Fair enough, I agree in fact.

Even if MM is superior (which I don't agree with anyways), that doesn't make DotT a bad game. And you can't really hold the game itself responsible for a whole lot of shitty knockoffs.

No fail states and the only acceptable solutions are convoluted mess that only make sense in hindsight. (You can do that because of other puzzle or you can only do it that way because other puzzle)

1) MM is superior.
2) The trend is cancer and games that follow that trend only gotten better by giving less options and cutting the game to smaller sections.
3) DotT is a bad game.

As if MM didn't have it's fair share of that.

Fail states are a bullshit mechanic in this genre. I'll never forget playing Return to Zork as a kid, getting hours into it, and getting totally stuck… because I pulled up a plant instead of using a knife to dig it out in the first five fucking minutes of the game.

Even if you had got the plant the right way, there is a 99% chance you would have messed something else up without a guide. That game is pretty bullshit but I still like it for the nostalgia

MM had trial and error. DotT had trial and trial and trial and trial and… In fact, deductive reasoning would hamper your success because sometimes you just do thing in wrong order. Like I know that I needed to dress up the mummy but the game won't let me. It turns out that I needed to push the mummy to the contest then dress it up.
When you rip open an envelope in MM, you'll figure out that you messes up when you need it mail a letter. In DotT, the character would make up some bullshit about it being illegal only for you to break the law to solve the problem.

No fail states are a crutch for the hacks to make completely nonsensical puzzles. They all boil down to clicking everything with every item because trying to apply logic to the puzzles would just infuriate you.

I played in daily for 3 straight months until I just followed a walkthrough, the people who made it were brain damaged, none of it makes any sense at all. It's the only game I have never completed by myself.

Tentacles and lolis is as good as it gets.

That reminds me: in Zak McKracken, one of the required puzzles is to microwave an egg. Pretty harmless, right? However, you can horribly kill your goldfish in 3 ways. And one solution to getting rid of a squirrel is to "use" a dead tree branch on it. I love sadism in these games
