I'm going to try to go through and mainly clean up the wiki's numerous spelling mistakes and just swap any mention of /tg/ with pizza station, that being said, the only job i'm really competent with is Chef, and not even that competent, so I might try to fix up the recipe list and such. If someone could post the recipes for the purple drank and dindu muffins, I would appreciate it

Yes, those are units, Purple Drank is a drink mixed like every other with those chemicals.

Nuffins can be made with table crafting with those 3 ingredients.
Purple Drank just happens to be a chemical inside the Nuffins once they are made. You eat them, you get them inside of you.
Or you can grind the Nuffins to get Purple Drank if you can't find the other chemicals. Monkey Cubes might be easier to get.

Stamina Update

Fix for Stamina not resetting to 98 as soon as it goes over 100.

Punches deal 1Brute and 5 Stamina Damage.

Swinging punches costs 2 points of Stamina. Swinging weapons costs 2*weight for said weapon.
This means that the fire axe, one of the heaviest weapons around at "w_class 4" can be swung about 12 times (realistically 15) before you're too tired.
The damage you deal with melee weapons is adjusted by your Stamina like punches, penalties only starting once you reach 50 StamDam.

If you sustain more than 50 Stamina Damage, the StamDam you deal and your chance to hit begins to reduce down to 0 at 100 Stamina Damage.
If your oponent has more than 50 Stamina Damage, you have a chance to knock him down depending on the difference between your Stamina.

When this finally gets merged, punching someone isn't the same as trying to kill him anymore. You can have "friendly" brawls with people as long as you don't use weapons or just disable an aggressor with your bare fists.

Officers now can actually resort to violence and still arrest people (mostly) non-lethaly in case they run out of charges, armor giving them a bit of an edge over criminals and disablers giving a good headstart.

BTW, disablers were sorta broken. Stamina resetted to 98 as soon as it went above 100, meaning they could only down someone for 1-2 ticks.
With a small change, now you can "mag-dump" disabler shots up to 200 StamDam on someone to disable him for much, much longer. (Don't do this though, you'll need the charge)
Also reminder that Disablers do nothing on the first shot, slow on the second, heavily slow on the third and finally down on the 4th but for a short time.

Ok, if anyone is familiar with wikicode, I have a question. The current /tg/ 8station wiki has a page called "Guide to contributing to this wiki" and in it, it says you note a revision like so

It's fully tested as in every thing I coded triggers and changes vars as it's supposed to.
Now whether this improves the game or not, how it changes the way people play, it all remains to be seen and there's no way to know this accurately without live testing by a large playerbase.
So far, the only 2 ideas I've suggested and bothered to code (stun nerfs and user OOC) have been spot on and I expect this to be another good idea, but I'm humble enough to recognize it's value can't be decided a priori by me.

Not only the admins of the server have a say in it (they can accept/deny it) they also have a neat little button called "revert merge".
There's nothing wrong with merging something for 2-3 rounds, see how it works out and then discuss if we keep it or not.

You're confusing two things:
You write your shit, you run a host on your own computer and var_edit to your hearts desire to check if everything is working as intented. That's when things CAN'T BE LIVE TESTED because when things go wrong at this stage you have shit like item duplication, immortal clowns and people randomly exploding with 700 damage.

After this, when the gameplay change works as designed, it can go live. All that's missing is tweaking.

This kind of thing can't be tested on your own. It's tested with player feedback.

Actually, it was well liked after the Stun Baton was re-tweaked and the stamina bug was squashed so disablers actually became viable, as they were supposed to be.

This was back on Hate, where it took a while for people to get used to it but afterwards lots of players agreed it was a good change since it made a lot more guns viable and used. Can you believe we actually got ballistic weapons being used? Traitors actually packinh real weapons instead of focusing so hard on stealing anything that could stun?

Only complaints I've seen here was about the short time between the first implementation and the re-tweaks it had 1 or 2 days later, since the baton was indeed not good enough and disablers were shit due to the stamina bug (that actually had to be re-fixed? Why did Sierra unmerged that?)
In the end, we even got a patch for cuffs so Officers could do their job even better than before and fights became far more interesting.
If you have something to complain about the stun nerf, please say so. I'm sure we can tweak whatever values you believe to be a problem in the code.

Actually that was initially a sugestion by someone else, dunno who or how serious he was.

I did though for a while about such a thing and had a few ideas to make it actually turn-based, but it'd require to lock people in place while they were fighting, giving a free attack if they stepped away (attacks of oportunity).
This however violently clashes against ranged combat that relies far more on mobility and would be considerably harder to force into turn-based.
Ultimately, SS13 is an RPG, but it's more of an actio-RPG. Turn based mechanics wouldn't work very well unless adapted for such a mindset.

I did had a slew of other changes we can make to melee combat so it becomes more than mindless clicking, but let's leave that for after we see how Stamina goes, shall we? ;)

Why not? They'd be hobos all round that barely do anything, unless you start arresting them, at which point you need bigger targets that are worth more money.
It only keeps you as busy as you want, something meant to keep Officers busy during slow moments in a round and to create some danger in maintenance.

Handle the BBcode section of it and maybe let people give suggestions to fill it. It's really handy when playing for copy-pasting sections of it and make forms to photocopy later.

Also, not familiar with wikis but wouldn't it be possible to leave a few pages open for anyone to edit but keep everything else restricted? It could help that way.

Play everything else then! Download the code and read the bits that most interest you! You'll come to find out it's not really that complicated (half the things are just RNG) and in no time you'll set your Job Preferences to Low and Medium for almost all jobs.

But reading through the code is a valuable and FUN experience that everyone should undertake!

Does the wiki already have a section for guides?
Some wikis I've used had sections where people could post their own guide in a category, and a page listing all the guides available for that topic.
So for instance, we could have 3-4 diferent guides for R&D.

As someone who is following the wiki pretty strictly, it's been the biggest help for me learning what to do while playing the game (plus using ahelp like a babby) so I'm really just interested in helping myself/others by cleaning the wiki. If I can add facts and such like stats and values than I would be more than happy to, but I am NOT digging through autism code just for that.

And yes, there is a "guides" section, although most of them named very poorly. Half of them are named "Guide for X" while the rest are just "X" or "X guide". This deeply angers me

You don't have to dig through it, don't worry. Just press Ctrl+F, write whatever you want and select "search all files", then keep hitting F3 until you find what you want.
You can also use the small bar beneath the file list to find something by name, which helps with recipes for chems or food for instance.

Reading the code is not mandatory for understanding the game, but it does give you much more in-depth information about how it works and while some things need a good understanding of math and programming, others like recipes are easily read by anyone.

I'll give you spawning rights as well as varedit, this should allow you to spawn in whatever item you're writing about and then right click to check every detail it has

Friendly reminded that in the night that user ooc was implemented, a Poal was also started that saw 16 votes despite only 6 players being online.
The value of these things is pretty worthless and I'd rather have discussion about why it's good\bad over anonymous poals that don't say much.

Also reminder that the games gives admins a "poll" option so you can ask the question only to the people that matter, actual players. (And freshly made accounts to fool the results are easily seen as such, unlike Poal).

For an SS13 wiki you don't actually need anything like this. This is maybe something you'd do with several contributors but as a wikifag you can get all the info you need from the Recent Changes page.

The only thing I could think of worth doing for coordination is laying out what should be done first which I did at 8station.miraheze.org/wiki/Roadmap. However I ended up doing all of that shit myself. iirc last thing I was planning on doing was fixing up the location images for each room's page (like Primary Tool Storage for example).

Anyways I'll try to answer any questions you have about the wiki from what I can remember about editing. It's been over a year since I've played a round of SS13 or meaningfully fucked with that wiki.

The new_loc folder contains all of the updated location images I think. I think I actually finished that little project and was getting ready to go through the tedium of updating all of the pages and lost wind.

Wiki code isn't hard to understand. I understood what I was doing after a week and was making my own templates. What you're going to bump into more often than misunderstanding is technical limitations, from what I remember. You'll make a template and realize there's stuff you can't do with it, or requires an admin to install an extension (I already have a couple installed by Miraheze staff, the latest being mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SimpleTooltip and had them add a directory of /tg/'s images but I may have missed some when I scraped /tg/'s wiki). For the most part though I left everything in a state where all that really needed to be done was updating information. I just dropped it because we were constantly switching forks and servers and figured there's no point in editing when the content I'm updating might just get changed to a different codebase a month down the road.

The last overall thing I was planning to do was make the information for new players simple to understand. Webms, images of the station with areas labeled, exercises to do when they start out so they can get their bearings more or less within 2 hours, leaving instructions on how to set up a local server. Stuff like that. Another autistic project was going to be to create a full changelog of the server and create "Update" pages which include everything added, like patch notes. Doesn't work jumping around codebases though.

Other than that all I can really say is I tried to focus on high traffic pages and optimized the display of content so it was compact and tidy, and easy to navigate so people could a high amount of information at once, letting the user decide how much they want to see, so I made liberal use of collapsibles. Basically any page with a big table is what I focused on. I think I looked at the Recipes page and didn't really know much what to do with it and never got around to it. Going through and renaming the guides that are just "Guide to X" to "X guide" because having half of the guides all be under G is really annoying. That being said, what should I do with these two? They're fairly well worded as they are, and after I remove the rest of the shit out from under G they will stand out a bit more on their own, but is there a better way to title these? If you were searching the 8station wiki for how to contribute to the server/wiki, what would be some keywords you would use? This may be a non-issue, but the whole "guide to X" thing just really strikes me as lazy naming, maybe not hindering, but not optimal.

Use BBcode. It's not hard but it helps to keep the wiki page open and\or to save your own stuff in TXT files in your PC.

Once you start doing that, you can start rounds of QM and HoP by copypasting stuff into paper then photocopying multiple copies in game to hand out.

A lot of the shit in that archive is stuff I've never even looked at or is collections of files I had a script retrieve or something. Mostly just a collection of miscellaneous shit.
I would suggest keeping these folders: new_loc and vgstation and including their content in your own directory structure. I would keep all that shit around in some folder incase you need any of it. Also the todo.txt is incredibly relevant. That is pretty much all the stuff I was planning on doing. In regards to the weapons table specifically, it could be a huge autistic undertaking because I wanted to get specific mechanics for weapons (like getting KO chance of fire extinguishers, how KOs work exactly, etc) but looking at BYOND code is horrible. If you're serious about wiki editing you'll have to get used to spelunking around in the game files.

Only half of that drama was from banned people, the other half was legitimate complaints about existing things either not working or being downgraded for the worse or otherwise made more tedious such as with solar panel cleaning or the non functional virology. It also didn't help when a certain server host decided to rebase the entire codebase to a /vg/ based one. Either way, a portion of that drama was caused directly by bad decisions in regards to code and features.

Fact is, there's no other server out there with user OOC. There's also no other server out there where stun isn't the goto strategy for everyone. And (hopefully) there's no other server out there where you can just have a brawl without worrying about making other spessmen horizontal.

From any gamedeving I've done in the last decade, default texture formats for most 2D and 3D games use the RGBA 32 bit convention, for 16.7m colors, plus transparencies. If it was implemented correctly, colored lights should have no additional footprint over white lights.

What if security officers could take a break by playing VR combat in the future?
They fight humanoid NPCs(or monsters, or enter combat simulations where there are difficult match ups like 2 ranged enemies in a narrow hallway) in order to submit combat data to Nanotrasen. The more robust monsters the officer can take down, the more points they get, and maybe they can trade those points somehow for mundane equipment?

It's absolutely not a small undertaking. Especially if you mean to do it in a detailed and complete way. You'd start by determining a good date to start at based on changes kept between servers, what updates to include, having to go through and dig out sprites/mechanics on added content, create/modify pages for them. For decent content updates I was hoping to do shit like 8station.miraheze.org/wiki/Update:_Plasmamen for everyone. I've been out of the loop for a while so I don't know what this server's stability or projected stability is like.

I suggest creating a Talk page and keeping a public record of all the shit you intend to use if you want collaboration. I find wiki editing kind of fun when there's a clear objective so if you decide to go for it I'll do my best to chip in. For any non-editors, the part that takes equally as long as the editing itself is digging through the files and figuring out what's what. Simply digging up information and passing it along in plaintext would be a colossal help.

VR can be used for Science, specifically Toxins. A Toxin overhaul is needed, and one of the ways to do so is to add VR. VR allows for testing of bombs without station damage and can be done repeatedly.

Additionally, job bags (like the Plant bag, but specialized to different roles) should be applied to most station jobs. Xenobiology would probably appreciate Slime-bags, for example.

3 years ago, we had Nel's, the confiest station for one simple reason: Holla Forums had 1/3 of the users it has now. It was small, it was confy, it was ours.
Nowdays, we have many more players. Epexting them all to be great confy and fun guys is a bit naive, but I still wish he had what he had.

People still preferred solars, as it was safe.
What we wanted if I recall correctly at the time was higher power demands for everything, necessitating the singu or other engines. Chemistry dispencers, cloning, protolathes, and so on could be upped to be quite a demanding department when full force.
Solars'd be enough to maintain the station for a while, but if chems were made too much, you'd start having blackouts.

Are you joking? Solars were so safe that people spaced the singularity generator whole (minus the emitters). One day, a Chief Engineer tried to set the singularity and his own engineers murdered him like he was mad.
It got THIS bad. The problem with solars was that they're only ever in two states:
Then people won't bother with other power sources and outright murder/remove you if you set singulo
And then noone cares because it's considered useless.
The only option that came forth was mine. Make the solars start powerfull enough to power the station and then "decay" overtime and eithe require maintenance or Thermal.
It didn't work out that well, I admit it. But fuck man, at least it was something. An atempt was made.

The problem is that while I like math, I don't like statistics and took me a while to get the probability and quadratic formula right for it.
By the time it was "fixed" people already hated the idea and there was no going back.

If I ever revisited this idea, I'd just have Space Carp lay eggs on the panels (because they're warm when active) and be done with it. Not only it requires you to clean the eggs, you get cooking ingredients (eggs) and combat (carps).

The mentality comes from that untested shitty code what dramatically changes the game, slows down combat, and generally looks like ass, tends to drive away players regardless of if you leave it for a day or a week.

As someone who played a lot of engineer during that time, you're full of it. I set up the singu every single time I played, because I liked the singu. Nobody, not one single person, ever gave me any flak for it.

Phlog creates a 3x3 fireball that's pretty good at damaging a group of niggers, but it's inferior to other chems for a single encounter.
Napalm is almost 100% only used to shove on RWalls to quickly get through them.

you can also put CT into a patch and it'll instantly set a person on fire when applied.

Combine it with a little bit of Chloral Hydrate and it's pretty much an instakill, if the burning damage doesn't get them, the CH will. 10u off CT and 40u of CH is a death.

In particular, something like 30u Neurotoxin + 20u Sugar in a grenade with 20u Phosphorous + 20u Potassium is pretty nasty, because Neurotoxin is an almost instant knockdown, which means they'll get those 30u applied several times per tick for several ticks. I had fun with my yakety sax experience. Sadly the mommi in engineering was too good at his job and whatever it is they replaced my heart with exploded when i toolboxed a grate.

Supposelly the merge request that fixes that stuff was already accepted but the server isn't running it yet, for whatever reason.
Whoever maintains the code please confirm this so I know if that's a fluke in the code or it just isn't running yet.

By the way, trying to increase power consuption in a few departments to make Solars not much of a viable option doesn't work at all in best case scenario and is disatrous in the worst case.

Most of the departments that were suggested to have "heavy consumption" only actually see sporadic use of power. Robotics and Science only fabricate things for a while, they don't spend the whole round making stuff, Xenobio and Toxins barely even use power either.
Chemistry usually sees roundstart having a bunch of usefull chems or meme sprays made and afterwards the chemist fuck's off somewhere else while his machine recharges, again the same issue.

The problem here is that, due to APC's internal charge and SMES you have inertia in your system that makes it resistant to change. These 2 will discharge while they charge whatever machine used a lot of power but by the time they are done charging said machines, they likely still have some power so you never really notice anything in the station at all, even if using Solars.

And pray that it is so because if something was felt, it'd be station-wide, where everyone would run out of power because the chemist just can't stop making meth. This includes the emitters used to secure the Singularity, just so you understand the dimension of the fuck-up.

Because of this, increasing power requirements either doesn't do anything for Solars (system too slow, solars still a good option for the whole round) or it makes Solars unreliable at which point we're back at step 0: "why bother with solars anyway?"

Higher Power consumption is a terrible idea that does not fit at all the electrical system we have in the game. Fluctuation in the power production is not only much more feasible but it also makes sense considering every single other power source already has power fluctuating in their production based on several factors.

And this is both why we need discussion in the thread about these things but also why it's hard to take some suggestions seriously since people clearly don't think them through

Oh, right just remenbered that it's not really like that at all. Because of the APC's, if the chemist just keeps making meth all the time, Chemistry runs out of power and he can't do shit while everyone else gets by just fine.
So every engineer will still only set up Solars and laugh at the chemist instead, which leads right back to "why even bother with anything other than the 0-maintenance, 0-problems, simpler faster set-up option?"

Put two emitters next to each other on your favourite departure point.
Approach from space, turn them on and touch them. There, now you're flying throught space at a tremenduous speed.

I think there's something wrong with viral readaptation serum, I was unable to make any combined symptoms at all last time. It deals brute damage and shows up on the sensors but never reacts, regardless of viral score. It's now just a lethal viral trait.

I got ground plasma from a beaker in a syringe and put it in red slime extract, and the extract was used but nothing else happened. Am I doing it wrong? I didn't think to try injecting plasma in other types because I didn't have any other effects I needed and the round was ending anyway.

IIRC, viral readaptation is meant to produce a chem inside the mob that you then use to combine symptoms. The trick is: it only combines symptoms inside the mob. You can't just use a dropper and mix it like with other chems.
At least, that's how I remember coding it.
There's also a chance it's broken. I'll have a look tomorrow.

If it helps the reaction does start, but the symptoms don't mix. You can see the amount of the secretion drop after injecting blood.

Use syringe on bloodpack? You can also IV a monkey with the chems/blood, gib/meatspike and remove the meat, grind the meat and adquire the chems that way yes, the meat does inherit the chemicals that were in the blood upon death and carries them over to whatever you cook or use it with

Telescience needs to be able to access all sectors. Even 2 and 8. I think if Telescience could teleport to and from 2 and 8 I think the game would be more balanced.

I injected the monkey via syringe, let it secrete, meatspiked it, and ground the meat. I only got nutriment from the meat. Only thing I haven't tried is bloodpacks or IVs.

Turn it into a spherical coordinate system so it's much more complicated to do shit outside the station Z-level.

That'll winnow out the morons from powergaming Z-levels while both keeping station-level telesci accessible to them and making telesci appealing to people who know what they're doing.
