME. The stupids sunflowers stop corruption a bit, but still.

Did you make a small world?

I made a large world recently with the mods on and it happened anyway. My problem is mostly the fact that it spawns so close to the starting point

Speaking of which, how is Avalon mod?

Old stuff from my building for every biome project

Do mods work with the Linux version?

Corruption has always been a little glitchy. Chose crimson next time, that biome seems a bit more stable.

I don't know why they haven't made sky islands pre hardmode hallow.

Yes, they should work.
Tmodloader is only dependent on website you got game from.
Steam, GOG and some other website I don't remember right now.

Nice.
I feel a little sad that I can only build commieblocks.

You need two little pointy bits at the top of the Japanese castle.

Those are carp just like that one helmet that Nioh wears.

Ok, I read you a bit late.

In case anyone is using the GOG versions, the patch for tmodloader only works with 1.3.4.4 at the moment.

how do build jungle home/base/playthrough

Just download the steam version of tmodloader and hex edit the .exe yourself. Someone posted about this in a previous thread.

You can hex edit the .exe file so you can launch it without the steam check, it works like normal. Check the last thread:

...

Here's some inspiration for you user.

Oh hey it's me.

Where's Terraria 2?

Remember to get proper inspiration.

Their first attempt turned out to be shit, so they trashed it and started again. That was a year ago.

...

Calm the fuck down, there's just different versions of it, one is designed for GoG but is out of date, the other is designed for the steam version which is why it pitches a fit when used for the GoG version due to it looking for the steam install.

Not really. You still need the "normal" steam version with a patched to work with the GOG version, which I presume is just a little tool to hex edit it. That being said, the steam check is indeed a form of DRM, I guess because steam doesn't let foreign programs run their games.
I sincerely look forward the day steam dies.

That was Terraria: Otherworld, not 2

I'm reading the wiki for Otherworld and it's funny how some of the "New Features" are things that are actually included in recent Terraria updates. Even more shocking is that Terraria 2 is "being worked since February 2012". Sounds a lot like they are both vaporware.

I would't mind if Terraria 2 was just Terraria in a better, more capable and prettier engine.

Wow, the back wall in the third picture is great.

That just means Red has been planning it, not that any concrete work has been done.

It seems to be a mixture of regular wood and ebonwood with a few bits of what I think is actuated living wood, all painted brown.

...

Probably testing the new features on Terraria so creating 2 won't be too much of a clusterfuck

It's still a bit retarded considering Terraria Otherworld and 2 have different engines than 1.

Not if he is testing mechanics and balance.

This, just been playing this solo with the 4 main content mods + leveling.

Yer talking t' Uulfrick Staormclaock, th' TROO hiegh KING.

Anyone happen to have the "Blood moon rises" image with all the terraria girls just about ready to murder someone? Google doesn't want to give me anything.

Never seen this picture myself but now I'm interested.

Posting to tell you that's the worst shit-ass Scott Pilgrim knockoff art I've seen so far OP.

Reminder that the party girl and hair stylist are the best because they're the only ones who aren't shallow cunts. And also they're the only ones not getting blacked by the arms dealer.

is this it? Google search via Startpage seemed to help.

So what you're saying is the party girl is a trap.

Did you get written permission to post this image?

Either that or she's thinking about how to decorate the place with your entrails.

Of course I did, I wouldn't have posted it otherwise :^)

Only the nurse is a confirmed coal burner.

Party girl is an expy of an MLP character, so make of that what you will.

Neat. This game has a surprising lack of (decent or better) fanart.

First time I ever attempted to use my controller with Terraria. Turns out its controller detection is fucking trash. Is there some trick to making this detect properly?

On GNU/Linux by the way.

I want to cum inside Ponka.

You virgins know what a full moon implies with regards to women, yes?

It all makes sense now.

Is this a rhetorical question?

How do I stop making commieblocks? Every time I play the game I get to finishing normal mode and then lose all willingness to proceed because I've built a boring mess of rooms to contain 50 random NPCs that I never interact with and I can't think of anything else to build.

I've never really found much incentive to do anything that isn't square myself.
I'd rather build for function than form and I'd like to see build ideas that combine both, because most of the "good" buildings I've seen look like they're awful to actually have around and are impractical to actually utilize and run around in and I think I can do better than just making bigger versions of commie blocks without sacrificing convenience.

and the mechanic a gnome fucker

Stop caring about NPCs with exception for these most helpful and make these most helpful always live around you.
Build several smaller buildings for them in other biomes.

Its too bad really, It was a lot of fun when it wasn't shitting itself. Now the Haunted church base will never be a thing again.

Hardmode is going to be hell

I haven't been happy with the last three worlds I've made. Desert and snow zones were both split up into a bunch of tiny little specks between either other zones or corruption/crimson. I want a big meaty snow zone so I can build comfy boreal wood stuff.

What the fuck are you doing? Why not make a hellevator?

My problem is I restart so often (doing expert hardcore) that my housing have become so routine that I don't even try to experiment with new designs anymore.

For what purpose?

Do you have a screenshot of it?

At least you didn't had a fucking pyramid in mini desert on snow biome.

Terraria mods with additional biomes are great, but worlds sometimes get weird with these.

It's the only way it feels like a real game to me. Other character types are too inconsequential to failure.

Just play on expert.

I'm sure this is part of it Also, check the archive in the third post.

I was mad and corruption was a mistake. I want to start a new world, but I feel a bit bad. Also, fuck big worlds, should make a medium one The aquatic depths have to be one of the best biome themes in the whole thing

Problem is loosing everything you have on your inventory is nor really challenging but frustrating for not real reason, specially if you start with a different character in the very same world. Terraria is a game that allows you to fail in order to be better prepared for next time, since there's always a next time, even on hardcore.

This isn't good idea user.
On smaller worlds it gets even worse.
Try to make world with TerraCustom.

Gas yourself user.

Confirmed female like I confirmed your mother was years before you were conceived.

Fucking why?

I thought that was Brisbane

Oh no, you gotta make a new world when you die. We Ironman now.

There is only one reason.

You can still get them by moving the bag to a hardcore character instead of just fighting the eye with one.

PFFT, LOOK AT THIS CASUAL

No I don't have a screenshot unfortunately. But 13753074 in the archive posted a couple screens of it. The haunted church was off to the left a ways of the main base past the angler lake, fairly close to the snow biome, made out Ruins brick. There was enough to make it an ruins biome and spawn ruin ghosts. Was working on a big stone slab path to the cathedral with the other saints before the server disappeared.

I fucking hate this game some times.

The Bosses are the only good thing about expert mode. The rest is absolute bullshit.

Or she's underage and hasn't started having her period yet.

No, the best husbando is the mushroom.

Procedural generated worlds at it's finest. It would be nice if there were some guidelines while creating a world, like crimson/corruption can't spawn in or near the jungle. Desert it's fine, as long as there's more than 1 dessert and so on. I remember when Pyramids were so rare that they didn't even spawn in worlds some times.

Summons cheese absolutely everything.

I mean, sure, if you have a husbando you're already gay, but still.

Terraria was one of the top indie games and they're just now discovering it?!

These "people" don't play video games. All they do is search high and low for something to be offended about.

You forget that we also have turncoats who would do anything for one spec of recognition from a female.

What?

Admirable airship for such a small build.

I want to get a more comprehensive/interesting world out of it. More special biomes, biomes interacting with each-other in more ways, the world's generation and your spawn altering which bosses you fight and in what order you fight them as either an emergent or explicit property.
Diving into examples, here:

If you wanted it to be emergent, you'd try to set it up such that doing things the same way over and over or hunting down the same weapons is possible, but cumbersome, encouraging instead exploration and finding new things with neat or unique tools found in newly explored areas. Ideally, those neat or unique tools wouldn't be immediately obsoleted, or they'd significantly alter gameplay.
If you wanted it to be explicit, you'd set up measures to increase the player's impact on the world. A basic system I just thought up on the spot would be to have 'cores' spread about for each biome, with each core broken making part of it turn into no-man's land or weakening the biome's effects on the surroundings. As drops are altered by biome along with enemies and bosses, you'd have an immediate and intentional impact on your play. One could hunt down every core and make the whole world vanilla, for instance, but you'd set it up so that as ratios changed, so would progression.
Ex: When tundra dominates at least 10% of the world, scattered snowstorms strike and winter comes early. Snowmen now have a rare boss trigger item drop, much like floating eyes do in 'normal' territory. When tundra dominates at least 30%, normal bosses are less likely to come when called, new and exclusive resources have grown/developed in the tundra, more biome specific bosses have been unlocked, not unlike how Jungles work right now- just applied to all of them at any given time.

Other than that sort of lateral improvement, I can't see Terraria getting more complex or tall without becoming an inexcusable grindfest.

Shield of Cthulu is the best thing about Expert and I can't even stand playing without it anymore.

The worm is infinitely easier to kill than the twins. It's easier to cheese too, since the worm uses a dumb AI and depends of blocks beneath you, just make an elevated arena and she probably won't even reach you, and if she does, she will get stuck in 1x1 blocks. The twins are a pain in the ass to kill, most fast moving enemies are.
Just by finding new ways to make things interact with each other and giving you more and more options, viable ones at it, it's interesting and means you don't need to do things the same way over and over. Having more biomes and interactions between them already gives you an excuse to explore them or exploit them. I don't have high hopes for Otherworld or Terraria 2, but damn I wish they can pull something neat. Terraria 1 is good in my opinion because it's pretty simple and yet it's enjoyable. I know that will be lost with the sequels, though.

It's a shame you don't get the neat rewards in normal mode, though, I want to play relaxed as I used to.

It's a giant mechanical worm.

I don't know why I used she. I can't find a logical reason either.

Maybe she's a clever girl.

Oh what's this supposed to make
Well this could be interesting

These mods are so broken I love it. Now doing 220 dps at a time when your top should be like 50, it's bretty gud. Game's still a challenge, but it's cool that there's things that break the game in little ways.

Also r8 my housing autism, gotta go comfy

A lot of worms are hermaphrodites.

That's wide, not tall, and why I proposed a more robust sandbox rather than, say, super-hard endgame++ content. I think I'd be happy to dump hours into exploring different biomes or hybrid-biomes or varieties of bosses, things like that, and I appreciate simple, so I'd want the best of both worlds.
In my 'explicit' example, I looked towards a new gameplay goal. Since the first game focused on the dungeon and ambiguous progression towards the Moon Lord, I think it'd be cool if the second one was 'man shaping nature' or something like that, where your actions affect which endgame you'll hit in a meanigful way, as though your very actions decide the winners or losers of the world's struggle- culminating in you having to fight the final boss of whatever biome(s) come out on top. Jungle-Desert mix? Huge scorpion that spits mobs everywhere. Just Jungle? Fuck you, the Dryad turns into Mother Nature herself. Just Desert? I hope you're ready for a live-action remake of Dune. In other words, two players at the same point in progression in two different worlds could have a radically different experience.
One scenario based on this I think would be really funny would be choosing to purge the whole world of non-vanilla biomes entirely, thereby establishing a perfect little paradise. The devs could give that route the hardest boss of all, complimented by the fact that the player would have to fight it with only marginal resources, given that you purged all of the fun areas before they grew to fruition. Maybe you have a sand gun or something lame like that, but in the end, you'd be a vanilla knight in shining armor with a remarkably normal bow pinging shots off Not!Satan. Just a thought.
Naturally, that's all assuming the player isn't a baby-back bitch who'd import a bunch of fancy weapons, but who would ruin the fun like that?

Looks like you gave up on the basement housing the the third picture, everything else is excellent.

Maybe the word for "worm" is a feminine word in your first language?

Well that's the end for me.
Seriously what the fuck was the idea for crimson to spread into jungle?
It's not even a matter of getting a corrupted jungle but that the blocks are turned from mud to dirt, so you can't purify it back and you still miss shit like chlorophyte, life fruits and plantera.
This one mechanic is seriously retarded.

Kill and progress faster.

I suggest you get the Solutions mod, since it can at least treat that issue, though not eliminate it.
It adds clentaminator solutions that can spread/destroy jungle/ice/marble/granite biomes, fill areas with stone/mud/etc. I prefer it over tools like TEdit for the most part since I'd rather make changes to the world like that in-game. Pic related is a marble biome I turned to stone, then ice, then corrupted.

It's no use.
The fucking crimson did the whole nice fucking shitstain that go through all the fucking underground.
It's over, the jungle is fucked.
What I would fucking LOVE and ADORE is a mod that prevent the corruption from going over the jungle.

I mean what the fuck, why does it do that?
It's not like desert or ice where it adds a mixture between the two biomes, no, it's just a fucking shitstain that ruins a whole biome without a chance to prevent it.
How the fuck can I quarantine the god damn jungle if the game just decides to paint a fucking red or purple shitstain all across the underground?
It's fucking over, my jungle is fucking gone, unless I spent 4 hours with a god damn clentaminator all around that fucking shit or I get TEdit and modify the map itself into a buggy mess and I am not doing either.

Fucking Christ Red, so many good things you did and you drop the ball with the worst possible mechanic in the game.

And the worst fucking part is that after I killed Wall of Flesh in the world where the crimson decided to eat my jungle, no fucking natural hallow spawned.
Or correction, it did spawn like 3 fucking blocks in the tundra that make no hallow enemy spawn, I had to make my own fucking hallows.
Oh but thank god there is crimson, 4 different fucking patches in the god damn map, with an addition of the 5th one being my fucking jungle.

That has always annoyed me, doesn't help that the game allows corruption/crimson to spawn right on top of the jungle which is a vital biome during the end game, nothing kills the game faster for me then having to spend hours building ugly hellivators everywhere before the WoF just to protect the fucking jungle.
They have added Corrupted/Crimson biomes for stuff like the desert and snow so I don't know why they haven't done it to the jungle which is way more important then either of those.

Yeah, the only preventative measure you can do is make sure the underground hallow spawns on the jungle side instead of crimson/corruption, ultimately, and there's no way to determine if it will at the start of the game. Hallow will never spread through mud blocks though as far as I've seen. I also trash a world immediately before even playing it if I see corruption/crimson in the jungle.

You could still fix it with Solutions like I said though, it also adds a few accessories which adjust the clentaminator's range up to 4x the normal radius, unless you've got a large map it would only take a few minutes of spraying to have most of the jungle back

The jungle should be an incorruptible Biome. I think a way to fight it back is Hallow since hallow don't corrupt the Jungle but I might be wrong.
Alternatively, start a new world with your current character and progress faster. This one sucks because you're already familiar with your previous world, though.

I want my comfy game, though.

Hellivators are easy to build if you decide to cheese and bring a DCU, though.

The game would be a lot better if there were conditions for spamming and it wasn't enterely random. If the devs know the Jungle can get fucked by corruption it would make sense that hallow would ALWAYS spam towards the jungle side.

You can protect the jungle from Crimson/Corruption by putting a bit of Hallowed at its edges. Hallowed cannot spread on jungle blocks, so it's a simple natural barrier.

If you really wanted to, you can also make jungle blocks yourself by planting a mushroom biome and then converting it with green Clentaminator solution.

...

is there a mod that fixes drills? makes them actually comparable to their pickax counterparts.

This is my foundation for a castle. How am I doing?

...

...

Any of you niggers hosting?

"Fixes"? They are the same, drills are just loud and annoying.

I don't know, I don't like it for some reason. I hope you can turn it off.

I'm sure we will be able to. You can with water and the snow/sand shaders after all.

Means I can still play on my toaster. Despite the input lag on the keyboard

All this new effects usually do is bloat the already stretched engine. I hope they can move to Terraria 2 or other world already.

Stretched how? Performance?

Yes. The terraria engine is in it's absolute limit with all the shit it's getting added, and somehow the devs keep finding ways to ass more.

They are redoing the engine somewhat. That's what the real focus of 1.3.5 and 1.3.6 is about.
Blame Engine for that.

When is Otherworld supposed to come out anyway?

Nobody really even knows. Engine Software were the ones doing most if not all of the development work on Otherworld and they fucked it up with delay after delay. So Relogic fired them and replaced them with Pipeworks.
Now Pipeworks is going over all of Engine's old work and and seeing what they are going to have to redo. Maybe all of it, who knows how bad Engine fucked it up. All we know right now is that they are still going to keep music that Otherworld had before and that the focus of the game is still going to be Terraria + tower defense.

I didn't even know they were outsourcing it, so what is red working on then Terraria 2?

Well for awhile Red left the B-team in charge of Terraria wile he explored and learned a new programming language for his next project, which apparently wasn't Terraria 2 but something called "SuperX". Nothing else was was known about what SuperX was but people theorized that it was a spiritual successor to SMBX with all the Nintendo IPs stripped out.
The purpose of Otherworld seemingly was to bridge the gap between the end (mostly) of Terraria's development and the later unknown date of Terraria 2 while Red could work on a non Terraria game in the meantime. That's why Engine was handling the development. Of course Engine shit the bed with that, so Red returned to help with Terraria's development which is probably why Terraria's engine is getting an over hall, since it has to bridge the gap until Otherworld gets fully off the ground.

Otherworld looks like dog shit imo.

It really fucking does.

Yeah that's one of the reasons it was delayed. Engine didn't do a good job with spriting and Terraria fans were vocal in that that regard. The later screenshots looked better than the first ones but Engine was moving forward at a glacial pace.
It seems like now maybe the coding wasn't up to snuff either from all accounts.

It looks so pretty in the thumbnails and then you get indieshit abominations when you expand them.

Yeah it's too flat and it lacks a dark outline for a couple of things. Who knows how much or if ANY of the art we've seen is going to make it into the Pipeworks version. All of what I've posted may be gone now. They're even redoing the logo.

I think the problem is that Otherworld looks a lot like Starbound, almost a carbon copy even on the interface. The whole "you'll receive quests!" thing always sounded fishy to me. I don't mind a different art direction as long as the game is good, but both ends didn't look too promising.

I like the whole "tower defense" concept, but you don't see anything about it on those screenshots. and the "new features" already exist on Terraria.

It looks like mix of terraria and starbound.
Disgusting, the fact that it looks like this worries me a little.

Fortunately it may not anymore.

I always thought Starbound's one single sole good point was better sprite art than Terraria.

Define better. It's different, more detailed, but as for "pixel art", it looks just like any other indie pixel shit. There's no black outline so colors usually mash together too.
I'd say they are different, Terraria's style is simplistic, and I'm sure that's one of the reasons it's work. It's more "blocky".

Not really.
Starbound sprites were more detailed, but they were garbage for building anything.
So I just didn't even bother with it.

Yes, hopefully.

Maybe that's why I liked them. They looked better "out of the box" and didn't require me to be artistic to actually make anything good looking.

The jungle can now fight back with chlorophyte, since it spreads to other blocks similar to how the Hallow/World Evil does. The difference lies in that chlorophyte spreads less the more of it there is, so the jungle can't spread to entire worlds.

Hope this doesn't fuck with my frame rate again on the already horrendously optimized linux "port" (Mono garbage).

The easiest solution would be to allow corruption/crimson to simply make an evil jungle rather than replacing it.
The hallow wont harm the jungle but the hallowed solution for the clentaminator WILL destroy the jungle by turning mud to dirt. The best way to protect the jungle is with glowing mushroom biome. Dark blue solution doesn't harm mud and is 100 % reversible. You can even spread it pre hardmode by moving the dryad to a mushroom biome and buying a ton of seed from her. It's a long process if you do it that way since you have to first knock out all of the jungle grass manually in areas you want to protect.

Does anyone actually not make a long walkway to fight the Wall of Flesh? I always do the same thing now and I wonder if this is the 100% completely intended way to fight it.

I miss old /tg/. I miss it almost every day.

no drills are not affected by modifiers and mining bonuses. honestly I kinda like the sound but I will admit I wish it was a little quieter.

I managed to do it with the lava walking accessory but I am pretty sure a long walkway is the way to "properly" do it.

I completely agree with you, I had a similar situation but I went ahead and fixed it the hard way saving my jungle. I went ahead and downloaded the solutions mod and undid all the retarded amounts of damage though when the corruption went right through it.

The laser drill is right nice.

I don't get the image, what else am I supposed to see besides the 40k stuff?

3DPD tits.

The Mane Six?

Can't unseen.

The update for console PS4 is out, just in case anyone was wondering.

Eh, it's a sandbox so there's no true answer to that beyond the basic game progression. My recommendation is to make a simple shitshack when you spawn so you'll have a place to duck and cover at night, from there start exploring the surface and nab whatever chests you can. If you find yourself with money then start building a separate room/shack for the merchant to spawn and go from there. If you find explosives then build a room for the demolitionist. The game essentially forces you to progress simply because you need materials to craft shit that aren't readily available until you start killing bosses. Most of the pre-hardmode boss summoning items can be found in chests on or right below the surface. Kill the EoC, start working your way through the underground corruption. From there you should start definitely finding guns especially after smashing shadow orbs, with a gun in your inventory the arms dealer can spawn. You just keep going from there. The real progression in the game pretty much lies in crafting shit, with every new tier of shit to make you gotta either kill/farm bosses or start exploring more underground

tbh I hate all those NPCs. They all have boring personalities and manly shoulders. I just started the thread with that pic because I knew it would attract the thirsty weebs.

IT HAS BEGUN!

Engine were the worst, I'm glad they're gone.

Spoiler that shit, faggot.

Rate my tree.

Damn, nice work.

Needs a rope to go up instead of annoying platforms. I'de rather hold a button than jump over and over. Dunno how to feel about the green torches. Whenever I make living wood builds I usually do everything I can to avoid any fire but that's just my autism. I almost wish torches did start fires though.

I'm so used to my flying saucer mount that I barely even thought about what it'd be like to jump up. Good idea though.

6/10 it's missing a bedroom, at the very least.

Platforms makes it look pretty good, though, regardless of practicality.

I bet you defend the cancerous spiral staircase fad shit as well. A series of vines or a teleporter setup with larger rooms would work better.

Yes I do. You know why? Because at that point in game I'm probably in end game. When I want to play the game for it's gameplay I go for simple commie blocks, faggot, where you can add any of those if you want.
Looks > Practicality
Here's one tree I was doing that I lost with a corrupted file

No bedroom because this is a second house because I needed more rooms for NPCs. My other house is floating right above this one on a cloud.

Fastest way to kill the Wall of Flesh (on Expert)? Here's my usual progression:

-Get a net
-Do some mining until I have a good bow
-Trek to the ocean and fish a Reaver Shark
-Farm some goblin fabric and summon an army to get the Goblin Tinkerer
-Dig to the Underworld and very carefully mine hellstone to get armor and bow
-Get a Demon Scythe
-Kill Skeletron
-Get Mechanic
-Get Cobalt Shield
-Wander around until I have 400 health, maybe look for an Anklet of the Wind in jungle
-make an emerald/ruby/diamond robe and get a wizard hat
-fight Wall of Flesh

This still ends up taking quite a huge amount of time. What can be reasonably be cut out of this? What could be done better?

Maybe Skeletron could be fought a bit earlier? Anyone have a really good strategy for handling Skeletron early? The Mechanic and some stuff in the dungeon early on would sure make it a lot easier to do some of this other stuff.

Remembering what I saw once from a speedrun, using dynamite on a massive platform through hell makes short work of the expert WoF, provided you time it right and have hermes boots to outrun the wall later on.

Yeah I've seen the dynamite speed run before, that seems a little tough for my skill right now.

Oh, plus I usually try to find a handgun in the Dungeon, just to make the arms dealer spawn.

Enjoy not being able to share around your house and being fucked if you ever play tedium core.
There's also the fact that it's a gimmick build technique that's been done to death already. Also I remember that pic from the last thread. I (rightly) shit on it for not only looking like commie blocks but for the cancerous spiral staircase as well. Even your liquid generators are inefficient.

A better method
Potion buffs also help.

You know ichor only shows up after the Wall of Flesh has been killed, right?
