Why should I play it?

it's a multiplayer peasant simulator, there are a ton of skills and professions, and everything except for what the admins make is player-created
unlimited is an offshoot of the main game, wurm online, which is actually an MMO but has a subscription system like EVE's, while unlimited uses dedicated servers hosted by players and you only have to pay for it once

It was made a game made by Notch before he started working on Minecraft. Minecraft has a lot of DNA from Wurm, though Wurm has significantly more breadth and depth when it comes it mechanics outside of building. It's more like a virtual world where you live and work with other people.

I very nearly got started on the pirate server but lost steam (not that kind), got caught up in other things and didn't go back kind of got an itch for it now.

Did drama occur last time then?

We had a couple of servers, but they never work out. There's one consistent public server and we quickly became the most powerful group on the map, but there's a love-hate relationship between us and the admin.

I'm in the no camp when it comes to user servers because they are simply not as reliable and have killed the game twice. I stopped playing before Brohan, so I can only assume it was something to do with it being publicly advertised or underfunded.

our last server, brohan, was mostly drama-free, the most we had was a feud with 4chan's kingdom
i think the drama he's talking about was WRC, which was a shitshow run by incompetent admins

My biggest issue with Wurm is that whenever we as a group play, we often end up absolutely steamrolling anyone and everyone to the point where the only factions left are usually a couple autistic chucklefucks with ties to the server moderators who, despite using every dirty trick available, STILL get force-fucked by our collective might time and time again.

Well, when WRC accidentally nuked the first map and caused the Great Exodus, that was pretty bad. Broschwitz was mostly drama-free unless some fag would go deforesting.

we just bulldozed everything and epic made all investment meaningless when people who knew how to grind could max a profession in a day
shit was slowing down because of this before we raided babylon, but with the pvp element completely gone after the raid everyone just eventually left

admins were fine on brohan. 4chan was ok on brohan. stragglers from other internet corners were ok. the community was absolutely ok on brohan but there was just a couple missteps and now wurm-out means there will have to be an extended wait for another server.
although, with this sale, there's a possibility that since a server could possibly be legit that means advertising on official wurm forums could be a thing which could mean a more stable population baseline.

after the last run I got thinking how much this game would benefit from a massive tailored map with all kinds of secrets but i dont know how feasible that is since i dunno how robust the mapping tools are. setting up that sort of thing seems like it'd be really fun.

Unfortunately despite the game having this issue ever since Brotopia like nearly a decade ago, Rolf still hasn't balanced the game for groups of 30+ people just jumping on and making the game their bitch in a week.

this is one of the things i'm hoping can change if we jump on buyfag servers
if the server population's large enough we'll be outnumbered and can't just rest on being better than everyone else
if we really want a challenge i think there are a few russian servers

Yeah, WRC was probably a mistake but Brosmouth was worth it.

This is an issue,a good handfull of user's quit due to feeling like they weren't needed,this was exacerbated with ebin which made specialization not worth it anymore and you could easily grind whatever skill you chose to to top levels,what i also noticed is that after the initial week or 2,bitching starts to occur between oldfags and new regarding wastefullness of mats,people acting like its virtual India where you can dump whatever wherever and disregard properly labeled storage facilities because they can't be fucked to not be a neet online aswell,other then a few hiccups here and there Brohan was the most fun i had in a good longtime,the beginning of the settlement were the best days imo

This sort of attitude led to me hoarding anything and everything I harvested that was of any value whatsoever. I didn't want materials I'd gathered and might at some point want to use myself immediately vanishing behind a 12-wall deep storage bunker located 4 miles below the earth's crust, all because someone who logged on for half an hour every 2 months was our best blacksmith/leather worker/alchemist etc. and it'd be a waste if we let anyone else touch those materials.

I cracked the server so we could host for piratefags, then I started a demon invasion. Server owner decided the fire wasn't going to rise. Sadness. That was like a year ago.

Brohan started up like a week after someone from here made a server. They convinced him to shut it down and make everyone move to their server but a bunch of people just quit instead. Literally no Holla Forums server has been without drama about moving servers.

You know what would make it so much more tolerable? If you didn't have to invest so much into constructing something and lose all the resources and time when you inevitibly knocked it down. This game is nothing but grinding, and the only way to have any fun is the time-tested HOTS tradition of bots. I miss the towns, I miss some of you lads, but at a certain point it always comes down to an unacceptable trade-off for time invested. That's why nobody ever stuck around. I enjoyed farming, I enjoyed terraforming, but what's the point when everyone else has fucked off because the game gave them no reason to stay?

Yeah to me it feels like to make it a bit more engaging it requires a big map with all kinds of custom shit to do and customized timers for skills so making stuff isn't such a chore.
A nice balance between building speed and XP gains would be neat. I dunno how feasible any of this is with the tools available.

Yeah you can still do that. A buddy and I once made a row and sailed 9 hours straight across the 8k map because the land around spawn was fucked. Ended up at a giant steppe with oak, cedar, and maple forests around.

There is no Holla Forums server at the moment and there probably wont be for a little while, probably until the new year at the earliest. If you want to play in the meantime then try joining one of the bigger servers and making a village on it.

Sklotopolis has had like 40-70 people the past couple days. I was considering Mythmoor as well but I dunno with those XP rates professions would be meaningless. I just wanna get comfy long term on a server and ply my trade instead of blowing through everything in a week.

I don't see a problem with this. I don't think any of the "bro" towns would violate this. Something like "KILLALLNIGGERS" of course would.
What's more troubling is they don't allow macros, and strangely enough they didn't say anything about having multiple clients running.

Novus launched 10 days ago and is their new server. It shows in the launcher but you're not supposed to connect to it. It's part of the Sklotopolis cluster. I guess when I start playing later tonight that's where I will head.
