What is the best animated video game of all time?

What is the best animated video game of all time?

Probably the Total War games for 3D games, and the SRW games or Vanillaware games for 2D games.

Metal Slug 3.

Skyrim, it just works.

You are epic and very funny haha please be my friend lol I loled so hard my batooty made a pooty xD haha

Well, the dragons are pretty good in that Mr Howard. But there are many much better animated games out there like sotc (still the best animated horse in gaming).

Devil May Cry 3.

Get on my level.

I thought Transformers Devastation was pretty well done, they didn't really cheap out on the transformations and still kept things fast. I can confirm because I was stuck on a shitty integrated card at first and got to see them in slo-mo.

Just about anything created by Vanillaware.

The Last of Us

2B is one of the best animated things I have ever seen in a videogame

Space Ace, faggot, and don't you forget it.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle, by virtue of pose autism and trying to recreate in betweens when they shouldn't even be physically possible.

I know of this one game with really good spritework, but alas it's too obscure for you redditors and I don't want to taint it.

Why? DMC4 had better animations.

MGSV is decently animated, but that might stem from the animations being mostly mo-capped. On another note, I always thought that the Bloody Roar series was always quite well animated, even the older PS1 titles.

Earthworm Jim and Heart of Darkness.

Fallout 4 bro, definitely! This games got animation AND graphics. What more could anyone want?

The game's hardcore as hell too, it's like skyrim but with guns!

If we're gonna go with platinum games, legend of korra was their best animated game imo. They couldn't do the crazy clusterfuck animations they usually do (because of the license) so it all looks nice and fluid.

You do see the part where the enemy snaps from one position to another with no transition, right? It's during the juggle.

Yeah but Korra moves really well though. Dunno how you can avoid that kind of jarring switching without involving a physics engine and once you get physics involved the whole thing goes to fuck usually, becoming slower.

MGSV tbh

Dorf Fort

I really really like this post.

Flashback, the CD-ROM game on a cartridge!

Looks like a slightly higher res prince of persia.

...

Whomever animated 2b is a fucking saint. Can someone post the webm of 2b walking around with her outfit where her skirt is blown off?

Man absolver could have been one slick singleplayer game.
Fucking hell.

The Ratchet & Clank reboot has fantastic animations.

Prince of Persia is the grandfather of cinematic platformers. Also in this style: Another World, Blackthorne, Heart of Darkness, and Oddworld.

Oddworld is a great game but I don't recall the animations being anything but servicable.

Oops, I almost forgot this one.

Someone post elena from street fighter 3 third strike

Yeah, I strayed from the topic here, I just meant its gameplay style was cinematic platformer.

I think you meant to say: What video game has the best animation of all time.

Impossible Mission in C64 also arguably counts and predates even PoP by half a decade.

But it was less interesting and Nero is fucking lame.

Like fucking clockwork

I'm not talking about the game, strictly the animations.

Now that I think about it, Last Guardian is up there too.

That would be Karateka

...

I just want to talk about videogames. Especially those games that have pretty good animations.

Stay there and never come back

I like some of them, but the problem is the actual body/anatomy mechanics of their weapon swings are retarded. Consider the one you posted. If that guy knew anything at all about swordfighting (or basic efficiency in moving your body) he would be attacking twice in that animation, not once. Notice how he brings the sword down to a very low angle to draw out the strike. As he does so he could very easily perform a diagonal downward cut, but that doesn't happen. Why can't we have a fantasy game with decent fighting animations?

Keep in mind these animations link up with each other. If you perform a light attack before, you are in position to perform the heavy attack in the gif, then the character does what you said he should basically.

In dark souls your character fights as good as you tell him.

I just made a new one for you. The only other one I have was from day 1 and has awful quality. I cropped it to get the most out of the bitrate.
I'm only just now getting around to playing it.

I guess. It's just a massive waste of energy to bring a weapon that weighs half your body weight down from a high position like on your shoulder without striking on the way down. But I suppose if they didn't have wasteful options like that there would also be little room for the player to improve.

Okay, now I understand why so much porn of 2B gets posted after not playing this game.

A lot of the animation in Yakuza 0 impressed me, the heat moves and facial animation in cutscenes in particular. The new cutscenes in Kiwami were similarly very good in terms of animation, though the cutscenes adapted from the original game do look odd at times because they use PS2 animations on PS4 models. Webm related is one of my favourite heat moves in 0/Kiwami in terms of animation, especially the feint at the start and the leg movements at the end.

Apart from them, Samus' animations in Super Metroid are really fluid.

This too.

I remember that there was a two handed sword in Dark Souls 2 (I think it was the Flamberge) that made your character recoil into close and hanging defensive stances after you swung it. I thought it was really cool at first but it just ended up annoying me because the animation's purely for show and you couldn't make use of the stance at all. Dark Souls 3 added stances for a lot of swords that you could actually make use of and use different attacks from, which was nice, but those attacks were too exaggerated and anime-like in terms of animation for me.

Dank Souls, of course.

If the rest of the game was this detailed it would've been BGOAT material

Never underestimate sexually frustrated nerds

Reddit absolutely fucking LOVES Kojima and kisses his ass non-stop, what in Mary Jane's crusty cunt have you been smoking where HATING someone built on a cult of personality is reddit.
That is the exact fucking opposite of reddit. For fucks sake, say neogaf or Nintendo threads or something else but reddit is the farthest call you can make when it comes to anti-director/dev worship.

...

Dragon's Lair?
Space Ace?

It's like pottery.

Don't forget Braindead 13.

Most thrusting attacks are flat-out fucking impossible without breaking your wrist.

DS2 has a proper handshake grip on swords instead of hammer grip, so despite its shit animations, it at least got thrusts right

You can sneak up on stuff in DaS, and also the other user is correct you can link moves so your point is moot.

Also by NG+ you're walking death incarnate and can actually just sledge-hammer strike your way through a lot of basic monsters.

i think its not so much the animations themselves that matter as much as how well they can transition into each other which MGS5 did an A+ job at

Hell yeah, doing convincing dynamic animations on something as big as Trico is mind-boggling. I've been meaning to give that game a second chance, I haven't touched it in a year.

The Jak and Dexter series was really well animated, the Uncharted games, NieR Automata, Batman Arkham Knight, DMC 4, Spec Ops the Line, HITMAN, Mafia 2, Ryse: Son of Rome, MGSV that's about all I can think of. Honorable mention to all the EA Sport games, those always have really good animations.

It depends on what you mean by "best"

Fuck off reddit trash.

user if the game was actually challenging and rewarding it would be GOTY.

hownu.ru? MGSV is Amazing! Clearly in Holla Forums top 25 BG4U's

They're Wyverns.

Street Fighter 3 and its iterations.

Why do so many people think that Dark Souls has good animation? I mean it's a decent enough game, but animation certainly isn't one of its strong points.

ebin

git gud

Pretty much this. Games that have good motion capture that have awful transitions are far too common. Motion cap animations also look like shit when the model has to interact with something.

Will being good at the game somehow improve the animation quality?

You have identified the joke

name a 3d animated game that isnt a movie that is better animated then dark souls 1 or 3
you probably can, but its not stupidly easy either (I cant think of any of the top of my head except maybe MGS5)

u wot, m8?

I have?

sameshit

you know how much niggers love their ass
almost as much as I love those triple dubs

nah they're dragons. tolkien is a retard and anyone who sucks his dick is too. the best video game dragons don't follow his shit rules.

DMC 3 had nothing to do with platinum.

...

You know what I mean.

asscreed games unironically have pretty decent animations and character controllers, even if the gameplay is shit
blade symphony was also pretty good and the game wouldn't be deader than dead if it actually had some singleplayer content

KoF XIII was some of the best pixel art ever made, and sadly I don't think it will ever be financially viable for it to ever be this good again.
I don't have many good examples of KoF animations could anyone post more?

Wow rude.

Dishonored
Hell, the whole art department of Dishonored is goddamn neat, you could see that Arkane had put some effort to make the early industrial age aesthetic work. from the posters to the mundane things, they're all very pleasing to look at. While the characters are far from you call handsome or beautiful, they're also stylized with exaggerated features that it makes them distinct from another, most of the time.
Another thing that tickled my autism is the way the made the in-game HUDs, inventory slots, headshots of the characters, and other shit that you will probably see not more than a few seconds really neatly detailed.
I mean fuck i really like this fucking style, but i should probably have remained in the Arkane thread

Lord have mercy, that hip sway is going to make the planet's orbit decay
