Combat being shit should definitely be a bigger concern though. I don't even know if anyone in this thread has mentioned it, but there's effectively no magic in the game, or at least magic that isn't a colossal pain in the ass to use. Phoenix downs and potions for healing, and you can't even delegate those duties to a companion…

How long a game was worked on doesn't factor into how rushed it ended up being.

When a game has hundreds of devs and feature creep sets in and nobody planned anything out it can cause projects to take longer than they really should. You can make a game of this scale a fraction of the time with half of the development team.

There was a book written in the 90s that putting more software devs on a project ends up making it take longer than it would with less. And that's really appropriate to overly bloated AAA projects like this.

You spend most of the time just traveling . The side quest are mostly just random fetch quests that MMOs would blush at. It is very pretty though. Probably the shiniest turd I have ever seen.

The gist of magic is that it comes in 3 elements only (fire/lightning/ice). Each has to be harvested by Noctis from gathering points scattered about the world.

You can craft magic spells from these, using items (you also need the containers to hold the crafted spells in, which are permanent items you get from quests)

All your spells will be with those three elements, mixed or not. You can add debuffs by using certain items as catalysts while crafting.

Spells are basically just bombs, that also harm/disable your allies.

There are no buff or support spells.

Those requirements are actually alignment with 4K. 4K has over 300% more pixels than 1080, and unless you're using a gigantic screen or sitting really fucking close to it, you really aren't going to notice a difference, yet you're going to need a significantly more powerful GPU to even get 60FPS. For example, a 1080 Ti is going to barely get 60FPS in Witcher 3 on Ultra at 4K, while a 1070, which is a whopping 30% slower (and before the miner shitshow ruining prices, was 50% cheaper) is going to get ~80FPS at 1080p.

I just beat the game the other night and I have to say it's janky as fuck. You could tell as soon as you left Lucis the rest of the game is an unfinished mess, the little Venice city does nothing and there is little to do there. CINEMATIC TRAIN RIDES where they make you wait for the train to reach a event flag, the entire Evil Empire is killed off screen and you never get to meet any of the Niffleheim higher ups in base game, after the OLD BOY plot twist where you get locked in a box for 10 years the only sign that time has passed is that everyone has a fucking beard now was so stupid I actually laughed when even Prompto had a soul patch since they couldn't be bothered to make any of them look any different. Not to mention you're not allowed to explore the broken world at all so it goes to show they didn't even fucking put anything in there.

Ifrit was the only cool thing in last 'area' because it was the closest this game got to a good boss fight where your teammates didn't constantly fuck up (Like against Ravus). But then they ruin it when you make it to Ardyn it devolves into that fucking Zone of the Enders style flight combat at the end where its hard to tell what the fuck is going on. Then you hit circle a few times and it's all over.

The real question I have though is where does the series go after this? Apparently this is the biggest selling FF title, at launch at least, and after FFXIII they seem to really want to stick to the whole very modern magic setting that I'm not a fan of. As far as I can assume it's probably all so they can more easily fit in product placement like Cup Noodle or Colemans.

You clearly don't understand how to read that chart, so I'll explain it to you. The lines labeled "full benefit of X" are giving you the farthest distance you can sit from a screen of a given size and resolution to optimally differentiate that resolution from the one "above" it on the chart. We move up from there, into the shaded territory, which is where we can still perceive an ever-shrinking difference, up until we hit the next line, which is where we can no longer differentiate that resolution from the previous one.

So for your example of 30" 720p vs 1080p screens, any distance inside about 5.5 feet and you're going to notice the difference between the two.

It isn't really a confirmation, he is just saying the value hasn't been finalized. It'll probably be less, but the more hilarious scenario is that they find a way for it to be even larger.
