Guild Wars

What went so wrong SINCE THE BEGINNING?

Not sure what you mean. GW1 is dead now though, but the game lost a lot of its fun when heroes were added in Nightfall anyway. Anyone remember when 5 B/P Rangers, 2 MM Necros and 1 Monk was the TotPK meta? That was probably the most fun time in the game for me. I'll raise a glass to long forgotten friends.

It was originally a Warcraft clone, except shittier. The engine is so weak there's no collision physics. It's so weak that all the collision you get is from 2 circles banging against each other. That's why the wurms/sepernts always stand upright. There's no body location hitbox. The armored body parts for the human player is based on chance, rather than where the fireball hits you.

The engine was so weak that they couldn't make big effects. There were countless suggestions in 2005-2007 for why GW1 can't evolve.
Even the new GW2 is based off the crappy GW1 engine.

i don't think you've ever played GW

Dead game.

What the fuck are you talking about. Heroes were never a replacement for an actual party in tougher areas particularly, heroes were just a fantastic way to get through most of the other areas and were genuinely fucking fun. The Hero AI could actually do a reasonably competent MM Necro or just about any sort of Monk. The only things the AI simply could not fucking do worth a damn were things like interrupts (because you couldn't teach the AI "this is worth interrupting, this is not worth blowing an interrupt on") and certain hexes (No, AI, Backfire does not go on everything).

It's true, there have always been henchman, heroes were just better henchmen in any way.
But they crossed the line with the implementation of 7 heroes in your party. It's just to counterfeit dipping numbers of players anyway. Just take a look at embark beach. Post-game-concepts.

What line? It doesn't matter how many heroes you throw at certain areas, really - there are some places you simply should not be heroing or hero-henching, and no amount of heroes and henchmen will save your ass. Like I said, you're going to want a competent interrupter and AI doesn't understand interrupt priorities, and you'll probably want a competent hexer and AI understands neither specialty hex priorities nor cover-hexing. (AI doesn't really get cover-enchanting either, but it didn't seem to matter as much). Also, a player will ALWAYS be a better conditioner than an AI, though as long as you don't put too much on an AI's plate they can still kinda handle being a condition-applier in a pinch (AI could actually competently use Sever Artery/Gash, for example, as long as you ordered them right on the AI's skillbar)

Like what?

Nightfall late game (most of the enemies will eat hero squads for fucking breakfast), any mission where time is important, that one place where people used to farm obsidian and ectos and shit like that (I don't think you can even take hero-hench parties in there), some of the EotN missions… I'm sure there's more I'm missing. Not to mention hero-hench isn't even a fucking option when you're doing a lot of the fun shit in Factions.

...

I beat NF, Factions and Proph after the curtain fell on GW entirely with heroes alone. Not even messing with their bars most of the time.
Never tried that with dungeons or fissure, etc. though. Probably wouldn't work.
Still it's just that people aren't even tried to play together anymore. Because as opposed to the concept of GW, they now don't have to (for the most part). It would be BETTER, sure, but you just can't motivate anyone anymore to do anything that isn't absolutely neccessary co-oped.
And even if they had to, it'd be a tiring experience.
I remember that even since when Nightfall came out, it was a hardship to casually recrute enough folks for some of the missions (+bonus).

...

What the fuck was it with every skill always having to cost 5-10-15? Why not 4-6-12? assholes

just standardized for easy perception
instead you could rather manage your energy amount instead of the cost of skills, it can be changed with other skills or attributes though

see 5 as cheap, 10 as rather expensive and 15 as very expensive, with 25 being fucking expensive

Prior to heroes every single mission in the game you could get a pub together in about a minute, any mission. After heroes only the last quarter of missions in a given campaign could you find a group and as another user said, when 7 heroes were introduced the game became single player. Guild Wars was not meant to be a single player game and if you arrived to late to experience MMORPG's back when they forced you to socialise then I'm sorry you missed such a great time in gaming.

Doing HM and other shit got easier when they added the coin bounties thingy

They were still shitty PUG teams which had no idea what the helk they were doing.
Your best chance for elite missions and the underworld was to go with a guild specialized in it.

Why the fuck have they never fixed their damn account recovery system

It's 2017 why can't we have graphics like OP's pic?

WHAT THE HELL WAS WRONG WITH THIS WRITING?

Why do we keep protecting a bunch of idiots only to see them die(or steal our deserved godhood)
Why the hell are we even an OC in this world if our role is to play support for the RP hero characters?

My luck wasnt THAT bad.

Any of you faggots want to set up a Discord or something and play through the games before it dies completely?

I've been playing Factions lately, about to leave the tutorial isle. Always wanted to go through it and never got round to it, imagine it's going to be dead within the next few years so I may as well do it now.

Gimme a bit. I'm actually considering getting GW1, but PoE just came out with 6 new acts and some buddies of mine want to check it out. Also, GW1 won't die as long as GW2 runs. They use the same servers.
