<Step one: name a guilty pleasure game>

Final Fantasy XV

Genuinely like exploring the amazingly designed open world. I like the art design and general aesthetic.

~being able to swap characters
~each character has special moves that cost SP and can be chosen form a menu
~having armor that actually is meaningful
~while still holding attack and block will auto executive. Add a feature that rewards well timed attacks and dodges and have that reward be more significant greater the disparity of you and the enemies level. This way low level enemies can be dealt with by holding down a button, while higher level enemies need to be beaten properly. This way, more experienced players can enjoy a good challenge of a low level run. While the tumblr sjw FF7+ fan can have their "cinematic" experience by leveling up.

so you dick is something that most people think is garbage? Got it.

but user that is not the topic of the thread. The thread is about how you would fix a game that is admirably shit. because the implication is you can see the potential in it

your*

This is too stupid even for a shill

If you had posted any other game I probably would have posted FFXV as well for similar reasons. One thing I would have added to fix it would be keep the environments more open world instead of becoming linear near the end. Since FFXV is already taken, I'll try a certain walking simulator

Until Dawn

Liked the story and how the decisions you make actually felt like they matter. Like, how your decisions can make everyone survive or barely anyone survive, and how they die. Also influences future dialogue and stuff. Nice graphics and gore, although the framerate was abysmal a lot of the time.

-be able to run instead of just walking faster
-have actual game mechanics like combat/running/dodging/jumping instead of just walking and QTE cutscenes
-more dialogue options I guess?

If you like a game it must be doing something right. No need to try and hide it by calling it a guilty pleasure.

Mine is a PS2-era game called Getting Up. You play as a guy who wants to be a graffiti artist and gets his ass kicked, and who decides to get revenge. It starts off as a simple story of a kid who gets in trouble with the law, and with other gangs, but as you go on you find that there's something darker hidden in the story. The game itself is a product of it's time, with product placement for the Nokia N-Gage and original iPod.
The game is far from perfect. The fighting is basic, and the camera is shit. The graffiti mechanic makes sense, but they override the graffiti part by giving you the ability to spray paint super fast early in the game. There's a shoehorned levelling system that keeps the fun moves from you until you've pretty much completed the game. If all the moves were available from the start, the gameplay would be a lot more fun. The super fast spraypaint shouldn't be a thing until you complete the game, for speedrunners or lazy people.
It's on Steam. Go pirate it, it's fun

I remember seeing tons of adverts for this on G4 back then and it immediately disappeared after release.

user if you don't like a thread just use the filter function but I thought it would stimulate an interesting discussion about game mechanics. I guess neo/v/ only likes template breads. Time for LoL thread 1095.

the game I mentioned is shit, but it has some comfy elements that I enjoy. It does the whole "open world" pretty good but everything else is trash thanks to the combat being neutered. This is not meant to be an unpopular opinions thread. I was more thinking along the lines of "name 3 things to improve a game" but thought attacking the "to a bad game you like" part to make it a bit more challenging topic.

Final Fantasy XV had some great qts.
I'm not counting Luna because Luna a shit

FUCK, don't remind me of what the game could have been.

You're fucking completely right, good taste

Luna in the movie was a qt. The redesign was garbage.

I never played an Animal Crossing game. Is there a good one to start with?

they both look like heroin addicts

Are you talking about the look or the level design? From what I saw in the trailers and a few gameplay vids, it's all just flat plains with the occasional dungeon.

Reminder: nude mods on PC

World of Warcraft

It's a good singleplayer game to waste time while I wait for my vidya downloads to finish, also don't have to pay crap because Gold for Time/Money.

You can't fix a singleplayer MMO game where it wastes your time for cheap rewards, you can't just force people to suddenly care about the world and the people playing it to interact, it's unfix-able.

MUH DICK

skyrim
I like making characters that can grow magical abilities and the dual weilding
requiem mod is good, but the overpowered problems resurface once you hit about level 30.
I would add more world building elements, maybe by turning the dungeons you clear into mining networks or such.
Add the ability to choose different characters as you play, passing your current char off to work as a trader or help your own personal guild.
Also remove the whole "chosen one" plot, and put more emphasis on sidequests.
And probably segment the level caps by quest completion, e.g. you have to complete x amount of quests to reach level y.

I like 'em chipped and flawed a bit. There's a lot of qts arrested or detained in COPS.

Fixing them is easy. Make them ACTUALLY SINGLEPLAYER. Throw some more resources into cutscenes, and have the world actually change as you rescue villages and complete quest lines, and you'd probably have a HUGE blockbuster on your hands. If Rift had been an actual singleplayer game, I bet it would have made an obscene amount of money in an instant.
I probably had no influence whatsoever on this post, but I will delusionally pretend I did.

When FFXI came out everyone wanted it to be a single player game instead, including people who don't hate online games on principle.

I remember her tits being much bigger

Im seconding the Skyrim bit here but less for the magic and dual weilding and more for all the porn mods and adventures that are on the nexus. There's something fun about adventuring in a game with non-porn content while having sex and having lewd options for quests.
Return the weapon and armor degredation, hire better writers for better stories and hopefully factions like New Vegas, and return the complexity of weapons/armor from morrowind.

seem you where right.

I doubt anything can be done to make Skyrim good. Its been 6 years and there is not a single mod that actually makes that game enjoyable and even with mods the world map is so boring that exploration is not even remotely interesting. When I was a kid one of my favorite things to do was going on long hikes in the woods and exploring the wilderness. So there is a part of me comforted by aimlessly wandering around a complex world and getting a lay of the land. Its one of the reasons why I love Gravity Rush. Morrowind got the exploration aspect right yet Bethedo has fucked up so royally that none of the games after have been good. Mods cant even fix their garbage. Its very depressing tbh.

Nigger you are clearly full of shit.

Honestly even if a game is a MMO I think a developer could learn alot basing them on a single player formula. Unfortunately so much of what is garbage about MMO is born from the fact that your character cannot be the center of the universe and combat needs to account for servers, latency and bad bandwidths of hundreds of thousands of players. Their is not much one can do to improve the actual game play when servers is a factor. Or they could do what Vindictus did and limit the number of players in an instance to something manageable, but then its not really a MMO it more like Diablo with Battle.net.

What's funny is that I'd actually really like a singleplayer MMO-type combat. In MMOs you get SO MANY fucking skills, but they need to be balanced so most of them end up being not very useful. I'd love to be able to play a SP game where you could have such a ridiculous amount of choice in your build.

My guilty pleasure is TerraTech. It's shallow early-access garbage but digital legos are my weakness.

- Remove item shop so you can't just sell resources and buy blocks, and have to actually craft or find all the items you want. With just this change alone you'd have actual reasons to think about where you are and where to find a particular resource.
- Nerf the fuck out of shields, there's no way to lose as soon as you get access to them and decent batteries. They should have their own HP bar that's independent from your batteries, so they go down after several hits and take some time to come back. Repair bubbles should also have significantly slower repair speed.
- Make all enemy factions neutral by default and react to you, i.e. if you attack venture bots, then Venture will start sending bots to attack you. Allow the player to ally himself with them, so you could trade resources and items and recipes with them or something.
- Add floating islands or something where you can only get to with planes.
- Add water and make vehicles shut down if they stay underwater too long, and then make it so lighter blocks like Venture will float better.
- Remove the stupid infinite storage thing and add small storage containers that have an item limit.
- Fix the AI bots so they can actually be assigned to do work like they're supposed to and won't jitter around like retards, they've been broken since I first played this game for fucks sake.

I guess that could be cool actually if done right. In a way cool down timers reminds me of the ATB battle system. But I've never found any MMO to have any really interesting or sophisticated skill synergies. The combat systems all "feel" very rote. But I guess if it was balanced for single player you could actually do something interesting with them. Then when it comes to "single player MMO's" Kingdoms of Amalur comes to mind and lose faith in the idea. I hear dot Hack is good and some people seem to like Sword Art Online, but I never played them.

Never played the game but what if alliances where handled like Civ3 where groups where given randomized dispositions but you could also solve conflicts with good diplomacy.

Dragon Quest is best.

DQ XI is getting a NA release

Sword Art Online Hollow Realization

Mainly the combat system and sometimes the dating sim elements. After many updates the combat system did some interesting things. You can't switch characters but you have a good level of control of the rest of your AI team. Mainly telling them when to dodge, team attack, hit with special moves to stun, and when to heal. You can also tell them how often to use certain skills and if you want them to focus on aggro, tanking, DPS, or support. I had Strea constantly taking aggro off me and healing every time I got hit.

Another cool thing is that all skills have some sort of debuff or attribute like bleed, armor piercing, paralyze, etc. Chaining skills together made the damage multiplier larger and ending it with a ultimate sword art vastly increased its damage making for some fancy looking combos. Chain the right skills and you'll start doing absurd damage. Another absurd thing is that you can change classes at any time. Even during a fight so if you know how to properly cycle your skills and SP regen skills. You can apply 30+ buffs on yourself and deal Disgaea tier damage while moving at nearly 3x your normal attack speed. Commands like Switch allow you to cancel out combos to extend combos by having someone else continue it for you as you re-position yourself or have someone else take the damage for you from a monster's attack. They even added a PvP mode for some fun on the side.

The dating aspect is a little fun too and actually adds to the game because the people you befriend can join your party. As for all the main females, you can get them in your bed, hold hands, and bridal carry them. I can't really think of any other game that allows you to bridal carry and hold hands with your favorite girl at nearly any time. If you become very close to them you can give them new equipment or unlock alternate costumes as you go through the game. You can romance the same sex if you want for you yuri/yaoi fans.

There are so many things wrong with this game. The town doesn't have various minigames besides dating to keep you busy when you get out of combat. The sidequests are awful randomly generated fetch quests, kill X monster Y amount of times, or talk to X here to generate cutscene and fight an easy monster. They could have put way more effort into these. The design of the world is pretty bland and barely has anything unique to them that doesn't feel like a palette swap between another location. No environmental damage besides poison pools. Some areas just being hallways with enemies roaming around looks unnatural and lazy too. Have some animals sleeping, hunting other animals, guarding a place, or something.

Now the biggest problem for me with this game is the small movesets for enemies and the only aggressive enemies are humanoid enemies like skeletons and living armors. Most enemies should attack way more often and need a larger pool of moves to use against the player. Most just amount to some AOE attack surrounding the monster. You get all these tools to use and you won't need most of them because damage and HP are the only thing that makes some enemies difficult. Oh and the story is shit but that's expected of SAO. I have no idea how you can even improve that since they're not even in danger what so ever in this game.

Only other improvement is if the game allowed you to impregnate every girl's chests. Every girls who has huge tits has a outfit made for paizuri. Especially Leafa. Seriously though. Give this combat system to better devs or something with more budget and I think you could have a good Action RPG.

I forgot to mention some other things they could do to improve the game.

Not small changes but these would definitely help a bunch.

WoW live servers
I don't. time investment.
add more abilities that elaborate the classes (remove the pruning)
Fire Celestalon and add a dev that actually plays the game on a computer
make it less casual and grindy and more quality gameplay
make it more alt friendly like previous expansions
more raids and battlegrounds less mounts and cosmetics that they waste time on for casuals and soccer moms to collect

They didn't censor anything you fucking retard.
It says pre-rendered vs in-game.

why did they drop the ball on this one? It could have been the perfect video game.

Kat a cute.

It's usually hard to go from a newer one back to an older one. The DS one Wild World, for example, uses the shit dpad and tried to force the touch pad real hard. The Wii one, City Folk, the animals say the same thing over and over until you leave the area and come back.

Since the 3DS has piracy, you could try that one out, it's a really solid entry, my personal favorite. If not, I'd recommend emulating the Gamecube one, though there's been a ton of stuff added between GC and 3DS.

Because it's a console game series first and foremost, and the console manufacturers are fine with R rated violence but not R rated sexual content. If you really want to see senrans naked, play Evenicle.

Shantae is a cute but the game is unfinished mess
Need at least 3 to 6 more levels and at least 3 to 6 more bosses. Risky DLC needs all new levels that are unique.

This game is irredeemable trash
I don't know but I'm sure a megaman fan could come up with some good ideas.

I never said anything about censorship

>senrans naked
ew disgusting

I don't really find the game to shit but a little above average. For one, the story is entertaining just from how absurd and silly it is. Like going around beating up women so they can see their panties and making a R18 doujin out of it. Trying to get famous by becoming a rapper. Or a giant machine made to grope and defile women. This game actually gives me a reason to pay attention to the plot more than most games.

As for the combat, I just wish none of it was based on levels as it just seems to be there to artificially lengthen the game. Hell most of the games in this series don't need levels.

...

I remember buying the collectors edition of this from blockbuster for like ten bucks. They had a fucking pile of the things they could just not get rid of. I think they ended up throwing them out when they went out of business because I remember seeing at least five of those collectors editions every time I went in there.

Wizard101.

Fun combat system, even if the coin flip turn order is inherently flawed.
It gets surprisingly hard for a game designed to suck money out of children in the later worlds. Bosses have "cheats" which range from making battles more interesting to absolutely bullshit.

Not related to the game itself, but the wiki and de-facto forum both block VPN/Tor

(not necessarily a GUILTY pleasure) Shadow of the Colossus

Unique platforming controls, absolutely beautiful environments.

Make the world feel less empty by adding more things to do.
Improve the horse controls.
Platforming mechanics should feel less floaty and a bit more reliable at times.

None of the games have managed to keep my attention. I've played games with repetition before but there's something specifically unsatisfying about those I can't explain.

Since when is nudity R-rated? You see it all the bloody time in movies rated less, even in backwards places like Australia.

S4 is beyond salvation without panamaman.
No amount of fixes to it's garbage controls and balance could alleviate the simple fact that the Stylish part of it's name no longer applies.

Gay.

FFXV's big problem is that it actually became extremely linear for most of the second half of the game. Final Fantasy games used to focus on small areas and then expand into a large world. XV did the opposite. It almost felt like they ran out of time to really flesh out some of the story elements, so they just threw them at you one after the other in rapid succession.

At least the car is cool.

I thought they hid them with ninja magic, though it doesn't explain why Ryouna's aren't out all the time given how she gets off to exposing her self.

In FFXV it would be great if when you return to the open world after it's overrun with demons it was actually open and you could re-explore a much more challenging world where resources are limited and quests actually net worthwhile rewards. It would be cool to have to reclaim towns from demons. It would probably help the pacing and make the game feel more open throughout. This assumes the battle system is changed to be more challenging and fun
