Spooky month is here!!!

October is here and you know what that means? it means the gates of hell are opening and your dead relatives are coming to spook you. What games are you going to play to ward them off?

I have a yearly tradition to play F.E.A.R. during the month of October and maybe the sequels if I feel like torturing myself. Once it gets dark I will play through the game for the 4th or 5th time I think it is, its gonna be great.

one final MA Ermor game of Dominions 4

I might actually try out F.E.A.R. finally.
Also will play through Call of Chernobyl again with the latest addons.

Darkwood

F.E.A.R is not actually a horror game, it's a HOLY SHIT WEW shootout game.

I already acknowledge the fact that F.E.A.R. absolutely BTFOs every other shooter, but it's still classified as a horror game so it's a good enough excuse for me to finally play it

You should be able to pirate the complete version since gog started selling that

...

I like playing Clock Tower 2 (known as CT1 in America) and LSD.

...

Help what spooky should I play

I would consider Killer7 horror to an extant, but I don't think it's the kind of horror that scares you at first. It seeps in as the game goes on.

where my potatonigger anons at

fucking checked holy dubs

Alien Resurrection for PS1

It's more of an unnerving type of horror than full on terror. The little things the game has going for it, such as the heaven's smiles laugh, the unusual colour palette, the fact that you have to scan your enemies, the fact that you can only shoot when standing still and the unusual camera angle when not shooting, it all gets under your skin after a while.
You're more repulsed than scared generally.

I want some good halloween themed horror games for the month but I can't think of any. I'm sorta defaulting to Haunting Grounds with no other options, maybe alice:madness returns as well.

I'm debating starting with Eternal Darkness or Fatal Frame. I might also try the dlc for The Evil Within - as mediocre the main game was, I'm a bit of a completionist, and I haven't touched it since I returned it to my friend over a year ago.

Fatal Frame
Forbidden Siren
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Condemned
Clock Tower
System Shock
Haunting Grounds
Enemy Zero
D
Alone in the Dark

Are the other Alien ps1 games worth playing?

...

I have Get Even and Layers of Fear still in my backlog, I barely have spare time these days but I suppose I'll take time off from shitposting here so I won't get spooked by my dead relatives.

I never replay horror games unless they're actually fun. I replay SOTN every october, but I feel like I should play something in my backlog first.

Could someone recommend me a relatively short horror game? Maybe 5-6 hours? Something that could be emulated easily would be nice.

Well if you go fast you could do F.E.A.R in like 3 hours. First run for me was like 8 hours though so it varies.

Thanks user, looks like a good list. What's D?

Dick.

Any good action horror?

Oh, no that's too spoopy for me.

It's more of an interactive movie than a game; you travel through the world in FMVs and, when you come across a static screen, it's time to engage the brain cells and do something.
It's dated in almost every area, but it has some allure due to not many people knowing about it and due to it being an early example of the survival horror genre.
There's a sequel for the Dreamcast, aptly enough called D2, which is such a huge departure from the original I wonder why they even called it a sequel.

Not to mention that the only way to hear the Smiles is by turning the volume up to hear the slightly giggle they give off when they spawn.

I'd say that the part that makes me feel like it's a horror game is when your target is Curtis Blackburn.

Do I look like I want to play doubles?

Lucky trips

I wanna play through Luigi's Mansion on Halloween, but I also wanted to do that last year and didn't, so maybe I should just start playing now.

I should probably also beat Dead Rising.

Probably a good time to play STALKER. I've still got Call of Chernobyl installed but haven't touched it in months. I think it was night time ingame the last time I saved, too. Should be suitably spooky. Since it's October and all I might make it a rule to sleep during the day and only go on adventures at night.
Fuck, I don't remember having a suit with nightvision yet. Welp, time to sink rubles into a good helmet.

These posts remind me, if you want a spoopy strategy game you should play Dark Omen (total war style, tactical battles only) or Ghost Master (I don't know how to describe it, go play it or watch a video)

I'd forgotten how good some of the undead art in Dark Omen was. Have some boners.

Will probably try and 100% that State of Decay remaster I've had in my back catalog for a long time.
Ace'd the original.
Just know they're going to fuck up the sequel.

After that I'll probably play RE4 which is also in my back catalog.
Never played it somehow, feel like it is a must play.

After that probably Killer is Dead.

On Halloween I'll play though costume quest because I've turned that into a ritual.

Ah cool! Thanks for the spoonfeed user.

In what way? IIRC it's a lot the same as the previous iteration. I love State of Decay but it was a bit pozzed tbh. Like your most useful members are the black dude and the halfbreed(?) army chick, and the one white dude you start with is kinda useless, and a cunt who gets himself bit. And then in the expansion the badass leader is an army chick. They've always been pozzed, but the bright side is your main character can be whoever you want since you use everyone and anyone can die. Or you can model swap characters.
What do you mean by remaster? Is this a mod remaster?

...

RE4 is breddy good Kind of wish i could forget my first playthrough and start it fresh again.

RE4 or, if you've played that already, the evil within but that one isn't as good.

Currently I'm playing STALKER (when am I not). I think I'll also finally try Metro 2033, since I got it for free ages ago but never played it. Also since OP reminded me, I think I'll need to play FEAR again.

I played through the They Hunger trilogy so recently that I don't think I'll be replaying it again. It still has it's own kind of charm, although the asylum part at the mid to end of chapter 2 is a bit of a illogical maze.

I need to make some brack this Halloween.
Any good recipes?

here's my mum's
550g flour
150g tea
50g whisky
150g raisins
10g salt
5g yeast

soak raisins in cold tea and whisky overnight
sieve flour into bowl and add salt
heat up some water to about body temperature and add yeast, stir and let stand until frothy
combine the wet ingredients with the flour and mix by hand or with a machine
when fully combined kneed for 2-5 minutes
prove for 30 minutes and kneed for a second time
bake at 180 degrees for 40-50 minutes

I'll probably will play these two. No really scary but fun and kind of comfy in a strange way. Also I'm pretty nostalgic for it.

almost forgot
you need to prove it again after the second kneeding, this time for 60-90 minutes

Does this game has an actual story or is it just survival and shit?

I'll play Knock-knock and Cat Lady because I'm too much of a pussy to actually play anything really scary. Maybe something else too.

gonna try and get through re2, 3 & 7 and silent hill 3. which version of white day is better: the remake or the original?

I think I'm too much of a pussy to even play Knock-knock. How do you enjoy horror games?

...

Castlevania series.
Super is my favorite, I replay this one several times per year.

Try FF user, my favorite series. The first one is very good, but gets fairly hard. I had to retry one chapter close to 10 times due to a lack of good film

Just spook my shit up

Maybe this will be the month I finally beat Amnesia, I've started it a thousand times but never finished it.

Evil Within 2 coming out.

G-get hype everyone! (?)

Honestly 1 wasn't that bad, kinda generic, yes, but not bad imo. It looked ok, some of the bosses were spooky and the shotgun felt fucking satisfying iirc.

I barely remembered that shit
*I feel good about the sequel, I haven't been following it closely or anything, but for some reason I think Shinji Mikami is going to do a good job**

Why.

The game's ridic easy and isn't even that scary. The best scares that game does have aren't even related to the monsters.

Also gonna shill a game I shilled a few years ago.

I wish the pseudo-retro trend that sees all indie games with pixel art would also have produced one for PS1-era low-poly art. For some reason, shit like that creeps me out more than any Ultra HD stuff.

Seeing fixed cameras again also could be nice.

I just got bored the times I played it, I guess I'm gonna give it one more try and delete it if I don't finish it.
And Nameless Game is really good user, played it on Ds a couple of years ago

Is that thing finished? I remember playing the demo one or two years ago and it was bugged af.

No idea, sorry. Haven't played it in a long while either.

Shinji isn't directing it this time although I think he's a producer

Is it the one where the MC is drowning in cum on the cover art?

Yes.

Are the old Blair Witch adventure games any good?

Any anons played Until Dawn? I hear it is short, but is it good and spooky for October? I recommend King's Field for spooky skeletons on the ps1.

Oh, before I forget, I'd recommend Year Walk under two conditions:

1. You don't mind the possibility of it going between a walking sim and an adventure game (it has puzzles, but a lot of it is walking around figuring out where they are and how to solve them)

2. You try and play the whole thing in one sitting, so wait for a sale.

Alternatively, play it on New Years Eve. It has a few jump scares, admittedly, but they're not 'dog jumping in through a window' type. They usually have a purpose beyond scaring the player.

user we're talking about spooky GAMES. until dawn is a shitty movie with unlikable characters
not to mention a double barrel shotgun that can shoot 10+ rounds without reloading, that triggered the fuck out of me

I play the classic Splatterhouse and the second one, and added Bloodborne last year

thanks, your opinion is noted and valued

I will probably just marathon the Silent Hill trilogy across three evenings like I always do.

Those barrels are pretty long user, you can load like 10 shotgun clips in there easily. If you don't know how guns work you shouldn't post your dumb opinions, gosh. I'm pretty sure video game developers would know more than you about weapon mechanics.

Also just finished Fear:Extraction point, kind of glad that it's not the canon continuity. The gunplay is obviously better than in the shit tier main sequels but the plot and 2spoopy4me jump scares got pretty retarded by the end. Did not see that ending coming either.

Probably just replay Eternal Darkness, as far as horror related games go anyhow

Expanding upon this, I really wanna play Symphony of the Night and Resident Evil as well. I'll probably only get done one or two of them, and that's assuming I actually buck up and play.

YOU CAN CHILL UNDER MY BED, MR. BONEY!

Baran brack tastes like shit.

Don't believe anyones lies if the tell you alien isolation is good, very few single player games have made me rage like that buggy piece of shit.

Ah October, time for me to hook up my Xbox 360 and play Dead Space yet again. Thought I need to play through Fatal Frame 2, since I've owned the game for a good year now but haven't hardly touched it since beating the first FF.

Or maybe I should just find something new altogether?

Means its time for the build up to the very disappointing yearly TF2 halloween event.

Play it user, you could also play the Wii remake (PAL only though) if you don't like the old fixed camera angles

...

I'm trying to figure the best games to play as a skeleton, but can't think of any other than medievil.
Any suggestions?

Grim Fandango

Killer Instinct has Spinal
Grim Fandango has Manny Calavera
It's a bit of a stretch but in Warlords Battlecry you can play a skeleton hero. It's an RTS though so it's probably not what you're looking for.

Sniper Elite v2

maybe the GOATest of skeleton games?

T H I S

shame there are no good open-source Saturn emulators

You could play as a Necromancy in Bone armor with a skeleton army in Diablo 2.

You're forgetting Chrono Cross which features Skelly the most bro tier skeleton ever.

Holly shit I totally forgot about that game

Spinal was the only character I used in that game, good times. And I've never been a fan of RTS but I might give it a try.

Never heard of it, might give it a try.

The necromancer in Diablo 2 was fun as fuck, I miss playing it with my friends but they think that Diablo 3 is actualy a good game and only play that one so I don't really have anyone to play

Holly shit that guy was awesome, that guy and Fargo were always on my party.

I can't get past the second day. This isn't even scary anymore.

...

Is the original alone in the dark trilogy worth playing? or is it too dated?

Play

Input invincibility code
Become ninja bones.

it's a bit dated but it's horrifying when you get the hand of the gameplay.

Shit's easy, here are some tips:
>if there is a Breach open, DON'T remember in lit rooms or you will get spooked
>if you hear a little girl's voice don't stop and hide behind furniture or you will get spooked again
Other stuff:
>search for the little girl in the forest for the puzzle pieces - you have to walk 'into' her from the level you are on, otherwise she disappears but will reappear in a different location

If you like turn based RPG you can play Divinity Original Sin 2 and make an undead (skeleton) character. You can play as human skeleton, dwarf skeleton, elf skeleton and lizard skeleton. For maximum enjoyment create a custom skeleton and invite Fane (another skeleton) to join your party and pick Lone Wolf as a talent which makes you character very strong as long as you don't have more than 2 party members.
Also you can pick the talent Pet Pal so you can bone all kind of monster like spiders and slugs as well as other sentient beings. You can spook people by removing your armor and showing them you are a spooky skeleton and use your finger to open locks. Pick necromancy for extra spookiness.

I'll be playing Final Doom on UV and maybe replay Doom 3. I might try FEAR out, if I manage to force myself to try this game out.I'm also playing through Blood with an user. It's a lot of fun, actually.

Thinking about taking another crack at beating Yume Nikki. Last year I didn't pick it up until the day of Halloween and I didn't get very far in it. I'm really bad at the sort of abstract thinking required to get through the game so I've never been able to beat it on my own.
Besides that I don't know what the fuck people play for spooky month. Never been a big Halloween dude anyway.

Thanks for the help. Does each forest segment feature a girl/puzzle?

PARANOIA for Half-Life is pretty good.

It's surprisingly scary and despite having some retarded puzzles and very awkward combat, it's still a classic. Two is just a mess and three is spookier. They all go crazy with the retarded puzzles though so I hope you enjoy reading a walkthrough unless you want to fuck around.

You should really try Ecstatica if you're looking for a deranged AitD clone.

No problem. Yes, every time you enter the forest, you can find the little girl in there, but she only appears once in one forest segment. Also, just to clarify, you don´t actually solve puzzles, you only receive a sort of "token" of progression in game. If you get stuck in later levels I can give you more tips.

I'll probably play Silent Hill 3 again. Been a few years.
Though on the whole I've not been too in the mood for horror lately. I had bought the White Day remake and really liked what I saw, but then fucking Denuvo happened and I had to refund it.

I prefer moody, brooding, atmospheric games over le spoogy monster around the corner. I recommend this if you agree.

Speaking of Half Life, Nightmare House 2 is a good spooky mod.

Storywise it was really pozzed, anyone can see that.

I mean ruin more in terms of gameplay.
I fear that with a bigger budget they'll try and make it more "epic" i.e. more focus on a shitty story.
They want to make it 4 player co-op and that doesn't really turn out very well in a lot of cases.
I just really like that feeling of.

Lastly yeah
I think I got it in a humble bundle or something.

seems to just werk in mednafen although it uses a shit ton of resources and has some audio crackle

Thanks, fam. I will do so.

Any zombie games where you can be the zombie? I only know of one OGXbox/Xbox 360 I forget game and some shitty GMOD addons.

What's the song from the first webm?
It's on the tip of my tongue.

...

YOU KNOW ME, THE FIGHTING FREAK KNUCKLES, AND WE'RE AT PUMPKIN HILL
YOU READY?

I found it

oops

Stubbs the Zombie in "Rebel without a Pulse." Pretty good game.

Thanks man. Anyone else know of any games like Stubbs?

You know what the scariest thing about FEAR is? The things alma went through happened to real people but they didn't have any psychic powers

there are so many ways they're made that a statement like that is overly broad and vague
if you buy those €1 bracks from tesco or dunnes of course they'll taste awful

Every year I rewatch Gregory Horror Show and read the comic. Last year I was finally able to emulate the game, previously it would just show a black screen, so I guess I'll make that a tradition too.

You could potentially add Koudelka for the PS1 if you favor eerie atmosphere to actual combat, as it's a hybrid Gothic Horror/JRPG mixture (with light tactical elements as well). It's not for everyone though.

Yeah, I find it odd that an old school fixed camera survival horror game hasn't been made in years, whether by an indie or studio.

That low-poly look would work great for lazy indie devs to make something compelling.

spooky bump

It's good but I wouldn't go that far, combat is satisfying but I find the pacing rather poor, you have the occasional fight with the game becoming a walking simulator with hammy spoops.

What kind of combat do you prefer in you horror games?
No way to defend yourself at all, a simple shove or kick that can buy you a little bit of time or being able to use melee weapons or guns?

Personally I prefer it when I'm able to properly defend myself (kind of like how it works in Silent Hill 2 or Resident Evil for example) against an enemy if need be.

Combat that uses up limited resources. Maybe a bit on the clunky side, but don't go full tomm hullet and think the horror stems from shitty gameplay. Things should just encourage you to dodge and flee.

Fuck, I love that game. It's a bit rough around the edges but unquestionably worth a lot more than the 50c or whatever it costs these days.

I don't care if it is jump scares, the atmospheric music and the enemies still fucking spoops me hard.

...

Dead Head Fred, where you play as a zombie voiced by the dude who played Dr Cox from Scrubs
RE outbreak's online let you become a zombie
there's a handful of multiplayer zombie games with vs mode

Considering how many americans I've seen who are huge RA heads, I'd be likely to believe it.

bumpers

I live in a town in America where they get more out of control on saint patricks day pretending they're Irish than actual Dublin saint patties

of course if you go into Dublin on st. patties day you're just gonna have some knacker steal your wallet

bump

at least bump with some actual content

...

I'm mostly trying to catch up on character action shit; beat Viewtiful Joe, but I want to go back and unlock all of of the other characters, and I'm also working on Bayonetta. I can't get spooked if I'm tearing my hair out trying to get S ranks

I've been playing Near Death, not sure if something outright spooky is going to happen but the anticipation is pretty sweaty. It's definitely not in your face like Cryostasis so I don't know, went in blind with it.

All I've played was the Alien Trilogy and recall it being not bad.

It's got a story, the lack of genuine companionship in the spooky enviroment is quite unnerving.

ddlc.moe/

Wanna know what's really spooky?
Not being able to play any games because I fucked up two of my fingers.

more

I might just replay them. Both games have such a comfy atmosphere that reminds me of those detective stories I used to read as a kid.
Any recommendations for other good detective games?

...

Guess I'll see if the F.E.A.R. expansions were any good unlike the squeals.

It may be in the north but man oh man were the republicans out that night

Good shit.
Diablo 1 is the best for actual spookiness out of all of them.

Someone needs to make a red user edit
