Space Thread:Planet Glassing Edition

Welcome to another Space Thread Captains,Admirals and Emperors. So gather around and share your stories, exploits, challanges and goals

So please come in and share in this great space thread.

Question for the thread, What is your favorite way to destroy planets? Do you prefer something quick and painless ala Planet cracking or do you prefer to show your power and instill fear by glassing it?

Also I just watched the EA battlefront 2 campaign and it was just another generic terrorist defection story

...

...

After recent events I feel like this should have been a Planet KIller edition.

Elite Dangerous

Classic music in the background

Nothing, really, I'm playing as a space postman, but after upgrading my adder's lasers and installing a guided rocket launcher, I'm having some fun with the random encounters.

Also, this game es beautiful as fuck.

Playing Starpoint Gemini as it seems like the only decent space game right now.

Trying to figure out Dominions 5
Open Hexagon OST
Getting invaded more than I can invade atm.

Starpoint Gemini is a surprisingly fun game, especially a pirate campaign where you can't buy most of your ships so you have to plan out which ships to hijack so you can get bigger ships with more marines to capture increasingly large ships. Also those fucking mercenaries that constantly hunt you.

The rest of it as I heard it is
WOW I WONDER WHAT INSPIRED THIS PLOT

still shilling this garbage
shipbuilding is fun

Yeah the only thing I don't like about it is the enemy scaling. Its lazy and I hate that shit in any game. I'm also playing it in 4k so I can't read any of the fucking text. Even with the big text mod.
Still a good game though and its scratching that Freelancer itch not like there's anything else

There is your E:D fuckup update, I will continue to report on FrontierDev's continued efforts to ignore the community that is the only reason the game is still alive and drive the game into the dirt with updates and shit people want not arriving until next year.

oh it also proves that the CGs are just being used to drag this shit out as despite the CG technically failing the new anti-thargoid weapons "locked" behind the CG where handed out to station outfitters anyway.

How come Disney or EA can't make a decent plot for any movie or game? It's always that same fucking plot, as if Lucas never released the first two trilogies. It'd be cool to see some pirates once in a while, or some infiltration on Coruscant of all places. Some fucked up shit happened there that the Empire and the ancient Sith kept hidden away that was pretty fuckin' important.

They are also hinting that the Defector is Rey's mother or some other bullcrap

Please no

Rouge one was a pretty big leap from the usual formula and I'm hoping, seeing that success they'll do some different things for 8
EA admitted that Battlefront 2 was rushed to get some of that Star Wars hype for episode 8. The last half of the single player isn't in even in the game yet. I've seen some argument that with all these movies there is no room for a Star Wars game plot that could do anything interesting without making their own characters and then instantly killing them off like Rouge One cause it would have to be part of the universe now Star Wars is a cinematic universe. My guess is the whole plot was a rushed mess and they did not spend the time to talk to any of the official writers and work something interesting out.

Fuck you.

Oh wait I guess the prequels did that a lot.
Excuse me I had managed to forget the prequels where a thing.
sorry for being optimistic about episode 8 on 8ch, I'll go end myself now

*fit into the original trilogy

Reminder that dimensional eclipse for freespace 2 has been re-released again because if you try to search all that comes up is the broken original release or the nonexistant first re-release
I had to contact the fucking author to find this out
hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=87664.0

The interesting stuff Rogue One did wasn't just killing its entire cast, but setting a movie in the star wars universe that wasn't all about space wizards and their high tech butter knives.
Its likely the closest we'll ever get to a movie version of Republic Commando or a movie about a group of stormtroopers hunting down a cell of terrorists or a movie about Bobba Fett hunting down bounties.
It gave us a side of star wars that was completely different from the usual formula. So what if CGI Tarkin and Leah looked like shit? Personally I'd much rather have more of Rogue One if thats what it takes to not have to sit through more movies about some douchey teenager with daddy issues acting out.

Seems right.

I see. So you enjoy bad things, as long as they're star wars?
Here's a question, do you enjoy taking it up the ass too?

To add: are there any more spacegames/mods for spacegames that feature going real fucking fast?

user, Rogue one is a shitty Version of Renegade Squadron but then again we have two versions of Renegade Squadron, the other one is Twilight Company

My nigga.

xbtf is the best space game
you literally cannot prove me wrong

How would I know if I don't even know what the acronym stands for?

How do I make Elite Dangerous fun?

X Beyond the frontier

You kill niggers in trading ships and farm salt, or you make an 800m/s Imperial Eagle and go canyon running.

You play it once a year for a few hours. Alternatively, play with friends.

Have they actually added any co-op functionality? Last time I played the only thing you could do with friends was to group up in a flight wing or whatever, but there were no group missions and no real group content

Strike Suit Zero and Everspace

I don't know. When I play with a pal, we just kind of fuss around. No clue how fleshed out it is.
Fool.

Are there any games or mods that let me play Legend of Galactic Heroes?

There is one for Sins of a Solar Empire but it's unfinished and abandoned. There is also an untranslated nip game.

Yeah all I could find was that Nip game and a Stellaris mod.

So is Elite dangerous worth playing yet? It looks pretty in screenshots but I don't want to play something bare bones.

Then don't play E:D.

I see, thank you user.

Speaking of Freespace, I would like to talk about Blue Planet Mod and how retarded the UEF is.

I tried the original Battlefront, if I ever want to subject myself to a secondrate battlefield knock off like that again I'd have to start with getting a lobotomy.
My point wasn't about comparing the movie to a specific game so much as to point out that the Star Wars universe can be used for more than just stories about Jedi's, and that I would nice to get more movies focused on those other parts of the universe, rather than more jedidoggerel.

Blue Planet is retarded on the whole
Also, the idea that the GTVA would be able to launch a major war after the Second Incursion is ridiculous since they're in an even worse strategic position at the end of 2 than they were at the end of 1

It's way over hyped

wait, so you dont even fight for the dead empire the whole story?
I was expecting her to be "evil" the whole game and actually had some good qualities about her

Humanity tearing a whole into the immaterium and making a pact with Chaos would make a much more sensible and realistic plot :^)
Though tbh that's just because I want to see Khârn leaping into the maws of a Sathanas while wielding two Chain-Axes

Just give us a vector

Nope, and the worst part is that EA advertised it as a full imperial focused story.

Pity it isn't a gassing

When will I get a Gaylo dogfighter?

Well, the rebels become the new empire in the form of the new republic… i guess.

Star Traders: Frontiers (even though it's early access don't bulli), Warframe, Age of Wonders III
dank ylyl meme compilations, unironically
fucking goblin niggers right on top of my Heart of Blight i fucking reserved it you sassy cunts

And that would be an insult to the Empire because the rebels in cannon and in EU start off so corrupted that they collapse in less time due to their own machinations than the time it took for the Empire to fall to the rebels and then rise again, not counting all of the worlds that liked the Empire for bringing law and order.

And don't get me started on the new books in new cannon.

I miss the highly incompetent New Republic and how they caused the bloodiest period of galactic conflict with magnitudes greater loss of life than the Empire would have even dreamed of

You sort of do for a while after Battle of Endor. But that's where the plot starts to unravel. Apparently the emperor was a selfish autist and had a secret contingency plan called "Operation Cinder" which was essentially a scorched earth policy based on his belief that if the empire isn't strong enough to defend its emperor, then it wasn't strong enough to exist period, nevermind the fact in an autocracy the state is only as strong as its leader is capable. The protag is a drooling retard who spends 3 missions retrieving doomsday weapon parts only to realize it's going to be used on her homeworld. She has the sudden epiphany that the empire can and will do bad shit arbitrarily to anyone at any place while her homeworld burns down around her and that the rebellion was right all along. And then she joins the rebellion and runs a bunch of missions that don't really matter. Oh ya, her hook nose jew husband gets shot in the end. There's also some speculation that the daughter she has with her jew husband is mary sue Rey from ep 7.

Good news user, that's still cannon.

Disney is fucking gay, the REAL Sheev had a better contingency plan which was to fucking clone himself and move to a new clone body every time he died. I want my god damn Dark Empire movie.

You're not alone in this feeling comrade.

Who can spot the cancer in this image?

All of it

i dont have that picture, can you post it, user-kun

well, we are in h8chan, fire away, user

what the fuck? i was expecting a huge ruse were he was cloning himself or ruling as a ghost form or something more interesting.

reminds me of that fps pic cluttered with useless info

I never read those books and only saw them in Rogue Squadron- what the fuck did the world devastators actually do? Like what kind of weapons did they have or what did they do to the planet underneath?

Chuck Wendig, "The Tie fighter wibble wobbles herkily and Jerkily careening through the air" the rebels also captured 3 SSDs and destroyed 6 in 6 months after the battle of Endor and then the battle of Jakku happened if I remember correctly. The best thing so far to come from new cannon is the Tarkin origin story book that gave him a great reason for his actions and outlook on life and even then I heard that book was originally a legends book that was forced to become a new cannon one.

They ate everything and spit out things the empire needed like speeders or weapons or ships and the Mother world devastator would spit out more of them

Dank Empire was pretty retarded. It single handledly managed to make Superweapons not scary nor seem like a threat.

I'll go one better, here's the thread:
hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=91051.0

So I asked this question last thread right before it dropped off but has anyone else played Avorion, and what's your opinion of it? For the most part I'm having decent fun, it's simple in a lot of it's features but it feels like a Sandbox done right. Any gripes or things I should avoid about it? I'm only a little ways in, but it doesn't seem too bad.

They were giant factory ships that ripped planets to shreds with tractor beams in order to turn them into things like said, and there were tons of them. So all the TIE Droids you fight in the Rogue Squadron mission are pretty much made out of the planet you are trying to protect.

nice!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh!

Explain? Site works for me. Unless you mean older links? In which case pixiv.net/member.php?id=3289549 That drawfag in particular I remember used to post in these threads.
Though Hard-Light seems to be having an issue with their site at the moment, know their wiki is fucked

its the individual links for the pics, thanks for the pixiv link

Ah no problem. Took me a few minutes to find it myself, couldn't remember where he had a profile.

Nope. That would require creative writing and an active imagination. Disney has taken some of the most interesting stuff in the expanded universe and then utterly wrecked it with their hack writing. Pic related.

Also, Battle of Jakku (second to last mission) was suppose to be the Empire's "last stand" where they tested their mettle against the rebel alliance. They did such a piss poor job of depicting the battle that it calls into question the actual size of the galactic empire.

What said, but they were also able to create other World Devastators as well as Star Destroyers.

I think that actually pisses me off a bit. Did they think no one would notice?

They wrote it down as the prototype for the B-wing, pure trash. Because a different Mon Calamari built this they retconned Ackbar out of the B-wing's creation completely.

What's a good or must have mod for Albion Prelude?

they also fuck over the tie defender

Don't forget TIE interceptors at least 2 years before they should exist.

The original origin of the Rebellion was that it was meant to be Imperial Officers, a lot with Old Republic Military backgrounds being disgusted with what the Empire has turned into, i.e. a Moff circlejerk rather than a force for stability and order. They brought experience, weapons and even warships to the Rebellion. Hell a good chunk of the Rebellion's initial pilots were former TIE Fighter pilots. How the Rebels supposedly got ahold of the original Death Star plans. A lot of them gave their lives so that the Rebellion could have a fighting chance.

Now how it is written is that the Rebellion was formed by a bunch of spoiled brats angsty that their daddy never got them that space pony they wanted and upset cause the Empire gave them a spanking and told them to stop being childish brats.

you also forgot to mention several Senators (Mon Mothma, Organa, and others) technically where the ones who planned a rebellion

Is Elite Dangerous any good? Seems like shittier EVE Online to be honest.

Every time I have heard someone talk about it its always about the grinding and lack of content.

That can't be it, surely? I had hoped that since all fast was killed off in shooters at least spess games would fill the hole in my heart

Freelancer has mods to go fast. But honestly you're hard pressed to find space games with a competent combat system, let alone fast. Someone else might know more games

All they have to do is copy Freespace and they can't even do that. Dimensional eclipse is pretty good considering the biggest change is just tripling the game speed, basically

I don't understand what's so hard about it. Other genres rip shit off all the time, but it seems like Mech and Space games can't do it for shit.

If you want competent speed you need to get a time machine and go back to the likes of G-Police or Colony Wars.
Incedentally, you should play them anyway because they're all fucking great, Psygnosis were damn top-of-the-game

blame harmonygold for that.

...

Did you get your patch of land, Holla Forums?

Has there ever been such an obvious and strangely well-circulated scam the likes of shekel citizen?

Snek Oil

So, are there any spehss games where glassing a planet is more impressive than having the small message "Planet X lost 15 HP" ?

too bad es boring as fuck, guey.

Aurora.

Karen Traviss is still on my shit list for what she did to the Mandalorians. She was the only one to ever write for Delta Squad to my knowledge however, so I'm torn whether I'd want their story to end or to be bastardized.

I used to play Space Empires, and my brother used to tell me that he could detonate suns to destroy any upstart empires, if that kinda stuff interests you.

I always used to get a particular forbidden type of feel nuking planets in sins of a solar empire.

If I recall correctly in Empire at War you can use the Death Star to reduce a planet to an asteroid field. Same in Galactic Civilizations 2, though you do need a lot of tech.
Speaking of which, I wish Stellaris had some way of destroying planets. As far as I know some of the late game events can reduce planets to barren (but terraformable) wastes and there's only a couple of ways to permascrew a world, none of which are really accessible to the player.

I liked how you could destroy planets in Sword of the Stars and the ayyliums laser destroyers in sins of a solar empire were pure sex.

Why would you glass a planet when you can do colony drops?

Lategame of a match of Interplanetary can get pretty impressive, although its generally a drawn out slog-fest of rail guns, rockets, lasers and the occasional hit from a diverted asteroid. That does a real number and is pretty neat to see.

user, name your favorite spaceship.

Elite Dangerous
Took a long break because i have other games to finish
nothing, was gonna finally get myself to watching some LOGH while I do nothing in ED, its comfy that way.
Nothing, just doing some space trucking and maybe go out and do some exploring.

At least I'm not buying digital land plots that are not even made or in a game for 50 bucks.

your loss, friend

Dis gon b gud.

stellaris sucks, just when it starts getting good, when you get your empire set up and have multiple powerful fleets, the performance goes down the toilet

Play with 25% habitable planets.

I've been looking to get in touch with the author of the original mod to see if he'd be willing to release control of his assets/mod for a port to SoaSE: Rebellion, but most likely I'd have to rebuild shit from scratch to make an up-to-date LoGH mod for Sins. It's worth doing, and doing right though, especially since it's probably the best space RTS for a mod based on the series with the slow pace, strategic layer, fortresses, fleets that mostly stand still and trade blows rather than maneuvering, etc. I'll probably post about it if anything actually manages to get done on it.

In general or in Freespace?

In general.

You might as well since you bought ED.

ED may be boring as fuck but at least it is a video game that exists and can be played.

...

Apparently the devs have a massive rework coming. Reading the forums, there are some good ideas but knowing them they will fuck it all up.

Plus, can't forget all the DLC jewing.

Again? Why can't they just make a good game in the first place instead of spending more time patching it after its been out than they ever did working on it before it released? Oh right, shekels.

That's kind of a hard question. I was going to say anything with rotating sections but those aren't ships those are just pornography I suppose I probably have a few to be honest that I could shortlist. I'm a fan of Klingon designs since any race that not only attempts but succeeds in putting a flamethower on a Starship is worthy of making the list. I actually may have to come back to you with that question once I had a good think about it.

for a low low price of 29.99!

Well, what would the hottest possible ship with rotating sections be like in your opinion, if it could have anything?

Stellaris makes me sad. There's so much potential for an awesome game but it's ruined by the devs. At least they're working on a huge content patch that should alleviate some of the problems it has. I'm having fun with my pirate version but there's no way I'm giving them money until they at least unfuck the military balance and unfuck the sector mechanics and AI.

What's wrong with the sector mechanics? As far as I know it's just helping you with a bit of automation. It's very helpful on a massive sized galaxy like the one I used to play (10k size).

You call that good?
Clones that have your memories are a shit concept

Wiz, is that you?

Prepare yourself for:
ONE Propulsion type: Hyper-lanes!
Did you like wormhole generation? Did you like the freedom of moving your ship from any star to any other relatively nearby star? Did you like not getting blocked by nigger ancient aliens and other faggots? TOO BAD, SUCK A COCK! and if you think that's bad, wait till you see what they've got in store for fleets!
HARD FLEET CAPS! Did you like having one or two fleets which were large enough not to get entirely decimated by enemies? Suck another cock you fucking retard! Now you can't have fleets above X size (to be announced). So that means you'll probably end up with TEN or TWENTY shitty fleets, instead of one or two good ones! This will totally solve the non-problem of "doom stacks" and not at all be a whole lot of micromanagement and in-the-end-it-doesn't-even-matter because you can just tell fleets to follow each other!
Speaking of fleets, were you annoyed that Stellaris isn't CK2 and that ships always stay the entire fight or until you tell them to retreat? Well then this is the update for you! Because now, unless you specifically change a policy (which can only be done if you're in the "bad guys" section of ethics) your ships will all run the fuck away if they think they might die! Because a broken fleet is more useful repairing at your space port instead of preventing the enemy fleet from crippling and killing you!
Now let's talk missiles, do you like them? Well, now all missiles use the torpedo slot. Also all missiles act like torpedoes. Hope you like lasers or guns you piece of shit - you'll be using them even if you don't!
I'm omitting a lot of things, there were a few big posts regarding these updates. I just felt the need to make this post because of the some good ideas comment. I just can't fathom how you think of it this way. I'm still going to play, mind you, but I'm sure I won't like what happens.

TL;DR: This update is going to be horrific.

Paradox has made me fear patches.

They weren't JUST clones of Palpatine user, They WERE him. His Ghost just jumped from body to body

WHAT THE FUCK ARE PARADOX THINKING BY IMPLANTING THIS SHIT? This is crazy, and it will only screw up more the balance & the content of the game. Truly Paradox have become shit, because even after EU4 & HoI4, I hoped that at least they would try their best with Stellaris. But NO, Stellaris is only barely ok, even after all the patches & content added, AND NOW THEY WILL TRASH ALL OF IT. Fuck this crap.

So let's see.

And here i was getting interested in next update what with its new alternateship models for humanoid aliens and new humanoid portraits.

Except they ARE going to tip the balance between larger stacks being hardly dented after decimating your slightly smaller stack, there will be measures so that you will at least slow down or cripple them enough so long as you're not tossing your ships against someone with over double your fleet power. They are also indirectly adding formations by enabling you to choose which kind of behavior your ship will have based on their battle computers, although I don't think this will change much in the game, honestly.

Warp has always been shit. At least wormhole took some thought and was actually fun to use, so it sucks having to say farewell to it. I hope there will be mods that re-enables the old FTL system, I quite liked it, but you should suck a cock anyway. Stellaris has fuck-all options for strategy when it comes to war BECAUSE of other FTL types, having it Hyper-lane only is actually fun and encourages smart decisions when it comes to choke points and colonization choices.
Except this is (sort of) good, you disgusting piece of shit.
This really isn't the ideal solution for how mind-numblingly BORING war is in Stellaris, but it sure as fuck helps. Even if you still try the good old Doomstack strategy, only a few of your fleets will have admirals because you only have so many leader slots, so your ships will be performing sub optimally.
Boy, it sure is fun clicking once with my doomstack into my opponent's capital and not giving a shit for the rest of the war!
Did you even read the entire post? There are SEVERAL of those policies, and the one your post illustrates gleams straight over the "Defense in Depth", that specifically SERVES the purpose of defending your shit with a low chance of retreat if you're a pacifist cuck or a passive piece of shit, like a last stand. Of course your people are going to be fucking PUSSIES if your empire is also a PUSSY, you can't expect them to fight like actual, fighting machines. There are even several other different doctrines that hopefully make a difference in the way you wage war. Sucks that they're empire wide and not fleet-specific, though. I'd love to specialize further from that.
Yup, sucks. I liked missiles too, sort of a risk-reward situation that was easily punishable.
Fuck yes, you are. There are going to be several changes to how borders are settled, the entire fucking WARSCORE system is getting revamped so it hopefully acts in a much better way, ships layouts are slightly redesigned now. Fuck, there's even free content that USED to be exclusively from Utopia that is going to go for free now, that being Ascension Perks.

No, that's not right.
Hopefully it's not, war in Stellaris has always been fucking shit, I just wish they'd add other victory conditions than basically peace through force.

Doomstacks have been a part of every paradox game, in fact a part of every RTS ever made, and complaining about them is fucking retarded. They exist for the simple reason that the more firepower you bring to the table, the faster the enemy's firepower is depleted due to casualties, and accordingly, the less damage you'll take overall. Overwhelming numbers will always bet the optimal choice.

Easier said than done. Even Sid and Wil has trouble making good games.

Look, I'm not saying overwhelming forces SHOULDN'T steamroll the other side, that's how 90% of conflicts in history were ever won, but you shouldn't be completely helpless against an enemy just SLIGHTLY stronger than you. There should be a space for responses that are actually helpful and can offer you an edge, otherwise you should just give up as soon as someone a little bit stronger than you attacks you, which is exactly how Stellaris has been for as long as it has existed.

You aren't, micro will still help you - moving your units to evade projectiles, instructing them to target the enemies they hard counter first, that kind of thing. The enemy will have a leg up and if his micro's just as good he'll probably win, but if your micro is better chances are you'll still win despite slightly different odds.

Oh, what's that, Paradox isn't actually adding micro? Well then I guess you're still just as fucked against superior numbers as you were before, and the idiotic fleet cap won't help with that.

You faggots are forgetting the part where smaller fleets will have big bonus to evasion, firerate and greater chance to disengage with less/no damage.
IF they don't completely fuck it up, one of the hopes is to use smaller harasser fleets to wear down a large stack.

But this is Pardaox we're talking about so I'm not optimistic.

Play Homeworld. The formation and tactics of the ships you use can heavily effect the outcome of battle. A redone Homeworld 1 Engine would make a good LOGH simulator

Holy shit what is paradox thinking?

I'm pretty sure I've seen all of those maneuvers watching gooks play Brood War.

I'm still buttmad that we went from "a lot of Bothan spies died for this info" to a bitch and her multicultural troop.

Wow, thanks Braben. I know it's for charity but fuck the rest of the t9 skins are shit tier compared to this.

The Bothan spies were always ROTJ and the Death Star II ya dingus.

You aren't. The AI is very exploitable. If the enemy is in your system and you bring in your own doomstack they will move to fight it. So, divide your doomstack and use one half to bait the enemy fleet while you use the other to bomb and conquer the enemy worlds.
It's still retarded, but it's sort of like using tactics against a somewhat superior force. Also, if you can catch the enemy ground troops when they're separated from their main fleet the enemy can't do anything to you.

Yeah, lowsec is cancer

It's a damn shame for China since this only works in video games

Vietnam and Korea are widely considered US defeats though.

carrier pvp is aids

Defeat in Vietnam was purely political. Burgers never lost any battles with the NVA or the VC, but the media at home still managed to drill it into people's heads that the south had already lost.
I'll half-give you korea though, since the chinks came in with the threat of nukes after the norks were all but defeated.

End your miserable existence

I enjoyed Stellaris 1.1 more than 1.7
It had less dumb features.

only having hyperlanes though will lower the computations required by the ai, which should mean that you can play the game >200 years on a large 1000 star map without any microlag

Where vietnam went fubar wasn't in the american politics, it was in the politics in South Vietnam.
All Guerilla wars are primarily convincing the locals to support your and fight the enemy, regardless of whether you are superior force or not.
Without the support of the locals, no resistance movement can succeed. They have a hard time trying to recruit, few places to hide and will lack local knowledge of the terrain and locals, if few or none of the locals will support them. If the supperior force cannot convince the locals to support them against the guerrillas in turn, the enemy will have all these things, and the harder you fight the enemy, the more locals get killed, either fighting for the enemy or caught in the crossfire and you will be blamed for all of it by the locals, sending them further into the guerilla's camp.
Its largely the same reason the Taliban have been winning in Afghanistan. They have far better PR with the locals than the corrupt politicians being kept in power by invading foreigners.
The only way to "win" a war like that with militarily is to commit a major genocide against the locals, which will just raise more trouble than its worth. The more people you kill until then, the more their relatives will want to fight back.

...

This is another reason why I hate auto-updates. Endless Legend has massive changes each expansion, but even if you turn off the dlc the underlying game has been rebalanced to work with it. You thought you could get resource screwed as the cult before? Wait until there's even less resources on land and there's fuck all cash from goody huts so you can't even explore without going bankrupt.

I've never managed to get AMMs to work.

Don't forget to turn on your actives too

It now occurs to me that maybe you didn't mean 'I don't know how to launch them'. What's your issue, user? Their design? Do you fire them and they don't seek? They never seem to hit?

Nah, that helps. I thought I'd done things right after following that one user's guide but now I realized I probably kept forgetting to set it to point defense.
I was sure I'd done so but my ships would keep launching their AMMs at enemy ships instead of missiles.

Just let the game die.

I swear I'll finish these one day.

never managed to play Aurora 4x beyond starting up the game, so complicated, its the Nicola Tesla game of our age, fit for geniuses with huge imaginations like you
I bet the stories from that game are as epic as Dwarf Fortress though, since it really is a simulation of another 'universe' per se albeit simplified

Hey anons. A couple of days ago I unearthed my old Force3Dpro (pic related) just in time for the Mechwarrior gamenight. Now that I have a proper joystick again I was thinking of playing some flight sims. Give me your best spess dogfight simulators. The only one I remember playing was TIE Fighter way back.

So when are we going to get a Space game that let's anons Remove Space Gommies together?

I'm flattered, but in reality I just have an autism hardon for realistic failure analysis, enough so that I forced myself to learn the game. It's really not that complicated once you understand the interface.

If you mean more arcadey "sims" similar to TIE Fighter, look at X Rebirth or Strike Suit Zero, although I haven't personally played either so I can't really vouch for them. Though, both of those are probably better off played with a mouse anyways. I honestly can't think of anything that fits the bill, sorry user.

...

pls gib source for that webm. i have a hard on for gigantic space ships and space politics

Jupiter Ascending.
It's pure shit from the tranny creators of the Matrix.

alright. thanks tho

don't, the game isn't that great. It's super floaty combat, limited weapon choice for main guns, bullshit checkpoint systems and the strike suit mode is just awkward to use

What if we could have Tribes + Vanquish + Space?

what was wrong with it?

I meant any sort of game where you pilot ships, but thanks for the recommends anyway.

Shit story about interstellar matriarchies and planets who only exist to supply the elites with youth serum harvested from the inhabitants of said planets, Earth being next.

user, this sounds like the plot to some hentai doujin or something.

Is there any explanation for why the chair has a woman as part of its front? You can't have that kind of thing and not at least give a general reasoning behind it. Hell, that is also pretty out of line for matriarchies.

ummmm did you watch the same anime that i did? because pretty much all the battles were yang wenli or that siscon soyboy and neither had much aversion to tactics t b h

The story revolve around a girl who firnds out she's a perfect genetic match for a long dead interstellar aristocrat apparently randomly reborn due to a limited number of possible genetic differences in people, or some such, no the movie doesn't really explain it being run through the intergalactic bureaucracy while the kids from her past life try to steal her inheritance the one her past self left herself, bee's instinctively recognise intersttellar aristocrats for no explained reason, they just do and the earth is being used by interstellar aristocrats as a breeding farm and when the population reaches a critical limit they will dissolve ever human on it to make some kind of eternal youth elixir.

TL:DR the plot is beyond retarded, but the movie looks pretty.

You make is sound almost Lovecraftian in the sense that humanity is pretty much some alien race's unprocessed crack. From what I've seen the movie really is quite mediocre though.

*you make it
I really should not post when I'm tired.

Need more settings where humanity is the Big Guy crushing vile xenos and not the underdog.

feel free to share some stories if you have any

for some reason they invested all their money in crafting a great world, that they forgot the story, shame though as the ship designs were pretty neat & unique

genetic engineering, pure humans are at the top of the foodchain, genetically engineered human creations (half elephant, half owl, sexy women with butterfly wings, half wolf etc…) and alien species they have conquered (like that draco & the greys) serve humanity

there aren't really many where humanity is on the top, can only think of warhammer 40k, maybe halo after the war, there was also this trailer of
endless space 2 youtu.be/HTbS8BEa1oI
and that new master of orion youtu.be/wKDx0cNwEjc and my favorite (old) trailer where xenos are collectively shitting their pants youtu.be/Zs_qG1vPY_s

do wish there were more though

Man that campaign was a let down. They really overhyped it and never delivered.

Not unless they seriously fucked up the lore since I started ignoring it.

You can roll back the game to an earlier version by right-clicking the game in your library -> going to properties -> beta tab -> selecting the version you want from the "select the beta you would like to opt into:" drop-down

...

...

No I don't and don't tell me about it. Chaos has infiltrated the Imperium and I choose to live loyal to the Emperor.
Thought for the Day; Ignorance is Bliss

But user don't you want to know how Cadia was destroyed or how Guilliman was revived and took control of the Imperium or how he made brand new and improved space marines that use completely new wargear or maybe even how Eye of Terror expanded and split the galaxy in half?

shut up
SHUT UP

You're a real dick, you know that?

I want to play Stellaris again, even though I know I will be disappointed. Again.
I have some kind of irrational hope that the next update will make it not-shit.

At least you have a bit of self-awareness :^)

paradox is doing a decent job at releasing updates to fix a lot of the game's design issues, but I can't shake the feeling that we've been playing a beta for the past year and a half
that being said I think there are mods to fix most of the more glaring problems and add some more interesting content

It sound almost like you guys don't want to know that Ynnead was prematurely born and that Biel-tan got destroyed or that The Emperor stopped giving a shit about humanity and that it's finally M42.

Tie fighter waifu is a cutie chunni.

Krieger-Chan waifu when?

...

Fucking budgetary constraints. Shitty fighters, shitty violently exploding closets. She's lucky she got away with just a scar.
No seriously what the fuck, how can the closet be so poorly made it causes something to slice your face? Was it shrapnel? Did the door come unhinged and smash her in the head? This is more interesting then the rest of the biography.

It was probably one of those side way opening doors that malfunctioned and closed on her when she put her head in. Also here are the rest of the biographies for the rest of the characters.

The music and sound effects are what make it superior. Unforunately, no one has edited the full version to include the ones from this version.

...

Are there any seriously good 40k games?

DoW1
DoW2
Space Marine is okay

tbh, LogH would be amazing in the Homeworld 1 engine.

Final Liberation and Chaos Gate are worth a look as well. No space games though unless you count Battlefleet Gothic. I've read mixed things about that game.

Something fell out of the closet when it was opened obviously.

Please no

Why is this game so comfy?
Its like I'm playing Ogame but actually good.

Considering getting ED despite possibly better judgement. It just looks so comfy at times. I imagine the bulk of the active playerbase has good ships now so will I just be eternally ganked?

Yes. What people do is fuck around in singleplayer until they get a decent ship and then get raped online. Do note that the game not only has multiplayer but is also a multipayer game to boot.

why

That sounds pretty gay. The more I look into this game the more disappointing it gets. Can you still have fun ruining the game for everyone or is everyone running high end combat ships rather than space trucking with cargo routes?
would you say the game is comfy at least?

the game went to shit due to the devs being retards basically and fucking with balance because forum lords made a huge stink about how their faction sucked. Plus matchmaking was awful

The campaign is alright, but there's no real consequences for losing worlds and the ships can be a pain in the ass to micromanage with their abilities

...

MY VENERABLE BATTLE-BROTHER

He didn't make them. That super-ancient techo-magus biologus did. And aren't they just regular space marines with 2 new organs?

Also, let's not pretend Guilliman was a Marty Stue in this one. He was actually very cool (and got beaten).

Because it has a great soundtrack and nice aesthetics. Just like Endless legend the gameplay is not the top of it's genre but most of the other things make up for it by making it such a comfy experience.

Magnificent music!

Who is ready for some good old space drama? i wish they could just stop fucking around and make VIDEOGAMES!

nigger, did you even played homeworld?
did you even fucking watched the LoGH cartoon?

Yes I played Home world 1, Emergence , and 2 I even talked about my first experience in the thread. Though to be fair I never finished any of them because some reason or another. 1 had a glitch that prevented me from moving past the second mission, Emergence had that bs stealth escort mission with the never ending fighters and I know for a fact because I saw it with my own two eyes it had friendly fire and collision because I witnessed fighters killing themselves whenever they tried to launch missiles and formations never worked right because they kept bumping into each other like bumper cars and then the game refused to even launch for me again. And with 2 I stopped playing after I couldn't take ove more ships when you reached the limit cap.

Yes I did, its a really good show in spite of Yang and his team's plot armor and Ishelhorn fortress was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Legend of the Galactic Heroes My Conquest is the Sea of Stars movie was really painful to watch with all that Yang wank

What some of bastardised copy of Homeworld 1 did you get? It wasn't the Remaster was it?

It was the re-release if I am correct.

I am so sorry for you user. Re-release version is known to be bugged beyond fucked

...

I'm actually sorta happy to hear that. I was getting Bittenfeild levels of salt and anger when I was playing that, I mean the missions went form fun to manageable to just straight down unfair. I thought everyone was memeing on me about that game.

Too be fair it's not my fault the games had glitches and the HW2 didn't let me capture more ships, Taking enemy equipment is one of my most favorite thing to do in games so when games try to stop me from doing that I lose interest.

Blame on another shitty imperial design, now whit furniture.

GET READY TO GET BULLIED!

In the (((Remaster))) they fuck around with a lot of things they shouldn't have with Homeworld 1. Such as movement code, difficulty scaling, hell they even took out online multiplayer! I have no idea what they did with the Cataclysm re-release but from my experience of trying out their attempts at the originals I doubt it will be pretty.
Remaking Homeworld 1 in the Homeworld 2 engine was the most retarded thing they could have ever done considering Homeworld 1 actually relies on proper movement and projectile physics while Homeworld 2 runs on RNG mechanics.

recommend me a good space game, like pic related or like Star Wars Rebellion.

Cataclysm was not remastered; the source code has been lost. It has been rebranded as "Emergence" due to Blizzard's trademark on the name "Cataclysm". As far as I am aware, the version on GOG is the original release.

Pirate the originals and try it again. I'm also fairly certain there's at least one mod that raises the unit limit or removes it for HW2.
That being said, learn to adapt your tactics. Yuge fleets in HW2 are gonna give you a bad time, the AI dynamically scales the number of enemy ships in each level based off of how many you have.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they've tinkered with somehow or fucked something they shouldn't have knowing (((Cuckbox)))

From GOG;

About: Homeworld: Emergence was originally released as "Homeworld: Cataclysm". "Cataclysm" is now a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., and the game has been renamed to avoid confusion. Other than the subtitle change, the game is identical to the game released in 2000.

That being said I can also try to find my copy and upload it somewhere.

That's really gay.

It was the knee-jerk response to HW1 being easy to cheese by stealing everything that wasn't nailed down (and some things that were).

Unfortunately this means that HW2 is equally easy to cheese by retiring your fleet at the end of each mission and rebuilding it at the start of the next one.

Also let's not beat around the bush, HW1>HWC>HW2>>>>>>>>>>Remastered.

Its too bad you can't steal and use the Junkyard dog. Imagine their faces when their heavy cruisers get hauled away by a single corvette

no lol, traders just stay in solo mode 24/7 which is retardedly still online only so it's just carebear mode without risk for the same reward.

The literal only thing going for ED is the atmosphere and aesthetic. Everything else is raw sewage.

its not THAT bad if you know what you are doing, it mostly goes down to engaging the enemy fleet slowly, and the only mission that really got "Difficult" was the one were you needed to kill a bunch of battlecruisers, but the hw community was bitching about the difficulty so they tone it down bunch of pussies

i was about to go full goy on gearbox, but that shit killed the deal for me.

It's been so long, was that mission 12? Assault the command station thing with Makaan and battlecruisers? Or the one right after that, Balcora Gate?

I've always enjoyed mixing three stealth generators (trust me on the math here) with 4 salvage corvettes. Stagger the gennies and you can stay cloaked forever, and congratulations, you done broke the game.

I actually thought it was ruined with respect to comfy. The UE intro was the most backhanded pozzed thing I had seen all year.

i dont remember, user.

The strange part about Homeworld was it seemed like the AI learned from what I was doing. I think it was on mission 4 when you encounter the Taiidan carrier. The first time I played it I stole it with the salvage corvettes without any issues. On a subsequent play through the carrier started attacking my salvage corvettes as soon as he saw them approach. Did you experience anything like that?

DELETE YOUR SAVES BEFORE ITS TO LATE, user!

It was always too late

Krieger-Chan a cute

So, the new stellaris dlc is in and it has added some new humanoid races, including cyclops and dwarves.
Also some new ship style alternatives for humanoids.

...

Like OMG! You are so unbelievable! Not all girls are women! like OMG i cant believe you right now!
How was my impression of a modern college girl?

Take your top off.

is that what being a fucking retard feels like?

Did they fix the combat?
Trick question. They never do.
What did they fuck up this time?

Not gonna buy the DLC till christmas as for gameplay, no idea yet, havent polayed after the update.

Why are you still buying Paradox shit? There's better. You're in a thread of better.

Krieger-chan is cuter, fight me

...

How much have Paradox fucked up the game with its retarded changes to the gameplay?

They're making extensive changes to combat in the upcoming 2.0 update archive.is/k2Hsn

So you can no longer jump into the system while enemy fleet is jumping to the system you were just in so you can blow up their troop carriers?
Awww shit.

Oh no.
Oh no no no.
They're trying to 'fix' doomstacks.
And the way they're doing it is terrible.
They have barely changed the level of tactics involved. It's still going to be doomstacks, just now you're going to have to segment them and click slightly different tactics on ships, assuming it doesn't boil down to 'Always run near/far, one ship size' like it has the last few times. Expect mandatory missiles on pretty much every ship since now you get a free slot for them and enemies do less damage when damaged, and forcing your opponent to build PD's to counter missiles means they aren't using moredakka.

This is good

This is bad. Really bad. It's only going to make fleet management and ship design tedious. I don't understand why they think "doomstacking" is a problem, it's just a natural way to engage an enemy. And it's not like you can't deal with it at all now unless you're badly outmatched. If anything they should make tech more important, as it is a force with better equipment gets BTFO by a larger force with worse equipment. But really they've sort of designed themselves into a corner, every choice they make is going to be shit unless they redesign the military side of the game from the ground up.

I understand your concerns about the changes they're making but frankly I'd rather they do this than leave the game the way it is. At the moment just pushing singular doomstacks around the map gets tiresome, and in the late game when your empire is huge it makes securing all your borders annoying as fuck.
I think these new systems will allow for a wider range of playstyles. Depending on the size of the bonus they decide to give to the underdog fleet, I could see people using a shitton of smaller, fast fleets to constantly harass larger fleets. Economically speaking it will become more effective to send in multiple third- or half-strength fleets to take advantage of the fire rate buff.
I also don't mind the changes they're making to some of the ship subsystems. Having to click over and over again to place just the right number of reactors was tiresome. Armor was this weird odd-man-out system that only worked well on certain ship classes. This dev diary also didn't mention the different types of planetary systems now - some of them have negative modifiers, e.g. making shields completely ineffective while ships are in the system.

This is going to make ship design less tedious. They're reducing the number of times you have to click to design your ship, and reintroducing different types of combat computers for different behaviors. Now you can adopt a particular strategy and design your ships accordingly,
They are: archive.is/WoFgk
I sort-of agree with this but I'm not sure how they would even approach a redesign

Civ's 4 taught me that a doomstack is not inherently bad so long as there is a well planned balance of counterplay between units, depth created through variety. Additionally in Civ's 4, because of the collateral damage effect of artillery units, attacker had preference, encouraging a game of positional combat, trying to get a good defensive point that the enemy wasn't bold enough to try and hit you while trying to edge in towards them to take their shit down. Running just a few of units away from your doomstack meant you could take a city, meaning they had to constantly be ready to defend.
No game has really captured doomstacks as well.

Just add logistics. There, problem solved.

Now a big doomfleet will have big issues if a smaller fleet cripples it's supply chain.

In addition, a small fleet of fast ship can disengage more easily and thus do quick hit-and-run attacks on the doomstack.

Why aren't armies around the wold using doomstacks?

China, North Korea, Russia and most of the Arab world do.

What do you call the Tet Offensive? What about the capture of Hue?

I wish this retarded meme would die already, along with the holocaust fantasy.

Seven untranslated nip games. The latest is a very shallow RTT, but the older ones look interesting.

Because Stellaris has a stupidly simple combat model that allows no variety in tactics and barely any options strategically. Armies around the world have to worry about logistics and terrain and generally need to cover a much wider area. Not to mention you can properly flank the enemy if you divide your forces. In Stellaris there is no such thing as supply lines, terrain is non-existant (although they are using hyperlanes only in 2.0 so that's sort of like having terrain), you only need to defend the space above planets (and moving from one system to the next is very easy) and flanking has no practical purpose. You can't even attempt a proper flank because fleets get locked into combat as soon as they enter within weapons range of one another, so you either slug it out or hit the retreat button.

What are some must have mod for X3:TC?

From the video they showcased, here some stuff I know they have yet to include in X after all these years:

There is unfortunately very little information on them in English. I found a torrent for #6, but it has no seeds.

Looks like the ships were directly inspired from Legend of The Galactic Heros.

I just want an excuse to post this

Uhhh…That's…It's literally the intro to a licensed Legend of the Galactic Heroes video game.

i literally can't stop laughing
congrats user

OH SHIT…that's what I get for not looking through the entire thread.

You will be forever bullied.

Excellent user.

It's alright, user, we're all going to be okay.

I dish it out twice as hard as I get it….so does that make me the worst bully?

I think I'll be ok too, user.

speaking of Legend of The Galatic Heroes, anyone bet the reboot version would be shit or not

All new things are shit.

It looks like shit. It's going to be shit. The only good thing is that they had the decency to give it a subtitle.

It's got bad CG, it'll be shit.

I just made the plot better

...

it depends, have you ever made a webm to bully an user?

wew

Come to think of it this is going to the the first post of the next Space Thread.

ayy

Life is suffering.

E:D is an awesome game, I just wish it had features you probably hate me for wishing for, like procedurally generated cities with people in them.

I couldn't agree more.

So i started a new stellaris game to see how things are going and here aresome highlights.

hello,

one fucking job

Why is the TYE-Wing your favorite starfighter?

I like the N-1. Reflects the Naboo philosophy of practicality and not sacrificing elegance.

Don't you mean the DIE Wing?

I don't remember Tarkin in the movie, but not only did Leah not look like shit, she was also in the movie for LITERALLY less than 5 seconds, so why would it matter even if she did look like shit?

...

Galactic Civilizations 2 is on sale on Steam for $5. Is it good? Does it still hold up? Do I require significant strategy game experience to enjoy it? Is it worth buying or should I just snag a copy from elsewhere? Is GalCiv 3 better or worse? Is GalCiv 1 also worth looking at?

GalCiv 2 is my favorite 4X, I would definitely say get it. I haven't played 3, but I heard it was pretty bad. I grew up on 1, but I don't think there's really any reason to play it when 2 exists.

That's the exact answer I was hoping for. I always get hung up on games with sequels, because i can't tell if they're different enough from each other to be worth playing or if the sequel is simply "X but better." I am trying to download a copy of the GOG version now. I'll give it a shot first; my experience with 4X games is minimal but I'm in a strong sci-fi mood and only own a toaster, so older space games are my ticket.

Do it. GalCiv 3 is finally in a good place, at least sorta, with the recent expansions, but it's still in flux, with more expansions possibly releasing further down the road, and also it's a bit underoptimized, so it might be too much for a toaster. GalCiv 2, on the other hand, is cheap, complete, and is honestly one of the best 4X games ever released. Wait until GC 3 is "complete" as a game, it'll be cheaper then, anyway.
