Amazons & barbarians

Post amazons & barbarians and tell me why there aren't more games with them. Doesn't even have to be medieval, Techno barbarians would be cool as fuck but that is especially rare.

Off the top of my head you can be a real barbarian in.

And I cant think of any more than that.

The reason they are so rare is they fit an archetype that is usually handled by a Fighter/Warrior class. Most developers will not take the time to flesh out the mechanics and class creation to the point that adding a Barbarian feels different enough from the Fighter/Warrior option.

That is quite reasonable I suppose, though I think a simple way to make barbarians unique is just to give them more speed and make them take more damage. would be quite different from your average fighter with his sword and shield going in slowly and defensively.

I just want a well written cRPG, with good combat, set in Conan's world.

I am sorry to say user but even if by some miracle the game has good writing its going to have shit combat or just be buggy as fuck.

Thay've been obsoleted by better things ever since the noble savage idea overstayed its welcome, which was a long, long time ago.

Except in most games Fighters aren't limited to a simple, defensive style. They can be anything from dual wielding chainsaws to lightly armored archers to the most common archetype of the Barbarian itself, the gigantic berserker cleaving into foes with an equally gigantic weapon. In most RPGs you can more or less play as what most people think of as a Barbarian by playing a certain type of Fighter.

Even D&D itself barely differentiated between Barbarians and Fighters. Barbarians just can't wear heavy armor, and they get a Rage that gives them bonus damage but leaves them weaker afterwards. That's it for differences. It takes a really creative designer to actually create interesting mechanical differences between martial classes.

...

The Barbarian archetype is not the noble savage. What the fuck are you smoking? The Barbarian archetype in classic fantasy is pretty much a Viking. Just about every fantasy archetype is ripped straight from European history or folklore, that's why we like them so much.

Maybe I am retarded but I thought the fighter class in D&D was just a melee warrior? I haven't actually played the board game so please excuse my ignorance. still though you make a good point.

Am I the only one having trouble posting? it just kinda stops sometimes at a random percentage.
