Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Why did so many people hate this game again? If anything, I'd say it has aged better than either of the other two games, especially Two Thrones, and is one of the rare examples where the plot going grimdark was an improvement and made sense as an extension of the overall story.

God of War took the idea and made it 100 times better. Move on buddy.

Sands of time was the only good one OP

I loved it, however I was and still am an edgelord

WW was my favorite of the trilogy back in the day. I waited before getting it because the reviews whined about it being worse than the previous game.

took a game with very boring combat and made it the focus instead of expanding on the puzzle-platforming.

They took something magical and ruined it by making it dark and edgy. It's basically an entirely different game with different characters.

...

It was the worst of the trilogy.

Nah two thrones was worse.

I disagree

Two Thrones was literally just a sloppy retread of the first game.

I respect Warrior Within for at least trying something new. Hell, even that Forgotten Sands game Ubisoft put out a few years ago was better than Two Thrones.

...

...

Forgotten sands is such a bizarre game. It had two completely different games for the Wii and PC/360/PS3
The wii one is similar to the Sands of Time trilogy while the more modern one was a strange mixture of Musou and Prince of Persia.

Warrior Within is a button masher's wet dream. Or a least it was before Shadow of Mordor went even beyond.

Everyone complained about the bastardization and commercialization of Warrior Within, but back then I wasn't redpilled enough to correctly frame what happened. They jewed the series, that's what happened.

Probably the only worthwhile sequel of SoT, but still a step behind. The reboot wasn't that bad, but the character design was as rotten as DmC, and the devs were similarly condescending toward the fanbase (they named the prince's donkey, Farah).

When, why and how come I've never heard of this?

Sands of Time had a more engaging combat system. That said, the swords were fucking beautiful as fuck.

Because Its apparently just a port of the original for mobiles made by gameloft, the kings of shovelware

I preferred SOT because of the fairy tale style narration, but WW at least tried something new, even if it wasn't as great.
By far the best thing to come out of Two Thrones was the CSI bastardisation. You know the scene I'm talking about.

It's been a while user. Please, elaborate.

I once read on a now ancient Penny Arcade newspiece, that WW's demo had different voiceovers: more desperate and less edgy. Anyway remember that emos became sjws, so count this as an early casualty in the war.

Nevermind, I remember. It was the thing with the "level complete" shit, for breaking some code or something.

...

It was the beginning of the edge.
It could have been a nice game on it's own, but taking an, admittedly pretty bleak, imaginative and magical game series and turning it into this didn't sit well with pretty much anybody above the age of 15.
This was my second PoP game (first one being the one on NES) and I never finished it. Or the prequel or the sequel. I just get lost in the environment and can't be arsed to reload a checkpoint when I fuck up and sands of time aren't enough to pull me out of a certain hole.

Huh. Now the intro makes much more sense.
I always thought it clashed too strongly against the actual game.

Same. It was a very fun package to play with, but the lack of enemy variety did hurt it a bit.
I understand why people didn't like it, though.

Forgotten Sands was shit.
Very short with poor combat. The platforming was all right I suppose.

For me, the worst offender would be that 2008 remake.

I really wish I knew of a game with similar duelling mechanics.

...

...

Oh and before I forget

...

I think I didn't like Warrior Within that much because it felt tonally different from SoT. The Prince didn't feel like the The Prince, he wasn't voiced by Lowenthal, just…everything felt edgier and darker, like it was trying to hard.

yeh

This chick is perfect for cosplaying her…
gotta miss when western devs designed hot bitches and had hot bitches do things like this.

how much of an attention depraved slut you have to be to dress like this and get on a catwalk?

/this. The others were kind of decent, but were not as fun. Even though they got rid of those annoying flying bats that pestered you on ledges.

pennyless

It was buggy as shit, and had too much backtracking

nice dubs
women want men with big penises, therefore they dress up sexily to attract a big dicked alpha.
Also what this guy said

Didn't 2008 also have some shitty excuse for a open world hub area? I vaguely recall running around collecting shit in an area like that.

The first PS2 game was the best and still is. Has a soft spot for me. I remember replaying that and BG&E over and over 100% until I knew every nook and cranny

I'm with these guys.

so betas dont find that shit arousing?

thats why Im wondering, she isnt even taking it off, unlike in stripclubs or in porn

Because she likely can't fuck or dance, and there are betas that will still throw money at the sad whore and companies that want their products promoted. Most con girls are paid models, after all.

they do, but the alpha's are the ones who get the girl.

god of war is fucking boring

Agreed. I was pretty excited for GoW when someone told me it'd be like PoP. It was nothing like it.

Because they're not true warriors.

I

STAND ALONE

I didn't hate it but Two Thrones is garbage.

that chick is better looking then the in game character.

SHABABUU BI BABARAPPABA

All the games that I rented, shrugged and forgot about are beloved by Holla Forums. You guys are pretty mediocre.

Yeah I loved the swords, and although generic sand monsters was still a thing I actually was legitimately spooked by the Dahaka.

Okay, this game might be pretty fun

oh yeah, I forgot about that

Yes, it did have a hub.
It's been such a long time though, I don't remember anything about that part.

The whole game was a terrible missed opportunity.

Well, it is significantly better than most modern games in the genre, but that's not saying much.
Stick with it and explore as much as possible to get the health upgrades if you can.

Warrior Within also was one of the few games that actually handled time loops in a good way instead of just fucking it all up.

The only thing memorable from the PS2 Prince of Persia games was the one that used that stupid fucking Godsmack song in it's trailer.

I WANT OFF THIS TIMELINE

I smolder with generic rage.

I played them when I was fairly young and I loved both SoT and WW immensely, and I always group them together whenever I formulate a top games list even though they're incredibly different tonally. Well actually I just say the SoT trilogy because it's easier even though T2T is lazy as fuck. I remember being so fucking hyped for that game. I had so many theories for it. I thought they would go the route of 'future sand corrupted Prince invading his own empire' but they went with Vizier and it was lame as fuck.
I think I loved WW immediately because the first games I've ever played and loved were fairly dark. It wasn't edge for me, it was just the aesthetic I really liked. I even liked the Godsmack tracks, next to Stuart Chatwood middle eastern metal stuff. Sands of Time stands out to me as a game that I always cite for having a genuinely good love story. Maybe because I'm a sucker for tragic romances. Any other games like that?

I know the game has a lot of fans here but goddammit did I dislike PoP 2008. It still looks beautiful but it's so incredibly boring. And I'm not even talking about the no death thing, but the incredibly massive buffer the game has when it comes to platforming. You don't even have to have any modicum of attention or skill to play through those sections. Have to get past this ring on the roof? Click the button to do that seconds before you actually arrive at the ring and it will work. That and tedious collecting.

What do you guys think of the older games? I love them. One of my dream games is making a clone with Kof13 tier sprites.

An user here told me that Ubisoft repurposed all their T2T resources towards the first Ass Creed (which I was also massively hyped for). Just imagine exploring the giant city of Babylon

Don't forget the game breaking bug if you saved at the fountain before the final boss like a reasonable gamer.

I
STAND ALONE
INSIIIIIIDE

Because it took the actual fun tone of SoT and ruined it with emo angst.

WW introduced a lot of cool ideas in combat and an interesting yet practically detached story from the previous and next installments.

TT was my favourite of the series gameplay wise and I really enjoyed that guy who would comment on your fighting while you played.
Sands of time had the best story and fun, Disney atmosphere.

The only part I remember of TT was playing it on the Wii and thinking the stealth kills sections, especially when you would hang directly above people and strangle them, was the coolest thing ever.

Too bad I couldn't beat the final boss before returning the rented copy because the motion controls were absolutely no where near accurate for what felt needed 1/6th of a second QTE accuracy for the boss.

WW was a headache where you easily got lost, especially near the end game with the environmental puzzles.

The Dark Prince? I liked him well enough, I just expected more of him plot wise.

WW was a bit metroidvania-ish yes. I remember getting confused at a point in the game where to go, a little past getting the Wraith mask. Playing as the Wraith was really fun. It sounds like you played them a long time ago, you should replay them. Hell I should replay them.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!

PoP is a bit too old school for my taste. Having only two hours to rescue the Princess and no real way to save makes the trial and error gameplay a bit too painful. PoP2 is more of the same but its more fun thanks to the improved animation a graphics. That said, I still love the originals because they spawned the Cinematic Platformer. Without PoP we wouldn't have Flashback or Oddworld.

I bought WW on steam like 5 years ago because of the game breaking bug, but never got around to playing it past the opening tutorial beach level.

I'm just at a state where I enjoy reminiscing about old games rather than playing them.
Thanks for the encouragement though.

True but DAMN

...

I liked warrior within better than two thrones and the first one. two thrones was kind of lame. and the sands of time was all about puzzle and shit.

Holy fuck shut the fuck up. the sands of time was a curse that was going to eventually kill him and everyone he loved. of course it's going to be dark.

god of war was just some edgy faggot who killed his own family and blamed it on the gods.

god of war was just some edgy faggot who killed his own family and blamed it on the gods.

Back then I though it was ridiculous, but nowadays I feel really nostalgic about edgy emo angst characterization and aesthetics.
At least it's tons better than the SJW regressive crap we have now.
That said, I actually liked WW even back then. Considering the backstory, it made sense for the Prince to become edgy and pissed. After losing your family and being chased non-stop relentelessly for seven years by a creature that couldn't be killed, he just stopped giving a fuck. It's a lot better fleshed out and reasonable than Kratos, for example.

Is this YOUR video?

The Prince yells a lot when he hits a solid object or his attack is blocked. Even outside of combat he sounds so frustrated it's hilarious and annoying.

I remember wishing there'd be a second ending if you stayed and fought the Dark Prince and now I learn there could have been 3 endings. Damn.

YOU BITCH
Speeding up the cutscene at exactly that point was one hell of a laugh.
I honestly want someone to take the ideas behind the combat of WW and flesh them out. This idea of mapping every button to a certain action and then making combos out of them is pretty neat and to an extent reminds me of DMC. It's such a shame it's pretty much a dial-a-combo system when you get down to it though.

HAIL SUPER SATAN.

Friendly reminder that the angst is a completely logical and acceptable character development because The Prince was extremely stressed out and sleep deprived due to being hounded by the Dahaka 24/7, which would cause anybody to become a bad-tempered arsehole.

see, that's where you're wrong. Godsmack's metal grind was shit compared to the arabic-themed rock from SoT and TT. It detracted from the whole experience.

with shit color theory. But yeah they were well designed at least

Oh yeah? Then where's the completely logical and acceptable character development where the prince discards the cool as fuck cloak he has during the opening cutscene for it to never be seen again ingame?

Well the storm stopped so he didn't need it anymore. It would just get caught on everything anyway.

but the rule of cool

The first one was infinitely better. The third a sad mockery. WW was the first one I played and definitely enjoyed. The Dhaka chases were the best part.

Cloaks are gay.

My main problem was that I got the wraith bug 1st time and that killed my interest instantly

You're gay.

The game was fucking amazing.
It was a great contrast to the Sands of Time prince.
The Dahaka sequences were great and the development of the prince's despair up until he almost gave up completely until he found out about the mask was fantastic.

I'd say it's the strongest in the trilogy in terms of gameplay and story.

GIVE ME THE DAGGERRRRR

THIS IS NOT WHAT THE DAGGER PROMISED

How is the 2008 game?

Pretty fucking dull, TBH. It also doesn't help that the story is supposed to be sorta serious but the MC sounds way too goofy and like a wisecracking smartass.

Anyone played the dreamcast pop game?

Its just a 3D port

can't be persian without the nose

it's terrible, like the first tomb raider

shit controls, shit level design, not enjoyable at all

...

...

PoP:WW
Has definetly aged a millon times better than almost anything else Ubishit has made ever since but the shit it gets it rightfully gets for being shit.
Also there's no damn fucking way in hell this is even comes close to Two Thrones in terms of quality
TT is everything right with WW and more, minus half the things everyone complained about WW

First Tomb Raider is the best one, tho!

How does it feel having the Most Shit opinions on all of Holla Forums?

...

are you on drugs?

Didn't care for the edge back then, don't care for it now. Story in video games was never a selling point. In terms of gameplay WW just worked.
(checked)
but they are not wrong

Not only do you have shit opinions you also defend TT.

the only reason why TT was a thing is because faggots like you made The Edgelord Within a success and still defend it to this day

No faggot, TT was trying to be sands of time instead of innovating because cucks like you kept bitching and wanting their nostalgia.

No dumb-dumb , TT was trying to be a middle ground sollution to please both the ones that wanted a proper SoT sequel and the Edgelord Within retards ; that's why it's shit

Precisely Because retards lick you kept bitching and wanting Sands of time again. They gutted what was great about both of them and made that shit.

which brings us back full circle to where we started

...

Dubs confirm the idiocy. Is this the prequel meme from Holla Forums? What next, are we going to glorify Halo and Madden?

and you kill one, what's your point?

You're on a fookin island, everything was connected and it was great.

I don't even know what the fuck you mean with that.

Did the game rape your mom or something?

Oh, it's bait. All right then.

Baelish fag btfo with his shit opinions.

He didn't fly so good.

...

Last two seasons of GoT were so bad it made me cringe but I still want to watch it till the end

Kaileena was more interesting than Farah anyway. Especially in TTT, where the cranked up Farah's annoying factor.

This is like the one Prince of Persia I didn't play. Am I really missing out on much?

...

TTT was'nt that bad.
Loved the music.

Agree, most characteristic set of swords i have ever seen in any videogame without being cuhraayzee colorful anime ones.

I loved this game

Hitler dubs confirm. I just can't stand how they fill everything with jewllywood tier comedic shit. the actors barely manage to display the character they used to play.

It was shit but i loved the graphic design.

I love the visuals for this game, I wish it would get a sequel or something just so I can look at more dreamy stylized middle eastern scenes.

I want Tumblr to leave.

Those are fighting words, motherfucker. Sands of Time was objectively the best.

I like SoT, but I feel like the parkour mechanics haven't aged all that well.

I don't recall it being any different than WW/TTT's, besides maybe being a bit heavier.

Fine take it.

That's a near-perfect ass, damn dude

Wow that was dumb.

This just makes me wish there was more porn of the characters.

...

holy fuck dat ass

I'd post some, but I'm on a NoFap streak.

I miss this series a lot and have incredibly mixed feelings about it being dead now. On one hand I'm glad AssCreed got to take the fall instead of PoP, but on the other I really want another game in the same vein as PoP with the same setting.
