I've pretty much never felt even the slightest desire to play a main line FF game, and the little bits of the few of them that I've tried didn't grab me at all, but somehow I've loved so many of the spinoffs and non-standard iterations like Crystal Chronicles, Dissidia, 14, and the Tactics games.

I played FF4 and 6 on the SNES and considered them art. I even argued with a friend in high school that there's no way FF7 could be better than FF6, with all the characters and emotions and the opera scenerio. Then i played FF7 and i was dead fucking wrong; it blew me out of the water and became my favorite. Then i played FF8 and was grievously disappointed, then i played FF9 and was thrilled and, in time, came to realize it was the best. All long after i played and loved FF6.

I just beat FFT for the first time yesterday. I played it once before years ago but got stuck and had to drop it. Found out yesterday that the fight I was stuck on was the second to last in the game. The war of the lions version on a psp emulator with the right trigger ability to fast forward the game made the entire experience so much better than I remember.

Does it have a patch that replaces the HD version's pozzed translation with the PSP's fan translation?

I don't know. I know the media had someone kvetching a while back about 8ch being a "white supremacy group", so maybe that's driving the influx of newfags. The best Final Fantasy games take place in Ivalice and the best Ivalice game is Vagrant Story. It definitely could use a remaster.

If it weren't for the messed up sound effects and lack of the JP glitch and weapon duping glitch, I'd say WotL. I don't think there's a fix out there for the sounds. It does have a cleaner and ye olde-ified translation, cutscenes, multiplayer if you care about that, a couple of FFXII characters (because technically still Ivalice) and some additional battles and conversations that follow what Delita's up to.

The PSX version lets you bypass an immense amount of grinding and its janky original translation is still full of charm. Both I'd recommend to play on an emulator so you can unlock the framerate to blast through the slow spellcasting animations.

FFVIII sucks, I know, because Spoony told me so.

FFVI is the only one that really hooked me and it was also the first one I played, IX was also very comfy but I have trouble wanting to play the rest to the end. I could never enjoy FFVII and I think a big part of the reason is how much of the story had been spoiled to me by the time I started it.

It took me 2-3 tries to finish FFVII when I was younger since I couldn't really get into it post-disc 1. When I finally finished it I thought it was okay, it at least has the best version of Cloud in it.

I wonder if there is a correlation between 8 and 12, meaning if 8 or is your favorite then 12 is close by in rankings. I tend to favor these because they seemed more outsider than others. I tend to like the earlier DQ's over FF, and didn't hate 13 - 13-3, as much as everyone else except for Hope, who I hate more than any other vidya character. I'll see myself out now.
