Personally, I just want it all to end forever, except maybe the video games. The last arcs of Z and the entirety of GT, Kai, and Super was just disappointment on top of disappointment. It's best to just accept that the things that were good about Dragonball and early-to-mid Dragonball Z are gone forever. I actually have nothing against clearly defined powerlevels, in the sense that if character 1 and 2 went toe to toe with each other in a regular fight you already know who the winner is. This shouldn't be used as a lazy crutch, much like asspull jumps in powerlevel tend to be in shonen, but as an encouragement to be creative. You have a character facing an opponent he, you and the bad guy know can't be defeated in a straight confrontation, so make the character fight smart instead of firing the bigger energy ball.

SSJ4 had a cool design and some of the scenery and art was really cool if not a tad trippy at times, but that's about the most I can give GT. It was pretty bad, though I need to give it another watch at some point to see if it's worse than Super. The Black arc feels like the lowest point of the entire series.

Super is a Mix between OG (Comedy) and Z (Action). Look at Bribriann and Universe 2. It is not intended to be super serious but just light hearted comedy with some action.

There are two big things about DB that makes it shine above Z.

First is the sense of wonder and adventure. A lot of that was lost in the transition to Z. There's no more exploration. The (relevant) characters can travel near-instantly and easily. Gathering the Dragonballs is now trivial and what were once plot-central relics that motivated villains to commit atrocities for power, youth, or immortality (or height) are now no more than convenient reset buttons. A bit of this remained with Freeza, but while he committed the greatest atrocities (no one before him genocied an entire planet), the challenge wasn't locating the dragonballs, it was getting them from the people who already had located them.

The second is just the scale of it all. Embed doesn't seem to be working, but video related (youtube.com/watch?v=xYWjGlhKkl8). The Red Ribbon Army is by far the best arc in any Dragonball media. Man for man, they were pushovers. Even as a child, Goku could take them out easily. Hell, he did – the arc ends with him singlehandedly storming their headquarters and taking out their command. Colonel Silver couldn’t even touch him when they fought. General Blue was no match physically, but managed to be a threat because of weird psychic powers. The only one in the entire army who could stand up to Goku was their hired hitman, Mercenary Tao. The scale was smaller, but the stakes seemed larger. Goku couldn’t just teleport everywhere, and these guys were always one step ahead of him, already established searching for the Dragonballs before he even arrived. One of the first things Toriyama did was have them take out the flying nimbus so Goku couldn’t even use that. If he was going anywhere, he was either doing it on foot, or he was hijacking one of their planes. And while he does eventually power through their stronghold, it gives the very real impression he may have failed if the Red Ribbon Army hadn’t been experiencing severe internal problems at the time. First they assume the thing coming towards them with Dragonballs is Tao returning after completing his job and they fail to shoot him down. Then, one of their remaining officers decides the army isn’t worth dying for so she robs them and fucks off during the chaos. To top it all off, Commander Red’s assistant (Staff Officer Black who unlike current year black characters doesn’t come off as having been shoved in for diversity points), gets tired of his boss’s bullshit and just shoots him. Dragonball/Z/Super can’t pull that sort of thing off anymore. Power levels are too high. If a villain can’t stand toe to toe with Goku/Vegeta or doesn’t have a gimmick that nullifies them, they’re useless.

More on topic and somewhat related, I always thought Z waster an opportunity to revive some of the Red Ribbon era glory with the Androids. Curious to see what they do with 21.
