ITT bois who did literally nothing wrong
ITT bois who did literally nothing wrong
The sequence where Bow pretends to care about him to get something for the people he actually cares about, then throws him off a ledge when he's done using him, is such a great insight into woke women like the writers.
Kyleanon's new chapter is coming any day now...
>>133081009She-Ra's story as a whole turns into an amoral nightmare when you examine it too closely, kind of like Naruto. Still a good show tho
>>133081086>kind of like Naruto>destination does not matter, you choose your path.>forget it, destiny is real and we are all doomed long before we are born.the same teaching of all anime shonen, which is quite curious.
>>133081086>spoiler textIt is. I like all the non-Catra character arcs, and Catra herself was a psychologically complex villain until they decided that scissoring her adopted sister would be redemptive.I give Stevenson props for showing a lot of love for the original and Masters of the Universe, before she went off the deep end.
>>133081074Chapter is still cooking in the oven haha! I'm hoping it will be ready by the supposed MotU anniversary duiring October 12. That's my goal.I can do another small storytime of what I've got in the meanwhile. It's been busy on my end, but this chapter is becoming more exciting as I go on. Kyle is gonna rub shoulders with some of Etheria's upper crust.
>>133081009I gotta rewatch that episode some day because I remember my initial reaction was "Bow, you have the most emotionally vulnerable guard. Stop being so fucking disinterested in his problems and take advantage already"
>>133081659Trust me, you're not the only one with their hands full. That's why I'm looking forward to that chapter so much. It's especially nice to hear you're excited for it. That can only be a good sign, given your track record. If you're satisfied with what you have so far, I wouldn't say no to two or three pages, but you've got to keep the meat for October.Neat art, btw!
>>133081411>>destination does not matter, you choose your path.>but you and Catra were always meant to be together
>>133082111>but you and Catra were always meant to be togetherCatra is fucking broken. It's toxic but understandable that she acted like she owned Adora when she was still in the Horde, because her sister was the only person who cared for her. Their mom didn't, and as Lonnie notes, she would get bullied when Adora's not there to protect her. The psychological dependence was bad but very understandable. But in a less disordered brain, this relationship would be platonic. Catra has no Westermarck Effect and thought it was appropriate to try to strengthen this bond by trying to be Adora's dominatrix.
>>133081795Hey thanks! >It's especially nice to hear you're excited for it. That can only be a good sign, given your track record.I think it'll be a fun one and the next one too. I got some time to re-read the chapters and I was surprised how self-contained the Crimson Waste story was. Every chapter was building on eachother nicely and flowed quite smoothly. I tend to be hard on my own work and want to change it, but I'm happy with the result.>If you're satisfied with what you have so far, I wouldn't say no to two or three pages, but you've got to keep the meat for October.I'm fine with previewing some of the start since it can always change in the final storytime release. I'll try posting something soonish.>Neat art, btw! Thanks. I'm posting some of these on twitter from time to time when I'm away. I've been wanting Kyle to rock his look from Glimmer's imagination at some point
Kyle Saga PreviewBack in Bright Moon
>>133083087Also introducing Stara of the "Star Sisters"I've gained somewhat of a soft spot for Glimmer's situation. BFF space roadtrip my ass, she is going to be stuck trying to rebuild her destroyed kingdom. Heavy is the crown.
>>133083171Since the Star Sisters served in the 1st Alliance I'd assume they are supposed to be around Spinerella and Netossa's age...As far as old surviving First Ones Records go. I imagined Jared and his men went from having a positive image to becoming something akin to Ungern Sternberg figures as their resistance went on.
>>133083171> They never bothered to aid during the war afterwards.> But maybe that's why they are so eager to lend a hand.I smell a sus.> As far as old surviving First Ones Records go. I imagined Jared and his men went from having a positive image to becoming something akin to Ungern Sternberg figures as their resistance went on.This is gonna spice up Kyle's first encounter with Glimmer and the princesses.
>>133083291Oh Norwyn we hardly knew ya. I always imagined that seeing some eldritch spell consume someone in body and soul would be traumatic for anyone to see. Especially a kid Micah's age. Poor guy was left scarred from all that.Norwyn's untimely death might just be a footnote in SPOP, but not in Kyle Saga. And Garv is a good lad.
>>133081009wasn't it sea hawk who threw kyle ?
>>133083394Kyle has now made his way ro Glenmar. A wealthy and glamourous villa in Etheria. But his upbringing in the Fright Zone continues to haunt him in little ways. Toxicity isn't exclusive ro the Horde. Also as of S5 it's canon that Catra AND Adora targeted Kyle for "tricks" whatever those were.
>>133083491I've been wanting to bring Vultak into the lore somehow. One of the lesser Horde members.Though he is not of the Horde in this version, but a past enemy from before the war.
>>133083491For some reason a lot of Kyle enjoyers "headcanon" him as being autistic or neurodivergent or something along the lines.I wouldn't say he is autistic in the same way Entrapta seems to be, but he is very good natured, and tends to assume good in others so sarcasm can fly over his head. And he was violently mind-wiped as a child so it's a given he isn't completely all-there in the head as a consecuence.
>>133083672Ofc Kyle went for the Happy Meal.
>>133083758Well shit. The three girls are the band players from Princess Prom
>>133083811I named their band C.M.Y like the color model. Cyan, magenta and yellow. Always like dtheir deaigns.
>>133083811Kyle is in trouble. His track record with women is still terrible aside for semi-immortal forest creatures, bomechanical bugs, and kindly grandmas
>>133083899Real smooth Mr. Nycroft
>>133083899Kyle's nemesis was never the Horde, it was mean girls, and he's knee deep in them.
>>133083956And so Kyle found himself a new ally in a rather unfriendly place. He might have a chance of meeting the Star Sisters after all.And here is were the preview ends. Let's save the rest till October.
>>133084020Good read. I definitely needed that while working late.I'm really liking the setting you painted here. After all this time spent in remote regions and providing a pov for the lower Etheria, it was about time we dived in the higher spheres with a character who's not a princess. Kyle's average look and innocence couldn't clash more in that dreadfully zoomer town - you even managed to introduce smartphones without being on the nose. That should quell my anticipation for a while. Still, I look forward to see what's up with Nycroft. And that Modulok toy.
>>133084005Poor guy, he's had really had bad luck with the girls in his life. I mean, growing up with Lonnie, and Catra ffs. That's why I introduced the Twiggets early on as well as Serena, and Ariana as more positive influences to balance things out. There are cool girls out there. Then again, I don't think the other two C.M.Y girls are nearly as mean as Mag-E either. Red just tends to be the more agressive color.
>>133083385The show tries to retcon them with the Star Siblings in S5 but I'm having none of that. These three were in the mural. They were part of the 1st Alliance, they briefly show up in Princess Prom. Then never heard from again.Nah, I prefer to think that they are up to something.>This is gonna spice up Kyle's first encounter with Glimmer and the princesses.Definitely. They already are getting a real bad impression of him.
>>133084020Amazing stuff kyleanon, hope i don't miss the dump
>>133084201>I'm really liking the setting you painted here. After all this time spent in remote regions and providing a pov for the lower Etheria, it was about time we dived in the higher spheres with a character who's not a princess. The Crimson Waste is a wasteland and the Northland is more of a quiet remote alpine village. Neither too wealthy places, with extreme weather, and life is hard in both. Then Glenmar is the Etherian equivalent of a place like St. Tropez or Monaco. It's a big contrast in lifestyles. >Kyle's average look and innocence couldn't clash more in that dreadfully zoomer town That's probably Kyle's main "problem": he looks average in a world full of glitz and sparkles. He doesn't seem to fit in well with Etherian beauty standarts. He is seen as unremarkable and even worth ridiculing or looking down upon because of that. >you even managed to introduce smartphones without being on the nose.Bow's tracker pad already seemed to work like a smartphone/ipad. So I thought it would be interesting if his invention started to get mass produced after the war.
>>133083491Kek at the Laughing Swan being a fast food chain.
>>133080947As someone who hasen't watch the she-ra show what's the deal with this character, why there controversy around him?
>>133083956Very suspicious that Dr. Nycroft designed the Modulok toy but doesn't look like Modulok.
>>133080947Kyle for mr Holla Forums
>>133084968There seemed to be one in various locations in the one from the 80's show.So here it it's like Etheria's McDonalds haha. Of course a simple guy like Kyle is gonna gravitate towards a place like that and think it's cool.
>>133085156I like their pies.
>>133085032Dr. Nycroft is a man of mystery ;)
>>133084909Bout that, I've been wanting to tell you that your take on Etheria has actually influenced the worldbuilding for an interpretation of He-Ro I've been working on. It would be set on a planet split where elites who monopolize magic and keep the means of practicing it away from commoners, so as to maintain their influence all while being dismissive of them from their ivory tower. And guess what, the guy who becomes He-Ro happens to be an unremarkable bumpkin like Kyle here from bumfuck nowhere. Obviously, the princesses from SPOP aren't that scummy. Shallow, maybe, but I'd have to find the time and will to actually watch the series so I can actually judge for myself. So yeah, thanks for the inspiration!
>>133085301That sounds real cool! I'm glad you're making your own story. That's the good stuff. So is He-Ro supposed to be son of Grayskull, right?>Obviously, the princesses from SPOP aren't that scummy. Shallow, maybe, but I'd have to find the time and will to actually watch the series so I can actually judge for myself.I don't think they are that scummy in general but some of them have their moments were they treat Entrapta poorly and make her friendship with Hordak more wholesome in comparison.
>>133084789Thanks! I'll try to pin the date up in twitter beforehand.
>>133085029The show presents him as a good natured but beat down child soldier who is only a Horde member because that is where he was raised, and who'd probably defect if the protags ever asked him nicely. OP isn't being ironic or anything, he does nothing wrong throughout the series.
>>133085482Thanks!>So is He-Ro supposed to be son of Grayskull, right?I prefer to leave the origins vague enough so the protaginist could be one of many things. He could be Grayskull's descendant, his ancestor or even the son of Adam and Teela or Adora and Seahawk - or one of Kyle's AUs. It's all about making a sort of spin-off that embraces the MOTU aesthetic (fantasy meets sci-fi, good vs evil, gimmicky characters with silly names, etc.) that can easily crossover with He-Man and She-Ra. But it could still be enjoyed as its own separate thing!
>>133085749>It's all about making a sort of spin-off that embraces the MOTU aesthetic (fantasy meets sci-fi, good vs evil, gimmicky characters with silly names, etc.) that can easily crossover with He-Man and She-Ra. But it could still be enjoyed as its own separate thing!Nice! That's the sort of idea I was going for too! As well as a story about rising above cruelty and abuse and finding self-worth. Themes I find interesting. I remember I used to want to make Kyle into Grayskull's far off descendant, but opted to go for Jared instead since what the 80's says about him was interesting enough.
>>133085737Okay, so i get he was like the punching bag of the series and people just started to like him?
>>133085958Punching bag is a little much, but yeah.
>>133085850>As well as a story about rising above cruelty and abuse and finding self-worth.
>>133080947Man, I wish Kyleanon's work got more attention. I'm actually kind of curious what the more mainstream She-Ra fandom will think of it.
>>133088305let's hope it goes nicely if that happens
>>133088305He (she?) has a Twitter and Tumblr. Should repost the whole thing on those now.
>>133085958Kinda got the opposite effect of what the writers intended
>>133089372>Kinda got the opposite effect of what the writers intendedThe writers were six white women in California. Of course they thought physically abusing and starving a white male child was funny.(Noelle would later beg forgiveness and donate money to race grifters for making a joke about Bow having a brother who's a farmer.)
>>133088291>Lonnie telling Kyle nicely to get the hell out of the room while she fucks Rogelio and Kyle is having intrusive fantasies about what a tour to the chocolate factory would be like.I'll go with that just as Lonnie having weird paranoid dreams after chapter 8
>>133088291> That fucking schlongKyle deserves to get himself his own Amazon - if he won't rock Spritina's purplssy that is.
>>133089420I read a tumblr ask recently about how one of the worst things a writer can do is try to dictate which characters the audience has to like or dislike, and I kind of agree 50/50.In this case, I think Kyle was not meant to be liked, but at the same time the character wasn't doing anything to be hated either. They just put a white boy on set and expected regular viewers to throw tomatoes at him without really daring to explain why. "Cause he is a white dude, simple as." is not going to make most viewers outside of a tumblr/twitter echo-chamber find those reasons acceptable. The reason I say 50/50 is because I do think you can write characters meant to be disliked and make it satisfying when they get a comeuppance. Walt Disney knew how to do it with a lot of his animated villains by just giving them flat out realistic unlikeable traits we also hate IRL. The sadistic Stepmother from Cinderella, the gossipy female elephants from Dumbo, the shitty aunt from Lady and the Tramp, etc.
>>133090233giving the poor boy a big lizardman that goes out of his way to help and dote on him in the background scenes also endeared him to the fans as well
>>133090255Didn't a storyboarder add those background scenes without telling anyone and that's how you had Rogelio tending to Kyle then bullying him at the drop of a hat?
>>133090367Yes, Rogelio taking care of Kyle was a storyboarder's idea.
>>133090129I have this idea that Kyle fancied She-Ra. He has a type for badasses (because he doesn't feel like one himself) so I can see him having a lowkey crush on Adora/She-Ra at the time, but knowing it won't happen at all. Rogelio, Lonnie, She-Ra all fit this badass "can protect me" type Kyle yearns for.Lonnie is kinda trying to emulate Adora at times and failing, so I can also see Kyle being superficially drawn to her too. Definitely not by the end of the Crimson Waste story tho.Been thinking that if Kyle finds himself a lover later on, it's should be someone who really desires him in all his dorky-ness, and not out of pity or treats him as a helpless baby. It should be someone who sees Kyle as the badass he doesn't see himself as. And Kyle will be oblivious, in denial, or have no idea what to do because he is not used to being seen in that light. Or someone putting Kyle to be in a more dominant position since he was submissive, and tended to most of his life could also be an interesting scenario as well.
