Jesus Christ Ela is annoying as fuck to deal with. I love droning hostage, finding out it's empty, rushing in only to get pomf'ed by a mine above the window, stumbling to the hostage, get pomf'd a second time and gunned down because there's basically no way to reliably clear them out unless you've got a IQ/Twitch combo.

what are you smoking, Ela's entire threat is that she has absurdly good guns, the mines are less of a threat than a deployable shield. Yokai is more threatening and he's fucking useless.
Ela is more of a detriment to her own team than an attacking force because the enemy is at least sort of expecting getting pomf'd but you don't have that warning when some attacker triggers one halfway across the map and it hits you as a defender

I'm fucking tired of Ubisoft releasing new operators, ((("accidentally"))) making them overpowered, and then nerfing them a month later. What fucking genius decided 28 damage, a fire rate of 1030, and 51 fucking rounds was acceptable? What is Ubisoft's obsession with drum magazines and the most retarded weapon selection for these special forces units.

Everything they "fixed" with Operation Health and they still haven't implemented a hamper to your aim when your moving so fuckers can't fly around corners and slowly line up a shot on your head and kill you before they show up on your screen. Counterstrike figured out how to deal with Peakers Advantage long before Siege came out, and despite everyone complaining about it, they ignore it. They have new operators and stances to shove out the fucking door.

Why can't Ubisoft model an attractive woman without hiding her fucking face? Is some SJW HR manager there getting asshurt that women in a video game are more attractive them? Why is Caveira fat now? I've seen plenty final kills where someone gets pomf'd by a concussion mine and manages to kill the remaining Ela just fine considering his sight isn't obstructed too much. Her traps are more dynamic since you can throw them and set them from a distance unlike Kapkan and Frost where you need to have a bit of map knowledge to predict where the enemy might come from in order to maximize your chances to catch someone, so on top of the conc mines being good alarm systems, they're better used right before firefights and close-range corner fights.

So I wasn't just imagining it. I thought I kept missing shots because of shit servers even though I knew they were on target. It's probably both.

I've been out of power for the past week, but I'm working on getting Legion first as having 7 invisible needle boxes sounds very nice. I also want to do some tests to see if you can setup a Frost mat to kill with his needles.

You can set up an instakill trap with Lesion and Frost, but the enemy needs to step into the frost trap, and then fall onto the lesion trap.

From what I heard, the placement for it would involve the Frost trap being placed long with a Legion trap at the very end where it would trigger after the victim gets pulled into the Frost trap. I also want to see if it can be done even if placed short.
I also am curious as to if non-grenade explosions will kill traps, and at what distance will they do so.

I don't quite get what you mean, but, if you have a needle in you, and you're taking the DOT, it'll disappear as soon as you get downed or step in a frost trap.
To instakill, the Gu has to stab you after you get downed.

The whole setup is to have the needle placed outside of the initial area where the player would step onto the Frost trap but close enough to trigger after the player gets pulled into the middle of the trap.
My question is if it's possible to easily place the Gu trap in that area no matter how the Frost trap is oriented.

I've been playing for a while. I mained Rook when I was still new/intermediate to the game but now I've rarely touched him in the past few seasons.
The game plays extremely differently at different skill levels, and whenever I read these threads I'm happy to see people playing the game and doing things like how I used to when I was still learning the game myself. It's a nice and wierd feeling, I don't know how to describe it.

Another thing I don't get, Echo has a carrier, some kneepads and apparently he's just as slow as Montagne, who has steel plates glued to his legs and arms. It's so fucking inconsistent. Ying looks like robocop, but has 2 speed, and the only difference in armor between someone like Jager and Bandit, and Blitz is the fact that Blitz has fucking shoulderpads, but he's two points slower.

I get that it's for balance, but at least make the heavy characters look heavy.

It`s all maze like buildings that obviously padding, it confuses beginners and high level play has a optimal way to set up so is all one dimensional, also since all the maps has so much props visibility is always shit. Their new circus map must be the product of a brainstorm about how they can make a new map unplayable for a first timer while compromising visibility the most, I specifically like the midnight black tainting every fucking unlit corner of that place, they have a modern engine with millions of dollars to spend shilling force competitive play and not a single map designer can grasp the concept of "easy to learn hard to master".

I bought this game like a year ago at half price and I still few cheated, now I remember why I stopped playing.

The new map is surprisingly good from what I've played so far, better than most.
Surprise surprise, the easiest maps are also the worst - House and Hereford are the most boring to play on, and thankfully they're taken out of ranked. If you're complaining about map design in about all the things there is to complain about, you literally just need to git gud and drone better.

The new map is nice but it's considerably too big. Chalet is a good example of big but not too big imo.

I'm at 21,825 renown so I'm starting to think about what operator to get next. Only DLC ones I have so far are Capitao and Hibana so I want to get a defender next. I'm leaning away from Valkyrie and Echo since I don't really like to sit on cameras, and doubly away from Echo since I don't really like to communicate much and I don't want to constantly have to call out what the drone sees since no one else can spot from it. I'm leaning towards Mira and Lesion since their guns seem the coolest, but I like being somewhat mobile on defense and Mira seems to not encourage that at all despite having wall destroying shotguns out the wazoo.

Is Lesion any good, or should I just be boring and get Frost since everyone still uses her all the time?

Lesion is one of the most important defenders due to his attacks slowing down attackers. Because he takes a while to use his gadgets, your playstyle must be slower so you don't die.
Pick Ela.

Don't pick ela, she's a complete shitter pick right now, you hurt your team more than your enemy, and your gun is so obscenely powerful you can 1v1 anyone provided you have the reaction speed of a turtle or better

I'm not really interested in Ela because I don't really like 3 speeds and I think she's most likely to get balance changes that might nerf her into obscurity.

Sure, she doesn't get as many device uses as Lesion, but her weapons are fucking brutal. They TEAR through enemies. Video related.
Lesion is a good-ish choice if you prefer staying on site or being a sneaky killer in your own way. Since you can see your traps through walls, you'll see when it gets activated and can move in quickly with your silenced shotgun.
Between the two of them I've had far better results with Ela then Lesion.
Its likely that Ela will have a nerf in the future, but probably not to the degree where she is a poor pick. Such as how Blackbeard was once overpowered but after nerfs he is still a solid choice.

Mira's SMG is great, headshots not required. One of the best defender weapons in my opinion.
Valkyrie is a good pick, you can use her cams to be a sneaky bitch and murder people or place them in more hidden locations so your team gets intel on the sites. Her primary rifle isn't that strong, headshots are important.
Echo can be a more portable version of Valkyrie if you like roaming.
Caviera is also a good defender choice, although she is also a bit map dependent.
Relies a lot on luck, but you can amazing results if you have a Valk or Echo assisting you. On the new map she is a great choice, she hides in the darkness quite well, map is hard to understand for people, and there is cover just about everywhere.
Frost is a fine choice, her primary isn't bad at all. When using her traps you gotta think a bit, not just placing them right in front of doorways. Consider where enemies will be looking as they enter rooms, places of cover, etc. In doorways you can set it halfway or less infront of it so people will have a harder time seeing it and its very likely to catch them. Problem is that they don't die, so make sure to pick them off.

Also BB's nerfs were partially because his gadet and gun were good, if you nerf ela's weapons she has literally nothing because her mine does absolutely fuck all against anyone.

RSS is a shitty FPS that tries to be an MLG shooter over a braindead cowadooty clone but fails miserably because ubisoft couln't program a competent game to save their anal virginity.

She will still be effective, there are defense operators with far worse weapons. Her device is crazily overpowered. Enemies hit by it can hardly move their mouse, can't run, and are slowed to some degree. Plus, she always has her shotgun.
Nerfing her rifle will probably be the path that Ubisoft will follow, and possibly adjust how her mine works in some ways. Really I consider it retarded for Ubisoft to stick her in AT ALL. It completely ruins Echo. Her mine does WAY more then what Echo can do and you have the element of not needing to go into/out of a drone. Just line up your sights, wait for the enemy, they get pomfed, and then you fill them with lead.
The video in my post here really shows how overpowered she is. The guy can literally run up to and knife people simply because they are unable to turn their mouse fast enough.

Wow bad players can't react to having their screen slightly disoriented. Seriously people playing shittily not hugging walls correctly, and honestly just shoddy play don't make ela's gadget some god. The only reason Yokai isn't overpowered is that his primaries don't have 51 bullets, have a fire rate of 90,000 rpm, and do more damage than a point blank shotgun. His is a mobile camera that can disorient, much more useful than a shitty mine that will hit your team,and do basically nothing unless they're shit who would honestly probably die to being walked around when they're shooting much less disoriented. The people demonstrated against would fucking mash F the second they see the lesion graphic in the middle of an open hallway or doorway.

It's gotten me killed as a defender more often than I've seen any attacker die because it makes me deaf rather than the enemy.

Wait nevermind I figured out Ela's downside, see, her gadget helps the enemy team. Makes up for the fact that her guns are literally the best guns in the game with no exceptions from any range

this shouldn't matter too much if the person affected is holding the right corner where Ela might pop up, or in a lot of cases, the only corner. It's not impossible at all to kill shit when pomf'd, the visual drawbacks aren't too bad, only the audio and limited mouse sens. are.

I know, I've killed ela before when pomf'd. But just like you say they have to already be facing the correct spot or else they are fucked.

Thing is that if you could have spotted the trap with a drone, you could have avoided it. However, unlike welcome mats which are obviously visible with a drone and to a large extent so are EDDs, but conc mines are usually placed high up next to a barricade beyond the FoV of an ingoing drone, and nobody has made it a habit yet to look backwards at barricades for conc mines. On top of that they're small and black which makes them hard to see or make out at a first glance with a shock drone unlike with other traps. The natural camouflage is outweighed by the mine being a minor nuisance and alarm trigger most of the time, but I think people will learn to anticipate the conc mines more once they make it a habit to look for them in the first place.

I'll always enjoy house, especially throwing a NFL-certified cooked grenade into master bedrooms corner from the front yard and getting 2 kills


Frost is definite "all rounder" tier. you can use her well on any map or gametype. Leison is very fun and the longer you're alive the more dangerous you become, and if you're REALLY slick, you collect your mines back and relocated them in objective to really fuck up those last-ditch rushes. Valk is also good but she has her own meta when it comes to good camera placement and hoping your teammates don't overscan with them. Mira is a pretty hard camper so i doubt you'd like her, and you're right about echo, if you don't want to be vocal he's not a great pick

Her shotgun is alright, mag fed and the largest shotgun ammo pool I think (around 50 rounds). Her scorpion is better I think, just because she's 3 speed and you gotta get those peeks.

I'm not comfortable with how the face reworks made everyone some Trump-tier shade of orange, and made all of the women look like fat cunts.

Caveira is, gameplay design-wise, one of the worst operators in the game.

I swear, Caveira's entire kit just feels like mediocre trash that's powered by magic, and was cobbled together at the last second. I would put good money on Caveira and Capitao originally being a single operator with Interrogation and a crossbow as their original ability set (I highly suspect his asphyxiating bolts were meant to spread incapacitating blue gas to DBNO people instead of the weird not-fire it currently uses).

An operator that can magically make herself silent as long as her mana bar is charged and is able to fire mystical bullets that insta-down someone who's less than 10ft away has no place in this game. A lot of operators in siege have some pretty far-fetched abilities, but at least they can be passed off as "what if" cutting edge tech, Caveira's kit on the other hand is literally nothing but skills that every other operator should posses to one degree or another (or did every single SAS, Spetznaz, GROM, JTF2 and Navy SEAL operator happen to skip "walk real quiet" day?)

She fits in with the game design by she punishing solo attackers who run in. She encourages cautious drone+clear movement from the attackers. Her SMG is bad and her shotgun is only usable at close ranges, same with her pistol, but they dominate those ranges like no other operator.
I don't know how you think Capitao and Caveira should be one operator, they're pretty distinct. Smoke and incendiaries complement his crossbow well, incapacitating blue gas to DBNO sounds retarded. Transparent gun shields exist, although not in the form Blackbeard has. Hibana I won't argue. IQ is debatable, handheld Electro-magnetic field detectors are pretty common, just not usually with a visual display. Smoke would make much more sense if the defending team was terrorists, since I assume those canisters are just compressed gas, toxins with a small explosive charge on the valve. Now, Jackal is a bit more bullshit, although the footprint view itself I'm alright with.

For future reference, the reason why the gas masks are useless on everyone besides Smoke is that Smoke wears a fully sealed NBC hazmat suit, while the other SAS are wearing standard BDUs. His smoke is also probably corrosive to skin as well, which is why 'Why don't the operators just hold their breath" doesn't pan out.


It's pretty clear that for some portion of the design the defending team were supposed to be terrorists, until the "Tom Clancy games are not allowed to let people play as terrorists" clause kicked in.

In general the defence gadgets are ghetto as fuck. Smoke is one of the more obvious examples, since his gadget is clearly duct taped together, and the nitro cell is literally a cell phone bomb. Bandit just uses fucking car batteries, and Tachanka has a tripod mounted MG from the fucking Great War, that last saw use by Somali pirates.

On the whole, defence gets a few more Old And Busted things, while attack gets a little more super future shit like the Exploding Fidget Spinners and Jackal's foot fetish visor.

Personally, I would rather see them buff his ADS and shield flash range, as I just don't see faster movement being the thing he lacks.

The flash has always seemed unreliable, granted shields are my least used attackers. there have been several times as defense though where i feel like he flashed my right in the face and i shrugged it off. I imagine they want him to be more like he's presented in his operator video where he can be a far more offensive shield than montagne is and they think speed might be the solution.

When you play IQ now, you have to sort through almost 8 consecutive pinging electronic shits every time you open her gadget. The general rule is to treat blitz like a slow shotgun with a little more survivability. Blitz's flash works 4 meters ahead of him, so that's the range you want to be playing at.

Never peek long angles, because unless you've made some kind of blood pact with satan you'll never get the 4 hipfire body shots it takes before they blow your arms off. Rather, move around corners, push into small rooms, take as much advantage of chest high cover as you can as you're moving into larger rooms, and do whatever you can do minimise damage as you move 4 meters into the enemy. At that range, you flash them, then sidestep so they're less likely to kill you from random spray. Then hipfire unload into them until they die.

Of course, if enemies are completely unaware, feel free to ADS and take them out, but ADSing when they're aware and peeking you is just going to get you punished every time.

Lastly, while you want to be within 4 meters, try not to be too close to corners that you know enemies are going to turn from. If you're within 1 meter of them, they're just going to run behind your shield with peekers and blow you out.

Don't move while shooting, it drops your accuracy down the shitter, and similarly, don't bother firing at someone who's also already firing at you, every hit to your shield throws your aim off like crazy.

This is going to be a very long post on recoil patterns. I plan to edit this a little and put this one reddit so siege devs might actually see it, but I like you guys more so let's hash out my thoughts.

I'm against set recoil patterns in Rainbow Six Siege. On the TTS, Ubisoft has implemented fixed recoil patterns to the guns in the game, dividing them into a couple of categories, but the pattern is slightly different between each gun. This change was done on Ubisoft's end initially as a means to fix sight misalignment, but they took it as an opportunity to reduce RNG in terms of the shooting in the game.

However, beyond the obvious issues of a set recoil being easy to abuse with macros, especially given Ubisoft's atrocious anti-cheat software, RNG recoil, and RNG in general is an important factor to the fun of video games in two ways.

The first is as a balancing tool. At the moment, guns in Rainbow Six Siege are balanced upon 4 major metrics. In an arguable order of importance -


Shotguns, for instance, have an instant TTK at their effective range, and have the easiest control of any class of gun. However, their incredibly limited range makes them a completely worthless pick for your primary damage.
Similarly, DMRs are very easy to control, and have unparalleled effective range, but their very long TTK compared to ARs limits their effectiveness.
Within the AR and SMG classes, the most commonly used guns in the game, these 4 metrics separate niches. The SMG-11 for instance, has singularly the highest DPS of any SMG. However, it is arguably balanced by an incredibly small clip size for it's RPM. Buck's C8 has a higher TTK than sledge's L-85, but many people would argue that the L-85 is a better gun because it is easier to handle, ceterus paribus.

The issue with set recoil patterns is that, given practise, "ease of control" is completely nullified as a balance metric. The fact is that even with practise, random horizontal kick to each side is very difficult to adjust to on the fly, and will cause even the best players to miss a few shots in a spray. This is a tool to help pull the guns with the best TTK in line with the others. Without some degree of random spread, with practise all guns can simply be ranked in a linear list by their DPS at ~10 meters, which hardly presents an interesting choice to players at the pick screen.

And why do guns need to be in line with others? Due to the class based system of the game, operators with stronger gadgets must have worse guns, else they become integral to every team, leading to a stagnant and boring game. And removing decision making from the player cuts into the fundamental reason to play videogames, fun.

Leading into stagnation, RNG in general, while often derided, exists in videogames for a reason. The less RNG a game has, the easier it is for it to be 'solved', and 'solving' a game is invariably a question of memorisation. There's a reason why Bobby Fischer invented a form of chess with randomised starting positions. At high level chess play, the first 20+ moves are merely playing out memorised openings and their counters. There's little interesting decision making from move to move, and it's about as exciting as reading off your times tables.
MTG is a game with about 25 years of development behind it, and despite years of experimentation never dropped the RNG aspects of card drawing. Because if both players know exactly what's going to be in their decks from the beginning, why play at all? Just submit the decks to the judge at the beginning of the game and they'll mathematically work out who wins first, provided each player makes no mistakes in play. RNG forces players to make on the fly decisions, whether they be larger strategical decision in turn based games, or the immediate, instant pushing and pulling of the mouse to adjust for that sudden hook left in your spray.

Removing RNG from recoil, without adding the corresponding support systems that games like CS have, is an inherently poor decision, and one that shouldn't make it to live.

If you use a M+KB on console, yeah it's cheating. M+KB is a flat out better input device and gives you a hard advantage in shooters to the degree of having cheats.

Kapkan's been here since launch. Frost was the first DLC operator. It amazes me people still blindly jump through windows and doors. Besides, the purpose of having 4 trap operators is to punish 3 speed rushes.

The problem is Frost is the odd one out now because her traps are fairly obvious compared to the other 3.

Kap's changes haven't gone live yet, I'm still hopeful they revert him.
