So I'm finally starting to get the hang of stick fighting in MH2, at least with the basic Sword. Charging the Greatsword is still eluding me though.

You know what will be incredible? If monsters are still immune to damage while they're stuck in the area transition walk. They already did it in MHX. You literally cannot kill a monster that has initiated the area change animation, either walking, digging, or flying.

Well Blos always become immune to sonic bombs when they enter rage mode, which is like 90% of G-Rank hunts against them. Still it's also why you can't flashbomb flying wyverns when they're taking off, nor can a gunner kill them.

I do agree with you though. I am planning on trying the beta by piggybacking off of my friend's goy gold account. I'm not expecting to suddenly think this is an amazing game but i'm looking to see if the foundation for them to make a good MH game is there. At worst it's exactly what everyone thinks it is and this is a one off project until we get MH5 and at best it's a game to keep an eye out on the cheap in the future. I'm just looking to play video games at the end of the day.

So I bought monster hunter for the Wii U and wouldn't you know it? It's the exact same game for the wii. They couldn't even fix the framerate.

3G was the G version, so the first half of the game is mostly the same, the majority of the added content is after the original game ends. Even at the beginning though, you should notice that you have the full range of weapons and Bowguns are back to being two separate weapon types I think they made online play free for 3G instead of a paid service like in Tri, but I'm not 100% sure on that

The fact that you can run while using items and firing guns, and really just never have to commit to any action is definitely part of it. There's also the fact that Armor has been dumbed down and getting Armor Skills active no longer requires any real thought or work since you just freely get things for even a single point while removing Minus Skills, as well as the infinite restocking on items and swapping out of gear at any of the multiple base camps you can freely teleport to at any time, gear that includes boost items that work like Hunting Skills from X on steroids by giving you the equivalent of 40-60 points of Armor Skills reusably. The stages themselves look to get in the way of fighting the monster inexorably by adding in long empty corridors to run through to replace loading screen area connections, and to even find the monster they're pushing a magical glowing green trail of shit you activate by running up and touching predetermined points on the map for no good reason; maps that are also littered with free traps and healing items, some of which require no input from the player whatsoever to benefit from. Then there's the monsters themselves, who will focus on attacking one another rather than the player in a magical cut scene-like dance that leaves them vulnerable to the Hunters' attacks while they do vast amounts of damage to one another. Not that they'd pose any threat even without that factor, since by removing Village and making the entire game multiplayer-capable while also making monsters scale based on the number of players, you're only allowed to fight a gimped monster that's 1/4 as strong as it should be.

You say the scout flies make the game auto play itself but you seem to selectively forget that monsters in the classic games will always be found in the same area in the classic games if you're fast enough. Let's not pretend actually finding the monster was a major part of the formula. It wasn't. You would struggle to find it maybe once or twice and then simply remember the number it spawns at, rush there as quickly as possible and slay it.

Monster Scaling was in the original games, too. You got less rewards for killing the monster solo, but village quests were always easier than gathering hall stuff. I swear it's like you never actually played monster hunter and just came here to shitpost.

But I trust the MH4U devs. It is my favorite in the series.

I honest never imagined there would be so much viritol on here about this game. It is the one game besides Dragon Quest XI I was going to get next year. A monster Hunter game a big open map that requires you to explore and track down the monster using clues plus you have a crazy grappling gook that lets you zoom around using the local fauna, monsters can encounter each other in the wild and get into territorial fights, plus an immensely improved ability to interact with the environment like using vines to trap monsters, ect ect ect.

I thought everyone here would have been hype as fuck about this one. I never buy games day one or anything but I was definitely leaning towards it on this one.

Mate, I want the game to be good. I would love nothing more than for it to defy all my expectations and turn out to be a great game. There's too many bad games out there as is, and I've seen too many series I love killed, of course I don't want more. That said, when they come right out and say in one of the first interviews after the reveal that it's being built specifically for people who don't like the games, and every piece of information shown since makes the game look worse and worse, it's hard to really stay optimistic.

I forget, because my memory is hazy, but didn't every monster hunter have farcasters that let you fasttravel DURING combat? You can't fast travel if you're actively in combat with a monster in world you have to escape from the monster which is harder to do because there are no zones.

I don't think the game will be hurting for content. They have been working on it since the release of 4U in Japan. There is always the free DOC, too. They might decide to keep releasing content for years, unlike previous entries. I only believe this because of all of the community features they are implementing in the game. They intend for people to play it for years, like an MMO style game. We'll see though.

Yeah but throw in easy escape with all the other casual shit like potion while moving, monsters being slower etc. It's a huge casual mess. The combat looks fun as fuck but everything else screams casual. Free traps everywhere, max potions laying on the ground, fireflies to highlight everything. It's baby mode monster hunter. They could have done open world/seamless zones without casualizing everything else.

Free healing is not new. You could set you shakalakas to heal you in 3U, same with the palicos from 4u/gen/x/xx.
Stuff like bones, minerals, etc are easy to find without the highlighting, maybe we could turn it off? We'll see.

I'm unsure how to farm honey for mega potions either as honey gathering locations in the field give me two at best and the farm doesn't have any, although the cat in the farm keeps talking about a hive existing even though one doesn't exist.

Yeah theres almost no defending that with the exception of my last statement. I like the environmental hazards that you could use against the monsters though. I just want there to be more things that could hurt you in the environment too, I remember seeing a poision puddle in the forest, that was neat i guess.

Just wanted to let you know, it's been confirmed fireflies cannot be turned off, but fireflies only highlight stuff related to tracking the monster anyway, so it wouldn't be related to gathering materials?

The healing has to be specced onto the cat this time around as well, the only difference is the cooldown seems to be short but there's at least 7 levels of healing and all the videos are presumably showing off level 7 healing, so I've no idea if that affects the cooldown and/or healing amount, also the cat likes to use it even when you're at full health as per previous games.

Also, I went into the mechanics of the healing bugs floating around a thread or two back, but it appears our resident anti-shills failed to take notice. Long story short, it's about as useful as it was in previous games, less so as you have to go over and hit the bugs manually to get the heal within a smallish area whereas in previous games you'd get the heal as long as you were in the same region.

Souls Sacrifice is so great not just the gameplay but technical stuff that for some reason, never implemented by other dev. Why the fuck is it called a beta when, from what they've told people, has the exact same setup as the demos on the 3DS (three quests, 4 player co-op)? According to a leak that's been 100% correct so far, there are about 30 monsters at launch but there are quite a few pairs of monsters with similar traits like Lunastra and Teostra, Radobaan and Uragaan, etc.

I personally don't see it. The game looks colorful as fuck. The only MonHun that sticks out to me as being overly colorful is MH4U all of the others were pretty muted in comparison much like world. But you also have areas like the Coral Highlands and Rotten Vale that are crazy colorful and have lots of bright popping colors.

This is how they introduced the game, are you blind? All the colors are muted and gray, you can barely tell Rathalos apart from Rathian at a glance.

well it is smudges theres too much shadows that dim the colours and too much brightness on surfaces giving it more glare from the sun. having that with less saturation the colours are faded with all that stuff onto it.

if you were to casually travel around, nothing would stand out, when the player was searching for the monster, the only thing that standed out mostly were the fireflies or whatever they are. Everything was dim in comparison, slightly foggy at a distance and its just washed up.

All things considered they might already have G Rank in the game already. We simply don't know shit. They have been working on this game since the release of vanilla MH4. That is over 4 years of development time. No one knows what the end game will look like. The only thing we know for sure about post launch content is there will be timed hunts only available on specofoc weekends and free content drops like all of the other MonHuns probably stuff like event quests for goofy stuff like the Fan Club outfits. So far they have said nothing about paid DLC except a preorder bonus and there will be no microtransactions or lootboxes. The fact that they have been pretty mum about season pass shit and other paid DLC and the fact that they have been working on this game since 2013 gives me some hope that Capcom won't go full cancer on this one. If they do decide to charge for G Rank I couldn't imagine them charging more than 20 dollars for it. Putting the total price for the full game plus g rank content around the same price as two 3DS games, which also total 80 dollars.

I didn't like the idea of timed availability hunts because I might not always be able to play monster hunter on a given day, so it's one more benefit of being released on PC that people will be able to save the hunts and you could probably just download them to have access any time. Also, potential mods might add even more to the game.

I agree. To think we might have gotten that stuff brings me joy and then sadness. I particularly like the alchemist and tome armor "classes".
I for one like magic systems in games and find it to be a bit lacking in this franchise, as it could be done in a way that feels natural to the MH universe far more than some of the other stuff they've implemented. As a Hammer player, one of the things that scares me most about world is how they've been changing terrain, ever since tri, they'e been adding wacky movement and weird uneven terrain, which fucks over positioning based weapons like hammer. In World this looks even worse with really weird angles, even more cliffs, and some super tight corridors. Hopefully im wrong, but this all seems likes a second hand nerf to these kinda weapons. I'm really scared anons.

The main issue is they got rid of paintballs and with how there's no more zones, per say, knowing where the monster spawns is less reliable as more often than not.
The fireflies appear to be a necessity, although I wish you could tone them down.

not only paintballs but also the psychic skill, as the more clues you get from the monster the more the global level of your scoutflies go up, after a while instead of the scoutflies appearing, you just get the position of the monster in the map automatically.
The only good thing about this is the side effect that after a while the scoutflies are gone and you don't have all that brilliant shit on your screen.

Correct, tmonstre you learn about a monster by fighting it and interacting with the clues the more the research on that specific monster levels up. It also fills out an in game wiki that shows you weak points and drop rates and such. I personally find this feature to be really neat.

The smaller corridors function much the same way as the loading screens did in the classic games according to the devs. A monster running through them seems to ignore everything and makes a beeline to the next zone much like the classic games. You probably won't be fighting much monsters there.

A lot of people compared Demon's Souls to MonHun when it came out, I imagine this is happening because a lot more normies know about the souls games and need a point of reference. I used this tactic to sell MonHun to some of my Girl friends and they wanted to try it. So I guess it works.

This, it's just padding, replace loading screens with corridors you have to run through, at least with load screens you could just rest for a few seconds instead of having to hold forward, not to mention that it will probably take much longer to navigate the corridors than the load screens ever did.

Because you can still fight the monster in the corridors and the monsters can still chase you in there. That only happens when the monster tries to escape. This means you can't escape from the monster by running to the next zone. This is their reasoning for letting you slowly walk while eating.

Doing that comes with a risk though, entering the zone after healing can result in you tanking a hit from a monster since you don't know how things are on re-entry, plus you can't do that in Arena and other areas like the Tower since once you go in the only way out is farcaster. In other words, if moving while healing is to soften the blow of removing a strategy, it also makes quests where you can't use that strategy a lot easier.
I'm surprised at the amount of people that leave an area to heal, I've always done it near the monster unless it's like an enraged Rajang and I took a lot of damage really quickly because I acted like a complete moron.

Sharpening only takes one scrape, you have infinite whetstones and you can jog while healing. Its the monkeys paw dude.
The instant fast traveling to camps is kinda gay but with that kind of map size running around everywhere constantly would start to become a pain pretty early on.

The paintball was a dumb mechanic that did not make much sense at all anyways. If the monsters are never in the same place and move around from the beginning in world, I could easily guess why scoutflies would be kinda necessary in that regard, instead of just guessing where the monster is. Which wasnt exactly too hard in the previous games especially with the fact that they always spawn in the same area.

Sadly, you can outpace the monsters without even running, while they were showing the game the dev had to actually stop and go back to aggro the monster again because the player was way faster than it.

It won't be as detailed and precise as the Dex, so it's kind of pointless really. I would've preferred if they made you fill in that information yourself based on your observations from hitting the monsters in different hit zones yourself, since as is it's entirely superfluous.
