You can kind of see what Feral was going for with the word choice she uses for Teagan, especially in the NUCLEAR scene, but because her perception of abuse (and Alto's by extension) is so warped, she sees a friend giving up everything to support Alto as abusive and lackies who don't contribute anything but consistently praise Alto as sincere friends.

I tried to do something like that for Teagan, but I don't think I can make a song as beautiful as that. Meanwhile, Meirin's theme is currently a frantic clusterfuck of 10/8 to some other signature that I am considering scrapping and starting over with.

You know, that reminds me of some thoughts I had on some possible character development for Teagan. See, before she realizes Alto is a dumb shit, she's already afraid of letting people get close to her. In what FP said about Teagan's history, that she hated the fact that her brother became a prostitute for example, Teagan has a messed up sense of intimacy that resulted in her being, as FP put it, "aro ace". Further, Alto being the aforementioned dumb shit would probably have put her in a state where she's so done with everyone else that it would be hard for her to open up to anyone. Therefore Teagan's development would be about her opening up to others, a slow but steady process where at the start she's kind of cold towards everyone but by the ending the main party are her true companions. I would personally avoid a romance arc for someone so clearly messed up, at least in a single game, but there's always a possibility of it in a distant future. Who knows, maybe she'll become the kind of free spirit who isn't held down in any one place by any one person instead, I don't fucking know.

It's about the same as VX, only now everything everywhere is editable and it comes with a handful of scripts for things, monster encyclopedias and the like. Also you can change between side and front battle schemes. Also somehow even though nothing's changed, they've made the gui unbearable. Also there's layers sort of, where you can paint things onto the map, and then another thing over that, and keep doing that seemingly indefinitely. The character generator's a little bit better, taking into account the ability to switch from front to side battle and those small additions.

You know how Holla Forums sometimes pretends a game exists when it doesn't? Like King of the Hill Online or some shit? Basically that, but with an original idea and a sound track to evoke certain ideas. See, we all have played enough video games to know what certain songs represent in video games. There was a fucking template thread for a while about "X level, Y starts playing" for a long ass time. I'm sure there's a memorable moment from a video game where the song for that moment is etched into your mind. Another common idea I'm sure you've seen in a template thread, or post in said thread, is when the main theme starts playing during the final boss. Do I even have to mention how end credit medleys are the best? We cam musically map out a game entirely by it's soundtrack. Since Holla Forums has so few programming types but a lot of artists and a few musicians, and drawfags have their own thread, why not give musicfags something to do? I imagine it would turn out better than most of our other projects. Heck, the Musical was fine aside from the time Val fucked it up, and Holla Forums sings usually goes well from what I recall. Basically I like the idea of a soundtrack for something that doesn't exist, because it can evoke familiar feelings in a new context. Did I even make any sense?

This is a cool idea. Going from a pistol to a rifle is a fairly clear progression, even if revolver rifles are fuckall retarded.

I think that's lost the style of a revolver, though, which would be really the only point to using a revolver over a Mars. Backup Kolibri is fine.

Hey DUETanon, since you can edit the game, is there a way to make an options setting or something to use either the original OST, a modified OST that someone like me could make, or no OST at all?

If we're using the black powder LeMat, it's pretty much just limited to what you can jam down either the 44 I believe revolver chambers, or the shotgun barrel.
Otherwise, just percussion caps and powder.

Any sufficiently epic substitute will be fine. Just as long as it fucks enemies' shit.

It should be a system wherein the shotgun barrel gets different ammo types which augment his "fuck your shit, shotgun round time" attack.

Mechanics-wise, BP is easy. You just measure your black powder, add a cap, and add a bullet. You're done. That's all.
For the sake of the game, this is just under 'reloading', effectively. You say you have X amount of cap & powder for X number of shots, and then add your magic whatever for the "bullet", which'll have different effects.

Admittedly, this does ignore differing loads of powder, but I doubt anyone really cares that much, and besides, you really shouldn't change your powder load much.

Powder is admittedly running low rather quick. But that's because you put a lot more than you'd guess in these things, and I only got the one fairly small jug.

Yeah it's not as elegant as the original percussion gun, but you can't tell me it's not exactly what a Webley wants to be when it grows up and it's testicles drop.

This was something that ALWAYS felt odd to me and really didn't make any sense for her character. Throughout the entire story up to that point she had been telling people that the entire World Tuning thing wasn't real, it was the Cantabiles being insane, rich degenerates. For her to have outright witnessed what she did to the point she no longer doubts the World Tuning, I don't see why she would ever destroy the sheet music. It honestly reeks of "Well, she's the villain, so she needs to do something evil!!!"

That we know of. The Cantabiles are the ones in charge of this ritual because their ancestor was the one who made the ritual in the first place. The thing is, the fairies outright say that during the Fairy/Human war, people were raping each other left and right. Who is to say there isn't another demi-Fae out there somewhere who just doesn't know it?

I always figured she, even there, was so to speak 'looking out for' Alto, viewing the score as something holding Alto down, and keeping her stuck in the past, so to speak.

Here, if any of us are serious about this, we should shake up the formula a bit. You know how music is a big theme? How best girl is a master violinist? Why not actually make music part of the gameplay?

Combatwise, all I mean is some skills with quick-time events like Paper Mario. Feck, I'd actually go as far as to put a spin on Lisa: The Painful's mechanics. In that game, Armstrong style lets you execute combos by putting in the attack commands for certain skills like fireball and whatnot. That could easily be reworked into musical pieces that help in battle. One to heal, one to stun, one to buff the team, etc. We could top this off with a Medley piece, where the player can perform in freeform from what they remember; in a medley, they can combine the commands for different musical skills and use all their effects at once.

Musical notes could become a collectible, a reward for getting new party members, completing sidequests, finding secrets and hitting plot points. You could find them as whole pieces (instantly giving you the skill) or as separate notes for a whole part (e.g need to find 3 pieces to get a skill).

Obviously this'd be a lot of work on the musicfags, which is why I'd suggest each part just be a short, enjoyable jingle.

And another user made a good post about how closed off Teagan would be, given her upbringing and what Alto did. If her arc in this would be learning to open up again, well…music is good for the soul, ain't it?

I actually really like this idea. Fits with the theme, and a hardass might be someone Teagan can begrudgingly relate to. It gives me an idea for a tutorial.

Is it still going to be an RPG? How do you plan on implementing these mechanics? Is it time-based or do you input commands at the beginning? Do you need a custom script for this?

Of course it'd be an RPG, it'd still keep the same framework. Just some skills would have input commands for them. While I admit I've not exactly mastered RPGMaker yet, I know that mechanics like these can be done and done well. I'll take a look into it this week to know how hard it all is, but since we're talking, why not throw an idea out, I figured?

The way I see it, there's two styles:

Complete ideafag-tier suggestion with no knowledge in RPG Maker, but I kinda like this idea, incorporating music in the battle system, but for
turn based combat. Now, I know almost nothing about music but I know there are different timings or meter or something, like 3/4 or 4/4. You could have different styles that have different passive bonuses and a "timing" like 4/4 or something. Then, each skill would be assigned a note like a half or full note. If you sync the notes up with the timing correctly, you'll get a bonus effect like an attack, heal, buff, etc. Every skill can have a color too, and certain combinations of colors can have extra effects too, like in Monster Hunter's hunting horns. Defending or passing one's turn will do nothing so you can pick and choose who should act that turn.
No idea how this can be coded in RPG Maker. Maybe give every skill a value that adds into a variable.
If that variable is equal to the timing's value, do an effect.
If it goes over the value, reset it to zero and the end of the turn.
Feel free to shit on.

You guys should get yourselves a slack team or discord or some shit (I'd personally advise slack, a bit better for smaller and more professional gatherings) to work on it.

There's something about the game that people overlook: Alto recruits the ensemble because they share the desire to destroy the world, and even though Teagan has the strongest will to save the world out of all them (she doesn't give up in ending 4 like the others) she still partially wants to destroy it.

Teagan takes Alto's treatment by her family really seriously. If Alto succeeds the World Tuning, she'll go back to her family for more of the same. Teagan loves her friend too much to accept that and has had the desire to stop the World Tuning since they left for Harmonia. She's willing to rip up the only chance of saving the world for the sake of her friend… who hates her.

Her actions might seem contradictory, but ripping up the score and still wanting to save the world in ending 4 come from the same motivation: Love for her family. The tragedy is that she considers Alto to be part of her family and there is no way that she can both protect Alto and save the world.

In a moment of desperation, she chooses Alto. And she's punished for it for the rest of her life.

Nah I'm done with this. I can't even think about this without getting mad now, especially after the last ending. Fuck Alto.

FeralPhoenix, the creator of the game, believes that you should be allowed to just never, ever forgive someone if they've been abusive towards you.

And while there's technically nothing wrong with that sentiment, the way she's chosen to portray it in the story suggests that she doesn't actually realize what it means to never forgive someone. Never forgiving Teagan should mean that she's out of the party. Instead, Alto wants to keep Teagan around for some reason, probably so that she can have someone to kick around whom she thinks won't fight back anymore.

She tells Teagan she'll never forgive her, yes, and she seems miffed that Meirin forgave Teagan given she brings it up when yelling at Teagan.

But it's even worse than that. Alto is not only against having to forgive others and move past prior wrongs, she applies it so far that people aren't even allowed to mend their relationships with themselves. She constantly reminds Teagan that Teagan did wrong so that Teagan will never forget it, and she also tells Aubrey to forever regret and never move past things that happened two thousand years ago. Teagan and Aubrey aren't even allowed to forgive themselves.

Indeed. It's one of the biggest components of abuse is that it damages a person on a deep level, and the effects can't simply be dusted off. I've unfortunately both experienced this firsthand and seen it happen in others, and it's one of the reasons this game is so baffling to me.

But pointing out that abuse victims' ability to have healthy interacts with others is damaged by the abuse and they have to work hard to overcome it is victim blaming.

Dev has another game out, another in the works, and more fanfic than you could shake a stick at.

It's a free game, but even then the dev hasn't celebrated 1,000 downloads even though they've celebrated 100, 250, 500 and 750 downloads. Holla Forums is pretty much the only place that actually discusses it every 6 months.

The dev has a VN, a few translations of things, another RPGM game in the works and 50+ Undertale fanfics.

What I dislike the most about that scene is that Alto never seems to regret anything she, personally, has done to others. She doesn't appear to actually know anything about regret for one's own actions, but since she's the author's self-insert, of course she's going to lecture someone else about it.

That is too fucking true. Her philosophy isn't tested this way at all; it's just a standard that exists for everyone but Alto.

If she thinks she can go through life without making a mistake, she's oblivious to the many she already has.

The current discord has settled on the game following the Remove Alto ending. We've talked about a possible Gaiden with a different premise, where Teagan escapes before Alto can catch her. To me, that'd be MUCH more interesting, because then you have an Alto who might have to confront her mistakes. I want to see this character see the mistakes she's been making; I think it's the most powerful thing that could be done, honestly.

Just download RPGMakerVX Ace and open the .rvproj2 file if you wanna mess around with the game itself. The graphics are already exported. It's all in the archive.

Also includes my gift to y'all from the first year, a collection of saves organized by where they are in the game. So, if you want to play though a certain part I'M NUCLEAR plays softly in the distance, then you can do it easily.
