Everyone likes free shit, what are some fun games that were released for free do you know of? Downloadable ones only, so no flash shit.
Someone a while back released a completely enhanced version of the broken Ecco PC port, and vastly improved it by adding options for what soundtrack you want to play, graphical options, and a lot of general enhancements. It's a great way to play the first Ecco game on PC.
This thread is moreso supposed to be Anons bringing up some neat/weird/interesting games that were released for free, and less about pirating. You know, stuff like Yume Nikki.
Bentley White
Nifflas' stuff: Within a Deep Forest, Knytt, Saira. Most of his stuff is freeware, only a couple recent ones cost money.
John Murphy
Check out classics like yume nikki, cave story and elona+, I'm pretty sure there's a infographic floating around somewhere that has more suggestions I also like to browse through itch.io and see what new free demos/games have been released from time to time. Been almost a year since my last dig but a couple of games I'd recommend checking out are drift stage and blue revolver. I think blue revolvers been fully released and drift stage is still in development but their demos provided a good few hours of fun each.
Parker Richardson
There is a difference between free games and deliberately free games. When developer willingly release his shit for free it's something special, and shouldn't be grouped with the rest. That's my belief.
Logan Scott
The Dark Mod, best stealth game you can possibly play for free.
Iji would be my favourite freeware game. Good gameplay, good music, good bossfights, dickton of secrets, and a proper diverging story depending on how lethal you are.
Dorf fortress would be my next top one.
Bentley Long
Man I was hoping to post this retarded post before anyone else to make fun of people that post shit like this but looks like I was too late
John Wood
This one is pretty old, but to extent of my knowledge there isn't a newer one. We should get on that. regardless it should still give an okay jumping off point
Misery had a hard life.
Gavin Diaz
This gets brought up every thread, but have there really been any freeware games released in the last five years worth adding? The doujin scene is practically dead, I think most suggestions would be sourcemods or other total conversion mods.

I guess Starcraft: Brood War is freeware now too. Too bad those motherfuckers at Blizzard broke its compatibility with WinXP and older Windows with the set of patches when they turned it freeware.
Julian Foster
Yume Nikki
Nathan Davis
Shameful, user.
Jace Morales
Gang Garrison. It's TF2V except it's a 2D platformer. Fun game with a bit shitty lag compensation.
Levi Hernandez
I am disappointed in Holla Forums.
Daniel Nguyen
Good, one. I got told.
Justin Fisher
They fucked the combat up. It plays way too fucking fast. Talking about it lead to HURR DURR MODERN COMPUTERS somehow. Just add a fucking combat speed slider jesus.
Benjamin Foster
are you really this stupid?
Jayden Thompson
What? Last I played it was the same speed as the DOS original.
Josiah Martin
I don't really think you can call that a game.
Jaxon Torres
Also, my free game recommendation
Jeremiah Price
Streets of Rage Remake
Robert Bell
Datajack was an excellent free game. Cyberpunk, got classic syndicate-esque augs, cool weapons, and some sweet, sweet music.
I got it through a direct dl but now i see there's some desura shit involved; in any case, it's totally worth any minor hassle for the music alone.
Gavin Wright
Locomalito (spanish dev) mostly makes freeware games, and they're quite good. locomalito.com/
Great Ghosts N Goblins inspired game Like Classicvanias? play this Gradius inspired Shmup Fun arcadey game, wreck shit up with a monster Old School platformer Pretty simple FPS
Kayden Jenkins
Hyper Metroid is also probably the best Super Metroid ROMHack. not a free game, but honorable mentions
Also, Metroid Rogue Dawn for the NES is fucking great.
Also, Mega Maker
Jace Mitchell
What are you talking about OP? All my games are free
Matthew Diaz
My nigga. It's like someone took FEAR and put it in the source engine. Still have to play chapter 2.
Liam Nguyen
what's the point?
Lucas Carter
On that subject, you can add Goldeneye Source to that list
Jack Martinez
sudo apt install warzone2100

Now that the other thread has brough it up: Katawa shoujo May or may not be a a game at all. DwarfFortress is neat as well, just get over the autism it comes with. Planetside 2 used to be great with WWEW. Still miss you fags. Team Fortress 2 exists I guess. Aurora4X is just as autistic as DF, but more of an empire/fleet management game. WoW vanilla on Elysium is a good "brain off" game, where you can just grind with a podcast/audiobook or an actual radio show in the background. You can also feed real books to text to speech software, which sounds ridiculous and shitty, but is a great way to read actually good educational books, like history stuff. SS13 is fucking amazing, it has so much content, and it all varies between codebases, and even between servers. Every role is different and you need to actually learn what you are doing to be good at them. Play on the 8ch serb. Aurora Wager is pretty fun for an hour or two. Load it up, play for a while and keep it installed just so you can play it when you have some real tough RL shit to go through and NEED to shut off completely for a few hours. Drift through the air with nothing on your mind, think about what your next steps should be. Its a good zen game. The original DOOM games a good too, but I guess you already played them to hell and back. Get ZDoom if you haven't. EVE:Online is not really my favorite, and while it is technocally free, you need to pay to access the higher level ships. Techncally speaking you should never fly one of the higher level ships anyways, because you can actually lose them. FreeCities+pregmod is good for fapping. Still in active development too. ICBM is a fine little game that places you in the shoes of an ICBM operator in the cold war. Try it blind, the story is nearvewrecking. Open Generals is a hex based WWII game. I never got into it. Orbiter is a highly autistic spaceship similator. Think of it as KSP, sans the building, but with more realistic ships and a real scale solarsystem THAT is 100% bugfree. Rule the Waves is a free fleet management and battle game. You take the role of a fleet admiral before WWI, and you assign research budgets, build/design ships and eventually take them to battle. Your entire fleet and the future of your nation depends on you. Fucking great for autism. Save the date is a dating game with a twist. Go in blind. Don't be afraid to break the rules you were raised with. SuperDeepThroat (swf related) is a porn (game). Enjoy. AltF4Space is a made by a fag in his basement together with his best totally non-homo fried, who also has a youtube channel. It's neat, but nothing else. Link because it might be too obscure for anyone to find it using google. gamejolt.com/games/altf4space/123611 N is a ninja platformer. Dodge, jump, dodgejump, walljump, dodgewaljump, walldodgejumpwalldodgejump and avoid the spikes/mines/missiles/lasers/blades. Don't break your legs either.
Jace Morales
Spoil it for me: Does anything happen on difficulties higher than Defcon 4? I chose it because it was the default, it seems, and I really don't want to sit through 4 more playthroughs..
Hunter King
Not even close. Legacy and Redesign are the top Super hacks.
Nicholas Bell
I second Yumme Nikki if you want something unique and bizarre. Don't search up anything about the game in advanced, though. OFF is another odd free game. It's pretty well known now because of some eceleb let's players, but back when I played it was just plain mysterious. The dev is a baguette, so you'll have to get the translation patch.
Path of Exlie. Literally the top 3 games played on steam and not even half the playerbase use Steam.
Jayden Brown
Yes. Not really though. That's the joke. As soon as you would have something to do, you would be very much a dead man anyways. It doesn't matter at all if you care about the tensions in the world, you are just sitting there with the job to push a button once you get a call. That is your entire job.
Used to play it with 4/tg/ all the time. Had great fun with these fags until their mods banned SS13 due to NOT TRADITIONAL GAMES. Smut threads were the shit.
There's Psycho Waluigi and SMBx, no decent Mario kart clone so just stick to emulators.
Easton Morgan
Awseome thread guys.
If any of you remember Obake, a cute little Kirby clone where you play a ghost then you might want to hear that a year or two ago the guy that made Obake released a second game which is just awesome and there's a shit ton of enemies and powers.
Add Drop Factory. There are also some initially commercial titles, that were later released for free, like The Suffering or Earthsiege 1 and 2. tribesuniverse.com/
Elijah Anderson
The Submachine flash game series was rather interesting too.
Gavin Wright
Well how about games which are officially free, which are probably new to all of us and for which we don't have to look up how to download?
Does that stop Yume Nikki, Hello? Hell…o?, or Lisa: The First from getting recommended?
Brayden Ramirez
Vantage Master from falcom
Hunter Martinez
How's Lisa a walking sim? It's about on the same level as earthbound.
Brayden Richardson
I didn't say The Painful, I said The First.
Bentley Rogers
Quality thread deserving of a necro bump.
Logan Russell
massgate.org World in Conflict is a game that is no being longer distributed by Ubisoft, so some random dudes have taken the reigns. It's been hailed as one of the greatest RTS/RTT games of all time, and if you haven't played it yet, then you've really been missing out. Multiplayer is still somewhat active, and the campaign is phenomenal.
Play the game nigs, it's some good shit.
Aaron Hernandez
It was alright
Jordan Howard
Can I use this thread to talk about Ecco for a bit? Specifically, the two soundtracks. It's something that's been stewing in my brain and I have to get it out. While the CD soundtrack is good, I feel it misses the point. To put it more specifically, I think the composer made it to fit the narrative, instead of the actual levels. Take the open ocean level. It's when Ecco ventures out from the shallows and the caves into deep, open water to travel north and find the blue whale. The CD soundtrack takes an awe-inspiring tone, reflecting the great journey Ecco has to take. However, what the track doesn't reflect is that the open ocean is filled to the brim with hungry sharks. The actual level is one giant, panic-induced race to the end in a desperate attempt to get through the horde of sharks. The Genesis soundtrack really reflects this, with a great sense of urgency and panic. Basically, I feel like the CD version was scored like it were a movie, while the Genesis version was scored to the actual gameplay.
Dylan Reed
I know what you mean. Out of curiosity, have you heard the Game Gear OSTs? They're mostly mixed, but there are some nice tracks. Though they sorta messed up the the sequel's tracks, as its OST only have 5 songs. Still it can be worth checking out, especially for songs like City of Forever 1, and Vents of Medusa.
Thomas Cook
Yume Nikki is probably my favorite
Gavin Baker
Shameless shilling for Urban Terror. Started out as a Quake3 mod then became it's own thing later. Yes, the game is old.
I haven't played it in some time, chances are it lacks players nowadays
I'd also recommend checking out Cube 2: Sauerbraten, but the game is probably dead too, it's got a level editor as far as I remember. Both games are shooters btw.
