WoW's art style seems to be based on easiest to run on toasters. It is downright repulsive. Torchlight devs actually mimicked it, the madmen– it is the worst part of the game.

The WotLK beta model, which was just the best purplish armor that could look vaguely Sylvanas-like without additional texture work as far as I can tell- and which can likely confirmed by just looking at a leather or mail WotLK transmog list- and was a compromise while the most accurate possible custom model was being thrown together, something that could be done without doing any additional retexture work, like slapping purple on the Jade set and trying to rig that together with other mix & match shit; it wasn't the most accurate, but it was the most accurate with existing parts they'd already made by that point, with no development time wasted trying to make a diet custom look with refurbished assets. That philosophy gave them OG Sylvanas, which looks kind of terrible.
Further back, pop fantasy-style concept art had elven rangers with exposed navels & thighs or otherwise heavy impractical stylization all the way in Warcraft 2. This is how it's always been; the unique model she received was MORE accurate, not less, let alone designed as an 'animu garbage dragon maid.' The Ghostlands book- a literal gook manhwa, produced with Blizzard consent & oversight however loose- was actually more provocative than the original or modern design (let alone the no-belly current one) with tight-ass pants (or tight asspants as it were) and a teeny gilded metal bra. Furthermore, the Alextraza rig was derived from Sylvanas's, and Ysera's from Alextraza's, not the other way around.
Again, those designs have been there all along. Warcraft was never 'medieval fantasy,' it was pop fantasy that was (maybe) derived from a failed Warhammer RTS project with kinda quasi Heavy Metal Magazine-looking concept art. I'm not sure if that's the best way to put it, but I'm not sure how else to get my meaning across; I suppose it also resembles some old AD&D art here and there. Thick lines, stylized, fantastical, exaggerated for flare without much concern for function. Heroic proportions. Babes splattered wherever they'd fit, while the men & monsters are brick shithouses or otherwise caricatures.
That's the root of Warcraft, not some hackneyed un-fantastic 'medieval fantasy' born from the squeamishness of cucklords and their sheer uncreative inability to either create proper low fantasy or high fantasy, settling for a compromise with the dung age looking 'practicality' mutated from the former and the belief-suspending of the latter required without any ability to suspend disbelief thanks to the schizoid tone, arms & armor illiteracy, and modern ethic transplant writing. The sort of thing that spawned Dragon Age, televised Game of Thrones, so on; an ugly compromise that doesn't satisfy people who want the pop fantasy roots of this game series nor those who want harder fiction as you might find in a niche author or a splatbook for an originally mundane low medieval game system. But it's good enough for the lowest common denominator, right? Except anything is good for them; catering to them more than incidentally is ridiculous, since doing so betrays the niche and puts your foundation on sand.

It is only existent in the beta. It is a slight modification of the generic Blood Elf rig. It existed only until WotLK was ready for release and it was replaced by the intended, original model, which was a close mirror of her original Warcraft III model, and the placeholder was dummied out, since it was easier to leave it unused in the gamefiles than to painstakingly cleanly delete it.
The only small consolation to you is that the navel gap was technically an artistic import from the Night Elf Archer texture, as the High/Blood Elf retexture and Sylvanas (live or dead) had fuller tunics, with the latter appearing vaguely corseted or otherwise more rigid with the extra texture details; all three had gigantic pixelly cleavage regardless with big ol' thighs & kneeboots. I disagree that they should have simply lifted the Alexstrazsa model directly from WoW since it's basically just a belf wearing a silly hat, but the new model is just wrong.

But the fact they started at 1 rather than 50, or 98 in the case of Demon Hunters is definitely a significant factor. Having a large starting population is critical to having a class community long term, tons and tons of people rerolled to a hero class the moment it was available.

The game seems to have a tendency to give its female characters exposed bellies and big legs. I'm guessing someone at Blizz has a muscle fetish because of this. I wouldn't mind the right image in the OP and have no complaints if a design like that was used for the game, but my penis prefers the larger breasts, wider hips, more defined belly, and thicker thighs on the left. But I figured it's obviously not going to represent the *entire* site, so if I could find the right shit I'd be good. And every artist uses it). But holy fucking shit, it is awful. Navigating it is a mess, every blog has its own theme and most of them are shitty custom ones that make finding things a hassle (or are covered in gifs and auto-playing music like this is the 90s). The tags fucking suck, trying to find what you want is a pain because most people don't tag their shit right or slightly differently from eachother so every tag is cluttered with unrelated garbage and is missing a ton of shit that would show up on a better site. And of course, the fucking reputation is well-deserved. You can't go browsing for longer than five minutes (if you're lucky) without running into the exact kind of cancer you hear about. I deserve all the headaches I got for trying to give it a chance.
