The game was originally pitched as Galian Panzers and was originally aimed to come out near the end of the PS2's life span with PC and PS3 releases later down the line. Also it was originally meant to be more WWII styled but went for a WWI/WWII mix for the rustic comfy factor. The Darcsen were originally supposed to be a race of rabbit eared shorties. There isn't much known about this iteration, other than some pics in the artbook.

I wonder how the Revolution game would have turned out if fans didn't want them to change the gameplay. We could have had a decent action RPG with a good story. Instead we got a terrible action RPG/Strategy hybrid with a good story. What I don't get is how everyone was so upset that it's wasn't like the rest of the series when it was clearly a spin-off.

I don't think the sequels do but I don't really know. I played VC2 but it was a forgettable garbage fire anyway, which you should skip, and I don't see any blatant faggotry in VC3's art. VC3 never came stateside outside of a translation patch.

At least Revolution wasn't as bad as Metroid Federation Force. But unlike VC, Metroid didn't get a good game for ages.

I have played both VC1 and VC3, 3 was a lot better in terms of game-play but a lot worse in terms of graphics. If I had to rate them it would go like this

Story: VC3 has a decent story that miles better than VC2 (I couldn't bring myself to finish 2 so I don't count myself having played it) but not as good as VC1. The writers realized they went way too anime boilerplate with 2 in so they toned it back to just a bit more than VC1 levels and worked out OK. The best ending in 3 involves the MC getting with 2 girls, so that's nice.

Game-play: VC3 is miles ahead VC1, the three main characters all have unique special abilities that make them play very differently on the battlefield though the remainder of the cast is fairly interchangeable, things like multiple take-downs or being able to use Valkyria powers on command really spices up game-play. Mission objective variety is much higher and has more conditions, for example the capture enemy base objective now requires that you capture and hold multiple posts at the same time with the bases located all over the map and if you capture just one the enemy can be rather aggressive in trying to get back.

Balancing: HOLY FUCKING SHIT is it awful. In VC1 you could just rush the enemy with Alcia and that would be enough but thankfully that's not possible in VC3, however… the enemies in VC3 are ridiculously OP, you could be more than 5 levels above the enemy and have all the best equipment available at the moment and it would still take more than ¾ of a magazine of head-shots from a shocktrooper to drop an enemy while it only takes 2 to 5 body shots from the enemy to kill one of your characters. Just to test this I had scouts empty their magazines with all head shots in to the enemy and it took about 6 to 8 headshots to drop an enemy, standard scout rifle has 5 shots and the enemy always counterattacks, you do the math on what happens. The enemy weapons are essential to getting through the game, the problem is that you can only get one from each mission and you can’t replay missions until the story is complete so if you miss it you are going to have a really hard time. I will be honest, there were a few times I had to save scum in order to complete a mission, the odds are just too much against you.

Graphics: VC1 so far ahead of VC3 it’s not even funny, the PSP games don’t use the Canvas engine so while the art style is the same the execution is a lot different, the lower poly models aren’t even the problem so much as the fact that the watercolor painting effect that was in VC1 is absent and what remains is a poor imitation that doesn’t look nearly as nice. Another big problem is asset reuse, there really wasn’t too much of it in VC1 but a lot of it in VC3… and I mean a lot. You will find yourself on the same battlefield for main story missions more than once and the side missions are so copy paste that it will get old real fast. Most of the story in VC3 is also told through text with portraits of the characters talking, there are cut-scenes but they are all 2D animated.

DLC: All the DLC in VC1 was very well made and entirely optional, there was nothing that was stripped out of the main story, it was additional worthwhile content, and there was not too much of it so if you didn’t get it was not big deal as well as the fact that it was included in the PC release (I have both the PC and PS3 versions). In VC3 that's not the case, there are very significant amounts of character development in DLC as well as all the best weapons and characters. After I finished the main game (I played the translation patch) I looked what was in the DLC and was disgusted, not only is there a lot of content behind DLC but thee DLC weapons have stats that the main game should have had. Essentially what happened is the the DLC is what was needed to have better balancing in the game making the main game unnecessarily hard without it.

Verdict: I would still recommend VC3 but only if you can get it for free, play it on the PPSSPP emulator and you will have a good time. VC3 fixes a lot of the problems with both VC1 and 2 but the balancing is worse though in the favor of the AI rather than the player. I would rate VC3 below VC1 but only by a very slim margin since the ability to have Alcia just run to the enemy base ruined a lot of the fun. On a side note if you play the unpatched PC release of VC1 the enemy machine guns do a lot more damage due to a glitch so scout rushing is a lot harder, it’s the way I play it’s a lot more fun

Also, I Just wanted to mention that the VC3 translation patch is incomplete, only the main story is fully translated and a lot of the side stuff is still in moonrunes. I wanted to finish translating it sop I reached out to the head of the translation effort more than a year ago on reddit and he promised to give me the program he used to decompile the text and assets for the game but he never got back to me and after the second attempt to reach him I just gave up since school started back up again and he clearly wasn’t going to give it to me, so if anyone here knows how to decompile and reassemble PSP games feel free to speak up since I would still like to finish translating it and maybe fix some of the balancing issues.

Canonically, Riela, Selvaria and Alicia are the only valkyrias in 3.
You can get Aliasse and a special girl as extra.

Also, judging by the dev screens you'll probably be able to use your own valkyria when she awakens because there are SP points on the screen.
You could do this in 3, so I'm guessing they decided to keep that system.

The first game didn't have a lot of actual fantastic action.
It was two missions against Selvaria during which you didn't even fight her directly and one where Alicia is roaming around for a turn or two.
Also a few cutscenes, but the fantastic elements were actually very few. It's just that those scenes made a very strong impression since they clash against everything else that you've seen so far.

2 and 3 have super soldiers like the V2 troops and giant gatling guys, not to mention the entirety of Calamity Raven soldiers who are significantly stronger than your average Empire men.
There are also fencers and techs in those games. Whether you think they fit in or not is a matter of taste, but they are an unusual sight.

VC1 had nothing like that, so I'm guessing that's what he meant.

Consoles are proprietary hardware that run proprietary software, in other words once the lifespan the console is up all support for it dies, no one outside the company that has the source code can port any of the games, the best we can do is create emulators and that takes a lot of time, skill, and is never as efficient or accurate as running the games natively… which can't even be done in some cases because the console is out of production and there are a limited amount of them left.

The idea of wanting something to be remastered from old proprietary hardware to new proprietary hardware is one the gayest things imaginable, it's like reanimating a corpse so it can fuck you in the ass one more time before it one again dies leaving you sad and alone.

The vid I showed was when the gameplay was first shown. With some tweaking (like actually making enemies flinch from certain attacks) it might have been something decent. What it changed to was a mix between what the series had been and what they were trying to go for. It ended up being a horrible mess that looked worse than the gameplay first presented.

I plan to make an XP or 98 machine, because we already lost hardware audio. Unless there's a source code based fix (Thief) the intended audio is completely lost for old games. I haven't attempted it, but people have made it so you can use modern hardware and install XP, so I wouldn't have to fish around for old parts that would inevitably break.

Even if it's just reusing the geometry of the levels and adding objects of your own (like how you have different set-ups for different skirmish missions in 1), that would be amazing.

It's a military war setting that wants its audience to take it somewhat seriously. At least questing these things would add some depth to it and make it a more believable setting. Like how they went over racism. But they handled it in the most basic and indirect way they could. Darcsens did nothing wrong and people only hate them because history told them to. From an event that happened a very long time ago. Which isn't even a reason why many are people are racist these days. It's not like Korea or China and Japan which constantly steal ideas from each other and always feel like rivals.

Sacrificing Selvaria was the most stupid thing he did and he could have used that tank to remove said army. Who the fuck would fight against that giant tank/ship and Selvaria? No one would stand a chance.

Compared to VC1 I think this looks worse aesthetically speaking. I don't like the raggedy, thrown together look of the unfiroms and a lot of those design choices look downright bad.

Why couldn't they stick with the simple yet aesthetically pleasing designs of VC1? Welkin's outfit especially looked fantastic.

VC1 was a uniform militia, VC4 appears to be 'frozen north unit surviving without resupply for months' and those kind of 'on tour for months alone' can go a little feral and customise their gear.

I think your HP would decrease every turn if a heater was not present on a map in 3 and 2, so you can definitely expect some kind of a status effect, but if winter is the sole focus this time, probably several.
Double AP expenditure, lower accuracy and HP depletion were all present in 2/3 for different kinds of environments.

I once played a fantastic left 4 dead fan made campaign where random blizzards fucked with your visibility and not sticking near heat made you slower but of course sticking near them made the director load in a horde or special infected.

The question here would be: does the enemy have better insulating equipment?

If you are both the same then both rush for the heat, both need supplies and both have poor vision.

But if theres a better equipped force they can lurk in the blinding snow, be insulated from the cold so their vehicles may run better but perhaps can overheat faster? perhaps goggles that let them see better restrict their vision from flanking attacks?

I would actually argue against a sequel, some games just don't need one. I would much rather see a remake where they have all the content they didn't have time to implement in the original. The devs talked about how massive chunks of both the yellow and purple civilization chapters were cut out as well the obvious fact the Piastol was meant to be a playable character. I don't have a link but there was a interview with some of the writers and devs that talked about how much the game got cut down and how there was even a PS2 release planned but SEGA decided to put more money on sonic games and cut Skies budget halfway through development.
