You don't need much to kill scientists and security guards. 9-10mm is good enough.

They wear urban camo outfits, which combined with CQC weapons indicates that their unit is built around urban combat

Because it was the 90's little boy.

Is that Adrian Shepard or just a regular HECU Marine?

They have M16A2s in the HD model pack.

Presumably a regular marine because Shepard has little to do with Freeman

But the MP5 is a bottom-tier choice for urban warfare. 9x19 is not barrier blind in the slightest, and is completely defeated by armor. A 5.56 SBR would be better in every way. The real reason they have MP5s is because left-coast cucks know nothing about guns, and they though the MP5 looked neat.

Right, they don't know and they don't care. Just like most people. Go shoot some squirrels, Cletus.

I wish I had your thousands of hours of experience in urban warfare

GO, RECON!

STAY ALERT PEOPLE.

There's no need to get pissy because you made a dumb comment, my dude.

user, these are the dumb liberals that thought the mag tube on a shotgun was a second barrel. They didn't give them that ludicrous loadout because "their unit is built around urban combat", but because they don't know shit about about firearms. That is the real answer to OP's question.

Probably because the pistol would have been made useless if the designated rapid-fire weapon had different ammo.

Also, HL1 had very classic FPS design with somewhat bullet-spongey enemies in general.

No shit that's the answer, god forbid someone try to discuss a possible canonical reason though because your 'tism won't allow it.

In 9mm :^)

because the developers/writers were fucking retarded and no one gave a shit.
retardation, getting knowledge from action movies. case closed

Your autism refuses to let this happen, you are dedicated

You don't need experience in urban warfare to know that a submachinegun is not the best choice. Urban warfare doesn't mean just clearing rooms.

Wow user you're so knowledgeable about combat it really makes my panties wet.

Because you're not playing with the HiRes Weapon pack.
Then again 50 bullets in a regular straight M4 magazine isn't much better

>>>Holla Forums

You would be euthanized as a mercy killing under Aktion T4

Autists are Jew-made replicants to spy on goyim.

Because 9mm is the best possible choice for close combat and its more than enough

Because the devs were nofun retards and had no idea how a top-secret Black ops unit specialized in operating under hazardous and SHTF situations would actually look like.
They gave them the most generic gear and equipment they could find with a quick search on the internet and called it a day.
Pic related what they would most likely look like

There was no reason for this thread.

That's a funny way to spell 5.7Ă—28mm

Are you seriously getting angry just because someone knows something about a topic more than you do?

...

it was 1998

I have yet to see a single instance of rights been defended with guns. Every single time the government moved against the people, most of the populace agreed to submit, and those who didn't ultimately sat on their guns without lifting a finger.

I guess it's good to pretend you actually could rise, if you had balls.

every revolution, liberation and uprising ever you dumb oaf

Oh, thanks for the daily dose of cancer.

I wouldn't say every.

Most revolutions are not in self-defense, but violent ones in the name of a certain ideology.

what? you cant even have one without weapons, you will be destroyed by the authorities!

Prepare to say the same for the next 50 years, while those who change things without the need of guns, have been running circles around you for the whole of your life.

Your problem is that you're reliant on guns, to do politics. But using them would cause a crisis, so you inevitably do nothing.

shut the fuck up ideologue

God damn he sounds like a faggot.

Because devs don't know shit and or care that much about guns and neither do the vast majority of players.

They just used it because its an easily recognisable gun thats been in a lot of movies and such.

Except HECU was not black ops, they were the disaster containment who did not really expect to be fighting monsters, they were sent in to kill the facility staff. Why is everybody forgetting about the actual black ops? These were the dudes that were sent in to eliminate everything (including the HECU pawns) and nuke the place.

The marines were already black ops, so I guess the black ops were like blacker ops or darker than black ops.

Because the fuckers here born after 2000's and their first game was Half-Life 2.

The marines were not black ops, they were pawns of the black ops. I just said this in my previous post, learn to fucking read nigger.

...

It's a problem with player centric design. All the guns the enemies are using must also be useable by the player, but they didn't want the player to have redundancy in his arsenal.

They were still special operators trained for fighting in hazardous environments. They would never be equipped with average infantry gear and 9mm SMGs.

Then what stopped the devs from just introducing a new weapon and completely abandoning the old one? Surely going from MP5 to, say, P-90 would feel like an upgrade. Especially if fish gun is actually stronger.

This. All the HECU knew was that they were going to be killing scientist and minimally trained security guards. Hell they probably were just gonna round them up and shoot them, they didn't expect the Xen attack.

But that HD pack replaces their MP5s with M4s and Opposing Force shows they were actually pretty well equipped with spas-12s, M249s and other shit. The situation just got too out of hand for them to get a proper hold.

More importantly where the hell does this gun shoot grenades from?

The HECU were the cannon fodder and distraction, Black Mesa was marked for nuking but detonating a nuke to cover up an alien invasion falls at least into the realm of black ops. The G-Man had something to do with it, as well, he re-arms the nuke after all.

It doesn't. The grenades are fired from your floating camera and not the gun. Valve sure knows how to make video games.

What a fucking retard, you do know that autist =/= retarded and completely unfunctioning, correct?

Weren't the Black Ops only called it when it was obvious the HECU fucked up on the mission? I don't think the nuke was planned until they realized how bad the Black Mesa situation was.

...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Athens_(1946)

Valve fucked up to be quite honest

IIRC it has a second barrel under it, which is funny because Gordon shoots SMG grenades from his mouth in HL2. Too bad the MP7 is so inferior to the HL1 MP5 in feel, looks, and sound design that it's not even funny. Also, the pistol in HL2 is complete dogshit unlike the glock which did at least reasonable damage and had the highest non-crossbow range out of any other gun, giving it at least some use later in the game compared to none in HL2.

You're like those commies who think they'll be a card-carrying member, "I'm special because I was a part of the revolution before it happened!" Once again, you would be euthanized with all of the other undesirables.

Because devs are usually numale libshits and these faggots don't know anything about guns.

REMEMBER ANONS, TIT BONES

Half Life 2 had a lot of cut guns. Including updated Half Life 1 MP5 and AK-47

No, the MP5K was the one that was going to be used in HL2, meanwhile the MP5 used in HL1 is an MP5A3 (or, the worldmodel is at least.)

Moreover, the OICW was going to be included in the game which could actually fire grenades, the SMG was supposed to burst fire instead. Instead they did something completely fucking retarded and gave the MP7 the ability to fire grenades but added a barrel underneath so it's apparently okay, then they removed the OICW for some godforsaken reason then replaced it with a gun model that was a fucking upgraded flare gun that barely resembles a rifle

...

Shut the fuck up with your facts that prove that rednecks in this thread know less than some retards in Washington who've never seen a gun in their life

Will there ever be a mod that takes advantage of Half-Life's rich AI to put the "life" back in Half-Life? Shaft and Hard-Life might be close.

There's a mod that makes the HL2 A.I. not complete dogshit. They become more accurate and actually work as a squad (i.e. flanking you from different sides at the same time.) With this mod installed, they are truly dynamic

moddb.com/mods/badass-combine

It's funny you mention HL1 A.I. though, because it doesn't have rich A.I. Every single sequence is heavily scripted and therefore cannot be dynamic like you want. If you were to place HECU marines in a custom made map they would be even less intelligent than HL2 soldiers, not to mention other enemies don't have good A.I. either (zombies randomly face different directions while fighting you for no reason, so do headcrabs.)

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. I meant HL1's ability to fake rich AI.

I'm getting real sick of everyone ragging on the pulse rifle. I don't like the decision to cut down on weapon variety either, but the AR2 actually adds some much needed alien tech to an arsenal that consists primarily of stolen human designs.

The OICW looks pretty retarded anyway.

Oh and the sights aren't even aligned.

Who the fuck designed this?

Where's the other one?

It doesn't really take much to just straight up google why certain guns are favored for urban combat. It really is readily explained in easy to understand terms, and if you ask nicely you'll even get the math hammered out for you.

I think the biggest failure of that weapon is that Valve was so fucking lazy that they didn't bother to address a really obvious issue with the first person view model making it appear to be wielded one handed.

...

Except the HECU isn't a fucking urban combat unit. Their job is to do nothing but clear rooms.

No, it was because the creator of CS was left-handed. He was just lazy and decided to mirror the left-handed viewmodels rather than make proper right-handed ones.

This was 1998.

I never got to pick up that silencer the black ops has user. And assuming it's the same gun I couldn't pick up extra ammo from it which makes no sense.

Clear rooms at a black site, for all they know there is heavily armed security they don't know about. The equipment they have is inadequate for the job.

Its not like Black Mesa was building metal gears, they weren't expecting heavy resistance from a bunch of science nerds. Either that or Gman somehow made them come somewhat unprepared so they wouldn't interfere with Gordon's trial by just mowing down him and/or the Xen things.

you can't even look through the rear aperture. the carry handle blocks it. also, I don't even see a front sight post.

forgot my flag was on

The HECU was created specifically to clean up any potential disaster at Black Mesa, a government-funded facility. Nothing about Black Mesa was a secret to them.

The military went into a complex where the most heavily armored thing they were expecting would be security guards with low-tier kevlar vests that are really only meant to stop knives and low calibre handguns. Their choice in firearm is fine, stop being autistic.

t-thanks Gearbox

But why?

In OpFor their Boot camp training is specialised in Urban warfare

Fucking hate this thing fam

Looks derpy, sounds terrible and reload animation makes no fucking sense. I get that they were going for the combining alien and earth weapon look, but goddamn…

Any pretense of realism for the HECU Marines is moot when you consider they are wearing power armour and "boot camp" involves putting the armour on and getting shot as an example.
Consider for a moment the Iranian Embassy siege that was broadcast all over the world, and look what weapons take center stage. It cemented in pop culture the idea that real operators use MP5s, and gave us the SAS model in Counter Strike.

If they wanted alien tech, they could've added a fucking laser gun or something.

Just about the only unique thing about the pulse rifle is that it fires insta-vaporize energy balls that bounce off solid surfaces. That's a pretty cool addition to what is otherwise basically another machine gun.

For what purpose?

Maximum tactical

It wasn't thing back then.

Mus'tve sucked having to go around in those gas masks and doing some real operator shit

Why is there a scope on a submarine gun? People on /k/ make fun or escape from New York for that shit. imfdb.org/wiki/Escape_from_New_York#Submachine_Guns

Shed a tear for Cpl Sheppard who ran through all of Black Mesa while wearing a gas mask. While the rest of his platoon were lifting erry day, Sheppard was all about the cardio.

Trips checked for the unsung hero of Black Mesa.

while few SBRs there were plenty of AR carbines, such as the model 733, model 609, CAR-15, etc
