Games that were overhyped that bombed miserably

Is there other games that was pushed so far, only to end up failing commercially?
Don't post games because you don't like it, you must show proof that the game failed.

>Actually released 16 years later in 2013

Beyond Good and Evil was probably the first time I ever noticed a game getting hyped up in magazines yet being forgotten about in like a month or two.

I hope the next dragon age bombs, or maybe they will not go full retarded and just make it as bad as the last one.

Getting the obvious ones out of the way

...

Gearbox death fucking when!? I need the homeworld IP free again.

To be fair it's not like they've just sat on the IP

...

I'm drunk enough to not give a fuck about finding an appropriate pic, but Battleborn for sure. Also, who could forget the mac-daddy of failed expectations: Daikatana?

Get cancer Radny

Okay.

Of course.

If released today Daikatana would be considered a masterpiece. That's how shit standards are now.

I heard Daikatana actually sold enough to make a decent profit.

It would have been shit either way.
It'll probably be more infested with the CURRENT YEAR.

I mean a completely unmodified Daikatana as if it was canned, and then unearthed just as it was in 2000.

Does the 1.3 patch turn this into an acceptable game?

I would have been if they did.

*been better

This guy has sperged out hard enough to the point where John does not even associate with him much anymore.

Are you referring to Carmack?

Carmack stopped associating with Romero a longass time ago

Even in Master's of Doom when the two saw each other at an event years later, the two only just nodded to each other.

It's worth noting that Romero follows Carmack on Twitter, Carmack does not follow Romero on Twitter. The two are fairly active too.

The book also stated that neither could see themselves working at the same company again due to how bad the falling out was back in 96.

Carmack also doesn't care about identity politics. (as evidenced by that q/a session where he stated they only hire qualified candidates when a woman asked him about diversity hires). He doesn't really concern himself with people, he only cares about what he's programming.

Epic Mickey 2

I didn't know it had a PC port
Is it good?

If I didn't play the first game, the fact that it is a sequel becomes a hindrance. I look at it and think: "Game 2 looks interesting, but I better play Game 1 first… wait, Game 1 is not on a system I own. Oh well, looks like I'll have to pass on both."

cant you buy wiis dirt cheap now? you could emulate it anyway

They should've just dropped the 2, the game has nothing to do with the predecessor plot-wise anyway.

And even the predecessor was a heavily gimped version of that badass concept-art they put out

They really did botch For Honor's launch. The gear bullshit and not having dedicated servers on launch really killed potential that game had.

They might be able to get some players back now that they're adding it but the damage has already been done.

People even demanded since the closed beta for the game to have dedicated servers. Ubisoft refused to listen and was adamant about not doing it, especially with their shills that peer-to-peer was perfectly fine.

Seriously, they spent more time advertising it than actually working on the game.
And I'm not reinstalling it because Ubisoft keeps doing this stupid bullshit with every new release.

The horror!

bomp

peer to peer is cancer man.

He's a spic, Trump is his natural enemy because he wants to catapult his mongrel ass back where it belongs. Also, it's no surprise Romero is a bitch, the hair gives it away. Pity on his Marine step-father that tried to make something out of the genetic toilet he ended up raising.

I'm a bit surprised developers would go peer-to-peer these days. There is already infrastructure in the form of game server hosting services. All that is needed is a couple servers to keep track of the server list. Plenty of hosting available for that.

ha ha ha ha ha
Ha hahahahahaha
Hahaaaaai bought it

You gave them money, that's the exact moment they stopped giving a shit about your opinion.

But at the time of the game's release wiis were a lot more expensive.

What the fuck, this had multiplayer? It was a really boring and generic shooter anyway.

What about Dead Space 3? I've never heard anything good about it

But then they'd need to spend money making an actually functional product, and the filthy goyim could keep playing the game for more than a year, even after the sequel comes out!

...

Every Dragon Age past the first has been a failure actually. I'm surprised they're still making them.

oh this thing hahaha

How the fuck did Horizon Zero Dawn get aolid 10s across the board and sold over 3 and 1/2 million copies when it was the biggest piece of shit I've played in ten years - it was so bad I actually would rather have played Andromeda again.

Even if it did its damage to John Romero's name was fucking irreparable. To this day, seventeen years later, people still bring the other up when one of them is mentioned.

Holy shit people born in 2000 will be entering college next year

Remember this?

yeah and it was pretty good, you could fly around with a bunch of other faggots and ground pound people. too bad it was laggy and the devs in their infinite wisdom decided to split up the multiplayer by DLC. so if you actually bothered to buy any of the DLC maps you had no one to play with. If you didn't buy any DLC though you would eventually get bored of the same 4 maps.

Horde mode was also fun.

What was this?
In any case, i saw two gamesin my last week working in a vidya store, they were marketed and there was flyers with the usual "PreOrder now!" shit.
One was called Fortnite and the othe Agents of Mayhem, and I can almost 100% guarantee they will both bomb.

My friend convinced me to preorder this and both Borderlands.

I don't play with him anymore.

a scam.

you know i made a thread about that and even I forgot about it immediately.

I like her thicker

I haven only seen gameplay footage and it looked like a stinking pile of absolute dogshit. You can tell it's a generic piece of shit with shitty combat, shitty mechanics, abysmal voice acting and characters. And yet, it's popular and got good reviews. What the fuck?

On a side note, there's a game coming out called Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. It's not even out yet, and I'm absolutely sure it's garbage.

What the fuck is wrong with their faces? I mean the one from horizon and from this. They all look like a cat taking a shit in the middle of the desert.

I think he could have bounced back just fine, if only he had made even one solid PC game afterwards… not some slow-paced puzzle for friggin' Pocket PC and N-Gage! Seriously, who had those systems?

Oops, my mistake: it seems this game didn't come to the N-Gage. But Romero's company ported Red Faction to the N-Gage, I misread things and mixed it up.

Really, what the fuck are they aiming with this.

thicc tumblr gamer crowd

all of 50 people or something?

Games are deemed successes before they even come out. The industry is completely full of its own shit, a game doesn't even have to be good anymore, it could be a still photoshoped image and morons would still pre-order if the games journos told them to.

After the monumentally expensive fuckup Daikatana was I don't anyone wanted to have anything with Romero or his ego.

Holy fuck we ha threads about this garbagr, people here actually bought it.

I guarantee you 100% of the people here who bought it did so because of the Shadman porn.

The non-sluttified thiccer version looks much better than the un-tumblrized.

Well, Holla Forums has terrible taste.

Don't trust 90% of the shit you hear on Holla Forums seriously.

We have shills, you best start believing user.

Yeah look:

Im responding to this bit assuming that what he si saying is true, faglord.

>buy this piece of shit game from (((Ubisoft)))
Keep on kvetching.

I literally just called those who admitted to playing the game on Holla Forums to have their opinions discarded. Explain how this is shilling For Honor/Ubisoft.

Oh how quickly people forgot about the poster child for TOO LARGE TO FAIL. No other game released since surpassed it in that regard.

...

Not released, didn't bomb yet.

You and I both know the inevitable shitstorm will put TORtanic to shame.

...

(checked)

Well, when that time comes, sure, but for now, TORtanic still holds the first place.

...

No, see, it's a sound investment. He'll be able to sell the ship jpegs for ten times the original price when SC delivers. In the meantime he'll use his overpowered, p2w jpegs to bully everyone else and get revenge for high school.

What has not been released can not (by definition) fail; therefore, this game will not fail.

I really hope the alimony rumor is true because that would just be the best cherry on top of this shit sundae.

Holy shit when did that happen?

Battleborn was never hyped though. It couldn't even generate hype.
On the subject of Gearbox though Borderlands 2 was pretty hyped and while it sold well and what I'm pretty sure it did end up damaging the brand that not even a fairly decent entry like the presequal could fix.

This took too long to be mentioned.

...

I still can't believe anyone fell for this or that Brink game. People say 2007 was a bad year but I truly believe 2011 was much worse.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Island_2
It's in development hell, so I would say it less died and more is in a coma.

Battleborn had a shitton of marketing and ads. Gearbox spent a legitimate amount on marketing for it. Compared to Lawbreakers which just dropped out of nowhere and had nothing. It's a big reason why the game still gets brought up because Gearbox was convinced it was going to be huge

Dead island did make money iirc. It's moreso seen as a game that was more popular than it should have been entirely due to its trailer.

Shit you are right it did make money.

It was a decent success. The misleading trailer is much to blame for that.

The more recent games have not been so kindly-received however (likely due to the first game's lukewarm reception), and it looks like the sequel is in development Hell to either become vaporware or just be cancelled.

Shit what was that game about the 4 players fighting a large monster that was kind of a flop that almost regained steam due to porn of the mosters but the publishers found out about it and pulled the plug on marketing it to… was it still 4chan back then or was this after the rise of Holla Forums?

MP was really fun too. I would make games with my friends but when a new map rotated in, if it was a DLC map, those who didn't have it GOT KICKED!

You could be playing a 8v8 or whatever and when the next map starts, it's a 1v1.

It was after Gamergate.

The game you're thinking of is Evolve.

Yes that is the game thank you.

This one still hurts.

Carmack doesn't seem to give a fuck about politics, identity or otherwise, but I can totally see him as a Ted Cruz guy that reluctantly voted for Trump but is smart enough to never admit it to anyone.

Bioware Montreal, the studio that make ME:A got shut down

...

I heard about that, but when was the DLC canceled? For fucks sake did they somehow not put the DLC on the disc or something?

Damn those dudes look cool and down to earth
Like real people that just want to create and play games, shame we dont get devs like this anymore, just corporate drones waiting from paycheck to paycheck giving 0 fuck about the turd of the game they produce

Who gonna make the DLC now that the dev no longer exist?

steamspy.com/app/314710
On top of that, they had $4m donated to them so it technically wasn't 100% money from publishers. Unless the publishers handed them $5.5m+ technically the game was a success financially.

Why did they fall out?

Obligatory post.

It explains that Romero was spending very little time actually developing Quake and spending most of his time with fans and playing Doom deathmatches in the office. Carmack was really fed up with him not being focused on what was going to be his magnum opus of a game engine.

This was one of the reasons why Quake went from a hack and slash game into a first person shooter because they had to scale the game back to actually ship something. Apparently Romero did work his ass off in the final few months of the game (and did design a lot of levels for it) but this didn't save him from being asked to resign by the rest of the company. This was similar to how Tom Hall (one of the other founders of the company) was asked to resign during Doom's development because nobody liked his ideas. Romero would later create Ion Storm with Tom Hall.

Revenge, user. Learn it well.

...

...

...

Usually the DLC is made in advanced.

Tom Hall's ideas were kind of gay though. He wanted them to make both Doom and Quake in the same vein as Commander Keen and keep the games kid friendly, and when Quake was rolling around to focus more on the storytelling.

I personally don't disagree with his wish to put emphasis on the story (fuck the kiddie shit), especially considering Ultima Underworld had been an inspiration for Carmack, but id was a poor fit to make an RPG or simulator that focused on storytelling.

But I thought they COULDN'T actually work on Quake for a long time because Carmack was so late on delivering the damn engine.

Nah, while Carmack was cranking out the engine they were busy making expansion packs, and Romero was keen on helping Raven use the id engines to make their own games.

The problem is that for the longest time the team had no idea where to go with Quake, the development cycle was a mess and you can see this in the game with all the various settings/enemy types that obviously clash with each other.

...

It didn't bomb commercially but holy fuck was Rome 2 a piece of shit. I guarantee that at least 90% of the budget went only to marketing for the game.

i still remember that release
i was hyped as shit for it
came out as a broken and unstable mess
i waited for their patches to fix the game but by the time they were done with them so was i with the game

This is my pick. My local game store even had a notice by the register instructing employees not to accept used copies of Brink. I've never seen that before or since.

probably over 100% if you factor interest.

And there won't be a game. Checkmate goyim.

If a boat is being built to cross the ocean and its never finished being built it still failed to cross the ocean just like a ship that made it a short distance from harbor only to capsize.

And that's where the analogy fails.

Duke Forever was never going to be good. It spent 16 fucking years in development because it was obvious garbage but nobody involved had any idea how to fix it. They should have called it quits after Duke 3D because it just can't be topped.

Its a good thing none of Bethesda's games were overhyped shit. Their games are totally deserving of your hard earned money. I bought four copies myself and I'm going to buy four more copies when the HD remaster is released and you should too.

It came out on 2011

Holy shit my heroes

Duke Forever could have been good if George Broussard wasn't obsessed with copying something from whatever game he was playing at the time and having "da best grafics" because Duke3D was dated compared to Quake when it came out.

EA and BioWare are trying to quietly sweep the ME:A debacle under the rug. Maybe they learned a lesson from the reaction they got when they tried to sell ME3 on the shitstorm about the endings

DN:F is a pristine example of why a design plan is so important.

i will my fellow \vee\ user
fallout 4 is the best game ever made
i cant wait to play it on an ATM

Star Citizen

It's too bad somethingawful will more than likely have the paywall up when this game comes out to try and hide their tears.

Point of correction, user: Junction Point was going to be shut down either way.

t. ex-Junction Point dev

Disney made us make the game in under a year and we crunched for eight months. It never had a chance.

(checked)
When will thEAy learn!

I loved Brink. The setting was such a breath of fresh air in the brown-n-bloom FPS scene at the time.

Want to know what killed it? Bethesda/Zenimax made Splash Damage ship what was basically an alpha version of the game and told them to go fuck themselves.

Any proof? If you have any I bet people would love to ask a bunch of questions

From JP? I've got a pair of those Oswald ears from E3 in the closet, but honestly user, I can't imagine why anyone would lie about having worked on such a tiny, niche title.

Ask away and I'll answer as much as I can.

That's the thing. A dedicated server is easier to implement. It would take less development time to get right, and there would be less risk of failure. Let players host their own servers. It is incredibly easy for them to do that today.

proof?

How much of a faggot was Spector on a day-to-day basis?

Warren's actually a pretty good guy, has a memory like an elephant, and is actually some sort of genius. That said, he has two main flaws:

1. He's too trusting and is easily manipulated.

2. He's a massive SJW.

The biggest problem we had with Warren on EM2 was that we had some real cunts in the studio who were malicious scumbags, but they played Warren like a goddamn fiddle and were able to spread their cancer unabated.

It's much harder to tie people to an unlock system that you can then jew them for boosting through if you let any random fucker host a server.

Any fun/interesting stories fag?

Interesting stories.. hmm.. here's a brief list of some of the stupid shit that happened at the studio in the two years I was there:

A cabal of ex-EX managers who had friends in HR fired a bunch of people they didn't like, we got sued, and Disney settled out of court. Disney then told us that if anyone else got fired for bullshit reasons, they'd shut the studio down. So when they wanted to fire someone they didn't like, they just made their life a living hell Konami style until they quit. Or if they didn't quit, they'd just pay them a huge cash bonus to quit, and most people took it.

We had our art director get so drunk at an E3 that he tried to sing with a lobby musician at a high priced hotel. Security almost bounced him until one of the producers pulled him away.

We spent so much money on crunch dinners that Disney's finance office called us and said 'How the fuck are you spending $10k every two weeks on food?' But they never stopped the dinners.

Oh, here's a good one. The studio director was such an incompetent sack of shit that he had two nervous breakdowns during EM2's development and was out of the office for like three months.

All sorts of stupid shit happened. One of the main reasons the game failed is because John Pleasance, the then-head of Disney Interactive, hated consoled and wanted to go straight to mobile; so he always had it in for the studio. He also promised Bob Iger that he'd get our division profitable since we were the only part of Disney that actually lost money, but failed to deliver. I think he got canned.

Shit was bananas, user.

2007 was a great year, Orange Box, Supreme Commander, World In Conflict, Quake Wars, Crysis, Witcher, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Battlestations Midway and a shitton more with much more variety
But it was the beginning of the end, everything after it was really bad and 2008-2012 with few exceptions had fuckall in comparison to years past.
The tech boom of that period bringing shittons of normalfags to the hobby and the financial crisis at the same time razing smaller/medium publishers/devs and weakening bigger ones that went full kike on the fresh unwashed masses just brought most of the trends you see today.

From this small period of time we got:
-Map DLC
-Preorder DLC
-Progression systems on every game
-Ubisoft Open World
-Microtransactions
-Early Access
-Paid mods
-Paid skins
-Console FPS/ASSFAGGOTS/Survival games becoming the mainstream
-Twitch
-Indie pixel shit
-Multiplayer focus
-Mobileshit
-Shit tier consoles which are trying to become PCs
-Steam becoming mainstream

All this in 10 years
Now compare that with 1977-1987-1997-2007 which all had their issues but never anti consumer kikery of this size.

Well fuck, what are you doing nowadays? I hear a lot of devs just end up giving up on vidya development and going into something less soul crushing/health damaging.

good graphics were a mistake

At a decent studio this time, but can't say which one since I work there.

But if/when I quit/get fired, I'm leaving gaming. It's a stressful shitshow with middling pay, but you get a chance to work with a lot of interesting people.

Fair enough, at least it got better.
Yeh, I can see why so many jump at the chance to risk it all working for themselves as indie devs.

Indie's the only place you see actual innovation take place. AAA games have to be safe and appeal to the masses to recoup their massive dev costs, so they can't take risks. We're not in the heady days of the PS1 anymore where you'd see crazy shit like LSD Dream Simulator or Jumping Flash; now everything has to be market-researched. Ever wonder why the biggest up and coming games are indie titles like Rocket League, PubG, and that shit while major games like CoD, For Honor, and other games are falling on their asses? Yeah.

It's just a shame so many indie devs take the lazy nostalgia 2D platformer route, I'd love to see more indie fuckers take on FPS as a genre.

Strafe
Immortal Redneck
Heres the flavour of the month though.
Looks alright

Duke Nukem Forever 2013 is a mod for DN3D that recreates DNF as seen on the 1998 trailer. It's actually much more enjoyable than the official 2011 turd.

Tools are to the point where an indie dev only has to build out the levels and do the gameplay coding. It is possible to do an open world game too as long as you limit map size and utilize zones.

I'm guessing not a prequel or sequel to Dusk-12.

FPS should be fairly easy though, it's arguably where most work has been done on streamlining the development process and improving AI so all the research is done for you.

Gamdev is really hard user; harder than most anons will ever realize. 2D platformers are fairly easy to make and don't require nearly as much programming as something like an FPS.

Path of least resistance and all that.

this is wrong, and you're not going to provide a link to open world tools you're talking about

What's the view inside the industry about AA productions? Any chance we'll ever get them back?

Also:
Procedural generation flies in the face of good FPS design. Strafe does it fairly well I suppose. This Dusk game looks more interesting.

The problem is that's somewhat of a false economy since 2D platformers are a much more competitive market. You trade less development time for more time spent marketing/coming up with unique gimmicks if you don't want to get lost in the sea of shit. Non-'roguelite' indie FPS is fairly unheard of.

You already have them, user. A lot of stuff like Talos Principle or the stuff Eugen makes could qualify.

...

Strafe is shit, I was giving out an example of an indie FPS, not a bad one.
Immortal Redneck is actually good though, or so I hear.

We're already there, few games, but is getting bigger.
More variety than we had back in 2008-2012, thats for sure.

-Everything by Focus Home
-Insurgency devs
-Tripjew
-Dirt Rally/Codemasters
-Parajew
-Stardock

Western of course, if it was Nips I'd be here all day.

I've only looked briefly at both, I just want an indie fps done straight without any of this roguelite twist nonsense.

The solution is just pirate it

-Devil Daggers
-Receiver
-Superhot

cryengine 3 maybe? Just a guess but it seems fairly robust and capable of MMO-scale shit.

I'm not saying the tools are free and everything is in one package, but we are at that point now. You could do something up to the map size of Witcher 2 maps and many older games. Of course, you have to solve the content problem, which is the most expensive part. Most developers are focused on building what they want rather than building something that fits within currently available tech.

Not to sound like I'm picking holes but:
Survive in an area and earn high score, reminds me of Killing Floor in that it feels like someone made the survival mode for a fun game and forgot to provide me with the actual campaign. Good gameplay, no real game to go along with it.
I enjoyed it but it had basically no content. I'd love to try a larger game with the same mechanics though. Also it's another game with procedural generation and permadeath though at least it fits with the gameplay there.
Haven't played the full game, just the original release. I suspect it does not scale up well into a game and just feels like a single gimmick stretched thin but I'm willing to be proven wrong. I have heard that it's another game which is almost totally reliant on challenge modes with a tiny campaign (at least they included one).

I realise it takes time to make actual storyline content but I get sick of playing survival modes pretty quickly and rougelite nonsense bores me once I work out how to game the generation stuff (normally 3 hours at most).

There is a design aspect of creating open world games. It can be done with 1km maps. The embedded video explains the tricks and approaches.

Jesus H. Christ. Shekel Citizen is breaking up families.

tfw i put money into it

user, that kind of idiot would spend his cash on something equally retarded if SC wasn't available.

Do not pity them.

hitman absolution

looking back on the old trailer its evident the game was feature creeper into fucking oblivion, still a damn shame though

Don't forget that they used the hype of Duke Nukem Forever to bring attention to several other games they released. It kept them going for quite a long time.

GBC version is alright

It only failed because it was literally too good for it's time and technology, and if it was made the way it was meant to be it would have been a 11/10 game of the year all years.

...

Man, those guys look like total fucking bros.

What happened to gamedev? Hipsters, that's what.

Was TOR really a bigger blunder than ME3?
Sure it was bad but not ME3 bad

Also ME2 was the worst blunder of 2009

This looks like some RPGMaker shit. John Romero went from Doom to this? WTF?

Lets not forget that the most damning thing about the general atmosphere of the game is that Duke is supposed to be in a serious game, but HE is the only odd-element-out, being the action hero who spouts oneliners. Maybe an occasional visual gag in out of the way areas, but other than that, the world is serious.

DNF ended up with Duke being the straightman to an insanely stupidly meme filled world. The dream section was fine because it was in Duke's head, but beyond that it should have been played straight.

...

If he's that retarded, it's for the best he be separated from his children.

Lovely Planet
:^)

Aye, I saw how the original vision of the first game was dialed back more and more.

The final game is buggy and through the cracks, I can see where it was gonna be incredible, but it just got progressively cut back more and more.

From what I remember, Tom Hall's vision of what Doom should have been was more or less realized in the original Rise of the Triad, though.

No.

and that's how a small update fucked what was a fun-once-in-a-while game

Why not?
Shitposting aside have you played Powerslave?

...

Yeah, the ouya was pretty hyped and it bombed hard. Yeah, I know it's not a game, but it still choked on shit.

Never heard that name from 1996 to 2013.
Did you make that up, or was it only for faggots.

Should also mention that it was mostly done, twice. Went through numerous engines.
People were most excited in 2001 when a video preview consisting of scripted sequences was released.

Daikatana was soon overshadowed in development length by duke.

The frogs in the first hub were unforgivable though.

ahhh its ok

The Mosquitoes were a bigger offender. Outside of the poor impression the first chapter leaves Daikatana as a whole is just… odd.

Can you give examples of the clashes of settings and enemy types.

The game certainly didn't feel contiguous or complete at the time of release, the best part was the levels - but far more important was the engine, it changed games forever because of the level of modification/conversion that happened afterwards.
Most people won't realise that pretty much every 3d shooter stems from this one in one way or another.

obligatory

It had some good parts, the Egypt type area, with the predator 2 disk weapon.
Attempt at AI buddies, which became frustrating near the end especially.
It wasn't revolutionary, it was alright coop.
No idea why they made the first section like they did.
Also, every single enemy jnsta-gibbing, that was awful.

shills tried

You should really go read "Masters of Doom", it's a pretty good book about the history of id, the various personas that made it what it was and how Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake came to be.

That being said, after Doom 2 the team was somewhat confused as to what direction their new game should take, one side arguing they should keep releasing what Tom Hall called "raw shooters", while another wanted to make something more in line with Ultima Underworld with a heavier focus on storytelling, RPG elements and simulation. Then there was disagreement on what the setting should be, medieval horror, Lovecraftian themes or a Doom styled futuristic scenario. It's why the whole game is a jumble of themes and ideas, at one point they basically said Fuck it!, cobbled together all the assets and made a game out of them.

The real problem is that the development of Quake widened the fault lines within the team to the point it fell apart. Romero, spic bitch that he is, was also the perfect counter for Carmack's autism and unflinching pursuit of a puritan sanic experience.

id can be safely called the creators of the FPS genre and modern graphics, they are true pioneers.

Also, I forgot to mention, "Masters of Doom" also follows Romero after he left id and details why Daikatana became the clusterfuck it was.

Accurate.

Funny how the developers seemed to have no idea what made duke good.
Either that or they listened to the misdirected fans on their message board too much.

This entire idea was fucking retarded and you are retarded for thinking Disney would ever let someone make an official dystopia.

Heard of the book, I should read it.
The mix of medieval with futuristic was pretty noticable from the alpha - it didn't make sense at the time.
Overall, the game was fun - but I spent a hundred or a thousand times longer on modifying it.
Led to me becoming semi-professional in about 1999, and then being fucked over completely and dropping out of game development.
Wrong choice in hindsight.

It's definitely an interesting game but I don't think I'll ever forgive the impact it had on the development of Anachronox.
I used to chat with one of the younger developers who worked on Anachronox - he developed the cinematic scripting system - and it sounded like a complete nightmare.

I never played that, only remember the name.
I checked a video, does remind me of daikatana's looks.
How would it have been different?

...

I remember this turd as being the first super-shilled game on cuckchan Holla Forums.

So you weren't around for the first Borderlands I take it?

Ups, that one got shilled hard too. But I remember Brink more because the shill bots always used the exact same picture to shill it.

At least they learned from their mistakes in dying light. The game is nothing spectacular, but it definitely is a solid zombie dropkicking simulator.

Plenty of time that was supposed to have been spent on fixing bugs + cleaning implementation was spent on helping the Daikatana guys fix the horrible systems they had in place.

Once you start digging in the Anachronox data files you get a fair idea of just how much content was held back (some in a near finished state), not just assets either - there's plenty of (useful) scripting functions that have a declaration but no implementation. Hell, they even had a completely new mesh format ready that used skeletal animation.

What signifies these modern games is that the blunders and disasters surrounding them are more fun and entertaining than the games themselves most of the time.

Nice bait

I wish "The Last of Us" was one of those, overhyped as fuck, but sadly sold well enough to have a sequel.
Get ready for more "diversity" and faggotry, brought to you by a literal kike from Assrael.

We already had dykes in the first game though, faggots as well. Then again, I'll never cease to be amazed with post-apoc stories filled with niggers, spics and homosexuals. They are minorities in the USA and 99% of them live in big cities, which are basically death traps in the case of any sort of civilization ending scenario. The vast, vast, vast majority of them will die within the first week, the rest likely dying at the hands of survivor communities that will not want them near them.

He's commiefornian atheist Jew, nobody wants him back in Israel.

I honestly doubt it managed to make it's money back on sales alone and mostly stayed in the black because of bookcooking fuckery.

90% of the AAA games of these last 2 generations enter in this category, and at least 60% of the indie games too.
I think it's easier to count the ones that didn't failed miserably.

Daily reminder (((they))) will never stop being mad about it.

They still haven't gotten over it.

Obvious shill is obvious.

Ah yes I was going to post this, my friends especially hyped the shit out of this.

Hey ex-Junction Point devAnon, are you still here in this thread? If your still here, were you one of the guys that was working or in any way involved in a lost pitch game known as Project Goliath?

Carmack is a sociopathic genius. Be glad he gets off on programming and not turning people into luggage.

He probably thought of the smell.

dat tan line

Played the demo, wasn't interested. good to know where I throw my shekels really does make an impact

You could've bought a million copies and it probably wouldn't have made a difference, no joke.

Fuck off back to reddit Cham. I know it's you.

My gf loves Cisquisition. She thinks the homo shit is weird but doesn't find it as atrocious as I do. The game seems obviously biased in content for playing a female character

I think it's time to find a new girlfriend.

Honestly I'm just happy she'll touch video games. It's a lot of fun when we co-op

it was never the graphics, it were the people lending the money to the studios to make the game.

I think it would stand within reason to recommend user some good vidya with female protagonists that don't have a steep learning curve or high barrier to entry

Make her have better standards you fuck. Bitches love Timesplitters 3.

Tomb Raider: Legends?

Holy shit, Carmack looks fucking jacked in the second picture. Completely contrasts to his appearance otherwise.

Yeah because insulting the fans, who are the reason the name of your Reboot means anything is a great way to boost sales.

all that programming really worked his forearms.

Looks like the typical snarl of an SJW because they're filthy mouthbreathers with malformed jaws and poor posture.

Fuck that face pisses me off! You're right!

Gotta pander to the audience you want. Leftists revel in their own filth, so games have to feature similar characters.

A man can dream, right

Gamers are dead and they don't have to be anyone's audience anymore (^:

Being a journalist (or whatever those fat failures call themselves today) should be punishable by death.

Dodger is so annoying

Kojima never insulted his fans. What does these fucks are talking about?

Yes.

Let me guess, Ashley Burch is going to voice that one.

Fortunately she's still on strike, and still nobody gives a fuck.

I'd say Rage but it sold well because of iD and Carmack. Nostalgia is a disease. At least he's gone.

They think changing Snake to Raiden in MGS2 was done to piss people off, even though Kojima stated that he added Raiden because he wanted to appeal to women by making a character they may like. And since that didn't work as well as he thought it would, it was most likely the reason why he made Raiden a ninja cyborg in MGS4 to appeal to people that didn't like him being effeminate in MGS2.

The bad thing is that they didn't insult just the fans, but the previous developers as well.
Glad that turd was a flop and its retarded fans will never have a sequel, fuck them, i'll enjoy their salt though.

Oh that's why.

Cold steel 3
Tio voiced by Burch

I thought Kojima made Raiden to make Snake look even more epic, but I've heard the woman wanting an efeminated snake too.

MEGATEXTURES

Raiden was key to the MGS2 narrative, that unfortunately audience didn't understand.

Raiden was always a godawful character, no matter the "development" he went through. Bait and switching Snake for that tranny in MGS2 is one of the shittiest moves in vidya.

Yeah, what a fucking joy, we get to see the AI playing a superior character while we're stuck with bitchboi and his bitch problems.

I guess most people didn't even play the game and heard the people feeling trolled for playing Raiden.

Ey, I just said he had an idea and it was somewhat artistic, never said it was good.

Kojima is kinda wild with his ideas if he isn't under control, like the time he wanted to make a zombie 'game' where you just pay to see your character survive, then if it is killed you can pay once again to see him become a zombie and kill others.

Are we sure he's not Jewish? They tend to suffer from psychological problems due to all the inbreeding.

Forgot to say it was an online game

Yup, he's got Jewish blood.

Well, there's always that one guy who shits his pants constantly in MGS as well as the obligatory pissing scene. Maybe you're on to something.

It was the best FPS made that year. It was just that some of you faggots didn't realise that the game-journalists really started their shilling around this time and killing the holy cow of the Duke was important to turn the industry into what it is today, a barren landscape of fun and giggles but filled with "serious" games about oppressed minorities and shit.

DNF isn't a bad game, never was.

Turns out thats just more advanced variant of Virtual Textures talked about(invented?) way back in 1999, by Chris Hall of 3DLabs Inc

I don't understand why this board has always been so against games that require mods to be "playable". It's perfectly clear that even singular modders and hackers/crackers are superior at making games than entire professional companies. So if a studio makes a shitty, unfinished, bare-bones game that is easily modded, and then the fan community polishes it into an amazing game, what's the fucking problem? How is this a bad thing compared to a studio releasing a "complete" game that is still going to be garbage, but is locked up so tight that modding is practically impossible?

Because no one has a problem with the modability itself, it's the fact that people will excuse problems with the game simply because it can be modded.

SimCity 2013 is actually alright when played with bunch of friends, specifically as a multiplayer game, because its metagame aspects are well thought-out (I tried it out during the Origin Access free weekend), but its actual mechanics for individual players are really weak. I think they should've focused more on the actual mechanics, but I don't get the complaints about it being online-only multiplayer-focused game, because that is the only really fun aspect of it.

Rage is a good half of a game. It's clearly incomplete.

Let's use this thought-process but with food. If you buy let's say a hamburger-meal but it stinks, it's not done well and taste poorly. However you take the meal home anyway since you bought it and continues to work on the meal until it tastes better than when you bought it, are you still going to buy a hamburger-meal from that restuarant again?

The developers are the ones selling a product. Hence why they should be accountable if they release a faulty product.

I REALLY hate journos.

Oh man I had completely forgotten about that

He pretty much gave up on AAA games after Daikatana. Even his most recent games are on par with mobile and game jam shit.

It didn't fail, it's in the top 5 most profitable f2p MMOs

Wasn't that the game that was about to become something like what is now overwatch, but then got turned into an edgy brown shooter?

I doubt it, it was pretty edgy. You had the military constantly getting high with some yellow stuff and in the end you join up with the rebels.
I just remember it was supposed to be sort of a system seller for the early PS3 lifecycle but it got fucking dumpstered by almost every gaming media outlet out there.

it's also hell even on the best builds though

You're thinking of Overstrike which got turned into FUSE. HAZE is the game where you go around killing "terrorists" or some shit while your powersuit injects roids directly into your brain, complete with squadmates reacting to it as if they just chugged a whole 2 liter of Mountain Dew™

The game your thinking of is Overstrike which became Fuse.

Ah fuck, that's the one.
they're named after a 4 letter noun, fug

...

I thought he did it to subvert the fans expectations. Not only do you not play as the titular snake you've been playing as for the 4 previous games, but he's hyped up into legendary status, culminating in you two meeting at the end with snake muscular and jacked in his sneaking suit, and you naked and freezing. He's even got infinite ammo , he's that bad ass. Then by the end you've become his equal but by that point Raiden throws off the shackles of the "player" the dog tags and becomes his own man after his character development.

Johnny. He marries meryl.

Anons usually argue that mods can't save a game, not that modding is shit. As an example most anons like to mod New Vegas, as it's a good game, and the mods improve on it. Same for Morrowind. But a lot of anons are very critical of modding Skyrim, as it's considered a shit game and the mods can't save it, despite modding being the largest it's ever been in Skyrim for Bethesda connected titles at least, i'm not certain about in the history of modding as a whole

Probably in reference to this.

The game from 1996? Nope.

waifu of the week tier trap

The judo and lifting helped too

That's completely wrong, because *I* am not the modder. It requires no work from me. It's more like I go to a restaurant where the head chef sucks at his job and puts out mediocre food, but then one of the assistant waiters improves it to absolutely delicious when the chef isn't looking, and then takes it out to me. Oh sure, the chef is the one that gets the big paycheck and the accolades and his picture in food magazines or whatever, which isn't really fair, but as the consumer getting delicious food, I don't care.

The problem, here, is that you THINK that complaining about it to the chef is actually going to fucking change anything. You think the chef is going to improve. He is NOT. The only choice you have is whether or not he locks the door to the kitchen, preventing that kind waiter from making the food better.

Games are going to be shit because the developers are shit. All your "you guys should be accountable!" bitching isn't going to change anything. Haven't you learned that by now?

I kinda liked Dark Rift.
