*Mounting got added
in 4, 4u, ledges were added to maps and you can run off of them or do an attack off of them while you're in the air, and if you hit a monster in the right spot, it'll make a big yellow slash effect on them

enough of those, and youll trigger a mounting minigame where you have to alternate between stabbing the monster with your hunting knife and holding on while it bucks - if you're successful, you'll topple the monster for a bit for free attacks

*New weapons
insect glaive - like dual swords, but you can send an insect to hit certain body parts for buffs, allows your to launch yourself

chargeblade - a mix between SnS and switchaxe, you can alternate between them, has some sick fucking combos if you use it right

*Styles
in generations, styles were added like striker guild aerial and adept, there are hunter arts which buff your hunter or let you perform special attacks on press

adept is my favorite, basically if you dodge into any part of a damaging hitbox (including an ally's) youll do this sick flip through the air, tons of free iframes and you do damage through the dodge in certain weapons modes (ds archdemon/demon) or you can follow up with a nice damaging combo, 1 hunter art

striker lets you use up to 3 hunter arts at the cost of some combos/modes

guild is like 4u and 3u, default combos, 2 hunter arts

aerial replaces your front roll with a little hop, if you hit a monster or player with it, you launch yourself in the air, you can perform beautiful comobs and get free mounts through it
its a little cheesy tho

*frenzy virus
some monsters have this frenzy virus that can infect you with damage, when you get afflicted with frenzy, a bar starts filling up on your player, if it fills all the way, you take 2x more damage basically, and your natural healing is disabled, this lasts for a good while
you can overcome the frenzy while its incubating by dealing enough hits, this increases your affinity for a short while and gives you short immunity to frenzy

*bleed
some monsters can create some pretty awful lacerations which cause bleed effect, this makes you bleed out if you roll or run, you can heal by crouching for a while or eating jerky/steak

*armor slots/weaponforging
huge balance in weapon forging, you now level up weapons, its weird but it balances everything too well imo

*palicoes/prowlers
you can play as a palico
