Past that point, it's harder to earn more money without devoting large amounts of time and effort to your work, which necessarily removes personal time from your life.

It's why the mythical "wage gap" between men and women exists. Women reach a point where they work enough to cover their expenses and have a little play money left over, and stop right there, generally. Honestly, most men do as well. Because past that point the only people who gain satisfaction from working more are either A) extremely competitive people whose goal it is to have a bigger number in their bank account than their neighbors or B) people engaged in work that they seriously love and would choose to do even if not getting paid for it.

It just so happens that men, generally, are more competitive than women (thus fulfilling criteria A more often) and also generally care more about things/ideas than they do social interaction (thus fulfilling criteria B more often).
