Gamecube Thread

Are the sales numbers of the gamecube the canary in the coalmine of the rotten state of the industry? normalfags and dudebros flocked to the shovelware machine and ignored the outstanding library of awesome games that the gamecube offered.

What are your favorite games? Your hidden gems?

I just dont think there are many games to discover and i found a lot of Nintendo main line installments to be extremely underwhelming on the gamecube.

A reminder that this is the best of the entire series.

Has to be Metroid Prime and Viewtiful Joe. Most played games when I was kid were probably F-Zero GX, Kirby's Air Ride, and Super Monkey Ball 2.

These were my jam

I remember begging for Chibi-Robo when I was young and being extremely disappointed when I never got it.

Fucking loved Battalion Wars

I enjoyed Star Fox adventure allot back when it came out but going back to it it's really rough around the edges.
Cutting the General Scales boss just so the game can go "oh look it was Andross the whole time lol" was a load of bullshit.

I think Assault holds up allot better. It's a same that the Star fox is so mismanaged at Nintendo, I wish they could have refined and improved on what Assault did.

It was a good exchange. I liked kirby air ride

MY NIGGA

The rainbrow road on that one has one of the most brutal sections on it with the fucking boosted corner. Good luck grinding on that shit.

I haven't gotten every game I wanted so far(mostly due to laziness), but every game on this list (minus Billy and Mandy) is a must play.

Did you suck his benis ha ha just wondering dont mean to offend

Gay

Shit was great.

Wow I wanted to cobtribute to your thread but you post like a brand loyal drone. Why must you act like a faggot OP?

POST GAMECUBE PORN

...

All I've got is Gameboy porn

so are gc component cables less than $40000000000 yet?

No, but HDMI modding is only $50-100. So that's something for now.

The gamecube was overrated as fuck. It had some great first party games but that's all it had going for it.

Coupled with a shitty controller, and inability to play media that other systems at the time were able to do. No wonder it failed, but thanks to nostalgia I can sit on my limited edition White Mario Smash Football one and sell it off to a collector when it gets worth even more than the stupidly high cost it currently is.

>>>/ovens/

It also had some decent games by Capcom that were exclusive for some time until they got ported to other stuff like RE4.

I thought it was a decent system. I never owned one but several friends did and I remember liking quite a few of the games.

I replayed several of them when Nintendont came out on the Wii a few years back. I was surprised how good some of them still look, relatively speaking. It was a solid system, just needed a deeper library.

Tell me about this.

Is RE4 for $25 leaf dollars a good deal? I remember seeing Battalion Wars, but I don't know what it goes for.

Just get the PC version of RE4 HD. The Cube has become a scalper system.

I loved Super Mario Sunshine as a kid. I never managed to beat it, because fuck those blue coins.
Best thing about the Gamecube was the dual stage triggers. They made Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion's controls make so much sense. The only controller I know that still has them is the Steam controller, sadly.

Dude wut, birds don't live underground. What point are you even making?

en.wiktionary.org/wiki/canary_in_a_coal_mine#English

Just get a Wii and softmod it to run GC stuff.

Third person shooter with cel-shaded visuals and the original voice cast back to do new lines for the game. It was a decent B-game at the time, not sure how well it's aged, or even if the GCN version was any good. I only have the Xbox version.

Was a pretty sweet trip

For anyone that's interested, this guy has a bunch of gamecube roms on his server.

the-eye.eu/public/rom/Nintendo Gamecube/

He also has stuff for a bunch of other systems.

Me personally, I've been going through and replaying Metroid Prime on dolphin after over a decade. It's aged really well and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Are there really no off brand versions available?

Why is there no mention of TTYD in this thread yet?

I didn't have terrible third party offerings. At least not as bad as Nintendo's later consoles. There were a lot of games that appeared on all three consoles. Timesplitters for example.

At this point, unless you already had a lot of what you'd been interested in prior to price hikes, I can't recommend actually picking up Gamecube titles unless you're willing to go the slow route to avoid scalper prices on occasion. System's practically "3D SNES" in terms of being a scalper magnet. That said, Double Dash should NOT be remotely near $70; it's still about $30 where I live. And I want to say Resident Evil 4 is like $12 where I am; even in maplebucks I'd think $25 is too much.

Anyhow, do what says. Make sure it's an older one though, so you can utilize both loaders and physical backwards compatibility. Wii Component cables are also a lot cheaper than Gamecube ones if you're wanting to make the games you're playing look visually better.

How young are you that you've never heard that phrase before.

I think there's still a point to be had with Nintendo having pissed off a lot of third party support during fifth gen, but some did make more of a return with the Gamecube. However, a number of those third party offerings were multiplats anyhow, or later became multiplats, which might have dampened the impact of Nintendo having more than just first/second party games again. System still had good exclusives though, and multiplats were usually better on the technical end than on the PS2. Library itself was just rather small, and the odd disc format compared to DVD as a medium might have made some developers leery if their games would require two discs (though some opted to just reduce quality/remove content until their games fit on one disc, like what happened with Evolution Worlds), even if the company in question could afford two discs.

Could be worse. Could be the faggot that usually makes PS2 threads, who without fail, purposefully puts inflammatory stuff right into the OP to bait arguing with him to quickly bolster the reply count at cost of discussion quality.

the gc component cable is mean to have a DAC inside it, a standard cable wouldn't work. it's kinda like old console cables that had resistors inside them so they didn't have to include it in the console itself, a DAC is more complicated though.

Both of my Gamecubes have dead laser diodes, and the cost of the laser assemblies in conjunction with the pain in the ass it is to replace them just doesn't make it worth my time (which I would admittedly spend sitting in the dark with my head in my hands) to repair. I've softmodded my Wii, but I have yet to acquire a hard drive for it. I should perhaps download some games before the Internet gets worse than it is right now, in case I change my mind in a couple years.

Would probably be a good idea, especially for games that are otherwise expensive/hard to find, at least as a priority. Places like emuparadise might also start doing more pre-emptive removals of games that might see rereleases/remasters in the future, the way they've been doing so for SNES games, as well as PS2 games of late.

I think I've got a bookmark to some sort of listing as to what drives are confirmed to/confirmed not to work with the Wii. I'll dig around and see if I can find it.

Nope and there never will be because Nintendo were retarded in putting their proprietary video decoder in the cable itself, plus the cable was manufactured in limited numbers sold only through their Japanese website. GameCube models released after mid 2004 don't even have the Digital AV port needed for 480p.

I've heard HDMI mods for GameCube are of bad quality and supposedly fail often. Using a pre-2011 Wii would be better and far cheaper.

Admittedly not sure how up to date this is at this point.
>wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

You might also want to double check loader compatibility with particular games, though again I'm not sure off the top of my head how up-to-date these are:

I've got everything that was ever put on cartridge, prior to the DS, I believe, including the damn Odyssey, but I have maybe a dozen disc game ISOs. Considering building a fileserver, but I'm waiting for the price of SSDs to decrease. Thanks for hunting out the lists.

Only if you let a drunkard cunt yank your Gamecube off of the platform it's sitting on, so it falls onto the floor and lands hard.

...

Cartridge-based games (at least of the older sort; I don't mean, say, Vita games which can be 4gb+ each) are likely a lot easier to download/archive full sets of, given the maximum file size per game involved. Meanwhile, with the switch to disc based media, individual file sizes can get a lot bigger. If you want personal advice on prioritizing, I'd say that beyond the games you already know you want to play (or play again if old favorites), start with games that are horrendously expensive, never came to your region, or have been patched somehow (be it Jap dubbed, English translated, or bugfixed; Gamecube to my knowledge hasn't seen much of any of that though). Try as they might, it's next to impossible to fully scrub stuff off the net after it's been uploaded, but it's likely better to acquire stuff while it's easier to do so (and for what's already gone, you might try hitting share threads for specific uploads).

Reported for lewd.

YES
THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT

...

Thinking of replaying that closer to Halloween. Heard something I don't think I've tried before and it seems like good incentive to do next time.

...

Source? I've seen this panda before.

black controllers fucking silver(white) controllers, subtle.

Yeah, it was just a shovelware machine ignore the giant list of actual good games it had in comparison to that shit cube that was nearly only 1st party games worth a damn.

Mareholic

The most popular machines always have the most shovelware, Sonygger. Now go on and make your ps2 thread for the billionth time with your bait OP.

Did you seriously just said that? Do we have an actual consolewarrior here?

Wario World 2 cancelled for being too offensive.

I was expecting that mod to return on Mario Kart 8 DX, good thing I didn't buy that piece of shit.

Which one of you started it?

Are you a spic?

Harvest Moon: Magical Melody still maintains the title of best Harvest Moon.

This nigga gets it, Adventures was a fun Zelda clone and Assault was great.

Why didn't they just give you guns AND the magic staff for both games?

Wut?

Chibi-Robo is actually my favorite game, I'm very disappointed that they basically killed the series with Zip-Lash. At least Pikmin stayed alive, r-right

Okaeri got fan translated a while back if you haven't looked into playing it yet.

Harvest Moon: Magical Melody
I think the only downside I had for this game was not being able to marry the fairy goddess otherwise it's the last "good" HM

Yeah I've played it, thanks for the heads up anyway. Really liked it, definitely better than Park Patrol in my eyes

That game is the absolute best weird horror game ever. Got it with Four Swords and Zelda collection, lost about a month of my life without even noticing. Good times.

The worst part of Adventures was that the Arwing sections were mediocre, but then in assault they were good again.

That's exactly what I mean by refined and improved. The Staff had a lot of cool powers that could be expanded upon, It's lame that it just disappears after Adventure, Krystal still has that fucking staff.

Now that I'm thinking about it there are allot of cool things you could do if you combined the ideas of Adventures and Assault.
You could have it so there is both a world to explore and Arwing levels. It would be cool if when exploring the world you can play as everyone on the Team and not just Fox. Everyone could have there own ways of interacting with the environment Krystal can have the staff with all the powers from Adventures. Fox and Falco could use cool gadgets like wrist grappling hooks or Jet packs and shit, in place of the staff.

Shit, Rare already made the game i'm describing too it was, Jet Force Gemini. like imaging that game but with Star Fox characters and Arwing levels. That would be great.
But instead Nintendo had to reboot the series for a second time.

Really glad I got a copy of it for $15 complete and in good condition during Gamestop's "Fuck stocking this system anymore sales" a number of years back. Saw one in much worse condition the other day for $40.

Still feels good I got to ask Dyack a question about it when he dropped by Holla Forums that one night. But I suppose a fair amount of anons got to do the same anyhow.

No, they're just the end result of pigheaded decisions, like when Iwata claimed that nintendo's consumers don't want online when asked why the Broadband adapter wasn't utilized more, and decades of fucking over 3rd party devs, leaving first/second party nintendo by themselves for the most part, aside from the occasional middle market exclusive, and multiplat ports from AAA whores like EA and Ubisoft

There's actually been research on the digital out port on the GC which is why we now have HDMI mods that make use of progressive scan. Some people are developing plug n play solutions for the digital port for both component and HDMI, but I don't know of any that you can actually buy right now.

I finally got my hands on this game so I can beat it for the third time.
Eternal Darkness is that game that you can never stop shilling.
It's complicated to make more games like this because most of its content requires not just skill but actual talent and inspiration.
Fuck yes fuck yes fuckity fuck yes!

I hope you're keeping your saves because you actually need to beat the game 3 times to get the real ending.
Remember you had to choose one of three colors in the first mission, when playing as the roman soldier?
Second time you play, the color you choosed first will be unavailable…

First time I played I choosed blue, so enemies stole mana from me (manageable) but you quickly get massive bonus to mana itself which makes you invincible.
Then I played red, enemies make double damage. The bonus to HP is good but mana was better.
Looking forward to play the green route, I will only play during the night in a dark room for maximun atmosphere.

Yes, I know. I've gotten Eternal Mode before. This time though I'm going to have to do another standard Xel'lotath insanity run, as what I'm wanting to try is to see some sanity effects I don't think I've bothered with before (on account of one chapter where you barely see any horrors from beyond the veil until a good ways AFTER anyone you can interact with, thus requiring summoning to reduce sanity enough prior). Honestly, I do wish that Eternal Mode only made it so you couldn't take health/mana damage, as sanity effects are a big reason to play the game, and being immune to them doesn't feel as much of a reward as the other two.

Something I liked was how while the same set of five locations were reused, for most of them on return visits the level design went deeper into the complexes, and you could see how the places changed over the years. Hell, the latter's part of how Oublie gets a historical pass: while the cathedral it was based on wasn't built until after Anthony the Page's chapter, he only explores what is later known as "The Old Tower" and the mausoleum beneath it, leaving the chapel proper an extension built onto it over the years in that incarnation of the world.

Peter wasn't a soldier, he was a war photographer.
