Assuming the next team has a total 180 in staff and attitude, the next game could be "surprisingly good". But no one will buy it after the shit of Forces.
If they somehow still get given a go-ahead, the next game could be better with the same budget, and any niggles they had before ironed out.
The one after that has potential to be amazing - providing they get a bigger budget and don't fuck up.

So you could hope a new team working for 20 years can fix 3D sonic.
Or make more Sonic Mania style games, which massively outsold Forces.

So, I bought and Platinumed forces on PS4. I thought it was fun. Worth noting I probably would have gotten it on PC if not for Denuvo. There are plenty treating Denuvo like AIDS at this point, and I don't imagine it helps them any. Kind of blows how the best hardware gets treated like a second class citizen in current year.

The character is designed to be as easy to redraw for kids. You can draw as poorly as possible, and it still look like it "fits".

I really loved the werehog sections despite it's gimmicky playstyle and it's version exclusive stages (which i'm still pissed off the Wii version was a watered down version) i think it could be added again but for a different character but since people like to bitch about it we won't ever see it again.

I had a dream where in a 3D Sonic game you can spin dash, drop dash, air-dash, and u-turn (Sonic does a 180 and charges his speed until you release, you can aim while charging like spin dash). You can also collect elemental shields again and perform a "shield burst" after taking a hit to clear the area around you with that element. You can also manually sacrifice your shield to create a screen clearing tornado.

Also with each new chaos emerald you gain a new chaos power you can spend 50 rings to use. Forgot what they were.

Well it took me 30 hours to 100% Sonic Forces, It's was pretty underwhelming at first, but I did enjoy it more when I was doing all the beat the level in "xx" seconds challenges. and the OC creator was as fun as I was hoping. Pic related was a bunch made by some guy.

After making an OC for each race in order to get 100% this one ended up being my favorite.

I like the boxing glove guy, how everything that makes the character Sonic-esque is obscured.

The OC creator was literally the only well done part of the game. The actual gameplay and level design was unimpressive or just worse then how it was in Generations. While Sonic Maina was able to Perfectly recreate the Classic Sonic gameplay. They blatantly advertised Chaos to appeal to Adventure fans and then he wasn't a boss fight or did anything in the story.

Speaking of Knuckles, his personality is top tier in SA2. Him getting pissy and fucking up the spaceship to get at the master emerald was one of the best parts of the game. Or him literally popping up out of aquatic mine out of nowhere.

Documentation on the Ruby itself is too sparse to say for certain.
Both Mania and Forces imply it isn't illusionary and it only is stated as such as a canned line that I cannot confirm if it is in the original script.

Utopia really puts into perspective one thing that has always been missing from 3D Sonic. Openness. 2D Sonic was always one of the more exploration based platformers, with there always being multiple paths through a level, and entrances to the special stages to find in later games. I understand the dangers of going full open world, but wouldn't it be cool if finding all of the emeralds was a challenge again?

There are special challenges both in SA1 and 2. They aren't that difficult, though, but they do add a level of exploration. SA2 is better in that aspect than SA1, like finding the Chao or the hard mode.
