This is the only time Vaporeon has ever looked decent.

I don't know what it is, but the body doesn't look too long and the ears and fins don't look retarded.

It has that mohawk/third fin I mentioned, plus the artstyle is more detailed. The fins on the tail are also thin like a fish's fin, as oppose to thick like a dolphins. I think the proportions are adjust (the tail is actually longer IMO) so it seems more like an aquatic, streamlined mammal with powerful limbs to swim. Not a cuddly toy with fish parts.

I don't know what this fucking obsession with making some Pokemon like Pikachu and Vaporeon look much skinner, but it's obnoxious. It doesn't even look good and tons of other anime
with straight up moe literally make cuter animals.

But yeah, I think it's afterthought fins and ugly, unnatural looking mane.

I don't know why only Vaporeon got the short end of the stick while Flareon and Jolteon have always looked just fine.

They definitely don't have the same charm the old pokemon have, but there's a few I really like. Like for example goddamn I love Cutiefly.

I don't. Purely from a design perspective. The first gen was rock solid in its designs and its simplicity. Gen 2 took a nosedive in quality in my opinion, compared to the first, as it took on a completely different look for pokemon, but after that it got a bit better again. The really solid pokemon designs got fewer and fewer with each new generation from 3 onward though.

Mega evos are ridiculous and Ultra Beasts I have no words for. They're just beyond retarded.

That's because most gen 2 pokemon were actually gen 1 rejects.
UBs are supposed to be very different design wise and actively go against several design rules to pull this off. Megas on the other hand just took the digimon route of just adding spikes and lasers to shit at random and will forever be a blight on the series.

Mega Charizard Y, Mega Pidgeot, Mega Beedrill, Mega Gyarados, Mega Alakazam, Mega Gengar, Mega Scizor, Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, Mega Mawile, Mega Aggron, Mega Manectric, Mega Altaria, Mega Camerupt, Mega Salamence, Mega Metagross, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Gallade and Mega Audino all don't have that problem at all and expand on their original designs tastefully while showing a further evolution and increase in power.

The only things that actually lazily shove spikes on are Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Tyrannitar, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Glalie and Gigan X wannabe shit. Charizard X uses the more beast spikes sticking out of its horns, back and arms to look more like a dragon and Lucario's, of all things, actually fixes everything shit with the original design and looks more like an animal by giving everything more of a natural appearance and prevalence, but I can understand why it would be considered a bad example of not even nearly all Megas being ugly tryhard shit, so I didn't include it.

and yes, they are overdesigned and badly designed, and im saying this as a graphic designer. you can clearly see differences in design approach in old and new gens and the way new monsters are designed is the same way overwatch is. this new approach takes an old idea, makes it more colorful, simplified kawai caricature. why? because kids are attracted to bright, flashing colors, and their attention span isnt long to see the details, texture, shadows, etc. that way companies can make thousends of designs in few days, weeks

Charizard just becomes a wyvern with its horns merging into a larger one, its back sharpening a little and its body getting sleeker for flight.
Beedrill just has its body hardened and sharpened.
Pidgeot grows larger wings and plumage.
Gyarados just becomes more like an armored raging monster fish instead of a serpent.
Gengar just becomes a giant demonic shadow with an eye on its forehead.
Mawile just grows another monster mouth to attack with along with a slight increase of its bangs and lower body to the arms.
Aggron just becomes bulkier, but more polished and sharpened into a pure Steel-type.
Altaria gets a pretty nice tail of ribbons and fluffs out like giant cloud.
Metagross folds up its body and can now fly and slam those giant arms/legs growing a bit more in the back into things.
Gallade's arms power up and its gains a cape that basically get rid of all that jarring green before.
Audino's ears stand up and gains more fur along with turning white with red/pink eyes.

Rayquaza is the only actual extreme example and that's just wild patterns, energy streams shooting off its more developed eastern dragon body and giant blades coming out of its mouth. This done to look more like a beast that descended from wishes with the power to quell weather.

None of these are bad designs. They're just expanding on what was already there and even moving closer to inspiration in some cases. You used overdesigned like a retarded buzzword and now the other retard is saying it's fact just because they have any graphic designing experience.

I never figured out if I liked it regular mawile or not. The head-mouth just looked strange to me. Slapping on a second mouth is kind of lazy though, but it does look kind of cute in that image.

I'm not defending that, that was retarded, as says, it was a shitshow, but it wasn't "SJW's taking over development": I was saying that political stupidity stays in non-project discussions and doesn't influence actual development.

To go into more detail: The person who got removed/kicked had been doing an incompetent job to begin with by lying about what work they were getting done and causing miscommunication between different sections of development. Due to the arguements in off topic areas/chats, they were paranoid that when they got taken off of plot/writing that it was because of those rather then the fact they were doing a shit job and lying about it, and they sperged out in actual development chats about said political disagreements instead of keeping them in off topic, which is why they got kicked entirely rather then just removed from working on plot: *He* was the one bringing his own political spats and baggage with other people into project development.

The fact those spats were happening to begin with was the result of other people being asshats, but none of them brought it into actual development stuff, so saying that it's "SJW's taking over the project" would be retarded. Some of the people working on it are liberals, some are conservatives, some are liberatarians, at one point there was even a far right antisemetic Spanish guy. Nobody gets kicked or or removed based on political opinions, the only reason this guy did was because he didn't keep the arguing about it sperate from development.

I don't think anything needs to be done. Having Sage match the actual tone of the official games from visuals to writing to themes to general design philosophy (aside from the super dumb shit) is pretty much the core goal of the project, any sort of content or decision that gets made is measured against that and people take it absurdly seriously. Anybody trying to push their own personal agenda into the game would face pushback not only from everybody who cares about preserving that tone (IE, everybody) but also from anybody who disagrees with that agenda poltically, and there's no real political view or outlook the entire project shares.

I just copied & pasted an alphabetical list of All the pokemon onto a Notepad document. Then I just tallied an " I " next to the names as I went down the thread, post by post. Took me a while to get to the end, but hey, at least you now know that Gardevoir is the most popular pokemon on Holla Forums. My money was on Gengar though..
