I agree with you one the models, imagination is what I was getting at with the voices. They had the story modes in the Untold games and they're really just one step away from putting a fully voiced story mode in the next EO, completely killing the tone of the games and the player's ability to use any imagination.

I liked it but lost interest, unlike 1 and 2. There were like… quest missions where you'd have guest characters, I believe controlled by AI. There was also a mechanic where you were sailing around the world getting boat upgrades. Sorry, it's been years. Play it, it wasn't bad, just weird.

It deserved a remake more than most games. The original was a buggy, imbalanced mess and featured tooltips that outright lied about how skills work. Of course it's playable; people played it, but it needed that extra polish to really help it shine.

II was unbalanced too but it's perfectly playable at least. 2U somehow managed to be even worse.

I did everything in the original EO, I don't remember bugs. It got remade 6 years after the original released for a system that could play the original, that's fucking ridiculous. Great game would play it again.

There are things about 3 and 4 that aren't present in 5, this game really feels like a return to the roots - for better or worse.

The lack of an overworld makes it feel less adventurous, and removes the "travel" aspect which was one of my favorite things about 4. There was a certain comfiness to having one party travel around the world seeing different biomes, enemies, ecosystems and so on. It stirred imagination and emphasized the "explorer" part of the fantasy concept. I understand the first two games didn't have this, and not all of this side-content was necessarily loved by the faggot purists, but it made the game more unique, at least to me. The main dungeon itself is more focused now, but at what cost?

Also: floor jump is a convenient feature in theory, but it can have potentially aggravating side effects. In 4, individual dungeons were at most 3 floors deep, meaning that going balls deep without an Ariadne Thread wasn't always a death sentence. To even get that deep you'd have to leg it all the way down.

Now you can jump into a stratum's last floor without a moment's hesitation; but the travel is one-way: A momentary lapse in thought could have you stranded and you might as well restart lest you go about the tedious task of running all the way back to the pole. Floor jump for specific floors also means autowalk is obsolete at best and your time on each floor will be temporary. All of these problems could have been fixed by removing floor jump in favor of geomagnetic poles. Autowalk would be useful again, you wouldn't be able to instantly get stranded at the press of a button, and it would fall in line with earlier entries. The challenge would increase and the potential frustration would decrease. As of now it feels like they weren't thinking and tried to rework a perfectly good system.

Besides those gripes and the severe shortage of flat portraits I'm enjoying myself a lot, and think the game turned out really well.

I liked the overworld stuff mostly as a way of taking a break from the dungeoneering, it keeps things feeling a bit fresher but for me the bulk of the exploratory feel was always in delving deeper and deeper into a single dungeon. That's why I like the way 3 did it, you have an overworld but still only one dungeon, plus sailing is comfy.
For shame. It seems like the artist has been gradually moving away from his loli roots.

Not far enough to know what I like - the Pugilist, Necromancer and Botanist are good. I've got the Dragoon focusing on the Decoy Bunker and the Harbinger focusing on Miasma Armor. We'll see.

I'm running Dragoon/Masurao/Pugilist at front and Warlock/Shaman in back. It's smooth sailing atm.

Rolled a Pugilist and Harbinger for front row, and Rover, Shaman, and Warlock for backrow. Things have been tough so far (I'm only on floor 2) because of the lack of dedicated at-will healing but it's fun. I really like all these classes, but I can't see how they're going to interact very well with each other. I'm hoping like hell that once I "unlock" the next abilities that it all just meshes and comes together, because fuck man. Right now it's 5 ragtag morons with no synergy trying to make it work, and it just aint.

But I wont give up. My autism won't allow me to bench people. This is my people, and they will conquer this fucking tree.

When do you unlock the advanced version of classes? End of 2nd Strata? I'm trying to conserve skill points for it, and it's beginning to make the game tougher.

On 8F now, this game is shaping up to be my favourite in the series. I love that it's straightforward dungeon crawling with no bullshit attached, although I did like sailing and skyship from III and IV respectively since they emphasise the adventuring aspect of the series.


You're not missing anything by skipping the Untold remakes. I only recommend U1 if people haven't played EO1 yet.

If there's ever an EO6, I really hope they have a mix between EO3 and EO4's travel mechanics. EO3's system was nice, but having the sea missions take you straight to the boss felt kinda lackluster. EO4's approach gave a nice sense of freedom, but splitting the game across small, separate dungeons rather than having a giant labyrinth made each dungeon feel like less of an accomplishment. The adventure feels less like a grand trial and more like a string of inconveniences to me. I think the ideal overworld would be a bunch of optional minidungeons separate from Yggdrasil, and each one would end in a miniboss. That gives you the freedom to explore without sacrificing the feeling of scaling a huge labyrinth. I was kinda sad to see that EO5 ditched the overworld entirely. Why establish all these locations outside of Iorys and create this stunning view of the continent if we're only going to spend all our time in one city?

What you could do is have the entire world be Yggdrasil Blame style and have vehicle sections for crossing great distances, like maybe you need a wind sail boat to cross a gap in the branches or something. Integrate both ideas.

I had a similar idea in that I'd like something with a main 30 floor dungeon like 1, 2 and 5 along with sub-dungeons similar to IV's caves. You use some kind of vehicle to travel to sub-dungeons in order to complete certain quests and maybe fight bosses too. I think these ideas would be a good fit for VI if they decide to make it instead of 3U since it will be the last 3DS game.

The sales for the series have been steadily increasing so they probably won't want to stop yet. I did hear that they plan to stop after 6 but I don't know how true that is and even if it is true, high profits might change their mind.

Also ive been meaning to ask, is anyone using the evade fencer at all? Is there any benefit to using one over a paladin in hard mode? I feel as though they're nice for random encounters but would get destroyed by a boss. Im using a support with blind skills to help out with all of his possible skills but i haven't got anything concrete planned.

Well darn. I went with the Shaman for my healing needs, and it's been quite a letdown, let me tell ya. I'm praying to god that the advanced class version will pick it up, because the base sucks shit at actually healing.

Hows the Botanist for healing? Pretty straightforward and braindead, a la Medic?

Yeah pretty much. Ive actually made 2 so far, one therian and the other a brownie and ive got to say its actually pretty straightforward as it goes. Level up skill for single heal and then gain line heal at rank 5. It also has status healing at base with a revival herb skill at rank 3. Not sure which way i want to build her now but i have a feeling going the poison botanist might not be so bad considering you seem to have most of the wanted skills in her base class.

I'm super envious. The shaman is absolute dogshit in comparison. All it has is partywide prayers, with separate atk, def, hit, and ice, fire, volt resistance buffs (that also imbues your physical attacks with the corresponding element.) There's a side passive that you can level, up to 10, that adds a small heal per prayer, but I don't believe it scales awesomely. I've got one value point in it, and each prayer heals about 7-9 hp per cast at the cost of a whopping 15 TP. It's fucking nothing.

I've got some points stockpiled on her, so next time I play I'll dumpstat the heal passive and test how it goes, because that's the only option of health restoration she has so far.

Yeah I wasn't liking the shaman at all when I tried it so i just went botanist and never looked back. Maybe if when I unlock class titles i'll think about using one depending on what it does but for now im sticking to what works. Brownies and Celestrian have some pretty great racial skills too, im thinking of mixing and matching some in my party for some of these, especially game changer.

Not a big fan of the racial skills myself. It's all either union skills (which can fuck off forever), or copy-paste abilities that all the races have, but not in the same order, that add flavor-text shit and small stat-gains. I'm trying my hardest to avoid them, after I got the obligatory mine/chop/take.

I'd rather have just that one more point in whatever ability, then the 5 AGI or whatever some race ability would give. Seems like the better deal.

Hmm I see well if you're interested the Botanist also has another skill that restores hp and tp every time you chop/mine/take (not fishing or hunting) and currently mine is at level 1 and it restores 10hp to 2 tp, so at max level it'll probably be pretty decent as a gimmicky skill to have if you're into that kinda stuff.

Alright, I tested out the Shaman heal passive now. At level 1, Gospel made each prayer restore approximately 8-10 hp on cast. At 5 and 10 it has power spikes, which give you 14-15, and 22-24 respectively.

How accurately can you remake the party from Made in Abyss in EOV?

Shaman healing isn't a problem. They heal the entire party while buffing everyone. Give one the healing knife you find early on and they're good enough for everything I've done so far. A dragoon obviously helps to keep damage down. What does suck is the complete lack of status/bind recovery. Got to carry the items, and those are single target only. Keep in mind that the shaman's defensive buffs reduce the need for healing at all.

The FM soundtrack is a huge disappointment. They just took the default soundtrack and converted it. Just like I predicted they would. The result is nowhere as good as the older soundtracks that were made to be FM music from the beginning. It's like taking a piano song and playing it with instruments that clearly don't work with it.

Shaman or herbalist for girl, shaman works because she's useless on her own but motivates others, also twintails. Probably dragoon for roboboy, tanky with a gun and protects. Furry would be either katana or bow furry, or botanist. I guess you could make a bunny furry with a bow that uses a dog called Mitty

One thing that always bugged me about the first two games was that sidequests gave barely any reward and tended to be quite bland. I'm glad the later games improved them by giving exp and having fewer but more interesting quests.

I beat it on my first try but I was sort of familiar with his attacks. Goddamn Sky Dive hurts, make sure to bind the legs (and head) if you have a binder lads.

I didn't even realize you could stop the Rest heal with head bind until my 6th or 7th attempt. RNG just wasn't in my favor. I haven't played since then, but I'm hopeful, very hopeful, that Mastery will cover some of the glaring holes in my lineup. I pray to God that Herald Shaman will have some decent passive heals.

Hard, truth be told I weathered the sky dives until I realised I could bind the legs. That helped me finished it off before it could kill my entire party.

My biggest problem was lack of DPS, honestly. I've got a Pugilist with One-two punch, so I was able to bind everything fairly successfully, but even with Bolt Prayer and constant Lightning (lvl 5) spam, I just couldn't utilize the bind time to put on the serious hurt.

I guess that's to be expected though when your Reaper has 18 skill points in the bank and the only other DPS is a Wolf Rover working quadruple time on binds/heals/debuffs with a starting pool of 30 tp. It was rough going.

I didn't level up the one-two punch skill, instead leveled up my Thunder Fist. It's so good for DPS especially against thunder weak foes like Hippoglyph. I spammed High Ground and Armor Pierce using my Masurao along with Ruinous Prayer using my Shaman for maximum damage.

I reckon you should've leveled up the Reaper's skills to help out against the Hippoglyph. You could've used the union skill analyze/analysis scope item to check it's weaknesses to aliments and go from there. Then again you made it anyway so I guess you will have an easier time deciding on what master titles to use.

Yeah, I was deliberately holding myself back so that I could have better skill selection come Mastery. I suppose I could have just looked it all up and planned ahead on the wikia or something, but that's for faggots. It only really bit me in the ass whenever I had to fight bosses or FOE, but I made it work. You should level up One-Two by the by. That shit is godly as fuck, especially if you keep it at 4 or 9 for reduced TP costs.

How's your Shaman working out? Did you take it into Herald or the other one?

One-two punch eh? Will give that a shot once I start playing again. Shaman is really solid so far with the small heals and buffs, gonna decide on what master titles to use later since I'm taking a break. The Brouni union skills help out with survivability too.

Seems solid. The shitty Shaman heals seem like they'd work well enough if you've got a Dragoon cutting damage down to nothing, alongside whatever the hell a Masurao does.

I'll let you (and everyone following along at home) know how Herald Shaman works out healing-wise. I've got at least a value point in every healing passive they have. Heal on turn, heal on damage, heal on steps, etc etc, alonside the lifesteal active.

The cestus man doesn't count, he's actually manly. Unlike the rest of the androgynous faggots that make up the male portraits. Yes, like that shaman. Shamans work just fine as healers anyway. Max that passive that gives healing whenever they buff someone, as well as their skill that increases buff speed and reduces TP cost. They have so much TP that they can keep throwing out a buff every turn and still only be halfway empty when everyone else is starting to run out. Carry a few healing items just in case. The biggest problem they have is status, binds and people in need of revival since they can't do anything about that without theriacas or nectars.

You don't want three wraiths out. You're missing out on both the bunkers and the rover's pet.

Don't lie to me, man. I have a shaman as well, and (at the time) enough skill points to throw around. I have tested this. That skill is SHIT. The scaling is so super bad it's not even worth taking outside of a value point. Bad skill. See here 22-25 per cast for 10 skill points? No thank you.

What isn't bad, however, is the Herald Shaman healing. That stuff is quite legit so far. Still doesn't solve the lack of revive, ailment/blind, but as long as you don't get one or two shot, you will be alive and kicking to pick yourself back up. With enough skillpoint investment, you might even be able to get a form of burst heal via lifesteal, as well. I haven't invested enough points into the skill to see just how well it scales, but initial appraisal is good. By doing 70-100 or so damage, it restores around 28-35 hp at level 2. Extremely fast activation speed, maybe even instant.

Finally feel like ive decided on my party roles.

1 dodge fencer, 1 bind cestus and 1 single sword masurao up front, with a warlock and botanist in back line. I'll let you guys know if running around without a dragoon is any worth it

4 you bought DLC to have money more than EXP.
I remember playing through 4 recently and all the last pieces of armor in the game cost extortionate amounts.
I set up a build that allowed me to get macca for every recruitment, max out my begging and bound enemies for max macca each time as ASAP at the cost of skill slots, demon slots and various other bonuses that would be more practical short term.
This was all pre planning to minimax my money throughout the game, and I only had enough to actually buy my way into the fucking store, every piece of armor in that store, not set, piece costed 3 to 6 times as much at the initial buy my way in fee and you had to make that much 3 to 6 times for each piece.
Also if you want anything to actually be worth using this armor on? Better buy more fucking DLC so you can have post game content.
Pic related is my file after finally getting that fucking demonica Armor for 1 million Macca, the only reasonable way was to trigger a quest that made an enemy drop a quest item sellable for 5000 macca and getting around 600 macca per recruit and 900 per full bind right at the end of the game, but good lord never actually finish the quest.

Also for context, the DLC makes you fight demons that just casually drop high macca value items in mass and also give you major riches for binding and recruiting them as soon as Madusa dies which is extremely early in game.

You can heal the entire party every turn for somewhere from half to a third of their health, especially early on where the static amount hasn't started falling off. If that isn't enough for you, you must be doing something pretty fucking stupid. And don't forget that you're reducing all the damage you take thanks to aegis prayer in the first place, which will always go first if you put some points in prayer mastery unless it's a shiny enemy. It's more than enough healing if you have something to reduce the damage you take, be it a dodge fencer or shield dragoon or even a necromancer or rover. You aren't so stupid that you ran in with four glass cannons and started screaming about how the buffer first healer second class can't single handedly keep them alive when they rush in with no regard for defense, are you?

Either way, it worked just fine for me and the only thing that gave me pause until I unlocked the secondary skills was the hippogryph since it does a ton of damage to the whole party. I just had to switch my tactics up for that a bit and play more defensively, and ruinous prayer was a huge boon when it came to both dealing with the attack debuff and breaking its shield.

I'm seeing people saying that it is because it isn't available yet.

Where the fuck are you getting this? I made a level 1 shaman right now just to prove how full of shit you are, and at just two points in gospel she was healing for ~15 hp every time. Half health is an exaggeration but healing for almost a third of someone's health wasn't far off until health started going up faster thanks to the static heal amount.

Either way the point remains that shamans are more than enough to keep a party alive through the game and I've proved it, as have a bunch of other people. You were saying that their healing isn't good enough without the title when it quite clearly is. My gospel estimate was off the mark but it's still good enough. If you couldn't make it work when a bunch of other people have, we can deduce that you just need to git gud. Actually, while I was off the mark, you're just as off the mark yourself.
At just two skill points in the skill it did 50% more than what you posted. As far as tp cost goes, that's assuming you have the prayer skills maxed, and why would you if you can't sustain the tp cost yet? Ruinous and aegis in particular are a waste to upgrade beyond level 9 for essentially the entire game, because all it does is increase the number of turns and what are you even going to do for all those turns? Defend? As well, focus prayer is very cheap and you need to put two points in it to unlock the rest of the tree, so there's a very cheap and quick heal if the only thing you need is the healing effect. It's an entire 1 tp if you have prayer mastery filled and not much costlier if it isn't filled.

I usually keep 2 out with the bunker. With the passives to summon automatically and bring them back to life how won't I become unstoppable?

Let me solve this. The Shaman skill that makes you heal when casting a buff heals you based on two different calculations. One is a static HP restore, the second is a percentage of the person being healed max HP.

Basically, probably had higher leveled characters when he made a level 1 brouni to test it, which means they had more HP, which means they had a bigger percentage heal.

I said two things. The scaling of the ability is shit, and that it's a terrible and inadequate source of heal, specifically around the 7th-10th floor and especially against the Hippogryph. One of these is inarguably true, and the other is true enough.

Well, I will certainly say that the healing from that move, when fighting the 2nd boss, is most certainly not enough. My Rover could only barely handle the healing in that fight and base Rover is a far better healer than base Shaman. I can't argue that because I had to change from Shaman to Rover to handle that fight.

Sounds pretty good man, I'm currently using a party with line blind and having a dodge fencer with blind/parry on the front line. It seems to be working well so far but it takes a bit of time to kill enemies unless my masurao decides to crit every hit.

How do the race skills that raise the stats work? Is it a one time thing, or does it help increase my character's stats every level?

I believe its explained that its a one time thing and that depending on your characters level it varies. So its probably raised by whatever your character level is

The battle theme change past F15 is ace. Much more suitable and appropriate for tension and hype than the first one. Also comes with a really beautiful strata. The enemies on those floors are really lame though.

I'm only on floor 2 so I don't know. Hope not though.

Seems fine to me so far. I don't have many sources of poison so it's not like I use it very often, but when I can manage to land it, it always does 300+ damage to the enemies I'm fighting, who typically have 1-1.3k hp. Or so it was on floor 14-15.

But the damage scaling seems fine. I consider it an instant death sentence on any regular enemy, and immediately just stop hitting them to let poison take care of it while I focus on some other nerd. Even against FOE, it's very welcome.

I think people are still sort of figuring that out as they go since it was just released here but I will say that fencers seem to be the chasers of this game and they have plenty of multihit/multi follow up moves that might be helpful for whatever you're making.

Ive also heard a Necromancer/Harbinger has pretty good synergy, although im thinking more along the lines of getting an elemancer for that mana leak skill.

I don't have a Necro, but Reapers seem pretty self-sufficient. They're all about inflicting ailments, and they have a skill that lowers enemy party bind/ailment resistance. Anyone at all who can take advantage of that will pair well with them.

14F now, that Dullahan FOE was a pain in the ass. Took it on with red aura and won with 2 of my party members being dead. Gonna grab some materials for more nectars.

That thing is just a huge difficulty spike because he has high as fuck damage that you can't properly defend against. He even has a skill that both damages you more for each buff you have and that deletes your buffs.

The area behind the locked door on the second stratum has an enemy that lets you make leather armor with fire resist and high magic defense. It's really helpful.

Yeah. I noticed. That Clearbreath shit, or whatever it's called. Damn near instantly wiped my party since I have a Shaman. Breath attacks out the ass that have a variety of effects, high resistance to binds, useful ailments, and the elements, and then a modechange that (seems) to make him more physically orientated so you can't just protect against just magic and call it good. He's definitely harder than any boss/FOE before this. What a fucker.

Thanks for the tip about the armor though. I'll have to find the key to the doors (it's gotta be that Warlock book quest, right?) and go whip up some of those. It'd make for a nice change of pace anyways, since the plan was to just grind F20 for a level or two.

That's why I was only looking at the hp the shaman restored, and not what the others got. The others got much more, while the shaman was the one getting 15 or so hp each time they buffed themselves. While I'm back on shaman healing, I can confirm that none of the reported ways that appease spirits works are correct. It's not 25% of max health at rank 10 like that one faq claims, nor is it a set 25 hp. I don't know how it works exactly but both of these are clearly not true.

In which case you're still mistaken. A level 1 Brouni Shaman with 2 points in Gospel restores approximately 8 hp to himself with each cast. Regardless it's all moot by this point. It's a one point wonder.

I don't know how Appease Spirits works either and I've only got 5 points in it, but I'd be fucking amazed if bumping it to 10 somehow increased its healing to 25% of max health. That'd be godlike healing and thus is too good to be true. I've seen mine range anywhere from 8-15 hp, on a level 50 party with 230 average max hp. I could buy that it goes to 20-25, but it's clearly not set.

Reached 16F, 3rd stratum boss wasn't too bad compared to the 2nd. Things are starting to get tougher now.

I had more trouble with the lich king than i did with hyppogryph. I had just barely enough tp to take out the last wave before he killed me. The 1st boss was still the hardest so far.

Admittedly I got lucky with the paralysis. I had my warlock deal with the adds via explosion.

I used alot of blind skills. The boss didnt really do alot of damage, it was mostly a battle of attrition.

Pretty much, I utilised binds, buster cannon and buffs. Luckily I had spare amritas for tp restoration, I knew traditionally we will be able to get more via 4th stratum.

Level 5 explosion with abating chant is so fucking good. Trivialized the fuck out of the Lich King battle. It's pretty much all that my Warlock uses now that I've got abating maxed. Might as well rename her to Megumin.

Fuck that piece of shit. That nigger would have been the final boss in a lesser video game. Never again.

Experience-on-step was a mistake. I grinded my party to 70, hit the final stratum, and instantly lost all will to play. I guess leveling my party was more important to my enjoyment of the game than I suspected. It's just not the same now that everyone on the party is in their final form.

This game seems rushed as all fuck. Sure, it may be reminiscent of the wizardry games having only one dungeon and etc, but jesus christ there's a severe lacking variety going on. This would've been much better having other towns and/or other dungeons to explore. Hell, give us a dungeon with some buildings and the insides of them as part of a dungeon, maybe as a town that needs liberated or something.

Forgot to mention that the DLC is at best 2 portraits. So it's only cosmetic, but seriously. DLC for 2 portraits. Could at least make it a bundle pack and add some intrigue.

Codes are a bitch to scan and might take a while. Though there's a workaround. Save the guild card image, crop out JUST the QR code in Paint and then enlarge it. Scanning that by itself has a much higher success rate, I guess the rest of the card "distracts" the QR reader. I would post mine, but I can't find it. Just go look on the halfchan general, they have a huge amount over there.

I question the intense jewery going on that you have to pay like 1.99 unitedforcefully socialist dollarydoos for what amounts to two additional portraits. Two bits of pixel art, with only advancement being limited customization of skin color, hair, and eyes. That's about as much as you're gettting. I'm glad that their shit isn't like "pay 5.99 for a repeatable quest that hands you 6 million en", but still. I stand by that it seems horridly rushed in terms of content. We're getting into Dynasty Warriors levels here of same story being told, just new and improved, enhanced, and etc.

It would've been better having different areas and dungeons to explore. Hell, I would be all up and game for having a dungeon where you're exploring a town in first person, going through buildings, going through streets. Perhaps it be a story related quest where you take on overworld enemies that aren't FOE until the town is "liberated" and it becomes another hub town you can visit. Bring back a number of the older classes. But what they'll likely do is bring back older classes in the form of DLC.

That annoys me to no end. Does great damage but always get raped before I can revive her and then she misses a lot of exp. 3rd stratum is pretty comfy with the music

Im guessing you have a 4 kat masurao? I honestly have to say that switching to 4 kat was probably a mistake when it comes to grinding because of the annoyance of how easily she dies from getting hit once EVEN WHEN I BLIND THE ENEMY is very frustrating. I would have preferred had i stuck to her 1 kat mode.

I like blade master better anyway. Petal slash just ruins the enemy at max level, along with a maxed sword god and you can do some of the later encounters in one turn.

Why? The point of EO is that it doesn't have much story. It's about exploring a labyrinth so each game has you exploring a different labyrinth. Any story beyond that is what the player imagines for themselves.
Again, why? Having more NPCs to talk to wouldn't really add anything, and exploring deeper into one dungeon big is more fun for a lot of people than having lots of tiny dungeons.

It sounds like you just want EO to be more like a standard JRPG instead of the pure gameplay dungeon crawler it is. Maybe these games aren't aimed at you?

Testing

The game is pretty great so far but im not sure if my damage is good enough for strat 3 boss fight considering I just rested my team to rearrange some skill points around.

I mean I can barely just kill those wraith FoEs let alone the dullahans with my current set up. I got a nice amount of binds and status effects but I dont think my damage is good enough.

Just retire your whole team. You will get stronger apprentices which you can make exactly like your old team and your new team will be some levels below your old one.
