what the fuck is this gigantic pile of shit? i had my whole squad destroyed in the tutorial level where you had to recover that unstable piece of alien technology. mostly because of the fact that i refused to shoot my own squaddie, but also because if its like anything like the previous game, killing the sectoid will sever the connection and kill the squadmate as well. so what the fuck? how is someone supposed to act against that shit in the early game? its like the developers, instead of developing situations that challenge the player much more because you're fighting an underground war actually just ended up adding a pile of OP shit and called it an "exemplary example of how turn based tactics games are played"

They changed it from the base game? In base Xcom2, killing a sectoid kills its zombie and frees your comrade.
Also, the "kill the mind link" thing only happens one way. If you killed the buffed sectoid in EW, it killed the buffer, not the other way around, iirc
