Turn based tactics vidya

would like to branch out more into the subject's genre. Played Openxcom(including xpiratez), X-Com-Apocalypse(not as much as openxcom because I'm still waiting on openapoc), the new ones(I hated the two a lot), Xenonauts, Jagged Alliance 2 and Frozen Synpase(if it counts).
Is Hard West any good? Are there any recommended mods for Xenonauts or the X-com games? Will Xenonauts 2 or Phoenix Point be any good?

What about fantasy settings?

Fantasy General and Battle for Wesnoth

I was thinking more about squad level; say Eisenwald or Battle Brothers. King's Bounty maybe.

Blackguards?

Sure thing, but I didn't really feel battle brothers after a while. It just felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again and getting one of my better dudes wrecked in one crossbow bolt/arrow kind of soured it for me.
Speaking of which, is Mordheim any good? Is any good?

BG1 is OK but the story is shit and you're honestly better off playing Drakensang if that's a concern. Pretty decent tactics game otherwise. I couldn't get past the camera to get into Mordheim but that's a personal thing.

Warbanners or Bastard Bonds are another option.

I think I've heard of this before, was this the one where the artist was obviously a bara fetishist? Do you mind telling me more about it, gameplay wise? also is there anything that's lewd in a not gay way?

Wow, you say that like you don't enjoy deep dank fantasies or something. :^) Barashit is optional and you can impregnate a female crusader or tame and raise free-range monstergirls. Not joking. The gameplay is mobileshit tier but still interesting for awhile.

You had me until mobileshit. I feel as if the firaxis games are literal mobile games with how shallow they are and I despise it.

I wouldn't suggest it if it was bad

Bumpan

Okay I guess.

Disgaea and other NIS games. Disgaea 1, 2 and Phantom Brave are all on Steam

Still on my Steam wishlist:
Hartacon Tactics
Hellenica
Warbanners
Agarest: Generations of War (series)
Expeditions: Viking (and Conquistadors)
All Walls Must Fall

For not squad based, but still turn based strategy games check out Ageod.
They make historical turn based strategy games.

Unbelievable garbage.

Conq is alright but Viking is inspired by the namesake SJW TV series. It's also near unplayable with bugs and issues.

And what's with the steam recommend EA garbage? You some kind of a retard or what?

And features much of the same pozz. A real fucking shame they had to ruin such a cool concept and their reputations by making such a garbage, historically incorrect piece of shit game. Alas, we'll have to wait for a viking Bannerlord mod plus rape mod for the proper viking experience.

I said its on my wishlist. I dont own it yet.

How is UFO:Alien Invasion?

Kill yourself.

As far as I can tell, Phoenix Point is hitting on a lot of good stuff, but it remains to be seen if Gollop can deliver on them.

Cautiously optimistic, so far.

Have a look at one of their dev diaries:
phoenixpoint.info/blog/2017/10/29/new-jericho-starts-to-take-shape

Age of Wonders

UFO: Aftermath is also a good one. It's ok vanilla but truly shines when you mod it. It's also pretty unforgiving so be prepared to lose people and get your ass kicked.

Bumpan, thanks for all the recommendations.

I'd like to incubate her if you catch my drift.

I recently played this but was annoyed with the soldiers leaving you mechanic. I thought I understood it, but at the beginning of one mission a huge amount of my forces just up, and abandoned me. Any tips for how to manage that.

I'm gonna need some gameplay footage before I jump into that.

No, I don't catch your 'drift'. What do you mean?

Jump to 14:19 to skip the intro and mission briefing. If you're still interested you can check out the share thread. I uploaded the GOG version some time ago to the vola there and it got re-uploaded at least once.

My african compatriot. So which mods would you recommend for this game?

Shit there are mods for this?
Give me that shit.

There are some few here:

I'm playing the mega mod one which is located somewhere at the forums, tbh I don't really like this mod since it removes the comfy music at the globescape and changed the world texture into a mess. But its too late since I am already mid-way into this game might as well finish it that way.

What does the mega mod add?

Check here: ghostbin.com/paste/mptvs

spidermen makes all kinds of tactical rpgs. i really like exile/avernum, not many games have a giant cave setting.

hell, some user started a thread about it.

when do I get to do all the administrative shit on the world map? I liberted Omerta and Im not earning any money yet, the rebels tell me I should liberate another town near east of the map

Around the time you start using your brain

UFO seems pretty good and I'm gonna give it a try alongside Wesnoth and Bastard Bonds.
Two final questions, how's hard west and what was that upcoming game where you played a tacticool unit? I can't really remember anything outside of that. The trailer had you storming some barn and shootan some people.

Bumpaan one last time. Wesnoth is pretty fun for a free game. Again, thanks for the recommendations.

Silent Storm.
Temple of Elemental Evil
Avoid jap garbo

If you recruit units during combat, or the game isn't balanced to kill units in the normal course of play, it doesn't belong.

Used to be pretty fun.

Sadly, development has slowed down to a crawl, which is especially bad since the current (>v2.4) TU/encumbrance/reaction system is pretty badly broken.

Turn-based games are for lethargic low-apm plebs. I bet OP posts in comfy threads.

it's crap, don't bother
good thread though

any love for pic related?
I found it to be the best in the series

im scared of aliens

ayy

Front Mission if you want mecha turn based tactics. The first game is somewhat easy though.

That makes it better

Final Fantasy Tactics.

And if you want to get demolished, play this version after you've mastered the base game:

If you want, there's also Kamidori Alchemy Meister. It's the porn version of FFT. Combat is so-so and it's structured like a visual novel.

Get a city with people in it and not a basement full of rebels.

im gonna have nightmares

Open apoc is out OP you nigger

Dang I played the shit out of that and modded it to boot.

Some nicer armor and weapons.

Yeah I like it how in Aftershock the weapons got expanded with new features like attachments and other tactical features. What I disliked about this series is that they got rid of this procedural generated maps that Aftermath had, I played this one a lot and later finished it and I just find it weird that you get some sort of a base space ship that is traveling around the world doing stuff and then you get to see only a few map types all over again with no differences between each other. It is also a bummer that the new alien race looks pretty cartoonish. The base building mechanism was pretty neat as well.

UFO Aftermath 2 when

Isn't it this game where the squads literally cannot die? As in they just fall unconsciousness when they don't have any hit points left.

I don't think so.
this is the one with a few colonists on mars and where you later ally with a certain type of ayyliums

I don't think it's ready yet

nice
