This. I loved the worlds when I was traveling in the game. One of the few legit criticism I have for this is that the game railroads you into going to certain countries by order. Imagine if instead of that, you choose which country you could go to depending on how far Tails's plane can go or if you have the map for the route to that country. Or you talk to an NPC that's visiting a country and catch a ride with him to his home country. Also that second to last Chinese girl was hella cute.

Most criticisms of Sonic games are blown way the fuck out of proportion. Sonic '06, Chronicles and Boom are the only objectively awful games. The rest is varying degrees of mediocre to good depending on your taste.

People didn't give a shit about chip. Before the game came out, people were expecting it to be mostly werehog stages + a few mandatory stages for every staple supporting cast member, and then (if we were lucky) a few stages where you play as actual sonic.
When it turned out to be nothing but sonic stages and werehog stages, and the only constant sidekick was that little tutorial guy it was like a breath of fresh air.
Granted, people still weren't sold on the werehog idea, and after secret rings and sonic 06 no one was interested in taking sonic seriously, but it still wasn't considered a bad game.
Fans weren't mad at the game's quality, they were mad at sega for not giving them a normal god damn sonic game that they'd been asking for for ages.

Yeah they tried moving away from the Boost mechanic and then everyone bitched that Sega isn't consistent with Sonic's gameplay when Lost World came out. Now if he tries to go back and improve on the one thing that's shown to work so far, critics will bitch that they don't experiment. I swear if they add some more Adventure mechanics like rolling physics, exploratory based physics while moving and the spin dash while making the boost optional plus the other things that made Boost successful, critics will bitch that they're stagnant while putting in some gimmicks.

No, it's not that they weren't consistent, it was that Lost World's style wasn't good either. The Run button is nearly the same as the boost button and the levels are largely made in the same style as the Boost games anyway. You have the cylindrical aspect but it doesn't really make a big difference.

Anyway, critics shit on Sonic no matter what. Video game (((critics))) are shit and you don't need to convince us of that. BRING BACK ADVENTURE'S SONIC GAMEPLAY. Fuck critics.

Sonic Adventure 2 had so much going for it. If people are bitching about the other gameplay styles, fine. I like them but Sonic's is the best, so we can lose the others. Just do a whole game of that type of Sonic gameplay, and have the same Mission/Rank system with lots of unlockables, spaced the same. Generations kinda tried to do this, but it was way too easy even to 100% so it didn't matter, and your 100% reward was just another copy of a 20 year old game everyone already owned. Adventure 2's Green Hill is one of the coolest unlockables in any game ever.

SA1 >>>>> SA2 in nearly every aspect except maybe for the Sonic/Shadow stage design.

Sonic gameplay at its best will never fill the content of a full console title. You need those mini missions, bonus levels, and extra characters to shake things up. and as long as the UI or map isn't horribly confusing and annoying.

I do think that every sonic game should have a way to play all the sonic stages back to back, though. Especially if they encourage you to try master the early levels so you can beat all the stages in 1 sitting.

SA1 has Adventure Fields, which I personally like a lot (it's why I love Unleashed so much), but I can see why others don't. It also has a better story. That's about it. I personally enjoy the additional three characters to a degree, but I also don't miss them. Tails' gameplay could have been better, but all his stages being races really limited him to only really being great in the Adventure Fields. And yeah, Knuckles' emerald radar works better in the first one. I don't know why they gimped it in the second. But the level design still makes it better overall.

SA2 has far better level design for all three playstyles, and the missions, ranks, and unlockables give the game way, way more replayability and content.

- Ties into a pseudo-halloween shit with the werehog. Maybe have night stages altered to be decorated with that countries' equivalent of Halloween and somehow link that to the dark-gaia enemies (when they're around, they make an aura that makes everything spooky).

Forces I think will be a train-wreck since they can't do a 3D Sonic again because its so fucking jank (unless it's BOOST BOOST BOOST which gets dull, or 2.5 D, and you might as well just make it retro sonic then).

How are Shuffle and Battle at all similar? Unless you're just listing two spinoffs that you don't like.

Also, Shuffle had a great idea of using the VMU to look at your cards, so the board sections actually had strategy instead of just dice rolls.

Also also, Battle becomes kinda playable if you grind at the beginning (there's one mission right at the start that makes it really easy to max your entire character) and then pretend it's not an RPG.

Well they're both fighting games kinda, but Sonic the Fighters is just an early 3D fighter that operates how you'd expect it to operate. It's pretty much a reskinned Fighters Megamix. Sonic Battle for GBA is this weird isometric four player team based fighting RPG.

But that's just not true. Adventure to '06 are all basically the same shit with gimmicks like teamwork and guns in a couple games, but the core is the same. Unleashed to Generations, and now Forces, are also all pretty much the same shit. Lost World is a little different gameplay wise, but only a little (less different than Unleashed is to all the games before it) but the same in all other regards.
