The first (and its expansion) and fourth (MW) games are gems. After that they just milked it for all its worth, and it became a soulless product where the actual team of people developing it doesn't really matter.

Don't forget that Vivendi did a hostile takeover on Activision, so they screwed up them for a while (It would explain the poor quality in some games that I heard from other CoD players).

CoD Ghosts was never good.

Is that the story, the crazy multiplayer community, or did something glitch out? I heard that the pc version of Ghosts wasn't as good as its' console counterparts.

Ghosts just wasn't good. the story was stupid, the multiplayer was very standard cod-by-numbers, it was just really lacking in every way. the only redeemable part was a snoop dogg multiplayer announcer pack, and when the best part of your game is an optional piece of $2 DLC you've fucked up big time

The story was boring, none of the characters were remotely likable. InfinityWard were so full of themselves that the game ended on a cliffhanger.
I enjoyed the multiplayer progression system (you could unlock the weapon, the attachment and the perks that you wanted with the tokens that you earn by either leveling up or completing challenges. Most of the maps were awful (it didn't help that you could customize your character so you ended up facing teams of ghillie suits running around with shotguns). The Extinction mode was ok, it was a reskin of the zombie mode but with aliens, then episode after episode they started to add all the dumb shit from Treyarch's zombies (traps and contraptions).
The big problem with Ghosts (consoles and pc) is that InfinityWard didn't give a shit. Technically it looked uglier than MW3, they re-used a lot of assets and animations (there was an entire cutscene that was lifted from MW2 but with different character models). The PC version wasn't optimised, it required an insane amount of RAM and hard drive space for what it was.

No wonder why I see other gamers begging for a Ghosts sequel, it's because of a cliffhanger.

The last part is what I was heard, Ghosts wasn't optimized as well on PC.

To this day I still don't understand why there are people who wanted a Ghosts 2. I know people hated Infinite Warfare but it was way better than Ghosts, at least they went full scifi in space.

From what I saw during the beta, they have pratically the same character customization that they had in Advanced Warfare (in AW you had a choice between 5 or 6 faces for both male and female).

Company of Heroes & its DLC had some great German campaigns, and you don't see stories being told very often let alone being as engrossing as they were in CoH (In my opinion anyway). The Tiger Ace was especially fun controlling the most OP tank I've ever seen in a video game. MOW:AS2 is pretty good but there's no real campaign of sorts, just a series of unrelated missions loosely based on real battles.

I've been playing Codename Panzers recently and damn that's a pretty good game. Despite the shite voice acting I love the details they put into the cutscenes and diaries for each mission; one of the invasion of Poland diary entries had something about some Germans lodging in an old Polish farmer's house who was quite hostile to them at first, but then shared a barrel of wine with them after their medic helped the farmer's cow deliver a calf. I don't know why but I love little things like that, makes the writers look a lot better.

Panzer General 1 and 2, and the newer spiritual successor called Panzer Corps. All the games let you win the war for Germany and eventually invade England, followed by the US if you are good enough. Alternatively, if you fuck up history takes its usual course.

Then you have a shitload of mods for Darkest Hour that allow you to win WW2 as Germany and go through an alternative Cold War (that you can turn hot).

Soldiers: Heroes of WW2, Faces of War and Men of War all have campaigns that focus on the Germans without any of the whiny bullshit. Blitzkrieg 1 and 2 and the mods if you want something a little more tactical.

The second Brothers in Arms had a coop campaign where you played as a German, wasn't really storylined or anything though.
It's not toaster/pirate friendly enough for a mainstream gamenight, could work for an off-weekend but someone else would have to run it.
