Red Alert will be 21 years old this month
Red Alert 2 will be 17 years old this month
Red Alert 3 will be 9 years old this month

How does that make you feel anons?

Wait, RA3 is seriously almost 9 years old? My memory must be getting worse with age, I thought it wasn't as old as this.

Aye it is. Maybe you are just getting old user?

Just rage

Jesus thanks for pointing that out, now I feel old too. Also saw a friend play that recently, it's like they saw the ridiculous silly of Red Alert 2 and tried that, but married it to an utterly sub-par RTS, and one that doesn't even trust you to play by having another AI controlled player help you out. Also cluttered visuals and ridiculous units. Probably more I could rattle off if I saw more of it.

MY LIFE FOR MASTER LOLI!

C&C game night when?

Anyone else exciting for this> coming out never ever

I thought it got released ages ago? Or are they updating it? Wish we got that Cryengine C&C game an autist was developing, it looked good

We need a mod that merges The first two into one and then increases the number of players per map to 20 or 30. Or maybe a STALKER mod where you go around abandoned cities and tiberium fields fighting mutants and either GDI or Nod, depending on who you side with.

That was going to be the C&C MMO

When we make Holla Forums whole again!

Angry because EA took 8 years to make RA3 and still managed to fuck it all up

I've been playing Mental Omega campaign missions recently and I can't get over the fact that so few RTS games in the past 17 years were able to reach this level of quality. Off the top of my head the only post-RA2 RTS game that I felt was up to par was the first Company of Heroes.

You mean the trial-and-error bullshit or the actually fun and well-thought out ones with actual basebuilding? Cause i recall half the Allied campaing being
or
Or the fucking black forest escort mission, fuck that shiiiiittttt.

I've been playing the Yuri missions, most of which are plagued by the same sort of bullshit you're talking about, but the basebuilding ones are pretty good. There are a few non-basebuilding missions that are well-designed but they're exceptions to the rule.

Honestly i found the Russian campaing, barring Episode 2, to be in overal better than Epsilon or Allied. Mostly because of LatinConfed missions minus The Alamo, that is.
One thing that i find about MO that redeems all the shit mentioned previously would be the CoOp campaings, since most of them either give you actual bases or a big enough squad that you aren't in any actual danger of having them die instantly to some bullshit placed behind the FoW. They're actually quite fun to play and are expansive and packed with action all the way through.

I don't think any RTS would work for a game night. C&C Renegade, on the other hand…
Can you still run classic Renegade? Renegade X was neat but something about it felt "off" compared to the original. The hit detection was the worst I've seen in any online FPS.

C&C Renegade supports for 32v32 players and more and is still quite active despite its age, with usual 20v20 skirmishes at highprime time saturday on Rencorner/Marathon. The only problems would be server hosting and distributing a pirate pack for the game.

Fuck, Red Alert 1 took my gaming virginity. I didn't know what I was doing half the time but I had a blast regardless. Back then, I haven't even understood English language so every game had that mysterious vibe to me.

Twisted Insurrection suffers from the same issues. Seriously what is it with modders thinking that Commando missions are the best thing since sliced bread?

The Red Alert and Tiberian Sun mods for the game are standalone.

Awesome, I loved Renegade. I'll look into it this weekend, I might be able to host sometime.

tanya a qt

Renegade has not aged well.

You haven't aged well.

I dropped the Soviet campaign at the Alamo mission because I got tired of having to micro Morales around a bunch of dogs I couldn't see, especially since his rifle takes like three minutes to reload

It would honestly have been so much better if you had a small squadron of teslatroops or pyros flown in along Morales. He's the only Commando unit in the mod that's subceptible to human/dog wave tactics despite the faction that he comes from, he's basically balanced around that fact since he's primairly a long-range anti-tank/building unit, rather than a anti-infantry one. Which is okay, because Soviets never usually have that kind of firepower and even less l.confed which gets outranged and outgunned in every equal-resources tank engagement there can ever be in multiplayer, specially since Buratinos suck so much dick at their role when compared to the alternatives.

However, sending him on a ridge plagued with a thousand dogs with nothing to save from except his rifle? It is the epitome of idiocy and whoever designed the map should kill himself. It dissapointed me because it actually looked like an actual basebuilding map out of the box but theeeen you're stuck with microing Morales and checking every 5 minutes to see if your MCV hasn't been airstriked/warhawked to oblivion by units bypassing your defenses, it's just plain tedious and boring.

We need a Hentai mod for a C&C game.

Then go and make it, Dubsman. Or pay the Japs to do it for you.

I've been meaning to get into C&C for years now but never got around to it.
How should I start guys? Play them all from order of release or are there ones that should be skipped?

holy fucking shit this
You can't just put a group of units/defences to guard something in this game and go micromanage something else, they will get overrun in seconds by fucking infinite spam AI bullshit.

IN THE NAME OF BANE!

that's why you play online, playing rts offline is lame.

Kane lives in death. C&C4 was a GDI smear campaign.

The GDI hotheads sought to destroy me, but they have only made the fire stronger!

I wish I'd had the foresight to order some of this shit back when Westwood was alive.

...

Play them all except C&C4, you can get the first two for free (legally) with fanpatches installed on C&Cnet.

playing against ai sucks, what is the point of outplaying a computer in a strategy game?

...

...

...

...

The first three. C&C95, Red Alert and Tiberian Sun are all freeware. cncnet.org/

Since the series was bought by EA, consider pirating the rest, you won't be paying the actual devs if you buy the last decade collection, C&C3 or Generals on Origin. You're better off buying a game from Petroglyph like Grey Goo or sending a mail letter to Frank K. instead if you're into that sort of thing.

As a sidenote, some people say RA3 is a black sheep in the Red Alert family of games, the same way C&C4 is for the tiberium series. Mostly because of its art style, the micromanagement hell with all the deployable units, the terrible forced-coop campaing and the lore rape implied with soviets somehow adquiring a chronosphere and killing eistein despite losing two world wars, yet allies still having it as a super weapon.
Even so, it's still a fun game and although not as good as RA2, it's not bad to try it out after you're done with the rest of the games.

...

...

Oh, wasn't aware it was all three. That's nice.

C&C Shitposting Tournament when?

Speaking of this, how long til fans revive the series? Fangames are the hot new thing now, so where's my dedicated C&C fans to make a badass new title to rival the best of the official titles?

Really dropping the ball here, C&C fans.

There are mods that are pretty damn good at expanding the series such as Twisted Insurrection, but i believe they can't make an actual new C&C game because of EA's grip on copyrights. Maybe if an entirely new setting is formulated with very similar mechanics, but then you lose the charm of having GDI and Nod beat the shit out of eachother for world domination.

Also i believe Petroglyph already attempted this with the 8-bit armies series, but there's almost no story to it, the artstyle is indieshit and it kinda had a multiplayer focus too.

When we all agree that GDI did nothing wrong.

AK-47's FOR EVERYONE!

So where are all the CnC mods being stashed anyways? There is a bunch of overhauls I always wanted to try out.

...

You need to leave. Clearly you have no appeciation for RTS.

GDI did everything wrong though.
From being unable to supress media when they know that Nod controls it, to having a terrible infantry and artillery doctrines that extends to abusing tanks and aircraft, to being the sole reason on why Nod even has nuke capabilities and being left behind with a super weapon that takes too long to recharge to be of any use except singular targets and so on. They couldn't even protect Germany from Nod encirclement until the Commander decides to stomp around and wreck shit in there.

Does anyone even play online anymore?
I know there's a lobby in cncnet for C&C95 but last time i saw it was either only modded survival maps with a thousand waves of mammoths or russians kicking everyone who wasn't part of their group.
I don't even want to suggest TS because of mammothMk2/disruptor carryall and bomberspam bullshit and Nod being so terrible at anything that isn't buggie+artispam, unless there's a certain mod to use here?
OpenRA is obviously out of the question because of their retarded engineer nerfs and soviet yakspam meta.

wew

AoE>>>>>>>>>>>CoC

fuck off castle rusher

GDI is a fucking joke though, their only real accomplishment is not getting completely curb-stomped by Nod.

...

Nod are Serbs
GDI are Kebab
Go figure.

It's the other way around though. And you forgot about Forgotten, who are Albanians.

Wew.

Forgotten are cleary gypsies

...

Found full version of OP's image. What amazes me is this goes from having decent taste to shit taste rather quickly.

Gulf/Vietnam war atmosphere with media propaganda.
Industrial techno/electric funky music. The game just oozes 90's.

GDI campaign has you liberating Europe, with the final battle in Sarajevo and the destruction of the Temple of Nod, killing Kane.

Nod campaign has you taking over Africa. The campaign ends with hijacking the GDI Ion cannon and using it against one of four western landmarks (Eiffel Tower, the White House, Brandenburg Gate, or Houses of Parliament) to be vapourized by the Ion Cannon strike, dealing a crippling blow to GDI's image and capability.

Prequel of Tiberian Dawn (C&C95).

WW2 on steroids. Einstein creates a time machine to go back in time to kill Hitler, only to create a far worse situation as the Soviets grow unopposed and steamroll Europe. More great and orgasmic soundtrack, arguably the greatest music in the C&C franchise. Because of Einstein meddling with time, WW2 now has helicopters, GPS and all sorts of late and sci-fi technology.

Allies are Europeans - no Americans in the game.
Stalin dies no matter what campaign you play. He either gets found in the rubble by the end of the Allied campaign, or he gets poisoned and usurped by Kane at the end of the Soviet campaign.

This game is a huge "Fuck You" to both Holla Forums and Holla Forums, love it.

I especially like the commando missions in the first 2 games, or just a handful of units (and no base) to make do. It's some covert operations shit.

Sequel to Tiberian Dawn, post-apocalyptic world. Tiberium encroached all over the world, dark, gritty, edgy and ambient music. Best live cutscenes in the franchise, with great acting and a deep plot that really sets GDI and Nod apart.

The last good C&C game until EA killed off Westwood and tarnished the franchise by making mediocre (Generals) or steaming piles of garbage (RA3/TW/TT) games.

Sequel to Red Alert, set in an alternate timeline (Tiberian Dawn is the canon sequel to Red Alert).
West installs a Soviet puppet to keep them in check, puppet turns against them and invades America by complete surprise, from all sides. The intro is fucking amazing and it blew my mind as a kid.

Different from RA1 in that it's extremely cheesy and self-aware as opposed to gritty and dark, but it pulls it off well. If Advance Wars was an RTS. Many original and unique units, concepts and ideas. The music is generic and the cheesy acting is sometimes cringe, but the gameplay is fantastic.

This game is pure fun and entertainment, and a good ending to C&C.

Pretty much this
But i would argue that Generals still is somewhat decent and kane wrath is not that bad

[cont]

RA2 > TS > RA > TD

RA > TD > TS > RA2
Frank Klepacki is a fucking god.

TS > TD > RA > RA2

RA2 = TS > TD > RA
TD went for photorealism, liked that better than the goofy giant infantry look in RA1.

Generals is a good RTS game on its own, but it's not a C&C game.
Shares nothing with the RA or Tiberian universe and introduced completely different gameplay mechanics and elements.

It basically didn't need the C&C title slapped on it, EA just did it because muh brand.

Generals came out during the "War on Terror" Bush era and Iraq war, making use of current political events to sell the game. The stereotypes are over the top and funny though, gotta give it that.

...

...

Tbh i wish OpenRa devs would bring all the C&C games to the same level mechanically and modernize them, like add unit tabs, modernize UI etc…
But they are lazy niggers and its not gonna happen in this decade

...

That wouldn't really work.

TD and RA1 run on the same old engine.
TS and RA2 run on the same engine.

Just play the games as intended, and stay away from OpenRA. It's garbage and fucks with unit prices.

Get the freeware games from cnc-comm.com / CnCnet, fully patched and fixed for modern systems.
Only RA2/Yuri's Revenge has to be torrented somewhere.

What the fuck is it with Japan and Kane using a toothbrush?

How about we play some RA2 trough gameranger this weekend?

The Desolator is probably my favorite soviet unit in terms of lines. Though the aloha snackbar truck is also good.

Mine is Tesla trooper

How would the C&Cfags (or RTSfags in general) feel about small and fun tournaments that are held every so often on weekends?

I guess if you like rubbing your shoes in lotion.

Im up for it as long as it is pirate friendly

The RA2 competitive meta was fun to watch.

I liked playing as France because I'm a turtler (deal with it) and liked those huge ass tower turrets.

Agreed, Desolators are so fucking top tier. Especially if they come in blue

Great, not im never going to unhear that and laugh everytime I use mike pence troopers

Of course it would be. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or recommendations please post them over here >>>/radcorp/3121

Last i saw, RA2's engine allowed for way more than what TS's could handle, including being able to spot units behind tall buildings, the interface bar, unit groups and the toggle-use Waypoint system, it din't require that you hold ctrl+alt to set factory dropoff points, etc.

From what i remember of the RA2 meta, it was all spam dogs because they could instakill every infantry unit, are super cheap, fast and can take some tank shots as well because they were technically infantry too, build aircraft as fast as possible as Allied and airstrike the enemy WF/oretruck while spamming tanks or as Soviet spam as many rhino tanks and flaktracks with engies/desolators/terrorists as you could. It was a shitshow because once you leveled a tank to Elite rank, it could instakill nearly every unit or defense it fired upon, barely anyone abused IFVengie rushes but they were still quite effective.

If you're worried about balance other than "dude just spam more tanks", check out Mental Omega. Game's balanced around actual mixted unit compositions and Allied airgame isn't as broken as it used to be.

Dude. No. cncnet.org/yuris-revenge

That's a pretty fuckin nice collection. Seeing all the old boxes really makes me long for a time when videogames weren't shit

I was sort of annoyed that they chose to hop on the 8-bit bandwagon instead of just making a new campy IP

wow man are you one of those centrists you must be really smart and above it all
Also, although it's never explained in any detail, it's probable that a universe without Hitler would still see the rise of fascism, especially given a literal Communist threat to European stability. the only difference is that it would be closer to Francoism or perhaps something like Austria's Fatherland Front, rather than Hitlerian National Socialism

Conservatives are not on the center, so no. I'm not a centrist. I'm on the right. :^)

The real right-wing, not the Holla Forums LARPing "alt-right" aka the extreme fringe.

WHY WHY WHY HWY WHY WHY WHY WHYWHYHYWHYHWYHYWHY

Since this is RTS/C&C thread
New game from Petroglyph announced

Looks bland?

Just like last 2 games Petroglyph released, i have absolutly 0 hope for that game

Honestly yeah. Nothing is worth dying for in this world except maybe your kids if you have them. Not that you should, just die alone. Whats so hard about that?

I've never really wanted to belong to anything and can spot hypocrisy a thousand miles away so no dice Nazis.

At first watching the trailer I thought that it was gonna be another try at that MMORTS they seem to dream about, but it looks like its still a regular RTS which is nice. Normally I'd be somewhat excited for unit customization but unfortunately every time I've seen that done there's always a best combination of unit designs that everyone uses which defeats the purpose.

Heh, they used the same suits as space suits in Firefly.

Sure

Apparently everyone picked from the same warehouse of props back then.

There is actually some truth to that. Pretty much every action movie of the 80's and early 90's used guns from the same warehouse.

Thanks anons, will download the first freeware lot tonight. Cheers!

>had a grin on my face the whole time I played it
Honestly I like all the stupid & campy shit in the single player, like the mission where you have to kill the the Japanese Emperor then he busts out in a mech suit. Not the best C&C game by a long shot but I had fun. The sound track wasn't too bad either.

Well Renegade X happened without a hitch & a bunch of stand-alone mods exist, EA seems to be pretty lax on fan games provided you aren't trying to make money off it.

Most can be found on ModDB.

Oh, really? That's interesting.

Just realised he has a pulse rifle from Aliens

IIRC, the sole reason why the unreal tournament Renegade X mod was even allowed to be completed was because it was assisted by former devs from the EA team that were supposed to make an actual sequel to Renegade– IE the Tiberium FPS that was cancelled because of C&C4 flopping. Otherwise, they even said it would have been C&D' without having that kind of contact with EA.

That said, you're probably not wrong. It could be possible to make an entire C&C fangame with custom assets and an entire new story as long as it's freeware and hopefully open source, too. It's just a matter of having a dedicated team of autists go at it.

Check Klepaki's site.

Westwood used to have a catalog of collectible shit you could order from, there are copies floating around but I never bothered to save one.

I want to like what they are doing, but everything they do seems so uninspired and lacks impact. Even red alert 3, the piece of shit that it is had some residual character left.

Nothing is entirely wrong with the first row, second row gets questionable though.
Atleast she's a enclave fan.
How?

Who all the shittalking aside, Generals is perhaps the best for multiplayer out of any C&C game.

I think you spelled out Yuri Revenge wrong

It just isn't. Zero Hour offers much more variety and options without full on screeching.

While generals is truly fun it tends to run like arse even on modern day rigs. Something about the game engine.

Well they did call it the Sage engine :^)

What?! I tried to forgot that wack game.

What did he mean by this?

You'll be far right in 20 years, user don't worry.
Unless you backpedal like most conservatives.

...

I don't browse Holla Forums, do they unironically like Stalin and Lenin?
lel, imagine Trump being a Russian plant who turns against them and attacks Russia from all sides.

What did he mean by this?

In C&C tech always grows retardedly fast. It's not 1:1 with reality.

Russians actually get to nuke several European cities without any qualms. They also invade Greece, Germany, Austria and Findland, among other countries with little to zero resistance unopposed until the Allies get their shit together. This is on both campings.
The fight is also much worse than actual WW2. The advance in tech being so ridiculeous that they manage to produce, en mass, Tesla Coils which instantly fries tanks and their crews in a single ZAP, flamethrower/napalm is widespead in its use without any sanctions, russians still employing human wave tactics against entrenched Pillboxes or Artillery battalions except they do it on every single engagement, etc.

If you truly want balance just try out Mental Omega. Nearly every unit is useful to have and use in one way or another and Yuri is actually balanced against Allied and Soviet factions now, they also don't have ranged no-cost repeatable engineer Yuri that can capture buildings as a Commando anymore. Just consider banning foehnfags and their starcraft infantry spam fetishism.

...

How can fags fail so hard against Chairforce General? He is literally one of the weakest Generals in the game who can be rushed so fucking hard and easily.

NO NO NO NO MERCY

GENTLEMAN ITS A NUCLEAR DEVICE

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO ACT IF WE WANT TO LIVE IN A DIFFERENT WORLD

T-T-TIE-TIE-TIME IS RUNNING OUT

The new one ain't bad either. It just lacks vocals.

Ok kid.

Kirov reporting.

There was a Red Alert collector's edition that I bought when I was a kid and had spare money from a Christmas.
It came in a silver-grey box with a way-oversized Large t-shirt for size 10 me, the music from Red Alert and maybe Counterstrike.

I remember getting confused as fuck when everyone started raving about Counterstrike about a year later.

But that's a real fucking neato collection.

Yup, wish I could remember the name of it though. Looking for it now all you get is links to gunlaws and imfdb. Probablly would be able to find it if you looked at the credits of each movie. Remember kids, this is why you should save and archive everything

They're $50 each and can still kill GIs and initiates easily. Plus, they're supposed to be used in tank/flaktrack formations where they soak up rounds like it's nothing.
Just pair three of them behind your Jaguars and you're golden in any tank engagement that doesn't have to deal with Chinese or Last Bastion bullshit.
I mean, asides from spamming dogs, which costs like 200 and die instantly to gatlings. Or suiciding airforce to a wall of gatlings. Fuck gatlings in general. They also outrange adepts and can soak up enough shots from AT infantry to do their standard role perfectly, and are a great bonus to have when you're Pacific Front in a naval map because you then have floating AI.
They're literally floating buggies with laser shotguns that can't be mindcontrolled, what else can you ask for?
They also count as infantry tanks because if one of them dies, every other one heals from its acid cloud.

Other version of the pulse rifle is from Space:Above and Beyond

Do you still have it aon?

china wheel grow largur

I am guessing you were dumb enough to constantly let the enemy destroy your power

AK-LOLI-SEVENS FOR EVERYONE!

Can we please take a moment to point out how fucking retarded GDI actually is, especially around the time of Tiberian Dawn and Tiberian Sun?
GDI

Meanwhile with Nod

Seriously how are the GDI the winner of any war with Nod? GDI seem to win despite their incompetence?

GDI
NOD

I think that the victor is clear here

Makes me feel like I should go look for my copy of Red Alert.

Yeah they are pretty badass, especially when they are burning up
I think you are confusing divination with becoming an abomination.

In any case, spotted the GDI agent.

NOD terrorist spotted

DOWN WITH GDI!

That was left-handed!

GDI warmonger spotted

Kane Akbar to that brother

Reminder that only Nod cares about victims of GDI aggression!

Does GDI have cute lolis?
No?
Well, that's too bad.

Nod will make anime real.

butt window NOD girl!

Wondering how long till someone remembered her.

Why the Dead Space Armor?

GDI is my favorite because I like my mechs to be bulky and destructive, but NOD is the cooler choice the same way that Nazis are. Unrivaled style and good taste in uniforms.

Because artist is a huge pleb and he decided to draw a generic heavy sci-fi armor instead of putting a little effort

That's because RA3 has that garbage "New Shit" vibe to it. However many years go by, you still think of it as a crappy new cash-in on an old classic.

Should have seen the planned C&C MMO designs

PEACE THROUGH POWER

This makes me SAD

The world would be so much better.

Tiberian

Good goy

So anons, C&C 3 Westwood edition would have had GDI, Nod, Cabal, Forgotten and Scrin as playable factions. How does that make you feel?

Indifferent, playable fractions are one, having interesting story and campaign i another.
i think its good that cabal didnt get included, it had it time, forgoten might have been interesting especially as a 3rd (4th) force in campaign
Generally i would prefer more units, maybe generals system like for generals zh and better story, also not scraping TS units

Gotta get your feet wet, if you can't beat the AI then you're not going to stand a chance against players.

Autism
i loved building pretty bases and huge armies in RA2 in skirmish as a kid

If Tiberian Sun had enough development time, it would have had GDI, Nod, Forgotten and in the expansion Cabal as fully fledged factions each with unique units and strategies, plus a campaing that isn't half-assed to shit. Meanwhile C&C 3 would have been the end of the series instead of [REDACTED].

I'm just dissapointed in the turn of events leading to this. Such wasted potential.

AI is hard to balance. Easiest and dirtiest way is to simply give it infinite resources and shit. They may perform "intended gameplay" with perfect precision but there are often loopholes in AI programming that can be abused or some other cheese tactics like (WC3 example saw it in my recommended once) immediately sending worker to build towers near AI base which AI has hard time removing without heavy losses. In original CnC AI was allegedly non-existant, AI would send units to attack you with paths determined by static scripts. AI would always use Airstrike on your northernmost building. Build a wall with single well-defended opening and AI will attack through it instead of trying to destroy less-defended part of the wall.

I still remember COH2 AI making about 80% of all units and tactics worthless due to the fact they could see through fog of war and stealth units.

Red alert 4?

What, COH 2 AI does that?

Red alert soundtrack is better.

Yes it does. If you utilize any Commanders who's focus is stealth or ambush tactics you are pretty much gimping yourself.

does it continue to do that shit till this day?

Yes
Which is why Spearhead mod is considered essential

Reminder that at some point in your life you may have actually fought against John Cena online.

Triggers me everytime.

The quality of these is really good. Do you have a dl link for the whole soundtrack? Anything from Yuri's Revenge & Firestorm? I mostly have gamerip quality tracks and a few higher quality versions but not all.

Yeah, that's always confused me as well. It was probably filmed before there was any RA3 gameplay footage available.

They used raw trailer footage of C&C3 though

You sound like a nihilist and a hedonist. If you don't have something you'd be willing to die for, you likely have nothing to live for.

I've looked at his site and it seems like it has everything and more, too bad you have to buy it through itunes. Something interesting I guess is that his tiberian sun soundtrack actually lists some tracks I've never heard in the game so thats neat.

something always bothered me.
Were Volkov and his dog (Chitzkoi) robots? or just trained soldiers?

Trained Dog Soldier Robots.

It's the Black Hand Stealth Armor from Renegade, TWD era technology.
cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Stealth_soldier_(Black_Hand)

Volkov was a war veteran converted halfway into a cybernetic enhanced commando due to his injuries. Chitzkoi was full-on robot dog.

This is too cruel. TS & RA2 have such amazing soundtracks and yet there is nobody at all who has ever bothered to upload the newer higher quality versions of the tracks or if they have they're always missing the ones from the expansion. What gives?

Same reason why most versions of the game don't even have cutscenes.

I have a question anons, who is dumber. The Allies or GDI?

The soviets.

Nice analysis, user.

Nice writeup user.

I've seen both of them in t

Any good Halloween maps anons can recommend?
