Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey is looking like an easy goty and that comes out later this month, Splatoon 2 is pretty good and I really enjoyed Golf Story. Getting one right now isn't really needed but it's quickly becoming the best console of the gen so purchasing one is something you should do in the future.

Two of those are "enhanced" ports. Mania is multi-platform, easily pirated on PC. BOTW can be emulated with all DLC/amiibo-locked content included for free. Odyssey seems like the only incentive to get a Switch as of now and it's been more than half a year since the Switch was released.

They're games you can whip out and play whenever you feel like, which is what you'd want from a handheld. They're multiplayer too, which works with the Joycon gimmick. They're the best examples of Switch games at the moment, especially since one is a rehash and the other is a port :^)

The 60fps patch also decreased resolution, I am definitely performance over resolution but that game looks less complex than games that are 1080 @ 60 on the system, it was a lazy job right from the start, but I continued support for the title is nice.

Was literally playing BotW in 4K earlier today. Frame rate is a stable 60 fps save for a bug in shrines where the framerate unlocks and runs at my monitor's native 144. But I fixed it with a cheat engine speedhack. Ten minutes of setup and you too can avoid the buyer's remorse of a switch.

The two emulators for PS2 and Xbox can barely work on PC, so that's for sure out of the question.
Gamecube will eventually come via Virtual Console, so you're not gonna have to wait for homebrew. I doubt someone would be able to get Dolphin to run on it either way, modern emulation just isn't at that point.

Me and three of my friends are having fun with Splatoon 2. The game was a blast playing with randos, but being able to do 4 man Salmon Run locally, and to have us take up half the slots in Turf War has been enjoyable. We get together twice a week to play. I haven't enjoyed a video game this much since Demon's Souls. I have no idea why people shit on this game so much. It's phenomenal.

DS, DS Lite, DSi, and 3DS all play original DS games, you can get a flash cart for $20 with near perfect compatibility for DS games. Very cheap to get into.

you put roms on a micro sd and put it in your ds, then select from a menu. The only way you can brick a DS/DS lite is with hardware fuckery. 3DS can be bricked with software but it's gotten to the point where even that is very slim. As an advantage, if you get a 2DS ($60 new these days) and the proper flash cart ($20) then you can set up custom firmware and pirate 3ds games as well.

to add on, this is the card to get, I like modchipsdirect because they ship from the US, but NDS-Card is very well-known.

If you have a decent one, you can emulate even DS in it. Though its best DS emulator suffers from an input delay, non realtime, and specially touchscreen focused games play very well.

And yeah, you have some sort of "operational system" and the roms in a microSD, then put the microSD in the flashcart, then you put the flashcart in the cart slot of the DS, then you play the roms on the original hardware.

it's just a game cart with a micro sd slot. you put the roms on the micro sd and it can load them off and run as a normal cartridge. Also has cheats and all of that stuff if it gets your jollies.

I've never touched a PSP. Can you elaborate? Also everything I said is current state of Vita hacking. Your main issues will be finding a used 3.60 system since anything over is basically worthless, and that you have to buy an adapter for regular SD cards. Also there's a bit of config editing here and there depending what you want to do.

PSP basically became faceroll easy to hack, and the system itself was basically opened up, no limitations, nothin' every firmware can be hacked, with the rare exception of obscure korean motherboards.

Though the last time I looked into Vita hacking, there was some drama of some dev saying he won't proceed with anything, because pirating is "wrong" or some shit.

I have a hacked Vita already, but it's been gathering dust, if I recall, last time, you had to essentially trick the system, get it to launch something, hope it sticks, and not power off your system, or you have to repeat the process again.

Yeah no, Vita was actually secured pretty well. You can definitely do a lot on a 3.60 system though. Two rules: Do not update ever, and do not fuck around in the filesystem ever except on the memory card (ux0:) or the 1GB internal storage (ur0:). Even then be cautious.
