Shantae Thread

Will you get Pirate Queen's Quest for Risky?

No lewd pictures allowed. Only discuss gameplay.

Yes

I already have it, or rather will have it when they get around to actually releasing it, because I hadn't yet learned not to support kickstarter shit.

boobs

How many of the Shantae games are good? Which ones can I emulate on 3DS?

nah

You gay user?

Do I have to be a good goy, again?

That's the plan. If they ever release the fucking thing.

So in HGH is her game type out yet?
I wasn't sure because I should have recieved it, I just got my Tinkerbat code recently.

...

shantae 2 qt

>tfw Shantae will never give you a private bellydance while she wears here Space Princess outfit

Depends if they add her to the 3DS games too.

I'd be all for it. The better outcome is just her doing me forever.

Disgusting.

Go away fartfag.

haha more like pirate queens chest

No thanks.

tfw i have to start over because i don't want to go through steam to play the game but the save is in some cloud.

Did you guys draw a map for the gameboy shantae game?

user, are you a gay nigger from outerspace?

You two haven't been on the internet for long.

Odd I haven't got mine yet

They should just make a Shantae dating sim already, seems like that's what people actually want.

Shit nigga, we're not exactly playing Wizardry here. It's simple enough that I could just remember where things were.

Fug

Rotty Hips > Risky Boobs

A man of taste, i see.

Maybe, depends on if it's actually good.

No, we need more games with good gameplay, not less. If you can only choose one, I'd rather have a good game with clothed titty monsters than a shit game where the titty monsters are datable/fuckable. In case A, thousands of internet artists are going to handle the rest anyway.

...

It's all part of her masterplan. She wonders what will break first, her spirit or her body?

TRAITOR

Sorry I'm in the Sky camp as well in that fuck this lying bitch. And I'll leave her to walk instead of giving her a magic falcon ride.

Her actions helped caused the events of the 3rd game as well man.

Will this contain the spanking scene do I wonder?

I've only played through Pirate's Curse, and I really liked it. I downloaded the one after that, but hated basically everything about it (particularly the aesthetic) so gave up after an hour. I also got the one before Pirate's Curse, but it's buggy, and kept crashing every time I went on the graphical options screen for some reason, so I haven't played it.

But user, Sky is bitter and collects birds instead of cats, so neither Rotty or Sky are worthy of semen.

What did he mean by this?

Go away, Bolo.

Risky's Revenge shouldn't be crashing at all, I haven't had a crash once for all the times I've beaten it. Bizarre. HGH really is only similar to Shantae in that it involves jumping and whipping with your hair, and belly dancing but PC is really a decent metroidvania. A little segmented so that I see where HGH was coming from compared to the older games that had tons of backtracking but still large enough for each area that it was a treat to explore. I still like GBC Shantae a lot, and if you removed the lives system like the later games, it'd be my favorite. The world is huge and travelling feels like it's actually dangerous as fuck.

Is Risky Revenge worth playing before Pirate Curse?

Pirate's Curse is the only good one.

Really? Whole series has only one good game?

♂️FUCK♂️YOU♂️

It's what I did- having never played a Shantae game before.

RR and PC are very different experiences. I'd argue PC is the better game overall. As a Metroidvania and for speedrunning- the levels are built better than RR. I'd say it's worth playing RR before PC just to see how much PC changed and improved from RR. There's also minor reoccurring characters that are funnier once you see how they are in RR.

I've heard people say Half-Genie Hero isn't as good as PC- and from what I've seen I'd agree (Bosses seem much too easy for one). Whether it's better than RR I have no clue.

honestly out of all the games before half genie hero (haven't played it yet myself) I think pirates curse is not only the best one but its so much better it makes the other games look like shit.

Was it really just because instead of transformations you had to wait for you had quicker powers/abilities?

It's not even that hard to implement. With Genie magic.

I.e.
Monkey Form -> Shoot out a ball of energy shaped like a Monkey as a human (Risky's pistol equivalent) -> Monkey form is invincible while jumping between parallel walls.

Elephant Form -> Slam into the ground and break blocks after jumping (since the elephant can't jump and won't always have a place to drop down from. Sword equivalent) -> Elephant forms can break through tougher blocks.

He's lying

The first one is pretty alright. It's got that every-other-title syndrome going on. The first one and Pirates Curse are worth playing. HGH is a decent game otherwise mangled by being a kikestarter project. RR is pretty shit tho.

No the first one sucks because the sprites are too large for the small Gameboy resolution.

That's only an issue in the fields and waterfall areas. The rest of the game plays fine with the sprite sizes.

That fucking cleavage is as lewd as it gets without going full on pornographic.

Fuck outta here, scum.

That defeats the purpose of her half-genie limitation of only being able to use magic via belly dancing. The first one was good about it because it actually took some skill to time the inputs and all dances took the same amount of time but bosses would have certain states that would be the correct amount of time to cast the spell (dance) to transform. The rest of the games are meh with transformations, but you do get the upgraded Form abilities in those games which are useful. Some of the things you mentioned are already implemented in Shantae games.

This. The dungeons are all perfect for the screen usage. The only thing is Shantae's hair has pitiful range but you can buy so many other attacks that do way more damage that it's a non-issue later.

That was my feeling on the game overall. The overworld was a real slog to traverse, especially at night when all the enemies turn into damage sponges, but the dungeons were great fun and I really enjoyed them.

Guys, I think I just realized who Risky's great grandmother must have been.

This is really what did it in for me. I would have taken on every enemy and not had a problem if they didn't double their health at night. Also there were some enemies with tracking projectiles that seemed a bit unfair for traveling through the desert. If there were a few more secrets, I would actually really like the size of world in the original. It's huge and if you add more paths to get around, it's a really neat place to explore. RR and PC feel much smaller by comparison, but I enjoy that every game has you go in different directions to keep world map continuity by not accidentally changing the locations of places. They just make you go to different places instead.

I would have liked HGH if the difficulty wasn't terribly inconsistent and the path to completion was clearer.

Yeah I dropped it soon after buying it. Some levels are a breeze while the next is just death after death with no mercy. Lotta bullshit boss moves too.

I never had these problems. The only time I remember dying a lot was from the Mermaid but that's because I was playing unsafe. What levels were bullshit?

Particularly the mermaid and the section where you're just sliding down a conveyor thing. It's not that they're super difficult themselves but more that that early on you're still really easy to kill if you're not fast enough to avoid a hit. Eventually you just die easily in 4 hits.

I didn't feel like the conveyor sections were ever that bad, but I will say the mermaid seemed a little too strong sometimes. Also took a shitload of hits to kill. The barrels to avoid were placed in a decent rhythm so once you get it into it, it should be easy to keep the pace going.

Shame they fucked up and extended the range about 2x longer than it needed to be in every sequel afterward. The original Shantae wasn't hard, but it's the closest the series have ever been to being challenging. As a result, the only other game which was fun was Pirates Curse - because they took away her transformations and made you chain multiple pirate attacks/powers together to access new areas.

I mean, her hair is about the length of the whip in Castlevania, and she takes contact damage. If it were a normal beat em up or Freedom Planet where contact damage doesn't exist, I'd be okay with the tiny hair range. But in a game that apes Castlevania for exploration and main weapon usage, I'm okay with the range you get. I do agree that only PC seems to be really challenging with needing better control over the pirate abilities. But finding new abilities in RR was a lot of fun and getting them upgraded to do more stuff felt nice. The thing I didn't like about HGH was it seemed like there were twice as many transformations as needed, since each one covered the same niche but was maybe only a bit different. It sucks because I like the set up of a belly dancing genie getting transformation powers, but the fastest game is the one where she gets absolutely none of those powers.

That's due to it being a kikestarter game. They really, REALLY, didn't have a handle on their budgets or their milestones - which lead to inconsistent development where the first few levels (that they were advertising the game on) were fairly well fleshed out - and everything afterward was half-completed shit. They had to shoe-in a bunch of fan-made characters and transformations into levels and story which weren't designed to accommodate them - so many of them ended up being near useless token additions with maybe one or two uses per stage.

Tuki, for example - is useless, was only thrown in as a donation reward for a vorefag named GuNMoUtH/CowNugget.

Is that shit actually in the game?

I have to wonder why devs don't have guards against this kind of shit. It seems really obvious that you're gonna run into problems if you give random people free reign to put certain content in your game just for paying enough.

No. It's just the snake girl, no vore at all.

How does she get her hair into pigtails if she doesn't have arms?

Risky as space Princess aesthetic is pretty much a man's one night stand dream at its finest lmao.

HOLY FUCK
HER BRA IS A SKULL

If you look closely at Mario's hat, there is an M on it

You mean her entire outfit?

Don't you fucking bullshit me, where? All I see is an upside down W.

...

She is just a merchant, dont bully

Her pants are the jaw.

Never noticed that until now. Neato.

Have you not played Pirate's Curse?

Right?

How did you miss that? That's not just edgy pirate decoration. That's literally the skull of Risky's old captain she wears as a trophy. That's why she's out of uniform for the final boss fight against him.

Oh, yeah… spoilers, I guess. Forget you read that.
