Cuphead is out

Last thread was deleted since OP and a few other linux anons were being off topic niggers.

Literally what?

Its alright

Literally great

...

please spoonfeed torrent!

Did you just delete it accidentally by deleting all posts by IP? The last thread had a magnet link in the OP, too.

No, the thread was deleted because OP was shitposting and cakekike (((accidentally))) hit "delete all posts by IP in a thread" instead of just banning him and manually cleaning his posts because he's probably on his fucking phone again.

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:98222f24217c09aa2583de54c13222711d8289ee&dn=cuphead

Oh but that's not enough, after that you spoonfeed me on HOW TO USE the torrent!

The only minor issue I had with the tutorial was that I didn't understand the parry system. Other than that it was very straight forward.

quads confirm its not dolphin porn.

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:98222f24217c09aa2583de54c13222711d8289ee&dn=Cuphead-GOG

You jump then jump again

I just put it in the OP

This is the game that one reviewer tried to ruin for everyone because he couldn't get past the tutorial, correct?

Oh is that it? The videos made it seem like it was a separate action, that's nice

Yeah, I found that out after actually reading the tutorial. Like I said it was a minor issue that wasn't 100% clear, but once you see the animation then you understand what it's used for.

Actually I lost my dolphin porn and I can't constantly reupload it to MEGA every time someone asks me for links.

Could I have some dolphin porn?

I was gonna clean the off topic stuff in the thread, but I didn't realize that OP was one of the faggots who was shitposting

It's better this way though

Ask >>>Holla Forums or make an Echo thread

this isn't the thread for it.

I fucking knew it. Why aren't you streaming this?

...

I was earlier, I just don't advertise my shit on Holla Forums since I'm a big enough attention whore as it is.

You know why

I am, but I'm also shy. So try and figure that one out.

Cuphead tutorial speedrun when?

Well they DID take a second mortgage on their house just to make the game, and they're not obsessed with politics. They just seem like a bunch of dudes who like 1930's cartoons and vidya. So in this case maybe?

always pirate first, no exceptions.

goodolddownloads.com/?game=1963513391 if you feel like direct-downloading instead of a torrent, IGG-Games also has a release but it's a cracked Steam version as compared to the already DRM-free GOG installer

You saw how much cancer came out of just him having a bit of trouble in Sonic.

...

At least they didn't put Denuvo on this, I'm having fun with this game so I hope it ends up doing well.

Can't remember last game that had stuff like this. lets you bypass the Hilda Berg boss if you're shit at it.

Well okay then.

That's what I wanted, tbh.

Oh now I see what they were saying about color bleed

At least it can be disabled, but I really don't mind the way it looks, didn't mind how much chromatic aberration they were showing early on either.

Your flag is still on, by the way

I don't mind it either. I like it, and the fact that you can disable it is a great addition

So has anyone got a magnet for the OST yet? I fucking love King Dices song.

Sorry user, but I had to cap that.

This game is great, also shotgun is best weapon

He's never had more attention than that.
He might as well reach for the stars.

Eh, I suppose I should be hacked off my thread got nuked and 3 posts=shitting up the place, but if this thread turns out better I'll call it even.

Youtube keeps nuking the OST videos, give it some time.

Half-way through the second island, probably gonna be one of my recommendations for the year.
Go the Steam forums if you want to see all the scrubs being weeded out

We talkin bidya nao?

Your evil shitposting is even worse than misogyny on the internet.

They're also selling the OST for 10 fucking dollarydoos and flagging the videos with the soundtrack on jewtube.

Well that's disgusting. Going to try and start it again and report back.

Yeah, but I thought someone would have gotten a hold of the OST files for the Deluxe Version of the game on steam, getting these in FLAC would be amazing but I'll settle for MP3s

I downloaded Cuphead but don't know if I should install it yet. I'm trying to play through Dragon's Crown, but the past few games I've played I have abandoned before completion.
Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning (made it to center of the final area, kinda burned out on it by that point)
Vanquish (got bored with charge limitations forcing me into cover and managing weapon/ammo pickups)
Toukiden 2 (only daggers were quick and enjoyable to wield, tried switching it up, but combat got boring)
DOOM 2016 (got bored)
Fallout 4 (got very bored)
GTA V (got bored)

I need to stop abandoning games. Playing multiple games within in any period just makes abandonment easier. I think the last time I really enjoyed a game without getting bored was Arx Fatalis. I dunno why that in particular could hold my attention; it just felt really comfy to play. /blogpost

That would be something for the musical if it weren't fucking dead

What did he mean by this ID?

Real Shit!

Maybe the problem isn't with you. Maybe those were just bad games, and you only kept playing them due to inertia rather than because you actually wanted to play them.

Tbh, kde is a shit desktop enviroment

Fucking fight me.

The problem is definitely him

Alright, alright. Over half of that list is "got bored", though. I'm just saying.

Amalur is actually fucking shit though.
It's a single player mmo with overly stylized combat without any substance to it, or its fetch quests, or anything.

Since the previous thread was nuked. I'll abridge my likes and dislikes of the game so far. Visuals are good. Attack pattern and extra fights of bosses change from selecting either simple or regular is much needed difficulty feature.

Separating boss from levels seems like a wrong design choice in my opinion. It lacks buildup for the boss fight and levels are just run to the end speedrun levels. Looks cool by design but lacks context to story. I feel like I'm the only one who sees this problem but when I judge a game, I judge it on all it's aspects and how it works together rather than just the enjoyment I get out of it, which I am having. It's an obvious design flaw because of a combination of the ranking system, immediate death redo and what seems like late game changes in production. Looks like it might be good but it could have been far more amazing with some tweaking here and there.

Well okay then. I think I'll wait for a patch.

I can understand most of that list, but how do you not finish Vanquish and NuDoom. They're both like 5 hours long. How short is your attention span?

Nigger they've been saying it was a boss rush at the start which then they added some levels to since the beginning.

...

If you bought the game, you should report it on their forums to get that fixed

That's probably true.
But everyone told me Vanquish was amazing. There was fun stuff to do when you're sliding around, but going back to cover to recharge over and over got boring really quick.

I did put a lot of hours into that one before abandoning it. I think when I started getting bored was when I tried to force myself to do main quests. I still have a faction quest I need to do, but I could easily go defeat Gadflow whenever, I'm right there where the group meets up to start that quest. I never did the DLC since I wanted to complete the main quest line first.

I could probably go back and finish them if they're that short.

BTW I pirated all my games so there's no buyer's remorse forcing me to like them. I think that's a factor when you pirate everything. You don't necessarily feel the need to "get your money's worth" out off games by completing them if you got them for free.

...

Such is the plight of the pirate.

I have so many games on my softmodded Wii and softmodded Wii U that I haven't even touched. And yet, I'll probably get a Switch when piracy is possible on it and wind up only playing a handful of the games I pirate for it. Same story with the 3DS and DS I've pirated games for.

But yknow, what's the alternative? Becoming a filthy buyfag with a big steam library much of which I don't bother touching either? The only difference would be a massive waste of money. You can even argue that buying consoles to softmod them for piracy when the emulation for the platform isn't perfect (or you want portability) is a waste of money too since you're only interested in a handful of titles on the platform.

tbh the only thing I truly would say I waste money on is computer hardware. I have two overkill builds and a gaymen latptop which I want to replace with a portable liquid–cooled mini-ITX build for far superior cooling over a laptop. I think there's a value to the enjoyment I get out of putting computers together though.

So learn to dodge-boost

You don't have to buy a bunch of games if you're a buyfag. You can buy games little by little, making sure you only buy what's going to appeal to you and you're going to finish. It's the same with downloading music. You can either download terabytes of discographies you never listen to, or go through each album little by little making sure you get a taste for everything.

Shitty fucking devs keep getting BTFO
Hopefully in the future this cancer stops existing altogether.

The funny thing is the Dean Takahashi controversy probably helped boost its popularity. Many people buying the game as a "status symbol" of hard games.

So is it fun?

yup

Ask tomorrow. Give people a goddamn fucking minute to download and play it

...

Pic related, but unironically.

It's way too damn hard

Is anyone else having a bug where Player 2 connects automatically any time a button is pressed? It might just be something with my specific controller driver. I can just play with keyboard in the meantime but it's annoying nonetheless

What controller?

yes, just make sure youre not using any 3rd party controller apps, i was using scpserver at the time with a dualshock 4

Did you plug the controller in after you started the game? What you open the menu with is considered First Player controller.

because this happened to me, i just needed to close the third party app, and reboot cuphead, and it worked.

Anyone else dying on level 1 constantly? Those red mushroom faggots really piss me off especially when the blue faggots keep running around on the fallen trees and the yellow faggotflowers are harrassing me and after you're past that the coconuts start attacking and I fucking hate them even more than the mushroom faggots

...

Watch your language, missy.

Yeah, same thing here, thanks.

anyone else get perfect run on the first level?

Sorry, but do you find the game hard as well?

Apparently Cuphead + InputMapper = hard locks all day. Tried Ryochan's DS4Windows fork and it works.

...

Yeah. Not unbearably so, but no walk in the park.

for the mushrooms, duck and shoot, it will work every time

These blogs just got themselves some autistic fans because they shilled themselves in the late 90s and early 00s and after that started shilling out for game companies.
Some like IGN weren't even vidya only

They're not critics, they're shills and they'll do anything they can to fuck the consumers of the shit they shill.
Same with game magazines but those sold out back in the late 90s.

The music calms me down.
Also how did you know to call me a missy.

I know that yet I keep dying because it is just too much at once

I like classical guitar arrangements.
You sound like someone who isn't used to swearing too much is how I could tell.

On the vegetables, yeah. I don't know if I want to get into the habit of replaying a stage over and over until I get a perfect score for just the first playthrough, but it seemed pretty easy to get the A+ on that one.

WWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

So the exact thing that triggers the lockup with DS4s is specifically when the driver is trying to hide the controller, which is normally what you need to do when the game is reading double inputs (like cuphead does).

This is something that does need to be patched, checkmate niggers.

MS compatibility with sony pads has always been shit

I like them too.
I think your music helped me finally complete the first level after like 20 tries, with a C but still.

Works with straight up every other game though. Cuphead fucked up their dinput hooking.

Good job.
With some games you need to take a break between sessions.

Pretty fun but also very challenging. Should be fun for an hour or two each time I play it. Anymore and I'll probably get bored and frustrated. Said by many, but the audio and visuals are top notch.

Nice

>and flagging the videos with the soundtrack on jewtube.
FUCK THEM

FUCK YOU IM NOT PLAYING YOUR SHITTY GAME

This game just wonderful

After pirating it and playing a bit, this doesn't seem like it's worth $20. Maybe I've gotten stingy but I think I'll wait for a sale to pick it up.

I played with a friend for a bit, it's pretty fun.

It's cheaper on GoG

i'll temporarily pass

Linux support?

No it isn't.

I saw it was $11.77, $18.13 with the soundtrack.

Depends where you live, for me it's €20.

Few bosses/levels in, and it's pretty enjoyable. It's the first game I've seen that abuses CA and is actually the better for it (bloodborne would be a good example of CA gone horribly, horribly wrong). Soundtrack is obviously good, art is good, gameplay is decent, but definitely not $20 decent. The perfect price point for me would be $10, and their DMCA shenanigans have soured me on them, so for now, they aren't getting my shekels.

Unpopular opinion time: gaymes journos are actually right in comparing the difficulty to meme souls, but not in the way you're probably thinking. Run'N'Gun levels don't fit that comparison (closer to Contra than anything else), but the bosses could almost be viewed as puzzles. Similar to meme bosses in DaS3 like Midir or Friede, who aren't particularly difficult, but who heavily punish any mistake and have massively inflated HP pools. The key to victory isn't organically reacting, but merely memorizing their movesets and slowly whittling them down.

Overall, I think the contrast between the contra-like levels, and the trial and error bosses is bretty gud though.

Autist salt is pretty funny, it's why I didn't bother telling you off about Sonic.

It's $19.99 for me. When did you see it? I think it had a discount when it was up for pre-orders.

Right now. Some user said it depends on the area. That sucks.

There was no preorder discount

Not in the UK, friend. gog has no GBP currency yet, so I get jewed more thanks to the conversion rates.

GoG adjusts the prices based on where you are. He might be somewhere where the local currency is stronger than the american dollar.

Oh well, it will be on sale eventually.

sadly there is no native support.

Not with a VPN you won't.

Ah, that's a shame. Guess I'll pirate and test in wine.

Really digging that Koko the clown style, might give it a download.

Those are mutually exclusive

...

>Shrewdly, the creators lanced many of the warts that have festered on the “good old days” of both forms. Gone are both the technical limitations of classic games and, more importantly, the grotesque racist caricature of classic cartoons. Cuphead’s creators have emulated how we remember our nostalgic darlings, rather than how they actually exist today.
SJW Approved!

Dare I ask which article? Obviously if you don't post archive you're getting bullied.

CA?

Chromatic Aberration.

Chromatic Abomination Aberration

Nevermind then. Guess I'll go back to Stalker.

Of course it is.
OF COURSE IT IS.

WOW

No fucking way.

wew, this is something I guess.

it was the equivalent of $9.50 in my country

Silly me for not getting that.

Cuphead was getting heat years ago because they thought the characters in the game WERE racist caricatures, specifically the devil. Fuck whoever wrote that article.

the frog boss is annoying

czech'd

Get this hot head out of here! Chris is a saint and you gombleglorber grumpf supporters make me sick.

He can't change countries and pay in USD with a GBP bank account, systems are in place to avoid people abusing conversion rates in every digital store. Even if he could then he would need to either make a separate GoG account just to buy this game and he would only be able to redownload the keys or game from that account.

I tried doing that once with a humble bundle account and i eventually forgot the password and also the recovery mail and the bastards refused to restore the account even when i told them details about it, using several accounts is a mess.

One more, just to really put Saint Chris into perspective.

The two frogs? They're a breeze compared to a certain aerial boss.

i beat the aerial boss 3rd try
struggling on froggos and flower man
at least frogs have a really badass background art

Hilda Berg isn't that bad besides the yellow orb that the twins fire. I have no idea how you're supposed to know which direction it's going to start firing

Pretty sure there was a screencap of a nigger firefly last thread.

I was scared of clowns as a kid, then I got over them, then I struggled on the clown boss

How? The old chinese man? Not enough blacks? Christ is everything racist now?

Yes, everything is political.

...

Jesus christ the time requirement on Treetop Trouble is ridiculous. Even using the i-frame powerup to skip the woodpeckers early on you can get a bad cycle with the rising platforms halfway through and lose the A+ there.

Sounds like someone that just decides to look for race in every fucking thing and low and behold he finds it every time. He could look for something racist in a Betty Crocker brownie mix box and would find it.

Who would win in a speed challenge. A Video game journalist or a bird?

...

Like woah, my game are seriously going to be impacting a broader social context.
Far out man.

When using an xinput wrapper and emulating a 360 pad, hiding the dinput causes cuphead to hang, and take everything else with it. You can get it to work via usb, but no bluetooth support for DS4 which is obnoxious and something other games (that don't even support the DS4) have a problem with when you're using an xinput wrapper.

Well yea, Betty Crocker is a racist who appropriated the color brown for naming her confections and named her soft, gooey, chocolate cake squares "brownies" to imply that blacks are soft like poo. She also uses the idea of cardboard boxes that was stolen from the kangs. Bitch probably ate peanut butter too.

Niggers didnt invent peanut butter

You gotta at least give it to the devs, they made the game with DS4 in mind. You see all the button prompts with the proper names (CIRCLE, CROSS, SQUARE, TRIANGLE), which not many dinput games do.

That's what makes it funny.

They somewhat half-assed that, just writing it out instead of spending 10 minutes to make proper button prompts like they did with microsoft pads, pic related.

This was worth 20 bucks.

I think it was a conscious decision. They already have a cross, it's not like it takes much effort to draw a square. Either way, it's good they at least took it into consideration.

You gotta do the parry thing on the floaty pink ball to get the fifth coin on that level.

You talkin' about the bird?

this is even worse than the contents of those slides.

I saw better powerpoints in high school.

the airplane boss on the torrent made me buy the game, that was some quality design

Does the game has good/decent PC controls? I've played enough games that has shit PC controls and basically require a controller, and I'm not buying one just yet.

What do you think, fam?

buy a controller, this doesn't seem like it would be comfy with keyboard

Fuck, guess I'm not playing this, despite how cool it looks. What would be a good controller for PC, preferably under $20 Burgerbucks?

It's not a fightan, you can do fine with keyboard controls.

To be fair, fighting games can be quite easy on the keyboard if you're used to it since you can do very precise inputs.

i got my hori gempad 3 for under that price, but i think since production stopped they went up.
i'd look into cheap hori controllers with a layout you like. i hear buffalo pads are good too, but haven't used any.

Please tell me you're being ironically unironic.

What's the difference?

...

...

But this isn't /mu/, this is Holla Forums.

Your smug anime-fu is weak.

Here, have some good poorfag controllers:
amazon.com/Afterglow-Wired-Controller-Xbox-360-Blue/dp/B00EZKNT18
amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA

No that font rendering literally gets me hard.

How the FUCK is that still a B? There is no way to get through the stage in less than 1:08. I dash through every woodpecker, I hit the right cycle on the timed platforms, I use the five-card super to practically skip the boss altogether, I don't know what to do. Just give me an A-, man, throw me a bone, it's the only one I don't have an A on.

Maybe there's a hard mode?

There is an Expert mode once you beat the game. Don't think it affects rankings, though. Might be wrong, since I haven't gotten that unlocked yet.

Expert lets you S-Rank levels. As for user, he just needs to go faster. I'd bet

What is this lil' vampire loli thinking about?

Maybe there's a power-up that makes you run faster? I don't know, if there is it's not available on the first island. It's just weird that it's not even an A, that should be a near-perfect score since I hit the other four parts.

Good, I was hoping for that

Yeah I fucking get that pal, but I'm at a loss as to how. Have you tried getting the A+ on that level?

I'm not even bothering to loot all the fucking coins, so no :^)

How short is it? I don't want to buy this shit if it's only like 4 hours long.

except for ones like street fighter which require you do to stick rotations for a move which are literally impossible to do on a keyboard

it doesn't seem terribly short.
i'm a pretty average player and the first area took me an hour, i think there are 4 more areas to go.

The game at least starts under wine, but crashes when you get to the first load screen. I've got the error output, now I just have to see if I'm missing a dll or something.

Wew lad

But I posted disgust, not smug.

quality, mp3 is hella compressed while flac is nigh lossless raw footage handage. It's almost like listening to a midi file, but with some channels missing.

Extra:
youtube.com/watch?v=UoBPNTAFZMo

God I hope they make a big deal out of the genie guy in the second world. I can already see the headlines about how the genie is racist towards arabs

Works for me under wine. Using d3dx9, quartz, vcrun2010-2013, xact, xinput, and xna40 in this prefix, not sure what all the game actually needs, though.

This game is so good, hard as balls for me but wew it feels so good when you take down a boss.

It's not impossible, it's just like the half-circle moves with the addition of the up key.

Can you parry the candy-lady's floating head? I feel like you should be able to since it's pink, but I could never manage it.

I feel like I shouldn't even look at screenshots so I don't spoil myself on whatever creative ideas they have for bosses later. That gobstopper's death animation has to be one of the nicest touches I've seen so far.

this doesn't look that fun. looks like an average platformer

so why the fuck is everywhere blowing up about it?

Good art, good soundtrack, clickbait-friendly meme difficulty.

It's at least worth a pirate

Aesthetic, difficulty, ost.

What was your first upgrade? Mine was the Dash Invincibility and now that I mapped dash to Left Trigger and Shoot to Right trigger it feels like Im playing Megaman Zero with better bosses

I suck

That's the one I took, the three charms I've seen (health up, constantly filling special, and invincible dash) don't seem to be too OP either/

I got Contra's spread. It's great.
Unfortunately I also got this bubble crap.
Don't buy the bubbles

It's barely even a platformer, or a run and gun, it's a boss rush. The bosses are mostly separate to the levels and there are more than twice as many bosses as levels.

What happened?

I got something you can suck.
GG faggot

probably , uncompressed audio files take up a lot of room.

I feel the biggest problem with trying to play it as opposed to normal bullet hells is that your hurtbox is fucking huge, so even if there's very little stuff coming at you, you must rely more on exploiting patterns than on your reflexes.

Extra life so I could take on level 1.

Heyhey do you have any more music?

I like how low the resolution can go

Lest we forget.

Did you tried pressing the "dash" button?

...

Get out of the habit of using that term

Homing shot. Triple shot's the one I've found most useful so far, although its super move sucks

I found this really good classical guitar composer from Paraguay.
For something soothing but more modern I like Bob Acri:
youtube.com/watch?v=I6PHgtdxFrY

Can't think of many situation where that purchase was a good idea.

This is soothing for me as well, thank you. Goodnight!!

Night

This game is fucking brutal, I have no doubts that it will give me arthritis on my right thumb using an XBONE controller if i play it any longer. which i will I got burnt out but im having fun with vidya again Holla Forums! Thanks for the mega OP, today you are not a fag!

Why would you need to do that though, the game runs fine on my GTX 610 toaster.

AngryJoe is struggling with the frogs boss. I can't believe he's sucking worse than DSP, and Joe has a co-op partner and still hasn't beat him yet.

The spreadshot. It's honestly not as useful in whittling down health as I hoped.

I've personally been trying to beat the game without using that ever, but it feels like the game is balanced around you having it later on. All the more satisfying when I do beat the game. Fuck that cop-out shit.

The hurtbox on the little frog's rolling is a pain in the ass to jump over, but with a partner to slap you back in the slots phase shouldn't be too bad.
Or is he somehow getting bodied on the hadoukens and fireflies in the first phase?

Really? I found that to be pretty easy. You're using the dash, right?

How? It's one of the earliest and easiest bosses, the second phase is practically a freebie.

See, this is what I meant in the last thread about Takahashi's media circus changing perception of the game, I feel like people have convinced themselves the game is going to be really difficult.

totally worth the money

Wait till you get to the Buzzard Bullet Hell guy, you'll find out how shitty your hitbox on your character is, you'll take hits that doesn't even connect with your sprite

I think the dash is more useful than the extra life. Levels are short and bosses are intense. You'll be playing each level at least a couple of times, so overcoming them is more about memorising the best course of action and reacting fast rather than having endurance. The dash makes you invincible, so rather than having one extra hit it's better to have something that negates any number of hits.

Shit, I'm retarded.
Slots are still a colossal pain sp, does that phase get any easier with a co-op buddy?

Are you using shrink?

Thanks OP.

So far the biggest gripe with the game is the lack of health restoring pick ups. Feels like a missed opportunity, would've prevented many, many resets and having to start all over again multiple times while 2 player mode can bring back players with 1hp many, many times over and over.

For comparison: it feels like Mega Man without any health pick ups and co-op. Apart from that minor issue and having weird 2 player controller issues, the game looks and feels really good. Just wish they wouldn't have made stages and bosses a reset fest.

Oh, and the poofy smoke effects when enemies are killed obstructs projectiles and enemies, resulting in getting hit by something you couldn't see and could not anticipate unless you knew in advance.

Already in the second world (although I've replayed quite a few levels with for a better rank or just because I felt like it) and I can't say the game's particularly hard. Not any one level has of yet taken me more than 10-15 minutes to complete overall, usually less. So I don't get what the fuss is about.
Still, the game's quite good. Bosses are my favorite thing about vidya, so boss rush type of games are always welcome, not to mention the mesmerizing presentation and animation.

...

Fucking casual
part of the fun is doing it until you get it without losing the limited amount of health
Also, fuck the gauntlet stages. I'd rather have more boss battles. Those stages for grabbing coins were a drag. I'd prefer if they had a colossium kind of encounter with small enemies instead of gauntlet spam.

I would agree, except
Do you have an A on Treetop Troubles? I really need some counsel on this one, that and the circus stage on the second island have absurd time requirements for a perfect rank.

I've already seen enough hitbox shittery with the tree full of woodpeckers.
It makes sense for everything that just runs around, but having a platform-shaped projectile-spitting enemy you can't stand on just feels wrong to me.

I'm already on world 3, I'm well fucking aware of how shitty these bosses can get. That dragon fucked me up real good. I'm only stopping because it's getting pretty late.

Well done.
Depends. Do you have a friend?

Do you check it looking at the color of the flagpole?
If so then no. If I remember correctly, the thing I got wrong was the time (actually it was probably the only level where I didn't get the golden timer from the first try).
The thing I would try rushing through the area with the bouncing guys and not trying to retreive the pink ones if you miss 'em, takes a lot of time. Same goes for the wooden statues, some of them can easily be skipped, cause killing 'em takes a lot of time.
Also, if you use the superblast on the boss you almost instantly annihilate him (he also somehow got locked into an animation when I did that, which left him defenseless and easy to finish off).
I'm gonna go and try to get an A there now.

I honestly hadn't noticed, I just checked the list in the menu. Tried the techniques you described but still can't quite hack it, I feel like I'm missing some secret to the level.
Good luck, I'll be interested to hear if it's a universally difficult thing to do or if I'm just bad at this stage

That ain't redtext.

This is.

I also have a question.
When you use your supermove, does it count as using 5 regular EX moves for the counter? That'd be helpful.

I also would advise you to map the dash on the bumper/trigger, makes it much intuitive for me (that's the way I play Megaman X games). I only now thought to check the controls and do that.
And buy that invincibility-dash upgrade (makes it feel almost like you're playing Contra Hard Corps), makes it possible to avoid some attacks and obstacles altogether.

Fuck this game is fun. The last game I played that made me want to re-do stages to get a better score was Assault Android Cactus. Even though I've only beaten like 2 bosses and 1 run n' gun stage getting either a C or B it's really fucking satisfying beating a boss. I knew very little about this game besides seeing a teaser for it back when it was first announced, I had no idea there would be shmup or contra/megaman type levels as well as bosses. The only thing is I wish the weapons at the store had better descriptions, I have no idea what I'm potentially buying so I haven't spent my 5 coins on anything yet.

What's the name of the shitty bubble weapon so I don't buy it accidentally?

The hitboxes are still fuck massive, which plays against everything I know about side scrolling shooters where your hitbox is actually incredibly tiny in comparison to your on screen graphic

Invisidash renders 95% of the games attacks nil if you time it right, like candyland lady and the candycorn, you just dash through him when he comes down to your level and fill him full of spread shot constantly

Yeah, it does, fortunately. Only the bosses have ex moves as part of the rank, though, the run and gun stages count the number of coins you collect instead. And you only have to collect the coins one time for it to count for every rank.

Been a while since I played MMZ but I guess mapping dash to the bumper might be more natural, I haven't personally had any gripes with the configuration.

I mean it's not pixel-sized the way most danmaku games are but it's still very small compared to your normal hitbox, and the start of the animation has i-frames.

...

You can invisidash straight through the gumball machine and the candy corn at the beginning and make it a cakewalk, you poor man

Another tip: Chaser is the best weapon you can bring to this fight, you can take down cupcake with total impunity no matter how much he leaps around and the second phase where she's chasing you across the map as long as you're shooting between up and right you constantly put bullets into her head

It's called lobber.

It may be a difference in the version of wine for some, applications do break between wine versions so it's important to figure out which will work and which wont.

>DSP did better than Takahashi in the fucking tutorial, and were it not for him fucking around he would have done better than him both times Dean played it
MY SIDES ARE LOST TO THE AGES HOLY SHIT

Speaking of the Chaser, I found that to be pretty useful during Grim Matchstick's second phase, due to the moving platforms and fireballs throwing off your aim.

I guess, I didn't try that. I feel like it's more time efficient to just use ex moves or supers against her in that last phase since you get a lot of cards from parrying the rolling peppermints

So world 2 is a huge step up in quality all around the board. Djimmi definitely has to be the most impressive boss visually so far but I know that can change when I mop up the walky levels and really delve into world 3. Also looks like they've started slipping when it came to purging the OST so if you're desperate take a look now, but if you're playing I'd say err on the side of caution and don't spoil yourself too much.

Also if anyone uses the invincibility super you are a filthy casual
Same goes for smoke dodging

God help me i'm shit at vidya but this game is going to make me git gud

He pretty much cleared half the game today

Nice. I can install everything but xna40 for some reason, but it's generating less errors so I think I'm on the right track. Thanks.

I want to laugh, but he still is doing way better than Dean did

If some faggot could just post a torrent to the OST it wouldn't be an issue, idiots keep using easily taken down upload sites

Fuck, forgot MP4. Webm in a while, using Xmedia and hoping the quality doesn't become a crapshoot.
u.teknik.io/q81nj.mp4

I honestly can't tell whether the 3D model background is an in-game model, a CGI render or an actual, handmade model.

It wasn't CGI, I'm pretty sure they tried to follow the old fashioned way of getting 3D setpieces into cartoons like they tried to stay faithful with as many other processes. I think they actually mentioned it in their GDC panel. Atleast in passing.

Well I'll be damned. They're dedicated to their shit, if nothing else.

And webm.

>that snippet of Ride of the Valkyrie in the birdhouse boss

smoke dodging is legit because you have 3 hearts, you gotta time it, and it makes gauntlets faster

The invincibility is not that good. its very short.
The giant damage beam is better

PRO TIPS
1.- chase, contra spread, normal shooter, all you need. the rest are shit
2.- dont bother with Heart, theres another called Twin heart (2 more HP) and the damahe reduction is the same
3.- Coffee is shit because it doesnt stack with damage meter filling. Its either normal meter gain or a fixed rate. you're better off with smoke dodge or twin heart. Auto parry is for scrubs
4.- hold your angle shooting button then down to shoot horizontally down on a platform.
5.- maximize range on dragon boss for first and final phase
6.- hitting bee boss on phase 2 from above is easier on her bee missle attack. Moreover, chase is best for bee boss last phase.

Chase/Spread, Normal/Spread are gonna be your usual combos
Spread is great for add control. Shits on the clown boss and all early bosses.

For the Plane fights, some abilities like smoke dodge do not work, so you're better off just equipping twin heart.

Super #3 is shit and invincibility is very situational. Super #1 is overall best choice (to nuke bosses on problematic phases so you can skip them ASAP)

it doesn't seem too complicated so it should probably run in wine right?

Any native Windows game is too complicated, it's a miracle wine works at all. That being said, I can't get this game to run, might have something to do with my toaster-tier intel HD gpu.

loonix fag here its works in wine perfectly.

It's really good. This game is great. I was honestly expecting something much, much worse.

Fuck people

Post moar toons

cuphead looks like a bullet hell platformer sort of game. is that about accurate?

no

Thanks. I wonder how that weapon that does more damage if you fire it backwards does. I'll probably buy that next

I will never understand this mentality. The only reason I watch people play video games is if they themselves are entertaining and can provide interesting/informative/funny commentary. Watching some boring faggot stare at a screen through a webcam with the only real commentary being saying hello to people in stream chat is boring as shit.

So far only the Buzzard stage is Bullet hell, and so far it's the hardest level in the game

The rest of it is pattern based shooting with variance in the attacks per phase, think a harder metal slug but instead of long stages with boss fights the game is mostly boss fights

==SWING MONKEY, SWING!
==

Really? I thought the dragon was considerably harder, that third phase anyway, those fireballs have an atrocious hitbox.

Holy fuck how long is it?

like three hours if you're dean takaheshi.

Poor right now but I'll give it a pirate, hows the music?

the torrent is only 2gb

This is extremely frustrating to watch

Buzzard kept fucking me up because when he does his three finger bullet shoot the bullets don't come out at the angle he points his fingers, and when the eggs hit the left side of the screen and pop to send shots in your direction they don't come from the absolute left of the screen, but from the very right side of the eggs

That honestly fucked me up the most

The music is probably the best part of the game. I like the music even more than the art style.

Yep but it must be pretty well compressed as the install size is 11gb.

...

Some people really need to get executed

Anyone know how many bosses there are total? Maybe I shouldn't ask because I'd like to be surprised but I was pretty happy to see the third island has seven bosses instead of five, and from the achievement listings it seems like the "Finale" island has multiple bosses too.

I'm only halfway but I'd wager around 35-45ish because some of the gauntlets also have minibosses

Genius. Also, buy or pirate? I'm leaning towards buy because everything looks great.

Pirate it to try it out first. I'm definitely going to buy it because I think it's worth it but try it out yourself to see what mileage you think you'll get out of it. $20 might be a bit steep for some people

forty something

$20 for the game is a fair price just on the basis of quality, everything about it is an AAA+ game in terms of design/sound/look/style

Best of all it's fun

Another "Must have" Indie game next to stuff like Dust and Shovel Knight etc

Have to disagree there. Shovel Knight is an instant classic, though, and the amount of content you get with all the expansion packs (which are actually expansion packs in the truest sense of the word) is just ridiculous.

...

Pirate it first, see if you like it. I did and I'll probably buy it when I get some cash. 20 seems alright for the price,.

Motherfucker, you're telling me they actually beat out Alien Soldier's record of 25 bosses?

I played it for a bit. When my attention isn't divided between multiple things at once I'll play it all the way through.

Robot boss can go fuck itself, I'm glad I got an A the first time I beat it

It's $12 on GoG. Worth more than that, but hey - with the GoG version you get a standalone offline product so if that's your cup of tea, even better.

...

It changes based on region, user. It's $20 in the US.
I ought-a mug you for that pun.

Played for an hour and got to the first flying mission. I was a little worried when I heard it was a boss rush because I always liked the levels in Metal Slug just as much as the bosses, but so far it's fun. Maybe there could be a few more Run and Guns in between bosses to mix it up.

Yeah, I noticed when seeing a GoG screen with $20 on it. Interesting, I didn't know they did adjustments based on region.

Is there an OST download yet?

If only because the Buzzard has the worst fucking hitboxes I have ever seen.
>final stage has invulnerable pill-spitting birds on either side somehow this manages to be the least bullshit part of the fight, but by this point you've probably eaten at least 2 hits from the danmaku stage or the kid, so you have to perfect it

Seriously? the buzzard was perhaps one of the easiest.
Just use the Bomb weapon, the second weapon of the plane

Not that this fixes the issue with hitboxes, but you are using the bomb weapon that an NPC gives you, correct? It might be placebo but I think it makes it a tiny bit easier.

take your shit games elsewhere

If you had said Hollow Knight I'd let you be. If you had said Cave story you'd be fine too. But you had to try and squirm a shit game as if it was on par with this

i just decided to take a break. I hate his first phase, which is pretty much a minute of add-control

It definitely helps ease the pain of junior's egg shield and get to the danmaku faster, but the danmaku still kicks the shit out of me simply because of the positioning it forces you into if you want to do any damage during the attack.

Nice bait faggot.
5/5 easy. the stride piano is excellent
5/5 easy. the hand-drawn animations are really well done.
This is what actually worries me,
the use of the animations and sound effects could've been easily slightly better, but they're still 10/10. things like the gauntlet levels i would've made the animations more satisfying when defeating enemies instead of just them poofing into smoke. I think that's one very easy thing to improve on, but i cut them slack since its indie and kickstarted.

4/5 just because the non-boss stages are a drag. If they were more satisfying, i'd be ok with them. Maybe checkpoints since the gauntlet levels are just coin-gathering mechanic, and if you die it still affects your score for the level so if you wanna get A you still have to do it perfect
Only thing this game could use more is perhaps one more Isle with bosses. that would've been enough content to satiate the player without dragging on. I felt like The last 2 bosses should've been an entire final world not just 2 bosses.
either way excellent game. I'm definitely finishing expert mode but my hand fucking hurts from playing all day. didn't even realize it and its late night. You know a game is good when you lose track of time

Trick is kill the pieces at the same time
use plane bomb on the head when it goes from left to right on that phase
then use super for diamond phase and burn fast

No. Pretty sure isle 1 has 5, Isle 2 has 5, Isle 3 has 7, then there's 2 final bosses, but the Dice Boss has like 6 mini-bosses inside of him, its a mini boss gauntlet.
It's 17 total, 23 if you count mini bosses, 25 if you count the run and gun mini bosses.

This game never made it to Kickstarter. They were doing it out of pocket and took out a mortgage or two before Microsoft stepped in to help them out in exchange for Xbone console "exclusivity".

You could say the devs made a deal with the devil
The irony

Most of the upgrades are useless and the parry system feels like a giant waste of time since its only purpose is to get a better grade at the end. What is it with this parry trend in recent games anyway? It's kinda fun I guess but I don't really understand why it needed to be implemented in a game like this. It would make more sense if hitting a parry increased your super meter or something but otherwise I don't ever see the need to use it 95% of the time. Also smoke dash nearly breaks the game and the gradual super recharge and the Super I is great in flying segments since 1 Super I is enough to remove a phase for most bosses.

It's decent, but if you removed the art direction I have a feeling nobody would give this game any attention at all since the designs are actually pretty simple. It's been a while since I've played a game like this that I actually die in though and the difficulty is at a near perfect for me since I find myself dying 2 or 3 times before clearing some of the levels. Still wouldn't pay more than $5-10 for it though.

Parry increases your super meter, dummy.
I think 20 bucks is a little more than what it should, I agree there.
but holy fuck I had fun so it's ok.

I don't mind entertaining LPs but I'll watch playthroughs to get a feel for a game before I buy it. Playthrough footage has largely displaced online reviews in my purchasing habits.

By the way, the mentality you speak of is called super lazy.

Jesus I can barely notice. And I hit them on nearly every try. Still it should be removed from final score and I generally just don't like it. Probably because I keep finding these games keep pushing it so I'm biased on that aspect.

What are you talking about? It gives you a full card
I agree with you with the scoring for parry but come on.

It does? The fuck then I'm not noticing it. Maybe it's cause I deal damage constantly and use the gradual growth card.

The coffee is garbage. don't use it.
It doesn't stack with your damage dealing card gain. it replaces it.

The description says that it stacks. And I find the recharge rate faster as well which makes it useful for flying segments. Sure you're not thinking of something else?

Finished. Pretty good, but had the following issues:

Too animated sometimes, gets distracting and I'm often never quite sure if I'll get hit by something.
Occasionally strange hitboxes.
Foreground elements cover the playing field.
Could have used a dedicated parry button.

I stuck with smoke dash and charge shot for the most part.

Smoke Dodge is just too good. it neuters mechanics.
i don't think Coffee is as good as Smoke Dodge either way, i found the gain of cards not that fast to be worth sacrificing smoke dodge. For Flying Segments it can be useful, but i rather use twin hearts. Sure, I won't get 2 lasers, ll get 1, but usually i just need to bypass 1 mechanic, not 2.

How do I git gud at parrying?

Smoke Bomb's good for most levels but there's more than a few bosses where it's not incredibly useful. Dragon's a good example. Also
If you get rid of the enemy more quickly it's better for the final score and you're not relying on tanking damage. So far I havn't gotten a single D and only a few C's and I'm at the third island. I can tell the game has a harder mode but I think I'll be burned out and bored of the game by the time I reach it.

Literally just hit A a quarter second before you hit the pink. Think of it more as a mid air melee attack with short range.

Is this the only track in the game with singing outside of the intro?

I'm halfway into the game and so far yes. If this game is smart it will have singing in the final boss music though. Fingers crossed for when I play it tomorrow. Seriously there's nothing better than final boss music going all out

I hate to disappoint you, but I went and listened to the soundtrack because I'm an impatient fuck. Final boss song still sounds good though.

I really just keep dipping in and out of this game. In my opinion the game is way too hard at least the run & gun levels are

I didn't expect a mini nightmare fuel like the half-moon boss. That won't haunt me, but still, that face.

...

Peanut butter isn't an invention, it's a recipe.

play on simple then
simple means retarded

As far as the game goes, I like the aesthetics. I hate platformers though. Wish the devs well.

There's one thing I would have designed differently Parries should return health. Filling your super meter isn't a big enough deal to risk it for them.

Parries shouldn't exist period. But refilling HP would be OP as fuck.

How do I do that

git gud and quit bitching.

Okay what about real help?

Hello?
Ugh I wish the music guy was here

on every level select you have the option of 'simple' or 'normal'

oh yeah and I also don't like

Oh, yes, I already do that then but it's not on the Run & Gun which are the hardest by far.

Play the game and git gud. The mechanics are self explanatory.

That and the parry are pretty shit. But on the fairer end it's not hard at all to do on most levels. And if you're having trouble charging the super you just parry more often.

Finally beat the game. Probably one of the best games I've played this year. FUCK THAT ROBOT HOLY FUCKING SHIT

He's piss easy once you get past the first phase. Which is easily beat if you use a full super on his heart.

The gayme is really fun, but it really shows how a bit of gameplay is enough to make people "hurr, the new dark souls".

This meme has to die.

Yea no though. It would be a lot better if it
There's also a lot of nitpicks I have. Like the foreground blocking your site on a few levels. Like I said before. Not worth more than $10.

I…what? I thought Dark Souls was the Dark Souls of video games. Did this faggot even play Dark Souls?

My biggest complaint is that there are no health bars as you're playing. It just makes the early stages of bosses feel so tedious.

I just did all bosses on expert
Coffee is the highest DPS charm and best for getting A/A+/S
Smoke Dodge is great for many bosses for just wanting to get the clear
Twin heart is good for gauntlets and for learning the bosses
I used Twin heart on early expert then learned patterns, re-did bosses with coffee and I got As

Cuphead was one of the worst cases of artificial difficulty I've seen in a game. I'd die just because I didn't know all the bosses moves yet or because of bad RNG. It's literally just trial and error, very little skill involved.

All of the different weapons and abilities were also garbage besides smoke bomb. I didn't feel like I was becoming more powerful by learning new abilities at all. Very bad character progression. Maybe the abilities later in the game are better but I didn't feel like going that far.

I play video games to relax and have fun but the moment it starts frustrating me and raising my blood pressure I'm uninstalling. Good art design but not a good game. And before you say git gud I've been playing games including side-scrollers for years so I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about.

Well how's about this:
What if I told you that skill is just memorization. Experience confers skill and experience creates memory.

beat the game then we'll listen to you
git gud ;^)

Damn. Self-rekt, son.

I have to admit I did die like 12 fucking times on the first level but that's because i have a legitamate medical condition that fucks with my coordination - dysgraphia
