Now if you have to handle payroll etc, it becomes a practical necessity. However this fact of modern life is not exclusive to england, its this way everywhere. What you're failing to consider, user, is that American game companies still want to sell their products in Europe. Belgium's verdict could easily get adopted by other EU member nations, which would then require game publishers to do one of three things:

1. Bypass those generally lucrative European markets entirely. Which they won't do because they need those shekels.

2. Create two entirely unique SKUs of a game; one that has gambling and one that doesn't. And then somehow ensure they're still balanced and can function if a EU player plays against a NA player.

3. Cut out gambling all together and release one SKU.

Let's be clear - if this Belgian decision gains traction in the EU, it's going to be a HUGE problem for companies like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc. Huge.

It seems like so many people are ignoring the circumstances, motives of the publishers, the lack of consumers exercising their right to not buy, it feels like a hasty and dangerous bandaid solution to a small symptom of a much larger problem.

Though with the buying up developers, I always thought that was a case of developers not being able to find a publisher, so they make some awful deal with the devil because they have no other choice.
