Stopping Time

Not enough games let you stop time.

Dishonored/Dishonored 2 have perhaps the most developed time stop mechanics, which lets you do really fun shit like throw things, drop people off of roofs onto other people, combine with other powers (time stop + shadow kill = delete someone from existence), and generally be a time-stopping trickster.

TimeShift is, as the name implies, also fairly well developed when it comes to timestops. Most notably you can yank the guns out of enemies' hands and watch them lose their shit when you unfreeze time. Too bad the game is pretty mediocre.

Most of the other shit I can think of is mods for games that don't otherwise have any time stop abilities. F.E.A.R. has a mod that turns the slomo into basically a time stop ability. Killing everyone in the room and unpausing time to watch the bodies fall in unison is pretty great. Skyrim also has a time stop mod that makes archery pretty fun, since arrows will hang in the air until you unfreeze time, letting you INFINITE BLADE WORKS enemies with however many arrows you want.

Any other games that let you stop time? Are they good? Is the time stop mechanic well developed in the sense that you can interact with the frozen world in unique ways?

Discuss.

Jojo HFTF has DIO and jotaro with time stop.

You can't make a good game based on time stop. Even FEAR is more fun when you don't use ability to slow time at all. Because its generally an anti-fun mechanic that reduces skill input.

...

A lot of Castlevanias have a time-stop ability. Unfortunately it doesn't work on bosses or some of the tougher monsters, but it's worth a mention either way.

Life is strange

F.E.A.R.
That's all you need.

By that logic the worst part is that you won't ever notice you stopped time, but you will also never unfreeze it. So you are frozen, but your thought process is not fast enough to realize it, so you're stuck in infinite loop of never regaining consciousness.

You are wrong, and perhaps also gay, but I only say this because I liked SUPERHOT even though it tried to meme players into viral marketing it. Also I don't like "lel u kept playing so ur dumb" shit. Yeah, ha ha ha, I have to press space bar to continue even though you're saying bad words to me, fuck you. Oh man, I made a serious moral decision by pressing that space bar to continue playing.
But despite its flaws I enjoyed that game.

Except every game that includes it puts a time limit on it. So in, say, Dishonored you have to plan out all the moves you'll make in the 8 or so seconds of stopped time you have, and continue to avoid detection.

For example, in Dishonored 1's Lady Boyle mission, you could use time stop + shadow kill to delete those music-box Overseers without raising a ruckus and blowing your cover.

What if you could stop time and move freely but you had to go back to the exact spot you were, to restart, or else the universe implodes if you aren't there.
Maybe i could tell these agdg autismos about this.

Yeah, except dishonored is gay cancer.

But user, if you stopped everyone's personal time including your own. What the next moment after stopping time forever you will experience with the rest of the world?

oh, ok

That would be pretty neat, sort of a time looping ability.

…wait, isn't that KING CRIMSON?

Warframe has Limbo, which allows you to banish an area to another dimension and then stop time within that area.
It even allows you to do DIO's Knife thing, except with any projectile.
Colored mine like DIO, equipped max fire rate Kunai and Max attack speed punching weapons for maximum muda.

What? How exactly does that work in a multiplayer game?

No, that's not how KC works.

Heh, i remember one day encountering a modded game of something, don't remember what game, but every time somebody activated time stop, everyone else game froze for a couple of seconds. That was my only experience with multiplayer time stop mechanics to realize they are bullshit.

very poorly, so no one likes limbo players.

Jojo HFTF has Dio and Jotaro's time stops. Sakuya in 12.3 has a time stop, too.

Warframe us Co-op, add allies are unaffected.
Which pieces of equipment are allowed into the competitive mode are heavily limited and most of the ones that aren't banned from it have minor changes in some way. I don't play conclave so I don't know how they changed it, but it doesn't matter because conclave is shit anyway.

And the time stop is used for puzzles in Symphony of the Night.

Quantum Break one ups you on stopping time - it BREAKS TIME
although the game is overall pretty meh. I found it worth beating, at least, if you really have nothing else to play

No mention of Bunny Must Die yet?

It's pretty awesome in Portrait of Ruin against certain enemy types, but also because you can literally have Charlotte trigger it stand-style for Jonathan to smash things, and best of all, a few of the projectile sub-weapons are time stopped. I can't help but feel it was intended since the games reference JJBA in other ways, Zephyr being the most egregious example.

A Hat in Time literally has a TOKI WO TOMARE mod.

imagine a multiplayer game with big group battles and platforming, and arena shooter or maybe any fps would work, now once every minute time stops for 10 seconds, the players can still move and shoot normally but the projectiles pause, AOE effects like a grenade or flametrower become damage walls, melee still works properly and would have a fleshed out system to reflect that
might be cool.

You mean like Killing Floor? Time slows but it doesn't flat out stop, and you slow down with it.

...

wtf how did that happen

Ever play the specialist? It's a gold source deathmatch game mod with a matrix touch to it that's close enough to what you want.

Has a powereup system where you can slow down everyone on the server for a brief moment (maybe 2 seconds at most) to help you land a better shots on other players.

One of my favorite things about It is a loadout system based on weight where you can do matrix tricks and stunts if you sacrifice weapons and armour for speed and access to more stunts. You could play the entire time with no gear and beat people just by disarming them and beating them to death with just CQC.
Nothing was more fun than jumping all around the place with a pair of SMG's though

What's that one game that lets you slow down time rather than stop it? Eventually you meet enemies that are very fast, and you have to slow down time just to keep up with them. I've been meaning to play that game ever since some user mentioned it in one of these threads.

Please someone should save me from this anime drought I'm experiencing

King Crimson doesn't snap time back, its more like opening movie maker and cutting out 10 seconds of reality. Everything before and after that time frame still happens, but anything that happened within that time frame didn't.
You still get shot, but the reality where you get shot got erased, so you didn't get shot. You still punch some guy, but the reality where you punch the guy got erased, so you didn't punch the guy.
Only Diavolo can influence reality and knows what happened/didn't happen. To everyone else it's like they snapped forward 10 seconds, both in terms of space and time.

There's a few good things airing user, made in abyss, girls last tour, just because, welcome to the ballroom, to name a few good recent ones.
Just gotta filter out the moeshit and waifu bait.

That actually sounds pretty fucking radical.

Made in Abyss was the only good anime you mentioned.

And its ironically waifu bait.

It is.

I'd call a show like food wars or kakegurui waifu bait, not made in abyss. It doesn't shove enough cute girls down your throat to have earned that title.

...

Hating fun is for gays and probably communists as well.

So basically the ending D of Drakengard?

Oy vey!

I remember playing an ero game where stopping time and raping enemies was a key mechanic.

sopa de gorilla… uma delicia

Timeshift is fantastic in that one part near the beginning where you have a shootout in one room. Everything else is bad, especially fighting outside. Cool weapons though.

Fine by me.
It would be equal of laying on a coach and thinking about random stuff for eternity. it will be kinda pain in the ass to not have your own resources to remind you of stuff you forgotten but well whatever.

And now I need to finish Drakengard.

Play a Hat in Time

A puzzle game.

fug

You can if it's a porn game.

Passable taste.

...

You still suffer the consequences, though. There will be a bullet hole in your chest, it's just that the moment it entered your chest didn't happen. The only reason Diavolo has any advantage with it is because he can see what's going to happen in that short moment and plan his actions around what he sees. If he would have been attacked in the cut portion of time, he'll see that and be able to dodge it.

There'll be mod support for the gog release, too. It's only workshop exclusive right now, while modding is still a wip feature.

That only slows time, so its technically not a time stop. Same with , though it slows time so much it's as close to stopped as the game can allow.

What happens to you and the people around you at 8:31?

Time resumes as normal, but you're erased from existence for causing a paradox.

It really depends on the physics and rules of time stop in the universe, and because time stop is impossible with current physics and technology we will never know.

the people continue on like normal- the entire point of time stop is that it happens instantly.
you on the other hand will spend a infinite amount of time in a short span, rendering you utterly and completely retarded.

King Crimson's ability is actually rather simple.
The "time erasing" is a meme description, not accurate and makes it seem more complex than it is.
He has Epitaph, lets him see about 10 seconds into the future.
Then King Crimsons main ability, to make a void into the minds of people around him minds that lasts about ten seconds. During which they do exactly what Epitaph predicts. During that "void" Diavolo and King Crimson can act at will, and no one will notice or depart from the actions and results predicted by epitaph.
As such, Diavolo can't harm anyone while his stand's ability is active, but can escape harm and position himself to harm others.
To put it simply, it's a mix of "Future Sight" and "Perception Manipulation".
"Erasing Time" is only from the viewpoint of the people affected by his stand's ability.

Depends on when he stops erasing time, if you get shot and time is still being erased, it'll be as if it never even happened at all.

Its not a meme description because erasing time is literally what the stand does. Voiding peoples minds isn't a bad way of describing it initially, but it's ultimately flawed because it doesn't properly describe the stand.

There are many, many games that let you stop time. Castlevania comes to mind.
You just made this thread because you just finished watching your
little meme anime.

Name them. Castlevania was already mentioned, as well as dishonored, time shift, and fear.
