I'm actually getting multiple pieces of art work that I can interchange when I want. I'll have a waifu on it at some point. I'm also building a box from scratch to stick parts in. I'm going to put Platinum on that stick and have chibi buttons featuring several characters a long with a chibi balltop. Also getting a custom etched plex for the bottom to show off the internals. I already have 2 sticks but I'm going to build two more. I was a custom one for /fightan/ and another one for shumps (which will have a 2hu theme).

Keyboard -> arcade stick is an easier translation. Pad isn't bad if we're talking d-pad. I started on arcade parts but was forced to use a pad at home until I was a teenager because I was a poorfag. Just understand that if you're going to eventually get a stick you'll have to deal with adjusting to it for some time. Frustrating but worth it.

I beat Fatal Frame 2 today, loved the shit out of it. I'm gonna pick up Fatal Frame 3 as soon as I get my next check in; gonna save it to play for for next Halloween. Besides that, I played Hollow Knight for a good 3 or 4 hours straight, having a ton of fun with that too. Also; I binged the first 7 episodes of Made in Abyss. It's pretty nice, it's cute but has seriously dark overtones something awful is gonna happen soon I can feel it.

No, it's a horror game series that started out on the PS2. I've only played the first two so far, playing the first one last Halloween and beating the second one today. They're both two of the best horror games I've ever played though.

Several choices, you can get an MC Cthulhu or PS360+ for cheap and use that. The MC Cthulhu is really nice because it has upgradable firmware and supports about 15 consoles last I checked. It uses RJ-45 -> whatever cables and it's easy to make your own. If you want to go cheap you can padhack an Xbox 360 controller (use the pcb) or get a PCB out of a TE2 or most any last gen arcade stick. You'll want xinput support so you don't have to mess around with software. Most good games support dinput but doujin stuff and older games sometimes require xinput exclusively.

You DEFINITELY should play Last Light. I'm inclined to say it was better than 2033, but they're both so damned good. I don't think I could honestly pick between one or the other.

there's no panties, at least not in the first two games. Haven't played 3 or 4, and in 5 the panty controversy actually revolved around some of the bonus unlockable costumes that you get for beating the game on certain difficulties. If you are going to buy the college lie and commit, you're best bet is to use that BA to go to Japan and teach English. It's a mindless job and you get plenty of time to study and learn Japanese as well as hear/see/write/use it everyday. That's what I did and I eventually got to the point where I could get a regular JP job and it was great - if you have the liver for the job.

To give Midway, and later Xseed, credit with the Shadow Hearts series, all three PS2 games have the same lead translator, regardless of what company the guy was at. Helps a lot with continuity in a series with a (then) ongoing chronology.

As a writer myself that shit happens to me all the time, I write something and then I see it after the editor puts it up and it's like wtf where you thinking that wasn't my intention at all that's not me, but now I just learned to live with it.

Basically this is what happened. In the 90s you had to join anime clubs to watch anything. When DivX first came out all of that shit on VHS was dumped to the internet. When that stock pile was depleted there was a huge backlog of stuff going back 30 years to be fansubbed. So the best of the best was what got distributed. As we worked through that backlog there were less stand out series to subtitle so people started working on moe-shit and other various things. Now you're lucky to see one good series every few years because they were rare before but no one noticed because there was a ton of stuff that hadn't been seen yet. Also, with digital taking over it has become easier for anyone to produce things cheaply. You don't have to commit as much time to making a series. This is why the quality of the art and stories have gone down. Now add in non-Japanese influencing what gets produced in Japan and you'll understand why things have gotten so bad.

I'm not sure. You might want to look into the credits for the NA SNES version, see if it lists off anyone in particular as editor, or if Woolsey got both jobs. Just saying since it's not the only game he worked on where a character's script had some part of them changed to various degrees (Kefka, for instance). Your right though that I'd more attribute changes to the script to shitty editors. Such as Wild Arms 5's EU French script, for example. I assume it used XSEED's NA English script as a base to translate from in turn, but from what I've heard the French script is so bad that baguettes opt to play in English instead even if French is their primary tongue.

The sun is murder on this room. Had to put something up to keep it remotely dark, and cooler in the summer too. It's mainstream as fuck now but things like Bebop and Lain were what I was getting at. I enjoy stories like that and the art style. It looks dated now but you can tell the artists poured their souls into those. I could name off several other series but you get the idea.

Should also maybe mention that WA5 was published by 505 Games in PAL, so I'd assume they just bought the rights for XSEED's English script rather than retranslate that language (barring maybe tweaking spelling; "color" to "colour", etc), but would have had to translated the other languages for the game themselves, hence the English one being fine even though the French one is shit.

Black is bad because it makes dust all the more noticeable, and if the back is black too, that's just going to make that area of the room hotter. The backs on my drapes are white; black absorbs light, while white reflects.

Yeah that's along the lines that I was thinking, I don't really even consider the newer stuff real anymore, it's so cookie cutter and samey that it's like they are just pumping out more and more of the same shit just to make money without actually trying to make something unique and awesome.

I'll try to explain what happened with the newfags. We had been running things a certain way for years when they showed up. All of them wanted to jump right into the job and were not willing to do grunt work while they learned. At the time the old bottom-tier job of distribution wasn't a big deal anyone (torrents, bandwidth was now cheap) so there wasn't much for them to do while we broke them in. Encoding also got easier and you could shit out results that were decent even if you didn't know what you were doing. You didn't have to learn how to do a lot of scripting to get good results at a low bitrate anymore since bandwidth wasn't an issue.

Anyway, what happened was we got out numbered by the newfags. They invaded and when they weren't allowed into the old groups because they weren't good they just started their own. Cancer basically. A lot of us oldfags had gotten burned out by that point and we left to go on and do other things (like have a life).

Consider giving The Soultaker a watch. The visual style makes a neat "is this actually happening or not" at times and is something of a mindfuck throughout.

Ah. I'd actually been considering shelves, or maybe more of a cabinet, with glass doors, but my parents advised me that such things actually trap dust worse, especially if the glass is meant to slide as a door for it, rather than having its own hinges.

Yea pretty much the same thing happened. It got to where translating was the only really hard job anymore. It was always the core job but other things like encoding were also hard enough that they required someone with know how. When I started we were still using Amigas and genlocks. Anyway, the newfags didn't want to learn much of anything. They didn't care about the translation and they didn't care about doing quality checks. It all became focused on shitting out an episode as quickly as possible. As more newfags showed up and started using those groups (because they released a day or two before oldfags) the oldfags got burned out because they were doing more work and watching as everyone just grabbed the shit translations.

This is why a lot of oldfags came out to do Lucky Star under new names. We didn't want to see that series get butchered. We did make some changes in the translation because certain jokes were hard to translate without massive TL notes but it was the best way to do it in my opinion.

I've only been translating for 2 years on and off but what you described was pretty much the short experience I had last year with trying to get into game translation on the internet. That's why I just decided to say fuck it and do it on my own. Little did I know that I'd have to learn all this programming shit, but that doesn't bother me if I know that I'm doing something quality.

I'd say that such cases are acceptable to do with changes (same with figures of speech), but at the same time should be done minimally. Even moreso if a series that is particularly Japanese centric, or set in Japan, where using translators notes might actually help the viewer either learn something, or help with the immersion. Same with vidya, but that's just my thoughts. Vidya also has a bit more of an excuse though in that doing "translator's notes" sort of things doesn't strike me as being nearly as easy.

It's a shame that various official companies, both for anime and for vidya, are rather unprofessional with how they handle things. And even between regions for anime releases there's also issues; heard that while Noein's English subtitled script has some differences compared to the English dub to be more accurate to the audio, the PAL release just used the English dub's script as the subtitle text, accuracy be damned. Thus you get fan-translators being burned out in both areas, the newer breed not always being up to snuff, and some official groups being so bad that fan retranslation can be necessary for proper enjoyment.

Are you learning both Japanese translation and stuff like script insertion/debugging yourself?

I already understand Japanese enough to learn new words on my own since I know about business level. But I have to learn the programming side to get the script out of and back into the game and all that shit.
