Somehow, I think I enjoy Salmon Run more than ranked mode now. Too bad I can't gain exp for gear while doing it, I still have a ton of body gear that needs exp. Thank God the Crusty Sean drinks give you 50% more exp for gear.

It's so easy to get overwhelmed in Salmon Run. One of the things I'm finding out is that it's sometimes better to just leave golden eggs that are far away from the basket. Like if you kill a Stinger on the edge of the map, pick up one golden egg, run to deposit it into the basket, run back to where the last 2 eggs were left, then not only may Snatchers may have already picked them up, but the more time you spend traveling the less time you spend defending your teammates & killing bosses = get overwhelmed easier.

After all that, killing a boss near the basket feels worth like killing two or three bosses at the edge, in terms of egg collecting that is. So I try to let Scrappers and Maws get closer to the basket before I kill them.

Also having a team that can use those cannons at night is good too. Most players will either ignore the cannons the entire fight, or stick near a cannon the entire fight until they get killed, never shifting between collecting & firing.

At higher ranks there are more bosses than eggs you need for quota. You can grab one egg per boss and still meet quota. Once quota is met, no point in collecting eggs away from basket.

Not really, it wasn't really a hardware revision. It's in the boat of a 2DS where it's effectively a cheaper downgrade. If you're worried about being late to the Spla2n party then it's more or less the same game with differences compared to Splatoon, and if you can find a Switch that isn't scalped to hell and back and doesn't have one of those semi-rare defects you'll have a good little console. Nobody really paid attention to the Wii U so it's gotten a lot of Wii U ports (I half-hope a Hyrule Warriors port pops up with Legends content) and if you play a lot of Splatoon already then it has a major multiplayer game through Spla2n. Otherwise, though, I'd wait at least until Odyssey is released since it's rather destitute outside of indie games, Wii U ports and a small handful of actual Switch titles.

I'm considering hunting down one when the Splatoon bundle comes out. The last run they had of the console, when Splatoon 2 came out, I managed to find one in a Best Buy, but decided against buying it. I'm at a point where I have nothing to play and Holla Forums seems to talk almost exclusively about the sequel now. Keep in mind, I never got to see a single splatfest, since I was such a latecomer, and I don't want a repeat of that. It really sucks being new to a game when it's dying, especially since Splatoon is the most fun I've have with a video game since Demon's Souls.

No splatfests or new content are pretty much why the new one is exclusively talked about. Little to no idea of what's coming up since we can't peer through a Switch cartridge or downloaded title's files in any respectable manner so we don't know what's coming up beyond what Nintendo tells us; last I checked the only things that had really been done on that front were extracting models and not much else from ARMS. Switch is shaping up to be a fantastic system, just needs the library.

Seems you get a TON of golden eggs when you Splashdown a goldie salmanoid that just came out of a geyser.

Dynamo roller is weird for Salmon run. Strong enough to kill Chum & Smallfry's, but not always strong enough to kill Cohocks. You feel screwed most of the time since it's swing speed is so slow, and it feels like each swing takes like 20% of your ink. I think the best way to take out Stingers with a Dynamo is with a vertical swing, but I haven't tried that out yet. Seems to be awesome in the salmon rush, saw a guy just inching a few steps during a rush & that would destroy the oncoming horde (except maybe the goldie).

It's generally wise not to buy a console at launch, but after six months it's safe to get one if you want. By then most of the bugs have gotten worked out and the library is bigger than the few launch titles.

there seems to be new stage announcement banter. seems to want to address marina seeming like a bully.

The vertical swing is very strong, and can kill Steelheads + Drizzlers in one hit. One vertical swing can also "stun" a griller so it exposes 4 weak points & spins. If you're next to the high spot by the basket & the griller's circling around to get to you there, it's easy to stun it with one vertical swing then you're in position to pound it with three horizontal swings and it should be dead.

Scrappers die in like three hits.

Swarmers are fairly easy if you don't need to swim. Just get into rolling position and roll over them, but when you're low on ink hold still (with roller still on the ground) to slowly refill ink. Then just move a little when you want to kill the next swarmer nearby. If a swarmer bumps into your roller when it's out they'll just harmlessly bounce backwards, letting you wait until you have more ink to kill them with. Using this strategy the dynamo roller trivializes the Salmon Rush. Just stay near that top ramp by the basket with your roller out, move a few inches when there are swarmers nearby to kill them (Goldie's take two hits though). You'll still get harmlessly bumped if you're out of ink or aren't moving.

The only real threat is the Stinger. You can only swing five times in a row before you're out of ink, and since it takes like 7 hits to kill a stinger you're kind of screwed. Using a vertical swing only counts as one hit too. I guess you could throw a bomb at a stinger to blow off 2 of it's structures, refill your ink, then hit it with five horizontal strikes. A real pain to do solo compared to pretty much every other weapon.

You can get to the point where if you see some boss is kind of weak, you can roll into it to kill it (like Steel Eel or Scrappers).

Vertical swings don't kill cohocks, but rolling into them will.

Still, it's quite a pain to use.

I always got fucked on Steelheads because my team would be retarded and nowhere near me. I always have to choose to hit mooks or the boss, because the time it takes to do one single vertical swing is enough time for two mooks to DP me to death. I only really have much chance if it's underneath the grates and I can hit it from above, or if I have a teammate watching my back.
I'm not ashamed in admitting that I'm absolutely shit with the roller, especially such a slow motherfucker as the dynamo.

Rollers in general really got nerfed. I'm not sure if it's the update rate of the game or not but I can't seem to roll over any opponent intentionally. It's always a fluke when I do it.

It's already over, so it's a moot point, but I tried to do that and I would just bounce off of it like a bumper car, neither of us would get hurt.

The only parts of the stinger that can be hurt are the middle 7 dirty cooking pots that make up it's tower. The very top (the salmanoid itself) and the very bottom (a fiery stove burner) are invincible from what I can tell.
So rolling with the Dyanmo roller doesn't hurt because you just hit the bottom most part, the invincible fiery stove burner. I remember hitting it's burner with a Sting Ray special but it wouldn't hurt, and I'm realizing why now.

I never noticed it before, but you kill this salmanoid itself by knocking away the pots until it falls onto the fiery burner at the bottom of its tower.

Anyway, I think *maybe* it might be possible if you angle your roller, like in this second picture, but I don't know if you'll be able to do that. You can't angle your roller until you hit a wall, and I hope the burner acts like a wall but it's too late to test now.

Yeah, you'd always have to clear swarmers before attacking bosses. You might get lucky jumping while doing a vertical swing to move out of the swarmers way. The thing that REALLY sucks is that it takes forever to do a vertical swing that you pretty much have to predict when the Steel Head is going to make it's bomb or else you won't hit it.

If they didn't completely change her personality from the Jap version that wouldn't be an issue.

Characters that interact with one another, If programed, and written well, makes it feel like they have a relationship, causes the player to see them as people, making the world more believable. Changing the dialog could very well have ruin the characters that everyone came to know.

Problem was, Marina's English dialogue consisted of her being Marie 2.0, with the added problem of Treehouse deciding to change her personality from a timid Octoling to a snarky, hollow Marie clone to accomplish this as far as I've been made aware, so dialing back her snark and making her a bit more timid makes her more true to her original personality. Or it could just be that Treehouse doesn't know what the fuck they're doing. Hell if I know anymore.

I don't think motion controls off is even viable given where the movement stick is.
And there is single player, just go down the grate on the left of inkopolis, after the shops. It's a bit more elaborate than splatoon 1's and you can change weapons.

I always hated aiming with the analog stick on consols. Aiming with motion controls became natural for me. I keep my stick sensitivity high for turning while I use motion controls to fine tune my aiming.

I play with max motion sensitivity but only because my movements are very subtle. I suggest trying it on low sensitivity and working your way higher. Single player is a great place to test this. You'll be switching between shooting and platforming all the time.

Pics are submitted by accessing an in game post box. You use the Switches touch screen to draw your pictures and once sent it will appear randomly in others games. It will also appear above your inkling for anyone who has played with you.

The inklings in Inkopolis square are not afk players, you're right, they are a selection of people you have recently played with online converted into npcs (just as your inkling will be for others).

It's 99% the same, with minor differences at times (ie. the previous Splatfest)

There's two major sets of "NPC" inklings in Inkopolis Square; the ones hanging out in front of the Lobby and Grizzco's entrance are the other players from your most recent online match, and the others dotted about are visual shitposters whose posts were made 'yesterday' (in relative terms).
Each day's roster of shitposters include random unknown posts and popular posts. Apart from looking at their profiles and giving a "Yeah!" to shitposts you like, these NPCs exist so you can (indirectly) mug them and steal their clothes.
The sea urchin who hangs out near the lobby will ~somehow~ get you near-exact copies of someone else's gear if you call on him.

Single-player is highly recommended before you get serious about online play, since it lets you get used to the controls, and freely experiment with every type of weapon.
Basically, try to beat the final boss of single-player before going to Grizzco, or reaching Level 10 in Turf War matches.

This happens nearly every Salmon Run for me. That inside room is a KILL BOX! The flyfish missiles never stop, stingers never get taken out, climbing walls *into* the killbox is useless, and you always get stuck trying to exit through the windows.

Pretty sure all you have to do is use a Nintendo account that is set to live in Japan, and play from that user.

I made a post which, for some reason, appeared twice on twitter (there was an issue when I tried to upload it the first time from the switch). I deleted one of the tweets which then proceeded to delete BOTH of them, now I have nothing.

So I am unsure (since you can't see your own posts/what's above your head in Splatoon 2) as to whether the image is stored somewhere on Nintendos servers and the social media accounts are used as a way for you to have a copy (if you don't have an SD card), or if Splatoon 2 draws from the tweet/facebook post in order to display the image in-game.

I'd lean towards the Nintendo server side since the image uploaded to twitter/facebook is a simple screen capture and not a pixel perfect copy that shows up in the plaza, but can't be 100% sure.

I am dying so much in that stage, most attempts are wipes, deaths happen all the time, and the basket room is a killbox! It's panic inducing if anything!

i vouch for playing the campaign, at the very least itll get you used to aiming. on that note salmon runs faster paced action is also a great training tool for motion controls.

* Return eggs with the best speed since enemy ink won't slow you down when rolling

* Easy to save your teammates when enemies & enemy ink is everywhere. Several times I've seen a brush user save all other three teammates in the infested killbox in record time & minimal difficulty. Even noobs.

* If you want to do damage with the inkbrush, the secret is to flick it REALLY fast. You can flick it like 8 times a second (faster than the Jet Squelchers & SplattershotPro).

* For Grillers, it's kind of tricky because you gotta be right next to them and they're always spawning SmallFry's. The good thing though is that you can just run into SmallFry's, maybe do little spins too, and you'll wipe them out easy.

Problems with the inkbrush, besides it's obvious lack of range, is that I can't kill Steelheads with it unless I get on a higher platform, and I often get too close to a stunned Scrapper then die from it's ink-exhaust.

Yeah, it's got it's problems, but it's got some strengths no other weapon can touch (except the OctoBrush, which does it slower). Many times I see a Stinger in the back of a grated section, or across those rope bridges on the low-tide shoreline, and I can get to it no problem and quickly too. Before time runs out and everybody is rushing to deposit nearby eggs, I can return like two or three times as many as anybody else since even though there's chaos & enemy ink everywhere, two stingers are shooting at me, etc. It doesn't slow down my deposits any.

I kind of find the Nozzlenoses to be weak. I know they're supposed to be strong, but I don't feel lethal with them at all. Just kind of normal. I feel more dangerous with the N-Zap, especially against Grillers & Steelheads.

I have some family of mine who have tiny kids recently, they love playing Splatoon1 when they visit me. There was a family get together for a weekend, not only do I know their parents wouldn't want them to be exposed to that kind of material, but I know I don't want them to be either.

I've played Splatoon 1 for a fair amount of time so I am used to the gameplay. It's more of a "am I missing out" kind of thing. Guess I'll just dig in and see where it takes me.

Campaign has the same structure as in 1's, but you get different types of weapons and tickets that will be useful to you in MP.

Weird, I don't know how you can play WITHOUT Gyro! Especially with a charger! You ever see those Quake2 videos where people have some sort of muscle memory that let's them get quick 1-hit kills with the railgun? You can get soemthing similiar in Splatoon with the chargers, where you see something, you're body jerks the aim in that direction and you kill it in one hit. I saw a video of some japanese player who had that kind of aim all the time with the squiffer, it was awesome. Since I've picked up Splatoon again for the sequel, I've only been able to do that a few times recently, but I used to do that a lot more often.

Anyway, try to get good with gyro if you want, but don't force yourself if it's not your cup of tea.

I am relying on sneaky tactics with my bombs and ninja squid as a roller because I can never go toe-to-toe with other players who can kill me in 1.5sec of seeing me. At the same time, I just cant, I can't control the camera in gyro, I have to constantly fix it with Y.

I feel sad that I can't unlock my full potential, especially now with how rollers jump-attack are.

I could see the stage being fun if the Switch didn't have such a garbage friend system and you could get a regular group of decent players to roll with, but playing that stage with randumbs is infuriating moreso than the other two stages.

the insane reach of the jet squelcher gives it much better coverage than you would think too allowing for easy charging.

I feel I move slower, swim slower, can't get out of enemy ink as easily, can't swim and jump as far or as fast to evade enemies, ink consumption is faster, and they borked the early level matchmaking, so you're not in a group with low levels for the first 6 levels. I find myself relying on dualies more often because the dodge move makes it much easier to get out of enemy ink.

Over a decade later, the Wii Shopping Channel is still online, but the DSiWare store (which was newer) is not. The former is still regularly used and earning money, while the latter wasn't.
Online multiplayer servers and the eShop will be the very last holdouts on Wii U, after every less-important service is stripped away to cut down on running costs.

So, this will be my first splatfest ever. What can I expect?

Getting to the maximum rank (for the maximum reward) will take 2-4 hours. It's worth it.
Ranked gamemodes are disabled, leaving only the default Turf War with random team-mates and "friends who voted the same way as you" options in the Lobby.
The map rotation increases to 3 possible stages, with two 'sets' that rotate like the normal map schedule. In both sets, the third map is a special one, exclusive to Splatfests.
Expect a couple of mirror matches against people who voted the same way as you, or lots of mirror matches if your side got a significant majority of the vote.
If you've got dosh to spare, the fuckin' sea urchin will scrub unlocked abilities from your Splatfest Tee at a much lower price than usual. Combined with Crusty Sean's drinks, it's a great way to grind Ability Chunks before you reach the high ranks / level cap.
Final results are announced 1-4 hours after the Splatfest ends. The winner is decided in a best-of-three format: Most Votes, Map Set 1 Win % and Map Set 2 Win %. The winning side gets +3 extra Super Sea Snails.

During Splatfest you have a special Splatfest rank that you earn points toward raising as you play, with wins netting you more points. If you reach the final rank of King/Queen, you will earn more Sea Snails. Unlike ranked mode, you will never lose points/rank, you just earn less if you lose a match.

it's just practice. I used to be good with the Squiffer in Splatoon 1, but when I played Splatoon 2 I missed most of the time. My skills grew dull & faded. Now after many matches I'm getting my twitch reflexes back, slowly, where I can abruptly jerk my aim to one-hit kill somebody who I just noticed was off to the side. I tried to practice in the testing area by shooting ten moving dummies in a row, but that didn't really do much. What really did the trick was being in the heat of battle and slowly regaining that skill.

It just takes time & practice.

I'm also noticing that a LOT of people in the S+ ranks are also leveling gear, so gear isn't the biggest issue.

I main the inkbrush weapon and the two biggest skills I need are that ink-resistance and swim-speed-up. Eventually I want to build a set where I can use that stealth swimming and 2 swim speed ups (stealth swim slows you down like you LOSE one swim speed up).

I have no idea. Maybe that mobile app.

Part of me would hope that they would only shut down Wii U online features if there was enough stock of Switch's on shelves for people to buy or if the current Wii U owners online dropped below a certain threshold. A match in Splatoon will only start if you have 8 players. Any less, no match.

Install base would be another factor with those digital stores. Wii Shopping Channel has the massive Wii audience (and Wii U) while shutting down access for the DSiWare store was just for population of the DSi versions of the NDS (which was 41 million amazingly enough). And the eShop of the 3DS still has the ability to purchase DSiWare.

Pay Grade is determined by you individual win/loss records from game to game.
-20% Pay Grade = Lose before Round 1 ends

+20% Pay Grade = Win all 3 Rounds

Personally I think this is GREAT news that your Job Score per game is dependent on how well you do as a team! This means I can focus on team survival by killing the most dangerous bosses and leave the egg-collecting "cleanup" to my teammates! I don't have to worry about collecting eggs so much, and can worry more about survival!

What I would usually do is just kill the most threatening bosses even if they were on the other side of the map. Like if I had killed a boss like 15 feet away from the egg basket I would help collect the eggs instead of going for the Stinger on the other side of the map. When I started worrying about my pay being on how many eggs I individually collected per game, I focused less on team survival and we lost more naturally. Now that I know the Job Pay is dependent on Team gold/power eggs collected and I can focus on Survival again, and it's great!

When you get to Profreshional there's going to be more bosses than your egg quota. If I can I try to nab one egg per boss I kill. Even then there are at least 2 more bosses to kill on the way.

Unless the boss is close enough to base collecting all the eggs isn't worth it.

When you play Salmon Rush in the offline version, you can choose stuff like the stages, weapons, and difficulty. Your pay grade determines the difficulty, with the higher pay grades making for higher difficulty.

Although the random strangers you join usually feel dumber than a bag of rocks, I'm willing to bet their skill level/pay grade is factored into your games somehow. Like only people over 200% join games with people over 200%, or if somebody in the group has a lower pay grade than everybody else then the quotas are lower. I can't think of any other reason why some rounds the quota is 12, or 16 or whatever.

If you want ability chunks scrubbing gear after max leveling them is a sure thing. Reason being is that after super bonus the only rewards are clothing in Salmon Run. They may or may not come with abilities. Still each clean gear sold is worth 4000.

Garbage, though it's not as much worse than the rest of the game as it was in Splatoon 1 (because all matchmaking is now region locked to put Americans with laggy beaners, not just Splatfest).
Turf war is the worst mode in the game. Only the last 30 seconds matter, but there's no knockout condition so every match wastes 2 and a half minutes. Sheer amount of ink output matters more than any other mode, so you can't carry your team except in truly extreme circumstances–if you have bad teammates, you are just fucked. This is especially a problem because teams are not random. If you picked the team that the retards flocked to you are fucked more games than not and there is nothing you can do about it. This is compounded by the fact that losing makes it take longer to max out your rank, so not only are you having less fun, you have to waste more time in a mode that is already 5/6 wasted time.

Anybody have severe connection issues right now? I have a wired connection and it keeps having troubles connecting every other match. I've had a couple matches where I can't lay my ink on the ground due to connectivity, despite watching the entire rest of the match function perfectly fine in front of me.

I've been getting drops more frequently. It's most likely servers. I doubt it's my WiFi since connections have never been this bad before.

I just recorded 7 1/2 hours of footage today, and I can confirm this bullshit. I tried dualies, n-zapper, and octobrush, and I can't hold a candle to those faggots with the aerospray and the curling bomb rush. It's unmatched. I won't stoop to that level, though.

Using the OctoBruck + InkBrush, I was on a big loosing streak. Later I switched strategy to just stick close to a strong teammate, and try to control the mid by pushing enemy out of midfield, and I started winning much more. Aerosprays, dualies, and curling bombs are popular, but not that big of a headache for me. The constant ink-armor does bug me though.

If it makes you feel better I chased an Aerospray scrub into the water with vanilla roller while he was spamming curling bombs. Apparently if you can catch a curling bomb spammer pants down and they're not smart enough to shoot back you can wipe them with a couple flings or chase them into a corner.

Work stole my splatfest time from me yesterday because a guy called in. So I spent what little game time I had trolling with bottom tier weapons to get those epic splats. I had more thrill with those than winning due to lack of time. Made it to Invisibility Queen before splatfest ended.

i only tried the erospray once and i couldnt stand the inaccuracy. is it really considered that easy to use when practically any other weapon can slap you around? if i want excellent coverage there are plenty of options that are also good at being weapons.

So far it seems Aerospray's prime strategy is to ink the entire map first then CQC Tommygun anyone that tries to leave spawn unless you're good at tossing suction bombs. The fun thing is even rollers have longer reach than Aerosprays. Sure Splooshies and Juniors don't have that reach either. However their specials and slightly longer/quicker killing power for Junior and Splooshie resprctively gives them a higher skill ceiling. Aerospray MG's skill ceiling seems to be the floor.

Even as a new player, I could tell Flight was going to win, as my teammates were absolute garbage from the Invisibility perspective. From 6 am to 8 am or so, I had a pretty good winning streak, and my teammates worked together quite well, but come the afternoon, people refused to push forward, and stayed on their half of the map. I often times found myself fighting 3 or 4 of the other team alone because my retard team would not advance.

Also, holy shit, Aerospray MG and Curling Bomb Rush. I saw Flight chain that special time and again, and it was obnoxious as hell. There's no beating it when the entire team does it. Oh well. I got 21 snails, despite being the loser.

As a Flight player I had the opposite impression. I saw the worst players I've seen since the early days of Splatoon 1 Splatfests on Flight. It got a little better after my first 7 games, though.

I have an older than dirt Nintendo branded Wii adapter that I used with my Wii U and now with my Switch. It works quite well. The only disconnects I ever got were after the results of a match, but I did have a couple of fights where my ink had absolutely no effect on the map or other players.

The aerospray is trash, sure, but an entire team chaining curling bomb rush can pretty much cover an entire map with no opposition. It was the common most tactic I saw yesterday, and I was shocked to see how effective it was. It's generally pretty trash when a single user uses it, but with three or four on a team doing it at once is insanity.
