Honestly, it's the same game with some added features. I'm playing Ur now. They've received some nice tweaks but I'm not seeing how the changes warranted a whole new game with a $40 price tag. Soundtrack isn't as good. Alfonso's cantigas are replaced with the kind of dramatic orchestral music you find in most 4x games.

The changes to making the combat real time is well worth the price change, on top of the updates to the recruitment systems and the blessing system.

What would you do to make it better? As someone who plays it a lot I think it's visually appealing and functional. Any flaws it has are minor.

Mostly changes to the rules and more content. In Dominions 5 for example they completely reworked the recruitment and blessing systems. Where before you had a fixed bless according to your power in a sphere of magic (e.g. a fire god gfants to his followers extra attack at low levels and fire weapons at high levels) now you can customize if you want stuff like fire auras, fire resistance, or even combined blessings like solar weapons if you have both fire and astral.

Yes, it does. It completely changes the balance and tiers of a lot of different nations and how effective certain units and tactics are.

The problem with Dominions series is that all of its improvements per new title can be shoved into an expansion pack. The dev is milking his audience because they're already hooked on it. The guy is still using majority of his assets from the old iteration. I applaud him for being such a jew and getting rich off of people but I've already played one game of his and I ain't gonna be his whale.

Sacreds are better than before because there is more options.

Some sacreds are better now, and overall, the new blessing systems make the game more balanced. Before, a lot of nations had really broken op scareds that destroyed most units (White Centuars, MA Ermor Knights, LA Rag), so yeah, in general, shit got nerfed.

I'm waiting on a torrent to try it out and learn the systems which from what I've seen are pretty intricate.

Civ? Not really. Civ's babby tier compared to this. I think the closest mainstream analogue you can get to Dominions is Heroes, actually, except it isn't hex-based and has a far more complicated damage and magic system.


There's a set of instructions on the Llamaserver site itself, but essentially, you send in your pretender through email, in the game setup. Once the game starts, the server sends you the turn file (.trn), and you send your turn file (.2h) back.

I'd say it's closeish to Master of Magic

It's unfair to say that Civ is babby tier, it's not even in the same genre. Dominions doesn't have the (relatively) in depth city, research or culture management that Civ has. It really is closer to Heroes or a wargame than Civ

Yeah, with the large emphasis on magic and all. It really is its own beast though.

how to play Dominions for scrubs:
Step 1: pick a map - really just pick something that looks neat. there can be a huge variety between maps, but most of the time they function about the same

Step 2: pick an era - your choices are Early (lots of magic, low tech weapons, aka: bronze age tier stuff), Middle (slightly less magic, more advanced armor and weapons), or Late (least magic, best weapon and armor tech). if your starting out, i would suggest middle age, but really do whatever you want. just don't be surprised when you start a early age game and all your troops are spear chuckers in cloth.

Step 3: pick the number of players/ai in the game, and choose a nation - hovering over each nation will give you a some quick info on them. Nations vary wildly but the best thing to do is pick something that sounds FUKIN RAD M8. at least then if you're getting your shit slapped by all the other pretenders, you can take solace in knowing you actually liked your dudes.

Step 4: Create your PRETENDER GOD - So i probably should've mentioned this before, but the idea for the game is the big boss god is gone. and now all the little shitter gods are trying to take it's place as the boss. That's where you come in. Your nation choice and how you create your pretender is going to dictate how you play most of the game. i would argue this is the least newbie friendly part of the game, and i'm not really the best choice for advice here (also i don't have dom5 yet, so some of this may be incorrect). At any rate, here is some basic info:
- design points are similar to a army list system in table top war games if you are familiar to them. if not, think of it as god bux. as a general rule: everything costs design points. from various physical forms to altering your magic paths.
- select physical form: this is how you change what kind of being your pretender god is. some are better at fighting, some are better at spellcasting, and some can't move at all (things like statues). you can right click on the different choices when you click the "select physical form" menu to see that forms stats. generally for every unit in the game (with the exception of cost, encumbrance, and fatigue), higher numbers are better. each physical form will have different mage levels (the level of spellcasting they can do in that spell tree), research ability (the amount of spell research they can contribute to each turn), and any number of other abilities they may have. i hate to say it, but it's probably just a good idea to consult the manual to learn what these abilities may do if you really need to know. otherwise i'd just pick something that looks neat and worry about it later.
- magic paths: this is where my lack of knowledge of dom5 will come in. as i believe this has changed quite a bit. anyway in dom4, you can raise your pretender gods spellcasting levels in any of the 8 different spell paths. though putting points into paths the form you chose didn't already have costs extra. These points will also give you different bless effects (buffs your priests can cast onto sacred units), bless effects change and get better with higher levels in specific spell paths.
- dominion: these are effects that your god will spread across the land as it's influence (dominion) grows. you can spend god points to raise them, or lower them to give yourself a bit of a weakness to gain godbux that you can spend in other places. generally you want high resources and income in provinces you control so you can recruit more troops. not all nations have the same needs though, and the few exceptions (like MA Ermor) are pretty rare. so really just do whatever looks good to you.
- imprisonment: how early your pretender god will be active, and gives you extra godbux if you don't mind him being sleepy for a while.

Step 5: actually playing the damn game - so you made your dream team of zealous birdmen lead by a giant sexy naked bird/woman god. now you go out and destroy everything in your path. there really isn't any diplomacy other than what you and other players can make. how you win the game depends on your game settings. but default i believe is by controlling thrones of creation. of course you can always just kill all the other pretender gods and remove any trace of their dominion from the land.

i can go into more, or other folks can shit on this block of text and call out my mistakes. whatever happens happens newfriend.

There is the is a blitz mode, server hostin, once everyone has done their turn, server compiles the turns, and then it moves to the next turn, etc. I prefer email games because you can take your time to plan shit during the 24/48 hours in between turns and you can do your turn whenever you feel like, it's comfier, but that comes down to personal preferences.

Biggest issue is that if you stall, it's gonna unbalance the game, since you nation will basically be sitting there doing nothing, which is going to profit people around you and is gonna help the ones that can grab your land versus those who can't. If you go AI (an ai takes over) it's shit because AIs are no fun, you don't get into multiplayer to play against retarded annoying AIs. Or you can just do everything you can do lose as soon as you can, which is also cunty.

So yeah, email games definitely are a commitment for multiple an extended period of time, and the fun of everyone is dependent on you not being a cunt. It's okay to stall sometimes, it's okay to ask for a short delay if you can't make it, but just like you should expect other people to respect the game, you should too.

The game updated a couple of times to fix some crash and stat bugs, so it might be version difference issues.

Clicking on a units Strength score while on a fort will show it's Siege damage and Siege defense.

Really, anything with more than one attack and/or high defense was a prime candidate for a bless in Dom 4. Vanheres, WOTFE, equites of the Shroud, white centaurs, you name it. I expect that to be the case still in Dom 5 but hopefully to a lesser extent.

A new meta, new combat resolution, different balance, more nations, better maps, better random map generation, new victory conditions, better moddings, less focus on SC, etc etc.


You still cannot control combat directly. You must set up your armies beforehand, the game is focused on strategy, not tactics. If you want to control your units in combat, you want a different 4x game or something like an RTS or RTT.

I don't know if it's their fault or Shrapnel Games, their Games Workshop-tier publisher, but they really don't have an excuse after the first iteration since they only make relatively minor changes to the rules, are clearly still using the same shitty engine and haven't even fucking contracted any new music tracks, as good as the existing ones are. Fortunately they reduce in price quickly. I guess the kikey devs convince themselves that it's just like releasing new editions of a wargaming rulebook and that their pricing scheme is therefore totally justified.

It's similar but definitely it's own thing, strategies that took advantage of how turns played out (defender goes first as an example) no longer work and balanced army composition is a lot more necessary than before.

Here's the deal. I have made several games in the past, before I realized in college that pursuing a career in game dev as a programmer is like choosing to work at McDonald's after going to a French culinary school. Two of those projects I worked on with 10 other people, including artists, sound engineers and a producer. The fact of the matter is I could have made the art assets for this game in Paint because I have made similar art. And those "major rule changes" you're talking about can be done by the programmer alone in a very reasonable time frame. It takes some code changes and some testing, that's it – relatively low effort when you consider that the engine is still the same. The effort does not match the price tag. To me this is like buying the new edition of D&D at a full price tag of $50 and getting a black and white PDF with no art. If you are going to rip me off, you could at least pretend that the money is going somewhere towards improving the game. Now will you please bow out of the thread gracefully instead of spamming your avatar folder?

magic level/variety also determines priest spells, one AoE damage vs undead and one smite with a chance of OHKO, with damage type/effects varying with magic type; blood is unique in that it only gets the smite, not the anti-undead move

For example, if your enemy is using devils (which fly and radiate a strong heat that burns units) you might try to cast rain in order to reduce their heat and have priests on hand in order to banish the devils as well as regular troops in order to stall their advance.
Or you might counter with fire resistant units. Or use devils yourself.

You might teach an undead hero some earth magic so he can cast ironskin. Give him some items and now you have a tough to kill, tireless warrior that can take provinces all by himself.

You might cast a storm if your enemy is using lots of archers so that their aim suffers and the wind bats their arrows of course.

There's a LOT of units and spells. You just have to figure out how to use them effectively.

There are a LOT of possible tactics available. One I remember seeing is the concept of the "Doomstone" where you pick the obelisk as your pretender type, load it up with spells and teleport it directly onto the enemy forces. The obelisk takes a good effort to kill and wipes troops if they're not prepared to deal with a teleporting magic rock.

This only works defensively as teleporting requires a lab in the province, but it is still an incredibly powerful defensive tactic as the Monolith is impossible to kill without niche specialization, or preaching it to death.

Inanimate pretenders can't use Wind Ride/Cloud Trapeeze to move in provinces so teleportation is the only way

Not sure what is going on in my game but suddenly I don't get summaries after battles.
I have spent over an hour looking through menus and trying to find an answer to why the game is doing this and how I can turn that shit off since its really annoying not to have any idea which heroes survived battles and who killed how many enemies.

But late era Rlyeh does crossbreeding constantly and for fun (just not the blood magic version) and that's pretty dope. Plus they're the best anyway.

You want a nation that's good at blood magic and one that can afford to up it's luck scale.

Just looked some stuff up again. You need to research Blood magic lvl3 in order to start breeding.
In order to start the ritual you need lvl 1 blood and nature magic on the particular mage. It cost 15 slaves.
The Luck scale does affect the outcome.
There's a unique artifact you can get which gives someone +20 cross-breeder.

Now from my own experience i can tell you that you are going to get mostly trash even if you build it optimally. It's only in really end-game where you can start thinking about replacing armies with succesful cross-bred units.

Mod your own nation, it's really easy. Hardest part is making sprites and the balancing.

Cross breeding's real effectiveness comes from generating a bunch of chaff units to help defend your mages which are expected to do most of the work.

Like in a siege, though in Abyssia's case they have some really good crossbreeds now that can doll out the harshness

You're thinking gateway, which takes the caster's army with them, and even that has a high-level version which ignores the lab destination req and can be gotten through an artifact.
Teleport itself is a fairly low-research spell that only takes 2 pearls and an S3 caster to bamf around a giant fucking rock, if your giant fucking rock can take on the target by itself.

am I missing something on the specific usefulness of dudes? I know net rushes with the slaves are okay but they rarely actually kill anything. the trampling thralls are too expensive for anything short of full positive scale, lobos still just get slaughtered en masse. Meteorite guards are too expensive but actually decent but shite compared to the basic chaff of other nations in most cases, and EA doesn't even have that.

I mean if you run weird blesses in EA gibodai sacreds are aight but you can't recruit enough of them and chaff at the same time early game to safely expand against other people who know wtf they're doing. I feel like the leap between D5 and D4 has done something I don't understand that has fundamentally changed the strat for the slowest UW nation in a weird way. Every mythology ripped into a single game about slaughtering those who do not bow down to the true pantokrator. This is done by various means depending on your civilization, could mean giant armies, casting world ending spells, or just making sure people believe in no other gods than you.

You can think of it as a 4X game (like Civ) if you remove the diplomacy and progression. But it's got a crazy amount of depth and strategic choices, insane amounts of spells, and more magic items then you'll ever need. Everything in the game is also split up into three Era's but you don't move from one to the other as the game progresses. If you start a early era game, you will be in early era for the entirety of that game.

Conquest of Elysium is pretty fun too and generally easier to grasp the first go around

Just won my first MP game with a few friends last night as Nazca; first with dom5 anyways. I used an exploding burd strategy with death explosions from fire, charged bodies from air, and fire/lighting resistance from earth. Worked remarkably well and backed it up with flaming arrow spam.

Expansion is going to be a problem early on, you can either take the statue of war which auto recruits Barbarians which are OK for expanding with, or you can take a monster to expand with.

You'll definitely want to get end of culture asap so your Oni recruitment is up, as far as expanding goes Ko-Oni lead by the demon commander and hordes of Bakemono archers usually does the trick. Getting flame arrows is also essential, because you'll want to use your cheap massable bakemono archers a lot, including after you have a decent amount of temples generating oni for you.

They're cheap and easy to make if you have an excess of Death gems (which is pretty easy to have) in a blitz I was playing recently I used them with Yomi since I was already spamming archers for flaming arrows and what not.

How does one rainbow properly?

Yeah those dai oni are pretty much the best recruitable thug chassis in the game and it's hard to argue otherwise. Their stats are fantastic, they have full slots, and they have perfect magic paths for phoenix pyre, summon earthpower for reinvigoration, and soul vortex which sends them into practically SC territory. Even when something finally manages to take him out, the crazy motherfucker comes back from the dead just to fuck shit up a second time. The only problem they have is their massive price tag; they cost nearly as much as a fort apiece.

First things first, set your scales to turmoil 3 luck 3; the turmoil makes your oni stronger, the luck helps cover for the fact that between the reduced patrol effectiveness and your freespawn oni raising unrest you won't get much tax income.
You may also want some good bless effects since your oni commanders are sacreds, but avoid going for a dom3 bless rush-tier bless, since you have zero other recruitable sacreds; affliction protection and reinvigoration from earth blesses are best, since they keep your oni commanders from becoming helpless in combat due to fatigue or afflictions
For your expansion phase, you want to rush thaumaturgy 1 for frighten spam on your demon generals; those guys are your best shepherds for freespawn oni, and having something for them to do is better than not.
Other important landmarks are alteration 4 and conjuration 3 so your dai oni can cast earthpower>ironskin>temper flesh, which is a fuckawesome buff cycle.
Construction levels are important for kitting them out, and at 4 you can make dragon scale mails, which are the best mix of low encumbrance and high prot you can get. There's also other good shit, but dragon scales are the main attraction.

I'll add to this. You don't actually need to forge armor for Dai Oni right away or at all since they have heavy samurai armor all they need is a weapon,shield,helmet to be effective. It's just a waste of gems until you can make something better. You should also focus on getting enchantment 5 and horde of skeletons as well as an additional lab in a forest as currently outside of your main fort you'll be stuck at 1cp a turn for your mages and the cheapest alternative are turning your witches into the 1st tier hannyas. You'll need skeleton spam to survive and also to help take a neighbor's fort

The 4 encumbrance from the heavy samurai armor is an absolute bitch though, and oni already get plenty of durability from their buff cycle; ditching 3 encumbrance is well worth the forgone armor prot, especially if you can stack enough reinvig on them to keep them going through the entire battle.

Also, red dragon scale only needs 2F and 10 fire gems, and it's not like there's that many uses for fire gems.

For me I'd always go for the Fire Jars on Hannya's so they could spam fire elementals or something to that effect, however since Hannyas are so much more expensive now I don't feel like doing that too much.

There are some other nice weapons there now with Fire gems, there is a con 2 mace now that is basically a weaker fire brand; also having things like Fire Drakes around when all but 2 types of oni are resistant to fire helps carve holes in the enemy army which your Oni will fill in.

However generally speaking, I feel the new Yomi is worse off than before because of the new rules on how recruitment works and their lack of an ability to get 2 commander points a turn, even Pangea can summon forts in a forest to recruit mages at a normal rate like before, as far as I know Yomi is the only nation that is penalized this way and it definitely hurts them; Oni not costing upkeep is nice and I don't mind the freespawn mechanic (EA needs more free spawn nations) but it would be better off if they got the oni summoning spells later japanese nations get, also the Hannya is generally not worth it for the full 18 gem cost as they still cost upkeep on top of that, even if their paths are boosted from dom4 (1 more D). The Chia whatever witch form is Ok to get on the defense with guaranteed skeleton spammers and as far as I would go except for the 1 Hannya I need to follow my armies around and cast flaming arrows (until I get a combat caster Dai Oni to do so)

They both grant the "air shield" buff so they work identically; the only difference between them is Arrow Fend is battlefield-wide.
As far as I know, air shield protects against friendly projectiles as well, including certain projectile based spells, but I could be mistaken.

A good start for dom 5.

Dominion 3 are Titan-types
Dominion 2 are Beast-types
Dominion 1 are Sorceror-types

Fuck around a bit in t he late ages to get the hang of basic shit like troops and land grabbing. Pick a combat pretender like a dragon or serpent so you dont have to worry too much about magic. A lot of the magic in this game you pretty much HAVE to know about before hand so steer clear until you're ready to look that shit up. Note about those blessing bonuses you see in creation, they only apply to sacred units marked by menorahs on their stat sheets.

Yomi gets one, a sacred oni freespawn covered head to toe in armour, too bad they spawn so rarely because they're the best free troops you could get.

A few new gods for the celt nations, the Morgana has an interesting gimmick because you get 3 of them with the paths split between them. The caveat is that you don't get autobless with them in a fight at least that I've seen and the titans lose paths if they aren't together.

Concerning the Hannayas, the Namari can cast a ritual spell to partially transform themselves into Hannya for 6 gems, gaining 1D, i think. Then they can cast another one to fully transform into a Hannya for 12 gaining another 1D.
So now you pay the Namanari recruit costs and 18 gems on top of waiting 3 turns for a slightly better Hannaya.

Don't forget to download the map and the mods too.

I think it's a bit too much of a nerf too. The chances too the recruiting system kinda dealt with them already.
They can cast some more interesting magic now atleast.
Yomi has some new strats they can try now too. I've been trying to make freespawn better and more numerous and it's proving to be a bit tough. I did mess up on pretender creation and didn't really mess with the scales too much. I also fel that Yomi lacks a decent commander to make freespawn work better.

So I'll answer your questions on Blood Magic, and EA Pangay.

First lets cover Blood Magic; since there is more than one nation that utilizes it. Ok so first of all Blood magic is extremely powerful, but costly the reasons for it's power is because all of it's spells are contained to it's own school which includes attack/summons/globals meaning research is never wasted.

The importance of this becomes more obvious the more blood magic you have researched, up to the point you have people casting Leech which has been nerfed in dom5 slightly because of cast times but who fucking cares it's such a powerful spell because it hits 1 SQUARE for 25+ Unresistable damage for B1. The next important thing that makes blood so powerful are the summons, which are also again nerfed slightly for a couple reasons; it used to be in Dom 4 for certain types of demons and devils you could recruit multiple at a time per casting, but now all of them are 1 at a time per casting; again small nerf, but the actual summons themselves are so good that you'll want to dedicate a couple of mages each turn to summoning them. The third thing about blood magic is you need to manually gather your reagents (in this case virgins), which requires some investment but the returns are so high it doesn't matter you can get more blood slaves than gems in a short period of time that their value is cashed in immediately instead of fussing around with alchemy, or site searching.

Learning how to hunt blood slaves effectively is where most people fail but there are event specific commands to make it easier which are shift z and shift v. You'll want to hunt on provinces with high pop (above 5000) you'll need about 5-6 max b1 (or lets say 10-12 levels of blood magic combined per province without unrest getting too high) and a small army of patrollers to keep the unrest down, and any order scales you can spare as well as province defense to help keep unrest down. the next thing you'll need is scouts, and since commander points are a thing now it's ridiculously easy to afford them, so you can pool your slaves on them run them to the nearest lab and back, If you have some extra gold it can be worth it to buy a lab where your blood hunters are working but for the most part you'll want to save it for more mages and troops; because if you're a blood nation someone will take notice and anyone with a brain is going to want to punch you in the face before you get too strong.

You'll also want a minimum of Construction 4 to afford blood hunting sticks, these increase blood hunting as if your blood mages were 1 level higher than they actually were, don't skimp out it's only 5bitches each and you'll get your investment back immediately.

As for EA (and MA) Pangea they are widely regarded and feared for their ability to rush down nations because of their sacred unit, In Dom4 this was accomplished with an n9 w9 bless which gave them +4 Defense, Quickness, +4 HP, and Regeneration; they are still just as deadly and I would say they're actually even more deadly in Dom5 which I'll elaborate on.

But first lets talk about the nerfs to EA/MA Pan, first off all of your forts outside of forests are extremely expensive and you're still limited to making palisades. What this means to you is that your mages (dryads/centaurs) will take 2 turns to come and your big guys (Pans) will take 4, Obviously you don't need that but it doesn't fucking matter because all you need to do is build a lab in a forest and you can summon a proper fort which does have a high cost of 30n gems but trust me you'll be rolling in the N because Pangea always wants to get alt 5 and get Mother Oak up, + if you're smart you'll wait till someone else builds up a fort and take it.
which by the way scouts can now see if someone is building a fort in a province they're hiding in and guess who has flying scouts, yeah it's you pan

The other nerfs to Pangea include half points for taking turmoil scales, which honestly isn't that big of a deal it just means you have to dump something else to get more scales for bless, it still scales well with the Pans free spawn maenads which are good chaff; though in Dom4 Order Pangea was still a thing and powerful in it's own right.

Alright so if you've followed me so far I'll get into what gives Pangea and even better edge than before, and that is the new movement rules. Not only can White centaur (and other centaur/calvary in general mind you) move faster across the field and out flank and kill the enemies commanders, they can also move faster into enemy lands capture provinces and do guerilla tactics much easier.

This should be a worry for anyone fighting against Pan, because most of their units are stealthy; but deep strikes are extremely effective because of how the new retreat rules work; essentially you can cut off someone from behind with small groups of 3-4 guys, force them into confrontation with your larger army and again out flank them and blast them with fear spells so they rout and auto die from having no where to flee too.

or you can just brutalize them; as far as blood goes for EA pan though, you probably wont worry about it too much it's a better investment of your time and gems to get Alteration magic and Enchantment to buff your already strong guys further with spells like Regeneration, Iron Warriors, Mass Protection, and support spells like Swarm and Howl. Again another buff to Pan is at construction 4 you can make the Cornucopia for 15 gems and it will give you 2 nature gems EVERY BATTLE so you'll never not have gems for your battle buffs and support spells and that means your gems can be used for other things like building more forts, summoning Vine Ogres to help beef up your forces, or whatever.

Also there is a new spell at Thaumaturgy 6 which does not require a gem to cast but needs n5, it's a mass sleep spell the new sleep mechanic is easy for Pan to take advantage of which just makes an already strong army, stronger (also you can get Charm at Thaum 7, and Beckoning, and lots of other good N spells)

As for blesses Pic related is from an awake W10, (Quickness) B4 (Blood Surge) Blood fountain. I'd recommend trying it out to see how you like it, and then combining it with other things only Quickness requires Incarnate (god has to be on the map) so you could go dormant with Blood Surge if you wanted to add more, but I'd advise against Imprisoned, unless you just want to go for pure stat boosts on your WC which actually isn't a bad idea.

On this part I'll break down Pangeas tactics and units more for you.
also I just double checked and I was wrong about turmoil scales being half points, I thought I had read that in the beta forum, but doing so still gives me 40 points each time

One of Pangeas main traits is that most of your units are undisciplined which leads to less morale on your leaders, but that doesn't reduce their effectiveness exactly it just means you have to cover your weakness. A good spell that is an easy cast for any Pan is Awaken Sleeper this spell require N4 Conjuration 5 and 10 Nature gems. The Sleeper is a very good commander with high Inspiration and high leadership values so he can lead many units at once.

You will also find that if you take turmoil scales your recruitment points are low, which is something you should be wary of when building your pretender. Recruitment points get a bonus from order scales, and a penalty in turmoil; however they're also based off population so taking growth may be a wise choice, Money isn't going to be the issue anymore because usually you'll take max luck to compliment your turmoil scales (by the way luck is nerfed too slightly instead of 90% good events it's closer to 70-80% just getting that out there for anyone who doesn't know) One of your better units the Reveler requires a decent amount of recruitment points, this guy can go berserk and has 2 attacks. he's the best of the Satyrs and will also cause unrest. Dumping some points into Sloth works out to your advantage as well as most of your units require very little resources outside of your sacreds and the armored variants of centaurs/minotaurs.

Ok as far as spells go something you'll want to try and take advantage of is Iron Bane, which is a spell that makes your enemies armor fall off leaving them easier to kill, another good offensive spell for you will be Maws of the Earth, which hits in a large AOE and earth grips all those who survive the damage. in both cases you'll need to boost a Pan's Earth magic to 3, sometimes you can get E2 pans and make them earth boots or you can simply just use Earth power ahead of time for an in combat boost. Early on if you need more chaff you can also summon animals which is a terrain based spell, and works out to your advantage as your Pans which should be the one casting it have animal leadership; you can also use unique spells on your animals that will make them go berserk and therefore fearless and fight to the death.

I'll also cover assassination and seduction since I forgot to mention that. Your Dryads are stealthy and can seduce, they also have good defenses and are sacred, but you should always be aiming to kill not seduce, this is really easy for dryads because of how swarm works. Swarm will summon 20+ bugs depending on your N magic for 1 n gem in 125% casting time, so in a round and 1/4 she will cast the spell during an assassination as long as she has N gems or the cornucopia I already mentioned, if she fails seduction that is. Using Dryads this way is them at their most effective as you already have centaur leaders that are sacred to buff your White centaurs for deep strikes and would move faster anyway. The Dryads have awe which means they'd be harder to kill, giving her a weapon is not entirely necessary, since you're probably already pursuing heavy alteration magic they should also have frozen heart which only requires w1 to cast so baring some misfortune they should always eliminate their targets, maybe give them some vine seeds so they have vine men bodyguards.

The last thing I'll talk about is Transformation and Gift of Health and their importance to Pangea (and Nature nations in general, remember it!)

The question is "why should I transform my mage" well the main reason you want to transform them is so they stop costing you upkeep, Transformation is a risky maneuver but high luck scales will usually ensure their survival, and that they don't get feeble minded in the case of the latter you'll want gift of health up to heal afflictions if possible (it should be because you want Mother Oak first which gives you extra N each turn) Transformation can also give you extra magical paths, in stuff you might be unable to get. Just remember as well that Transformation will also disable the use of a lot of item slots, so try not to transform Pans that you want to specialize in blood or earth too often. (if they have E2 already it's probably Ok; but never for blood)

Been playing the pirated copy and the game is amazing, but I'm kinda iffy about the multiplayer as my experiences in most
RTS games for me usually have supreme autists that suck all of the resources on the map in minutes and spawn in strong units rapidly. Does it have unfun shit like that?

I lack the autism to properly play the game but from what I can understand in multiplayer you're basically just supposed to minmax expansion and say fuck all to building tall, so probably yes.

Resources grow as the game progresses, more population, more magic gems, more research points. Unless you have a popkill neighbor.

This user is wrong past the first year, only then is it all about going wide and placing down the first couple of forts. Forts can be upgraded and admin gives you lots of tax money/production if placed properly. Forts, labs, enchants, sites, magical research and temples are a huge deal. A single territory can make or break the game for you, one territory can be worth a thousand gold with amazing sites while others only a dozen gold with no magic sites.
Some nations don't even care about gold and use summons/sacreds/thugs for everything.

Depends what you want from them. The more areas connected to a fort, the more gold they'll be worth. When I place my first two forts, I make one an economic choice and other a defensive one.

High population areas give you more gold and you'll want to defend them from pillagers and to safely cast rituals/crafting.
Magic sites and thrones, especially ones that produce magic users or gold mines are good places for forts.
Mountainous areas with decent populations(7k+~) can produce a lot of high production units.
Bottlenecks are obvious enough, but remember your enemy can turn those into forward bases so you might not want to fully upgrade them.

Mages, spells, buffs, troop scripting, experiment. The ai cheats, spamms so much shit units, let itself be encircled like retards, swarms provinces with shit troops. Basically it doesn't play like a human bean and you will not really learn much beyond how to expand properly by playing against it. You shouldn't have an issue against only one normal AI though.

well, you need to place them at natural chokepoints, like mountain passes or shores, provinces which when lost would fuck you over, and provinces which you need to hold for expansion
they shouldnt be idealy placed close to each other because they are taking resources from neighbouring provinces, so if you spam them in every province you will be able to recruit less troops in each castle.

There always has been. You're supposed to customize the amount of thrones/other 'I win' points for the number of players. Thrones are the least bullshit IMO. Not arduous like 100% annihilating every other player, not lame like everyone pursuing dom power/research, and someone who can say fuck you and just raid all of your unprotected provinces immediately (like Xibalba) can cheese province goal.
Thrones at least require people to clear strong indies, get a pretender/prophet/lv3 priest to it and hold onto it. The RNG effects and making random geographical locations critical are interesting. With a proper thrones-to-win requirement, it's usually the fairest way to go about things.

I've been playing for a few days, and I feel like there's something major missing:
There needs to be a way for you to influence the paths mages and sacred units recruit with beyond the predefined ones. What I mean is, if your pretender god has a really high investment in blood path, maybe there could be a high-point-cost bless effect that could make every priest spawn with power in blood. This could allow for players to put "twists" on certain empires and change their focus - for example I could have R'lyeh but the mages can also crossbreed or whatever

obviously you could just empower but alchemy is expensive as fuck

How do you get more commander points in a province?

First player here, D5. It took me 30 min to learn how to assign troops to a commander. Were do I learn to play?

Was trying to click on the bar to their side. Click unit in bar to select, click unit in commanders bar to drop.

That's the Dom5 version of slow-to-recruit. You can still recruit them, it will just more than one turn to fill the commander point cost.

It works just like the resource cost and I believe recruitment points work the same way. The unit/commander will just stay as "in progress," accumulating points until the point quota and any other resource quota has been met.

I didn't know this game series even existed but thanks to you faggots I am now hooked. I reckon it'll end up as one of my favorites, but it's certainly flawed when it comes to its presentation. The graphics are easy to critizise, but I think the battles would leave a much better impression if the units had walk animations and moved from square to square instead of warping around. Is this something that the creators have in mind and is it even feasible to begin with?
