It's the most incredible time for the year! August is here, and you know what that means: Comic Market 92! Doujinshi, animation, hobbyist creations, cosplay and most importantly: video games.
If you don't know, Comic Market, or Comiket is a bi-yearly convention in Japan where creators of all kinds show off and sell their latest works. It's a time of year everyone should anticipate, but the greatest thing is of course, the video games. Independent creators and teams (called circles) show up with all kinds of awesome PC games.
That last part might take you by surprise, but PC gaming is as big in Japan as it is in the West, and the independents over there put everyone else to shame with what they produce. Edelweiss, a more prominent circle that has developed games like Astebreed and Fairy Bloom Freesia and the upcoming Sakuna of Rice and Ruin takes submissions for all the games that will be shown off at comiket. They compile the trailers into a single video and have an easy to follow Index of the games so you can find exactly what you're looking for and who is making it. You can find that here: edelweiss.skr.jp/info/c92pv/index.html
Take a look and who knows, you might just find a number of amazing games you never would have known about before!
one of the games I'm most excited for had its third premiere for the upcoming Western release, Sakuna. The game is a combination of high skill character action combat on a 2D plane mixed with rhythmic farming and preparation of harvested rice.
Ryan Jackson
Oh god I can't wait until the fucking olympics so all this culture is subverted.
Kevin Kelly
the great news is the Japanese are privy to the JQ, so this wonderful expression of their people is never corrupted by the touch of the 公
Ryder Cook
This one looks pretty tight.
Tyler Adams
I imagine/hope everything will just stay on the "down low" that year. Will be a little disappointing, but whatever. Who even wants to host the olympics anyway? Doesn't it put a complete drain on the finances on the country? I get the country will get more tourist and be put in the spotlight, but is it really worth it anymore?
Mason Murphy
That looks fun, reminds me of a mix of Muramasa: The demon blade, and harvest moon. Was hoping for a cute loli girl, wasn't dissapointed Just need to polish it up a bit.
Christopher Allen
similar, but with a higher degree of complexity to the combat where surrounding enemies and the environment are used directly as weapons.
Ayden Diaz
if you like that, check out the assault suit leynos series of games, this looks similar but with more of a platforming focus.
Nolan Wood
ComiKet really is a magical time of year. A new batch of porn doujinshi, hot cosplayers and neat indie games and music. I'm interested in seeing SkyLens. Made by the Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae dude.
Yeah, I remember seeing this a little while back. Pretty cool it's getting an english release; Edelweiss is legit. Doesn't happen much at all. Makes sense; only the biggest indie devs get overseas interest and only very few of those fork out for an english release.
Jordan Gray
I've been interested in SkyLens for a while, it looks like Zenith Blue has improved it dramatically since its debut.

It's only a financial drain if you're a completely new country in terms of hosting such events; see Brazil holding the FIFA cup and building however many new stadiums and hotels in a short time.
USA, France, Germany, Australia, UK etc have the facilities to host it, and should stay there. Japan should be fine, as they have lots of stadiums and you can easily transport atheletes to stadiums in different cities with the Shinkansen.
Luis Myers
Stadiums are not what everyone is worried about here…
Adrian Nelson
I was talking about the financial cost to prepare for the games. As for other """infuences""", I don't see how they'd affect them any more than normal.
Nicholas Peterson
You really underestimate what kind of damage floods of endless "progressive" tourists and journos can do with a little push from (((them)))
Isaac Phillips
I thought last years comiket was kind of weak. I hope it's better this year
Hudson Nguyen
Last years had more giant robot games and action base games. This year seems more VNs and rhythm games. Also, there seems to be a few more "this was totally not a Touhou character before, see, its a Blue shrine maiden, and a hood that looks like rabbit ears." this year too. Paper Mario Touhou edition staring Kokoro looks fun though.
Camden Rogers
Like always everything looks pretty amatuerish while simultaneously looking like the most fun shit ever. So the whole reason why games like Ace of Seafood, Gigantic Army and Astebreed are easily obtainable(compared to these games) are the likes of Edelweiss?
But I wanna learn Japanese
Luis Jackson
I do not think edelweiss had a role in these games being broadly distributed, a member of edelweiss, nal, simply takes submitted trailers and compiles them into a convenient index for people to find them at comiket or otherwise more about the game/circle/works.
I believe games like ace of seafood were published to westeners because of the team behind them wishing to do so. I think a good way to get more games released here would be to contact the creators and ask them about an english or international release on steam for example.
Jackson Brown
Why does everything that looks nifty have to involve kikes
Hunter Lopez
I see. Sakuna still looks pretty damn great and I still have no idea how or when it was shown at E3, and there's this 3D platformer called Link which really looks like it's going to be a hell of a thing. Also like the earlier user mentioned Robotron looks pretty fucking good too. Assuming any of these games aren't published in the west, how would I get my hands on them?
David Allen
oh fuck comiket is already out?!
Elijah Jenkins
None of this really catches my eye.
Adam Gomez
Just the finalized attendee trailers. The event is on the 11th, 12th, and 13th
Elijah Cooper
...
Jeremiah Martin
Magical Grills vs 2hu = GOTY
Cameron Price
Also the game that starts at 20:30 looks like hot garbage
Owen Allen
Aw shit, time to write down names and send playism some suggestions on what to pick up again. Any fighting games this year? Last year was a bit lacking in that genre.
Jonathan Evans
See: touhou x magical girls budokai tenkaichi here:
Elijah Mitchell
...
Joshua Walker
I hope Nonuple9 gets translated at some point, it looks interesting.
Jaxon Peterson
Steel Strikers is looking much better than last time I saw it. There's also a ton of shooting games that look decent if not exceptional. Disappointed to see the magic girl vs tanks game using so much goddamn bloom, it's seriously painful to watch.
That looks fun, but this will be GOTY.
Ian Bailey
Shit man, I aint watching that. It's too much. Where's the highlight reel?
Christian Mitchell
Looks alright but where's the GIANT ENEMY CRABS
Christian Thomas
There were a few really nice looking games this year. I'd love to play the new Siter Skain game, rocketron, ActGamez stickman action game which looks like the kind of game inspired by those really old, long black & white .gifs. Link: The Unleashed Nexus RH looks great too, I love the way movement looks, there's a sense of rigidity and dedication to your action and the bosses look really demanding.
Nice to see my thread has gotten a better reception this year than last year! 3 times more posts.
Connor Edwards
I hope we get more of this shit. Normalfags are waking up already by pushing back on leftism so it would not be that hard to get them to push back on the yids in control.
Ryder Watson
Can't fucking wait.
Hudson Evans
I wonder if there will be any made in abyss doujins
Brayden Reyes
Crabs are cool, deal with it
Chase Barnes
...
Ian Foster
There already are
Gavin Hill
Neat, don't believe I've ever heard of it. I had been wondering how so many Jap PC games were getting western releases suddenly.
Jacob Walker
What does comiket have to do with western releases of jap games?
Dylan Kelly
nothing really, I think he misunderstood.
Nathaniel Sanchez
There's gotta be a boss fight in there somewhere. Actually it seems like it would be better as a string of boss fights. I'm hoping you play as a scrappy little crab and work your way up to take on a giant king crab. Like underwater Punch Out!!.
That's more or less what the thread is for, since most folks aren't going to spare 90 minutes to watch it. Rocketron looks amazing. That soulsmith simulation game from 犬と猫 looks right up my alley too, but my nip isn't remotely good enough. Also, despite the poor graphics, Majin Shoujo STG looks mechanically solid and fun to play. I also liked the aesthetic of the 2hu platformer from Null Pointer Works. I can't really get into the VNs. いえのかぎ has really nice art, but I need to study more before I can read any of them.
Samuel Wilson
Oh, more that tidbit about Edelweiss.
Brandon Bell
Bakemogatari is hot garbage, especially the main character. So who even cares if he gets cucked? Anyway, the samples look like he is the one fucking them. And don't shit on Aoi's Illya, her adventures in fucking old men are some of the absolute best in smut. I'm just disappointed Fatal Pulse's offering doesn't seem that great this time around at least from the samples.
Henry Edwards
...
Isaiah Green
(すげぇぇぇぇ)
Ian Edwards
Never watched Bakemonogatari, but, the mindbreak in Tanabe Kyou's shit is top tier regardless of if its NTR or not.
Juan Torres
This guy knows whats up.
Nolan Roberts
Bump
Austin King
It's a shame more anons don't want to talk about the most promising source of original games in the world. These threads always die so young.
Xavier Cruz
I wish Black Maria Overdrive 2 was there. I was also hoping for a new IlluCalab game, but I haven't played "A Magical Highschool Girl" yet, but I should. The custom spell thing seemed very interesting.
Thomas Foster
Alrighty then. I was hoping for more mahou shoujo games this year and there at least seems to be a few of them. There's Touhou vs Magical Girls (>>13167743), which I'll keep an eye on. There's also a game where you run around shooting a fucking tank gun on your arm, but I can't seem to find it again in the vid. There's a couple shmups too, but I've never been too taken by the genre, honestly.
Other than that there's a Nanahira rhythm game (sequel?) which I want to check out called Arisu no Stage, I think.
Jordan Howard
Fucked up the link. I mean this one:
Sebastian Powell
What's new with this one compared to the previous games?
Brody Morales
What doujin games do you guys recommend? I'm pretty new to this stuff, i've only played Touhou.
Kevin Edwards
recettear is popular, try astebreed, cave story, fairy bloom freesia, ace of seafood (ace combat with fish) and look forward to sakuna.
William Edwards
You can segue from there into 2hu doujin games. You could spend at least the next 2 years playing only 2hu doujin games.
Both Labyrinth games are legit. The Megamari games are pretty good. Touhouvania is good. There are a few diablo-clones. Age of Ethanol, Genius of Sappheiros, Mystic Chain, the fightans, 2hu sky arena, etc etc. The skies the limit when it comes to 2hu doujin games. Even play that 2hu-themed text game that's popular on hgg if you want to get your pee-pee hard.
Blake Powell
So from what I've seen, what I'm hoping the most to see sent to the US is
What I could care less about is
Sebastian Thompson
...
Jeremiah Richardson
Thank you kind anons, i'll be checking those out.
Well it's the Times of Israel what do you expect
Jaxon Morales
Didn't the trailer say they're selling it for 100 yen? Seems like a bargain for some simple mech arena shooting. Metal Mosquit looks good, except I can't get over how obscenely large the player ship is and how short the view distance is. Hopefully it's balanced with that in mind or I can imagine it being very frustrating.
Noah Young
Aw shit, Link: The Unleashed Nexus is already on Playism and Steam. It really is the most incredible time of the year.
Cooper Wood
that is the previous version of link: the unleashed nexus. The new version at c92 is the "RH" version.
Anyways, this demo is smaaaaaall, it doesn't even cover hentai and other devs that didn't make a video for submission! There's an entire section just for games this year! Room E7/東, and every day a new list of people are attending!
A couple of them have official English releases, you could just buy those.
John Davis
You disgust me.
Oliver Butler
It's in the post, user. Above Diadra Empty
Henry Richardson
Never seen that acronym used. I'm retarded.
Angel Bennett
Man oh man, I'm gonna have a blast with that platformers list. Anything you recommend first? I've already played Rosenkreuzstilette Thank you a lot.
Michael Perry
megamari is a lot of fun
Xavier Perez
if you liked RKS, try Megamari as the other poster said. Lethal Crisis is -somewhat- like Mega Man Zero, except with flying and lock-on mechanics. It gets pretty intense at points.
If you like action platformers you should also try: Dark Witch 2 Takkoman Kreisreise
Joseph Price
Is robotron actually out?
Owen Fisher
Melty Blood is technically doujin, but that only really matters if you like Tsukihime. If you just want a solid fighting game, you should try it out. Generally a small but dedicated playerbase.
Carter Morales
there's a few of them, some more in-depth than others. The more entry-level ones are the life-sims where you can hug your favourite 2hu, such as EratohoTW, while EratohoK is more akin to a Rance-style strategy game and is more in-depth than the life-sims. There are also other "Era" games based on various franchises and even going into different genres. Some are better quality and than others, some are in development or not.
The life-sim style games can get boring after a while unless you have a goal in mind, such as raising a family with your waifu. Or impregnating the entire population of Gensokyo
