The biggest problem I've found in modern porn games is that if the player loses their character gets raped and defeating the enemy doesn't give porn. Lewds should be a reward for skill, not a reward for failure.

I'm working on an FPS cyberpunk game set in a world run by a benevolent "Mother AI" whose idea of "good" for people is hedonistic, resulting in a society oversaturated with violence, sex and cheap pleasures.

You have to understand that motivation in general is linked to libido. Even if the game itself is fun the player is gonna be less inclined to continue playing after climaxing. That's why rewards shouldn't be too closely spaced and you should let the player set the pace for collecting them, ideally spread out as long as the length of a game session. If you just unlock everything to go back to viewing it in a gallery it might as well not be in a game.
The real challenge is making a tension curve though. It's hard to figure out a way to distribute content in the right manner without railroading the player. You want to start with subtle teasing instead of outright bombarding the player with lewd overdose. The problem in the tension curve of H-games is especially the lack of afterplay. It's hard to make the player invested after climaxing, since that would require to touch him emotionally instead of leaving him sober from his lust without nothing else left.

I don't think that a game having pornographic material makes it like a bad game or a game that you can't enjoy. I think maybe the games that you mod to have erotic material or a game with erotic material already are games that you have either played a lot already or games that you aren't interested in the first place aside from the eroticism. I think this problem also affects porn games where all the focus was put into making the game sexy so after you've satisfied your desires the game has no more interest to the player.

I guess you just have to ask yourself, are you adding nudity to the game to compensate for other aspects that are deficient? If no, then I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure that your game will be enjoyed by the players.

I think we should start coming up with a list of factors that would be beneficial to a pornographic game, so that we can better imagine how to make one.

Self explanatory. Plenty of older games can be played with only two or three main buttons, plus a d-pad/joystick, like anything on NES or Genesis. Think of this when designing the controls.
Score attack style games would be perfect for this. People always think RPGs or some open world thing, but let's be honest, the most popular porn is quick hardcore action. Plenty of popular games also work like this. By their nature, they also have different ranks and rewards, and it's obvious why this would be important in a porn game.
Everything I've said above does not mean you shouldn't have a story, but, like usual in both games and porn, it's best to present it during the action, and not in some tacked on exposition scene. Cutscenes may be used, but be careful. Do you want the player to climax during these scenes? They may well stop playing then. Or perhaps that is the point, and they are the reward. Of course back in the day that's what cutscenes were, a reward for winning. Maybe you design your game to purposely give the player opportunity for a quick wank, with the length of a level being designed for the length of a quick session (of course they could play multiple levels if they want) and the cutscene is designed to happen right at the climax so they can enjoy it. Then they can come back to the game later next time they're frisky.
Of course with the above, we don't want a situation where you get loading screens right when you're about to climax. Minimizing loading screens is super important. Sure you can have porn play during them but then that really defeats the point, doesn't it?
I've noticed that a lot of the things I've seen here, at least out of the ones that are action games, the graphics are typically low res pixel stuff, where the camera is zoomed out to facilitate gameplay, which makes sense, but then the characters involved are so small you can't see the details. It's not that you're doing kicks that somehow rip clothes off, it's that you're doing grabs, grabbing at the clothes, ripping them off. And if the clothes are already off, you grab some titty. Grabbing the titty then increases your arousal level until you get it high enough to cum. Of course ripping the clothes off does too, but not as much. Basically, instead of inflicting damage on your opponent's health meter, you're raising your character's arousal level. Grab a titty, goes up 5 points. Finger a pussy, another 10. Penetrate with penis, 15, and each thrust is another 3, +5% for anal.

Perhaps since the game is already about rape, your opponent does have a health meter as well, but this is a secondary meter that has more to do with your final score rather than simply passing. If you want anything better than a D Rank, you gotta drain this meter before filling your own. Or perhaps the closer you get the meter to the bottom without killing the opponent, the higher your rank. Killing your opponent results in a loss, unless you're doing a special necrophilia mission or something.

Of course, draining the damage meter is itself difficult until you learn to play well enough to not be a one pump chump. And you certainly don't want to prematurely ejaculate, which is definitely a loss and gets you no reward (unless maybe you're a cuck who gets off by having your intended rape victims laugh at you). I don't know how exactly to incorporate this into gameplay though. Suffice to say, under normal conditions, draining the damage meter causes the arousal meter to fill up faster, so arousal will max out before health empties. Perhaps there are certain difficult to pull off maneuvers that don't fall victim to this ratio. Perhaps there is a dedicated "don't cum" button that you have to mash to lower your arousal level. Perhaps there are RPG elements that control how aroused your character gets by certain moves or certain enemy traits, or how aroused you can get in general before climaxing, not to mention plenty of other stats that other regular games alter with RPG elements.

In addition to the health meter, the opponent also has her own arousal meter. Hardest to raise, but gives you the biggest points reward, and is of course essential for S Ranks.

Sengoku Rance and Yu-No are both some of the best games in their respective genres.

That's a start, but remove the VN stuff and focus purely on the action. And while making it a beat em up with multiple enemies on screen is more common for the arcadey score based game I'm describing, I think focusing on single enemies allows for more focused camera angles, as well as more complex moves.

The only thing I have a major issue with is getting fulfilling fighting controls with only one hand. Fighting games are a genre where having lots of buttons really helps. I know there will be a bunch of people saying just to use a keyboard, but that's shit for fighting games and everyone knows it. Using a modern controller, you can have the joystick, the button from clicking the joystick, and two shoulder buttons easily accessible with one hand, plus a d-pad and select, but you have to move your hand off the joystick, which isn't ideal. Using one of those controllers with four buttons on the back, one for each finger, would mean five buttons including the joystick button, and that's plenty, but nobody actually has those controllers and you can't design a game around it.

And I think that's your clue not to have it too strong in the main game parts. Have some lewd, absolutely, I enjoy tickling people's clothes off and perving on my MC in Akiba's Trip. But, ultimately, that should just be build-up to the main porn bits which should have little to no gameplay in them.

To be honest it's a very interesting question, because from my point of view it is not the adult content that breaks the narrative as it is the reaction of people to this content that truly breaks it.

Porn could be used as an amazing storytelling device. Imagine how much the writer can say about one character just by showing him/her in bed. Some serious authors include sex in their writing. It frequently doesn't work out as well as you hope. Kamidori is actually example of both, as the porn with the main heroines is pretty good and shows the development of relationship into lovers with an awkward start. They kind of lead into the other ones, with the women being obviously interested in Wil, but it doesn't work as well as the lead heroines. I don't mind, because I prefer it to the other scenario where you have much better side women and you can't fuck them, and instead get stuck with some lead girl who sucks.

I can also tell you that people who try what you are going for tend to be disappointed. The best case scenario is something where people pick it up for the porn and then go along with it for either gameplay or story.
