It would be .Hack with a less convoluted story with real world segments sprinkled through out the game where it accumulates to killing the evil CEO that took over your company in the virtual world so badly it fries the CEO's brain.

not vidya

Come to think of it. The original American psycho book would work as a game

I would be conforting her every night, if you know what I mean.

Child rape is actually a plot point in the road.

This doesn't actually make sense if it's a group eating one of their own babies, the mother would use up more extra calories while pregnant than the group would get from the baby.

Lots of things about The Road don't make sense once you start thinking about them.

An Alice in Wonderland themed Dark Souls.

No.

weak

The Road is just an edgelord's fantasy, similar to the Cross comic series.

Starship Troopers

Only without the benefit of psychotic horny lolis.

This masterpiece

Manga are technically books

Do you guys unironically read books?

Don't worry, I get books from the library and write memes in the margins so that future readers get a better experience.

Isn't that Halo?

Bump because it is and you’re triggered by it.

A Ringworld game would basically be EVERYTHING that No Man’s Sky failed at being. And it would actually be fun.

I've read surprisingly many different books for how much I don't care for.

Last of Us is a rip off of this.

How so?

The last of us was a rip off of the road and the walking dead.

It doesn't make sense other than as a metaphor for human resilience and mourning.

...

that would make an awful MMO unless you started on a brand new or almost new server

The Elenium

Imagine Mountain Blade except with bug demons that can kill your with their brains and more happas and a lot more fun.

What in the flying fuck is a "happa"?

葉っぱ is leaf.

This. I want Bad Company's 2 Rush/Siege mode.

Never read the book(?) but any game based on that cover art has to be good.

The Last of Us took a lot of notes from The Road and weren't every subtle about it. Naughty Dog obviously didn't have the balls to go as brutal as Road did but its the closest to the book in terms of games right now.

I remember reading The Ruby Knight back in elementary school, shit was excellent.

Nothing Lasts Forever

Book.
The cover art is based on a scene where a group of the Church Knights is going through an old battlefield and trying to find a dead king. One of the guys knows a small amount of necromancy, and is able to call the dead - however, not everything on that field is human. So they find one of the large mounds, and decide it's worth a shot - and it turns out it's a fuckhueg demon that they accidentally bring back from the dead, and have to kill again.

Sparhawk, the main protagonist and the guy depicted on the cover, is using the spear of the royal family of the nation, which is the only weapon they can use to kill it, since it has a magic ring hidden in a space between the shaft and the tip. The spear was originally just a shitty spear that one of his ancestors picked up on the battlefield after his sword broke, and eventually, only that guy (also named Sparhawk; everyone in his line is named Sparhawk) and the King remained. The two switched weapons, so the king used the spear and the ancestral Sparhawk used the king's sword, and every since, the two families became inseparable until just the generation prior.

The books themselves are kind of generic in terms of plot, because the author was a Lit professor who realized that all of the really successful books did sort of the same thing, so he basically wrote a book using "generic fantasy plot" except with a bunch of cool characters. And then he did the same thing a bunch of other times, with the Elenium (and its sequel series, to a somewhat lesser extent) being the best. Not exactly hard reads, but they're fun to read, unlike most fantasy stuff you see nowadays.

You must be at least 18 to post on this board.

You must be not a liberal to post on this board.

Brett Easton Ellis would never sign off on it. He hates video games.

I rest my case.

Would completely miss the point of the book or I guess prove it tho

Monsters and Guns

The real gimmick isn't even the fights - though those are great, when they happen - as much as it is the travels. A lot of stories have the characters go from Point A to Point B, as the plot goes along - the Elenium, sort of like LOTR, focuses a huge amount on the journey itself. The difference is that, while Tolkein was an amazing worldbuilder and focused mostly on that, Eddings tends to ignore things like the local countryside, and focuses on things like the characters bantering in camp. Since the story pretty much follows Sparhawk, a huge amount also happens off-screen, only to get told about with embellishment later - and oftentimes with someone else saying something along the likes of "that's not quite how it happened."

That's not to say it's all travel, of course. There's a lot of time spent in the cities as well, where the dangers shift a lot. Yeah, sometimes there's a fight that breaks out or whatever, but it all depends on the point in the story. You still get a few nice exchanges:

Reading it is sort of like reading something that uses dramatic irony - you as the audience already know about 90% of everything that's going to happen because it's all stuff that's happened in other fantasy stories. What makes it work is that you actually want the main characters to have a happy ending, and you want to see bad things happen to the bad guys. It's kind of the opposite of something like Uncommon Time, where the people who deserve to suffer get out just fine, and the people who did nothing wrong are forced to suffer the most, and it just leaves you with a bad feeling. Perhaps more importantly, that 10% that is a surprise becomes all of the better because of - because the story convinces you that you know everything, it's a lot more of a shock when something comes out of left field.

Admittedly, I might be doing the same thing - the books series is fun, but I hold no illusions over it being great literature. Even my descriptions might be exaggerations as to the quality. But it's a series I read in 5th Grade, read again 8th Grade, and have read every few years since. Probably will do it again soon, after having brought this up.

Haven't actually read this yet, but the premise sounds nice.
Gameplay

Why is this video so quiet? I have everything maxed out and still can't hear what they're saying.

...

...

I don't know about you, but when a video game has video games as a plot element it just sounds masturbatory and out of place.

Why the fuck do you think I'm playing one? It's just preaching to choir and it gets fucking annoying and cringeworthy. Far Cry Blood Dragon was guilty of this, but at least the rest of the game made up for it.

...

I went out of my way to read this because the movie announcement and ive got to say the way they talk about the Oasis mechanics and interaction don't go in depth enough to really gauge how combat and stats honestly function only going so far as to say you need X stat to wields X item

She spoke at my Highschool once

belgariad the best but it would make a worse vidya

Conan. I'm to tired to post a picture and pitch it. The 2007 game was alright.

They should make produce it to be like Tales of Radiata.

Mistborn

I mad.

The more I read the first 3 novels the more I hated them.
I think its because vins a bit to perfect all the fucking time.
Might make a neat setting for a game though.

they already did though.

Not to hijack the thread, but any good scifi book suggestions would be nice. I like space and cyberpunk, I loved The Stars my Destination and Neuromancer.

The forever war was really good, the sequel and the other book he wrote weren't as great though.

A Deepness in the Sky
Dune
The Forever War
Starfish

Coincidentally, I just picked up her Morgaine series recently at a used bookstore because I thought they looked rad.

Some sort of golden era of 3d shooter style slice and dice game
Perhaps with rpg elements where as you adjust to the planet you gain a agility, strength, or psychic ability

Armor, which coincidentally would also make for a good game. Would basically be like EDF in nuclear power armor going God Hand on bugs when you run out of ammo.

The man who can make gunpowder out of piss will be king. BWAHAHAHA.

Might as well post the cover with it since it's a nice cover

I would love to see a massive range of Discworld sim games. You could take so many approaches to it too.

That kind of thing.

I've been needing to read this for a while, but your description and that cover have officially convinced me to track down a copy tonight… well, this morning.

We was about to have something based off of that, but they fucked us user. They fucked us hard.

Fun fact: Disney quite probably based the character of Jack Sparrow off of a character from this book.

...

uhmmm i dunno maybe

PUBG's Game Rules with Rust's Gameplay

An Open world Dr.Seuss Game

I would kill for a Morrowind type open world game that covers Redwall and Matimeo. Those books were rad.

Sounds like a name of a hentai

The movie explains the fruit as left over pickled goods. Along with most vegetables that are found.

Get your head out of the gutter

A game based on the road would be the wet dream of all suruvial games settings. Hell the road already a wet dream among the prepping community.

Fallout: DUST

it's shit

go play TLoU you filthy pleb , just replace the annoying little shit going "papa , papa" every two minutes that for some reason hasn't been strangled to death and cooked over a spit-roast within the first two minutes of the movie with some even more annoying bitch with terrible AI and you have your ebin meem gaem

WoW

The bobiverse books. I'd picture it like rimworld but your AI in space with a lot of alone time.

Haha, I'm so clever

I only enjoy them ironically
Not to worry

You didn't have to go and prove him right

Don't know if this counts.

Literally Thief but with a grand overarching adventure. The author was heavily inspired by Thief 1 and 2, the book protagonist's name is Garrett, and there is a huge location at the end of the third book that is inspired by the Bonehorde, except is described as stretching for miles and miles, and filled with eldritch horrors from before the time of man.

They call it "Halo"

The Black Company.

I'd play the shit out of a mistborn game I should get around to reading the other books too

I want another Dune game but considering the state of the industry, it would be a cinematic survival game with crafting garbage.

Anyone here read the Metro 2033 book?
Anyone also sad about how much stuff they didn't put in the game?

Yes and I'm glad they didnt do it exactly like the book. A game where you kill what, 1 guy?
But you are right theres lot they could have done, like not being an on rails shooter for starters.

Apparently, there is an English translation. The first book is called Shadow Prowler, dunno about the rest. Also having a hard time finding a free copy online. Russian books are really easy to read online for comparison.

Wasn't the whole reason the broke off from GSC because they wanted to take STALKER in a more linear, metro like, direction?

I'd like a game where you're playing as Jaralaxle throughout his entire storyline. Whatever you fight, fuck, fuck up, unfuck, and aliance you broker affects the overall storyline.

or it's a JoJo clone in all manners and it's a fighting game

I don't mind the addition of the nosalises or that you kill more people, but a lot of the supernatural shit came short. Khan was a lot more interesting in the book and stuff like the cannibal tribe was cut completely. The Kremlin monster was a complete disappointment too.

The teams that worked on STALKER got fired after each installment if I remember right. The ones that worked on SoC got picked up by Deep Silver to work on a similar game.

I read it, and no I'm not sad they didn't include that extra stuff. It reads great, but it would turn the game into a boring, empty walking simulator.

And? It's still a book plothole.

Electricity was a mistake.

Oh boy, I can't wait for a true-to-source-material game where I spend hours walking down ruined Roads and have to tell my son that unfortuneately that half a tin of beans he's eating might be all he gets for the next day.

The Road would literally be a terrible vidya because the only way you'd be able to properly make it into a game would be as a walking sim with long portions of the game involving you just walking along a road being depressed. Sure the whole using wooden 'bullets' to make your revolver look like it's fully loaded so you can intimidate people thing might sound like a cool idea, but if you translated the book into a game you'd get to use it maybe once or twice every hour or so and there'd be no other action.

In all honesty, "The Postman" would make a more interesting video game, and that would trigger Holla Forums because it'd have Feminists be the good guys.

Wasn't the Myth series loosely inspired by the Black Company? At the very least it's got a high fantasy setting with a massive war going on and the focus on smaller groups of mostly mundane soldiers.

Starship Troopers. The book, not the movie. Gameplay as the different branches of the military, but with a strong focus on the jumping troop. Power armor done right, fighting truly alien life that's trying to destroy humanity and actually causes serious damage to Earth. A war that's truly brutal, and there are battles that you cannot win, only try to survive. Some tense levels where your army is searching for the bugs and your unit is spread out quite far (but within jumping distance) and the enemy could attack from underground anywhere at anytime, and may even make use of diversions and decoys. You could play different roles in the operations. You'd have to defend pickup points from aliens when it came time to retreat. Spooky underground levels going through dark confusing labyrinths where you know the enemy is near you, watching and could attack anytime from any direction, or every direction. Good flamethrowers and explosives, leaping infantry doing one man bombing runs.

Story would focus on duty and honor, and struggle against the odds. The power of a band of brothers who would die for each other.

...

Eventually you could be promoted to field commander, still in combat but responsible for coordination of a team with XCOM/Fire Emblem style teammate permadeath. Sending squads with different strengths/gear to handle different threats or aspects of a mission. Or maybe you'd be in charge of just one squad, and still be taking orders from a higher up coordinating the larger scale battles.

sage for doublepost

Actually, humanity was wiping the floors with the Bugs. The Bugs have no effective counter against the MI.

Thanks, couldn't remember what they were called.

Anyway yeah you're right, but the bugs had incredible numbers and were willing to use nearly suicidal tactics to gain an advantage. As I recall in the book the war was pretty evenly matched for quite a while, until near the end when humanity figured out a new type of planet wiping weapon that was effective against the bugs, but even then there was a long struggle ahead.

I like how in i am legend he is always thinking about raping a vampire. It would make a good mini game

...

Bump and reported because it triggers you.

The setting at least.

>The males from MC race are dumb, emotionally unstable and impulsive like a teenage girl
>Main antagonists: Their social and political [dis]organization revolves about a quality called sfik, which combines face, authority, and ferociousness. Sfik is gained through victory in combat, or possession of something of value, or just the respect of others: followers with strong sfik give more sfik to their leader. A kif that loses sfik is likely to have its followers either defect or kill it. As a result, the kif are prone to change sides at the first sign of weakness. They seem to have no other moral values; they are pirates and cannibals, and are generally deemed troublesome by the other species.A very accurate description of female social behavior IMO

This is seriously Rip and Tear the book. It's like a more over the top version of the Starship Troopers movie.

I would recommend these. Yea I know they are books written after D&D adventures, but fuck were they a good read.

...

Skip the first 3 books. The second series is much better.

Post more of that Fairy

Man, come on, don't get pissy about Crossed. It's fine for what it is, and doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Pure guilty pleasure gore porn for people that like trashy low budget horror movies.

It would make a piss poor game though.

You're lucky there's some rule34 of that fairy specifically.

Shit no, it's fucking star trek, don't people know anything?

Starring…

Leonard Nemoy
as
Mr. Spock
as
Nessus!

and for good measure, why not compliment this with…

Michael Dorn
as
Worf
as
Speaker to Animals!

Also, the borg are protectors completely inverted, ferrengi could act as particularly unpleasant puppeteers, and Q might even have been able to play jack brennan.

WTF is that thing??? That smile is creepy as all hell.

He a dead, user. He died of death a while ago. He ain't gonna star as no one.

Are those tits real?

unless it's a hell of a lookalike, no, Troi's toys aren't that big. You can find her topless scene from an old movie with a simple image search.

No.

What is this "gonna" you're babbling? He already did play that very role.

look at her neck where the light cuts off especially

No, he didn't. And he never will.

Nope, sorry, he did!

No, he didn't, no matter how much you delude yourself. Now you can sit there and be a faggot and pretend you're shitty little Ringworld, which came out after Star Trek might I add, exists but you'll have to do it by yourself because I'm not wasting any more of my time arguing with such a ricky retardo any longer.

He did. Nimoy played the part. Err, spock played the part. Errr, Nimoy played the part of Spock playing the part:

Don't listen to these anons, DUST is great and it effectively turns fallout nv into a survival horror with rpg elements. It was really influenced by the road and a boy and his dog. Though avoiding the absurd amount of tunnelers in the beginning is tedious.

The real disappointment for me was how little it captured how dire and shitty the situation was. Like the tunnels in game felt smaller and less dark than I'd imagined. And I really felt like the dark ones were presented weird.
But I suppose already knowing what they were trying to do didn't help.

...

How is the book? I went ahead and ordered a copy after being surprised with how good Armor is.

I had no idea books could be this fun and action packed.

TBH, Starship Troopers is a more military/political philosophy book rather then an Action book, a majority of the book takes place in boot/officers camp and flashbacks to Civics class.
it is still a pretty good book though, and I recommend you read the whole thing because of the context that you get from the small snippets of flashbacks/speeches.

Brave New World. Not sure how that will turn out to be but I find it great how the book manages to put such a good picture in my mind.

That's fine, I don't mind a change of pace. I suppose the only thing that worries me is sounds sort of like it ends on a cliffhanger never to be finished.

how often do books become video games when there aren't movies based on them?

The book has a few main sections, but it doesn't leave out most of the main bug assaults, is probably saying how a game developed around the book won't have everything and/or only focus on one part of the book.
As far as the ending goes there isn't any real cliffhanger or spoilers.

the road was a fucking shit book

not often
only one I can think of is the metro series and even then the second game isnt based around the second book but the third game is suppose to be more similar to the third book

the third book annoyed the shit out of me, everyone was so awful and unlikable

Gotcha, I'm excited to give it a read.
never thought I'd be picking up book recommendations from Holla Forums.

I like Crossed, especially Wished you were here

Suprrier is such a piece of shit though, friends with fucking leigh alixander

I was forced to read this book in school
what a shitty hunger game ripoffs

Yeah, so I found the translation.

While listening to the road audiobook. It made me think. How many video games out there that had balls to show dead babies?

Crossed is enjoyable until you get to the current year shit. I love how even edgy comics become feminist propaganda.

It's a great book worth reading, but the ending is sort of disappointing if you're expecting to read until humanity's eventual victory or defeat. But like that other user said, the story isn't really what the book is about.

2/10; some actual anger flared up.

it's like the writers of such trash are basement-dwelling leftards who imagine all humans behaving like themselves and nigger apes

no thx

I completely agree with you. I can't really recall many points in the game that felt truly claustrophobic, and stuff like tunnel madness wasn't a thing at all. They could've done a lot more horror with it.
I read the book after I played the game. Was still disappointed by the adaption.
I'll give them credit for nailing the general atmosphere and lifestyle of the people in the metro. They didn't miss the mark completely.

It's really, really not, unless you read it in junior highschool or something. But the main characters are all genuinely decent, knightly people so that can actually be kind of refreshing depending on what else you've been reading lately.

oh yeah
I'm convinced that obsidian are going to be allowed to make a disappointing RTWP rpg with this at some point. By now it should be obvious that every writer in their office has read & absorbed it and tries to mimic it's tone.

For that reason I'd prefer that almost any other game developer on the planet made a malazan game instead. Warhammer total war might have used the Malazan setting in an alternate universe & been better for it.

Wasn't this made specifically for gaming purpose at first?

I don't know anything about Crossed and wanted to read it, but what the fuck are you talking about ? I don't want to read this if there is that kind of SJW shit in it.

From what ive gathered from anons and the occasional LOL threads posting pics of it the one making it has gone full kool aid but the earlier work is just edgy shit without the SJW stuff.

I don't know how well Malazan would have worked as a Total War since it's not like there's really all that many factions with significant armies at any given time, plus all the really interesting stuff happens on the interpersonal scale. I think it would probably work great as like an RTS/RPG on the scale of Dawn of War 2, where you rotate through controlling groups of characters from different parts of the story.

I believe the world/history was built for a tabletop gaming group the author ran with some other guy, and then several years later he turned the setting into a novel.

The plot is based on a GURPS campaign the authors played, the first novel was at first a movie script before being rewritten as an actual book.

Yeah, Myth was inspired by Black Company.

I want an XCOM clone with an MHI skin to it.

There's an old graphic adventure game for DOS, but that's probably not what you're looking for.

Old Testament RTS nation building game with the various gods from that era that confer bonuses and perform miracles to smiteth thine enemies

Why does Crossed have no child nudity and rape?

They already made it.

itd be great

a third person stealth game then once shit gets real it turns into a action game and you have to bring down big brother

the telescreens could act like security cameras and you have to sneak past them by hugging the wall underneath them

...

Call me a faggot if you want but I think pic related could work in an almost Bioshock/systemshock-esque fashion. Just make it as dark as Garth was clearly intending it to be instead of babbies first sci-fi fantasy like scholastic made it.

I don't know what the book is about, but if what is saying is true, then it literally already exists and has existed for several years before NMS was even announced. Too bad it's p2p now.

Is that screenshot some kind of Unreal Tournament 2004 mod?

Every movie based on that novel raped the lore

crossed also becomes pro Muslim refugees/Islam propaganda later

Oh my

Last Man on Earth was pretty close

Saging because of that travesty.

Now keep in mind someone in this thread tried to recommend that comic, even here they try to force their garbage on us.

Dune
The Witcher

Yo, in one book people were just falling into comas at random and no one in the normal world had any idea how to stop it. Imagine living that nightmare.

Yes. Yes you should. There is some wack-ass powers introduced in the second trilogy, not to mention the banana shit they do with guns + allomancy. Main character has Steelpushing and the ability to make himself lighter or heavier, which scientifically makes bonkers amounts of nonsense - and yet this fact is actually pointed out by an in-universe character who is researching allomancy.

Look, a setting based on the real entire setting would be AMAZING, but it will never happen.

Probably just someone with shit taste.

like the the saboteur but you play as the good guys

In Ringworld, some humans and aliens explore an ancient alien artifact: a ring-shaped space station that is 1 million miles wide with a radius equal to the distance between Earth and the Sun. It spins to provide gravity and the inner surface is almost entirely habitable. Aside from the Great Ocean and the Other Great Ocean ((surface area of about two Jupiters each), it’s a cornucopia of different terrains; boreal, river, plains, desert, etc. It’s the PERFECT setting for procedural generation and would–statistically–NEVER run out of new things. You could space 1 million people evenly across the ring and let them travel for their entire lives and not one of them would ever meet another. On top of that, the Ringworld was created by those ancient aliens and populated with their offspring, but when their empire fell, the Ringworld was left to the ravages of evolution for hundreds of thousands of years. So in the books (there are four) the crews meet a whole slew of different bipedal humanoid aliens (green giants who’ve become partially photosynthetic, “vampires” who always live under the perpetual shadow of the floating cities, straight up “regular” humans except with no noses, otter-people, etc. All that could be procedural, too.

The series went downhill after the second book, I think. They were page-turners with enough infodump to sate that sci-fi worldbuilding autism and then the next two weren't nearly as good. Known Space in general is a good universe though

A Hunter game would be fun too.

Jesus fucking Christ. When did this come out? This isn't the Crossed I was defending. Fuck.

Don't humans turn into some sort of weird guardian form from eating certain fruit on the ringworld? That's one of the weird things I saw when reading some random wiki pages.

Game of thrones dude haha
Yeah there's Crusader Kings 2 which even without the GOT mod contains all the ebil medieval times and sexism and diseases and war and religion since Parajew studios love to milk it's games as-well as be a biased current year fanfic

Holy fucking shit, this better be bait or you need to really get the fuck out this second.

My nigga

Monster Hunter International.

...

That seems pretty fucking rad.

A hitman clone?
