I'm losing my fucking mind, why does the multiverse always have to be complex? Why does it always have to be collapsing? It's fucking stupid. Peter teaming up with different versions of himself is cool but does anyone care about the "Spider-Verse" as a concept this much? Does it need to take over every movie, you can do a black Spider-Man or Woman Spider-Man without this
I'm losing my fucking mind, why does the multiverse always have to be complex? Why does it always have to be collapsing...

>>137654560No. It’s all the same world. Only one season dealt with a multiverse due to the unavailability of certain actors for previous Riders. They used it as an explanation for the recasts.

>>137654131>Peter teaming up with different versions of himself is coolExcept that it's not. It's a superhero team where everyone has the same powerset. It's even worse when it's a team where everyone's the same guy, or rando OCs cosplaying as the same guy. For Spider-Man in particular, a multiversal team up is taking him so far away from his element and everything that makes him work, it's something you shouldn't do more than once every 10-20 years at most, not normalize it until it becomes commonplace and banal.
>>137655431The novelty of the original SpiderVerse stuff has been completely discarded to push OCs

>>137654147shut the fuck up
>>137654131I don't like all the retarded rules they add to multiverse travel. We don't need convoluted glitching out and canon event shit.
>>137654131What is with all the smoothbrains coming out of the woodwork to complain about multiverse shit lately? It's really not complicated at all. We had no problems with it for the past several decades.
>>137655849It's not that it's complicated like OP's said. It's just that it's a fucking terrible plot device and it's being way too overused in comics and films right now
>>137654287>Kamen Rider isn't about saving the multiverse.Decade and Zi-O are. Decade is obviously Decade but Sougo had to create a new reality on top of rewriting history so that the Oma Zi-O events didn't happen. You even had Tsukasa along for the ride talking about how Sougo's world was coming to an end and their entire plan in the finale revolved around each world needing their own Rider to survive. Sougo himself was also always going to become Oma Zi-O which is why Geiz and Tsukuyomi went back to the back to the first place to try and change that reality before he destroys everything in every world and every Rider. You also have movie crossovers with multiple Riders from multiple realities from time to time. Occasionally they have stuff like Megamax or Heisei Generations where multiple Riders exist in the same world and continuity.
>>137655849Multiverse stories are unoriginal.
>>137655849Outside of the comics, which have a bazillion of everything, how many multiverse stories did we even have until the first Spiderverse movie and both Disney and Warner subsequently going full retard? The only ones I can remember are the worst story arc of the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, and a small number of alternate timeline episodes in the DCAU.
>>137656022Kamen Rider, and Super Sentai while we're at it, has the right approach to long-running superhero continuity, in that each individual entry is self-contained with its own separate stories (aside from Decade, Zi-O, and the handful of Showa period crossover episodes) while the movies pick and choose whether they're all part of the same continuity or not based on whatever they think works better for each individual movie instead of obsessing over canon details.
>>137656301Rick and Morty wore it out alone but we also had Adventure Time, TMNT Forever, Justice Lords etc
>they just want to sell toys!No shit. I bought (made my mom purchase) a giant Spiderman action figure in early 90s simply because it had a parachute and I thought that was crazy cool. The franchise has always been like that - a franchise.
>>137654131I know people are tired of seeing Spider-man and Multiverse together, but I’d love a new Shattered Dimensions game
>>137654131Narratively, the reason multiverses are always collapsing is because the moment you introduce a multiverse or multiple timelines to the canon it means there are no stakes for any story anymore unless it involves more than one timeline. Nothing in any individual universe matters because it isn't special or unique anymore since there's an infinite number of timelines where the same shit happened, and nothing new is worth doing because it's already been done an infinite amount of times in every possible way. Multiverses and split timelines ruin stories as a rule. The only exception I can think of is Zelda, whose timelines are so convoluted that almost everyone just ignores them.
>>137656479Nah you can have dignified stories and toyetic merch, making the stories themselves toyetic is retarded and infantile
>>137657389Zelda could’ve been solved by placing the 2D games in one universe, and the 3D games in another that’s divided by two timelines. That would ideally solve everything.
>>137654615>they don’t want multiple Spider-people.Patently untrue or everyone would be hating every non-Peter character in Spiderverse
>>137657785Spider-Verse isn’t making a billion worldwide. No Way Home did and that had three Peters.
>>137657832That's extremely different from "No one wants this". They're also extremely different movies, one being an animated film and the other being live action and bringing back beloved actors as part of its crossover.
>>137657389Multiple timelines could work if there's only a small limited amount of very different timelines from each other. On the other hand, infinite timelines only produce the exact issue that you mention where nothing ever really matters in the plot because there's another timeline where everything is fine
>>137654131>hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtagThe soul has been completely sucked out of comics
>>137654131>why does the multiverse always have to be complex? Why does it always have to be collapsingI'm doing a multiverse story for /hyw/, so I've asked this myself. Having said that, I'm not Marvel, so take this with a grain lf salt.>ComplexYou need something to justify its existence, but even more than that, you need something to ID the collective as a multiverse. At that point, you enter meta-commentary about what differentiates each universe and the consistent rules for each (i.e. why each multiverse only splits after the 19th century), so you need some cataclysm for it all.>StakesBecause powerlevelshit.Think about it. Universe A has Bumblefuck the hobo died. Universe 1 has him live. Universe A is going to die. Who cares? You still have all of Universe 1 that still has everyone you were missing except Bumblefuck. So, you need some meta threat, and thus something that plays into the meta-mechanics.The dissonance comes from this being Spider-Man, who's supposed to be relatively low for Marvel's powerscaling.

>>137657864Mario was animated and that too made a billion dollars.
>>137657389>introduce a multiverse or multiple timelines to the canon it means there are no stakes for any story anymore unless it involves more than one timeline. So, never watched Twin Peaks, mate?>The only exception I can think of is Zelda, whose timelines are so convoluted that almost everyone just ignores them.Yeah, now I know you didn't watch Twin Peaks. The problem with Zelda has always been the localization sucks ass. Quit believing everything Holla Forums tells you and that you pick up online. Form your own opinions about stuff.>>137657703Quit dogpiling and learn to form your own opinions too. How many other people say that exact thing? Played every single Zelda game? NO? Shut up.
>>137659846>Twin PeaksWhoops, I meant The OA actually. I watched Twin Peaks The Return and it back to back so I tend to conflate them sometimes.
>LE MULTIVERSE MANE XDDWarhammer is the only one that uses this shit right and this is saying a lot about farthammer, there are only 2 planes fantasy/AoS and 40k (BB is not canon) the only ones to move to each of these universes are the demons. It's as simple as that.no soilentverse or anything else.
>>137655671All of this. And as I said in another thread, the insanely high stakes a la "the universes are collapsing" are just way too hard to get invested in. Spider-Man is way better grounded with grounded stakes, multiverse should be left for heroes who fit it like Captain Britain.
